Mr. Schumer doesn't want to talk about the role of government. National Democratic candidates don't want to talk about the role of government. Local Democratic candidates don't want to talk about the role of government. And because they don't, they lose.
The party that passed Medicare and Social Security is now impotent. It's so-called "leaders" are so divided on the big picture that they scream and cheer for their rare instances of unity. They live in fear of Ronald Reagan's failed policies and live in admiration of Jimmy Carter's "successes". I know why Democratic candidates won't market a governing philosophy: If they did, many would be exposed as just (what they used to call) liberal republicans.
Charles Schumer's laundry list of proposals won't make a bit of a difference. Democratics in state legislatures across the country have already passed these same laws; yet, the voters still don't know what the Democratic Party stands for. Until real leaders show up and not only challenge Reagan's failed, regressive policies but also challenge Clinton's failed, centrist policies the national Democratic party is in real trouble.
Big business is not the solution,
Democracy is the solution.
I propose cutting your post by 50%.
I mean really give me a break, how can you roll out such a large list of issues and say we are going to cut them all by 50%. He admits that Bush won the election by having a short list of talking points and we all know that Kerry lost by having to many. Now he thinks we set up '08 by having another huge list of talking points ... President McCain will be happy if this is the strategy.
