Kicking Ass: The Democratic Party's Blog

More Dirty Tricks

Posted by on January 31, 2007 at 10:44 AM

In typical GOP fashion, Republicans are accusing Democrats of out of control spending. Yet, the truth is on our side: Democrats are passing the budget that Republicans failed to pass last year.

From the Washington Post:

House and Senate Democratic leaders agreed yesterday to a $463 billion spending plan for the remainder of the fiscal year that would freeze many federal agencies at 2006 levels but include more money for veterans' health, education, scientific research, HIV programs and public parks, among other things.

In an unusual move, the congressional leaders stripped the spending bill of all earmarks, or narrow, special-interest provisions. The measure had to be cobbled together now because Congress did not finish its work last year and failed to pass nine of 11 spending bills.

This is not just another petty fight. Republicans opted not to complete the budget and appropriations process last year, and now the country is within weeks of the worst fiscal mess since the 1996 government shutdown (also caused by the GOP). The Republican-controlled Congress of yesteryear had the choice to finish budget work last year, tough choices and all, or push off the duty they were elected to complete for as long as possible. Surprise, surprise! They chose to shirk their responsibility. And now that Democrats are in charge, they are stuck cleaning up the mess left by the GOP. And still Republicans have the gall to try to blame Democrats for "reckless spending."

For shame.

The Republicans run up record debt, and now they have the gall to blame Democrats? How about all the unfunded spending they passed on to the next generation with the war and tax cuts? Not only were they wreckless, they were immoral by not funding important needs, like education and the VA.

What many people don't realize is the spending was balanced and cut MORE in the first Clinton term, than with Newt and the 104th Congress. Divorse your sick wife Newt wants to take credit for cutting the deficiet, but it was Clinton and the Democrats who started the trend. In fact, spending was cut MORE with the Democratic Congress and Administration. But the media never told us, and Dems were voted out.

I suppose the Bush economy looks pretty good when you can spend tons of money, and just pass on the tab to the next generation. Yeah, he really wants to "protect America." China and debt holders are taking control of our future.

"Here kids, you got Freedom, and Freeedom for the Iraqis', now pay for the war, and our tax cuts. And don't forget about the 1 TRILLION the vets will need over the course of the vets lives."

The repubs will blow smoke about it and all the while they know they are responsible for their drunken with power spending. The country knows where fiscal and caring responsibity live. That`s with the Democratic Party! All they can do is pretend they are being responsible stewards. It went too long with them in control and the people got a full view of their policies.

Watch the Republicans argue that the deficit is not large enough...that the rich need more tax cuts so that trickle down effect will finally reach working people after six years of this scam not producing what they promised.

Why not just cut the funds for Iraq? Oh, yes, I forgot that expense isn't even in the budget. Congress writes bad checks off the regular budget book to fund that bottomless pit.

Maybe we could make Bush's salary check bounce so he gets the point about the minimum wage? I'd hate for Barney to go without, but it's time the sacrifice was shared by all.

What Republicans fail to see about the "trickle down" effect is that there's a large clog in the drain. I think it's a large wad of greed, corruption, and "screw the worker".

The people in this country live in a fish bowel. They will believe every lie the republicans tell.
And the reason is that they do not want to hear the truth. They want everything to be coming up roses and to have a good night kiss and story told to them at bedtime. And the Republicans know this. So they just keep on lying. That is why they are power in the White House. This country scares my wife and I.

My own Republican Congressman, Geoff Davis, is whining about the spending bill, even though it was his own party that failed to produce a spending bill while they had the chance. Typical Republican hypocrisy.

Republican leadership of constituents in their best interest and non-constituents against their best interests.

Corporate interests and interests of capital is all that Republicans are really interested in.

I was told that though no new earmarks were introduced that old earmarks from 2006 remained in the budget. Does anyone know if this is true?

The November 2006 elections stated loud and clear that the majority of Americans want a change in the war in Iraq. The only audible national democratic voices that are being heard to move in this direction are Kennedy, Shumer, Feingold, and Kerry. The congress, regardless of the possiblility of a Republican filibuster, need to act on this immediately. The non-binding resolution is just not sufficient to the general public. We out here are vigilantly watching how the democrats in Washington promulgate the policy of withdrawl and redployment. Let's not allow political posturing for the future paralyze us into lip sinc activity now..
