Iraq Reality Check - video

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IQuKDMZdvMo

How any American, including Congressmen and women, can watch this CNN video of CNN's Baghdad correspondent Michael Ware explaining the reality of the Iraqi government and the war, yet still vote to send U.S. tax dollars and American soldiers to Baghdad is beyond comprehension.

CNN's Baghdad correspondent Michael Ware was in Baghdad the day "Shock & Awe" was executed, and remained there in Iraq reporting on the ground from Baghdad every day FOR YEARS!!!

Ware recounts past Bush "troops surges" and discusses how American tax dollars and weapons we give to the Iraqi government will eventually be used against American soldiers, and how the latest Bush-McCain "troop surge" will definitely fail. Ware describes the Iraqi government as a "collection of militias."

Ware also recognized the need for some kind of force to replace the U.S. military, in order for U.S. withdrawal.

Such a recommendation squares with Cong. Kucinich's plan to replace U.S. troops with a U.N. peacekeeping force.

The Democratic and Republican effective alternative is to leave the troops in Iraq.

Good morning.

So you want to confront Bush over the Iraq occupation as the blog says. Here's how:

Dear EmailNation Subscriber,

The National Weather Service is predicting fifty degrees and sunny this Saturday, January 27, in Washington, DC. With no expected chance of precipitation, it'll be a beautiful day to come out for what is expected to be one of the largest mobilizations against the Iraq war since the US invasion in 2003.

The idea is to show Congress that America wants a peace surge, not a troop surge, and to push legislators to listen to the voters, not President Bush, and bring the war to a close.

There's a rally starting at 11:00 on the Mall featuring remarks from a host of speakers including Reps. Dennis Kucinich, Lynn Woolsey and Maxine Waters, the Rev. Jesse Jackson, Leslie Cagan and many others. At 1:00 the march will kick off from the Mall. There's still time to get on a bus. Click here for info on transportation and here if you need a place to stay.

The weekend's activities will include an interfaith peace service and a Congressional Education Day on Monday, January 29th. Whether you can be in DC or not, you can help make the actions a success by making a donation to UFPJ, by helping spread the word about the planned actions and by asking your elected reps to support Senator Edward Kennedy's bill against funding a troop surge.

See the UFPJ site for more info on this weekend. And if you're a student organizer (or the parent or friend of one) you should know that our friends and partners at Campus Progress are offering travel grants of up to $300 for students organizing carpool or van trips to the capital. Click here for info on how to apply.

Check out our new progressive events calendar for other antiwar events nationwide.

Finally, please visit The Nation online to read new Nation blogs, to view newsfeed links updated each day, to see when Nation writers are appearing on TV and radio, to get info on nationwide activist campaigns, and to read exclusive online reports and special weekly selections from The Nation magazine!

morning all,

{{fade}}, I, too, get such a kick out of the trolls all using military sounding names, like that gives them some kind of credibility or something.

I for one, remember ONLY TOO WELL, how those in the military, both guards, and active troops were APPALLED when Bush called them all into duty to go to Iraq! These original guys had joined in peace time, to learn a trade, not to go to foreign soil, based on a lie, and told they would be somehow defending america, against NO TERRORISTS There! There wasn't one of them that wasn't out there bitching his head off. (and their Parents, too)

So someguy who sat in a cushy job, stationed in Germany professes to tell us what War is about!

Why isn't this creep on a plane over to Iraq right now, so my nephew can get out of this next escalation of guys getting sent back a 3rd time?

For those in the Green Party that visit this blog. Democratic grassroots do NOT, repeat NOT support this war/occupation. Many Democrats in fact voted from the start against the war - Feingold for instance. More than 60% of the Democratic House members voted against the war. Then we have the Democratic Progressive Out of Iraq caucus.

To my friends in the Greens, let's not bicker with each other over Iraq or torture. The progressives in the Democratic party are against both. We simply choose to operate within one of the major US parties. No offense to Greens but they aren't large enough to effect change.

You have got to read/watch this one, of Ted Kennedy on the floor, asking Republicans "What is it about Working men and women you find so offensive?"

"What is the price, we ask the other side? What is the price that you want from these working men and women? What cost? How much more do we have to give to the private sector and to business? How many billion dollars more, are you asking, are you requiring?

"When does the greed stop, we ask the other side? That's the question and that's the issue."

$500 Million Iraq Ripoff

President Bush's Ambassador to Iraq, Israeli neocon Paul Bremer, put an Iraqi used car salesman on his staff and gave him $500 million dollars for Iraqi weapons procurement. The used car salesman had no experience in arms procurement and has summarily disappeared with all the cash. CBS tried to get the U.S. government and the Pentagon to respond, but no one would talk to CBS. They did issue a statement which said it was an Iraqi internal affair and there would be no U.S. investigation of the missing half billion dollars - $500 million U.S. tax dollars - GONE!

THE CORPORATE MEDIA IS CONTROLLING THE NOMINATION.
In recect polls, MSM is showing Clinton, Obama, and Edwards. Why not ALL the ANNOUNCED candidates, rather than someone who hasn't announced?
This is premeditated manipulation.

And who in the world would vote for Obama (21%) over Edwards (11%), as MSNBC claims? Half the people for Clinton?
What about Richardson? What about Vilsack? Kucinich?

The Media knows it's ALL NAME RECOGITION now, and they are intentionally not recognizing the REAL LEADERS with EXPERIENCE. This is a media hack job.
Democrats should SUE in a class action for truth and fairness.

WAKE UP! We must demand FAIRNESS NOW. If we don't get fairness now, the next thing you know our nominee will have some bogus story by partisans run across the county as prime time news, like the Swiftboaters.

I don't know 1 (ONE), NOT ONE Democrat who thinks Obama has a chance at being elected President, or has a chance against all the EXPERIENCED Democrats. He hasn't even ANNOUNCED.

Sure MSM, the Democrats are sooo desperate as to want a SENATOR with 2 years Senate experience, just out of the State Senate, NO LEADERSHIP experience, NO Business world experience, A LAWYER, A HUSSAIN, did coke, never won a real race... PLEASE! Democrats have many candidates much more experienced who have ANNOUNCED a bid.

All this poll stuff is smoke and mirrors. It's smoke to cloud the picture of experienced and proven leaders, and mirrors to focus attention on candidates who will NOT take to so-called middle America. This manipulation helps Republicans.

I'M MAD AS HELL... AND I'M NOT GOING TO TAKE IT!
DEMAND PUBLIC FINANCED CAMPAIGNS NOW!

hi pam, what a disgrace that we couldn't get more than a handful of Republicans to vote for raising the minimum wage. Clearly, the Republicans have chosen to cast their fate with Bush. I say fine ... they want to be obstructionists and follow the obstructionist Prez then they will lose in 2008.

OHIO Election staff convicted in recount rig

1/24/2007, 6:09 p.m. ET
By M.R. KROPKO The Associated Press

CLEVELAND (AP) — Two election workers were convicted Wednesday of rigging a recount of the 2004 presidential election to avoid a more thorough review in Ohio's most populous county.

Jacqueline Maiden, elections coordinator of the Cuyahoga County Elections Board, and ballot manager Kathleen Dreamer each were convicted of a felony count of negligent misconduct of an elections employee. They also were convicted of one misdemeanor count each of failure of elections employees to perform their duty.

Prosecutors accused Maiden and Dreamer of secretly reviewing preselected ballots before a public recount on Dec. 16, 2004. They worked behind closed doors for three days to pick ballots they knew would not cause discrepancies when checked by hand, prosecutors said.

Defense attorney Roger Synenberg has said the workers were following procedures as they understood them.
Ohio gave President Bush the electoral votes he needed to defeat Democratic Sen. John Kerry in the close election and hold on to the White House in 2004.

Special prosecutor Kevin Baxter did not claim the workers' actions affected the outcome of the election — Kerry gained 17 votes and Bush lost six in the county's recount.

Maiden and Dreamer, who still work for the elections board, face a possible sentence of six to 18 months for the felony conviction. Sentencing is on Feb. 26.

A message left for Elections Board Director Michael Vu was not immediately returned Wednesday. The board released a statement that said its goal is to restore confidence in the county's election progress and pursue reforms in addition to those made since 2004.

U.S. troops allowed to kill Iranians plotting attacks in Iraq

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- The Bush administration has authorized the U.S. military to capture or kill Iranian agents in Iraq who are plotting attacks against U.S. and coalition forces, a U.S. national security official said Friday.

(...)

Bush and his advisers had discussed the policy since last fall. The president decided to authorize it when the situation in Iraq continued to deteriorate and because the United States is looking to get tougher with Iran, the official said.

iraqvet,

There's a struggle within the Democratic party to make it more progressive. I believe we are winning. It started with getting Howard Dean in as head of the DNC. The progressive House caucus founded by Bernie Sanders and Dennis Kucinich is growing. Stick it out! Speak your mind. Stop This War Now!
There's only two real reasons why Democrats are refusing to cut off funding to this war:

(1) They're worried about being not being re-elected; they're afraid their next opponent will accuse them of being "weak on terror."

(2) They know if they veto Bush's upcoming war bill, Bush will veto each and every Democratic earmark crossing his desk. I smell a quid pro quo, and it's between Bush and the seasoned Democrats.

All this bull about "harming the troops" as an excuse for not cutting off funds to Bush's war is nonsense. As Congressman Kucinich said, there's already $70 billion in the pipeline to bring the troops home now! - there is no need for further funding other than to keep the troops in Iraq.

From Ted Kennedy (for some reason the youtube video won't start???):

"240 billion dollars in tax breaks for corporations. 36 billion dollars in tax breaks for small businesses. Increase in productivity -- 42 percent over the last 10 years," yelled Kennedy emotionally. "But do you think there's any increase in the minimum wage? No. At 12 after five today, on Thursday, I speak for all of our Democrats and say we're prepared to vote now. Now!"

"Do you have such disdain for hard-working Americans that you want to pile all your amendments on this? Why don’t you just hold your amendments until other pieces of legislation? Why this volume of amendments on just the issue to try and raise the minimum wage? What is it about it that drives you Republicans crazy? What is it? Something. Something! What is the price that the workers have to pay to get an increase? What is it about working men and women that you find so offensive?"

We've had health-savings amendments that will benefit people with average incomes of $112,000… We've had those kinds of amendments and we're looking at the Kyl amendment at 3 billion dollars. But we still cannot get two dollars and fifteen cents -- over two years. Over two years!

(AP) Guyana's president says former New York City police commissioner Bernard Kerik, who U.S. authorities are reportedly investigating for possible financial improprieties, will oversee reforms to the violence-wracked country's police force.

President Bharrat Jagdeo told reporters late Tuesday that Kerik will "definitely" lead an overhaul of the South American country's police department despite recent criticism over the move.

no, actually he has been brainwashed, and thinks he is fighting for some noble cause and making us safe over here. I do not blame him. I do not argue with him. First he was lied to by the recruiter in his High School, in his Senior year, 3 years ago, when the recruiter told him "of course you don;t have to go to Iraq. We send our soldiers all over the world. 3 months later, he was on a plane to Iraq". During the Kerry/Bush election, he had a senior officer tell them all to vote for Bush, because Kerry planned on cutting Vet benefits as soon as he got in.

One thing my nephew knows, is that I fight to get him home because I have paid very very close attention to the Goals of PNAC, Colin Powell sitting in front of the UN holding up little bottles of white powder, maps, recorders, and scaring the American people into thinking Iraq was dangerous. I paid attention as I watched first one lie, then the next get dismissed. I watched the media, afraid of being called unpatriotic or anti American back off and not hold them accountable for their lies. I watched Democrats line up to vote for this illegal invasion, as they were fed those lies as well as one I wish I had kept the link to, that Iraq had the capability already of firing nukes into mainland USA.

ps, I also had a brother who served in Germany for 4 years. He was a driver for officers. He was killed on Christmas night, when he was home on leave in between re-enlistment, where he was then headed to be a driver at the Pentagon. Believe me, they investigated our family very closely before giving him this position. They did not think I was a communist !

dpd, we must destroy this meme. Bush even used it in the SOTU address. This myth of Islamo-Fascism must be totally discredited as nonsense. Even if there are a few extremists who believe in something like a "Caliphate" are we truly afraid that they will succeed? There is no support for that concept in the Arab world. Let's stop inventing bogey men just to substain an illegal and immoral occupation whoose main objective is control of oil.

But then again the republicans do it every time! I have visions of 1994 andfilibuster Bob tieing up the Senate over every bill that the republicans did not like, as he was vying for that long sought after presidents job. Just knowing that the Republicans would win back the White House in 1996 (hopefully him), and then they could get the legislation they all wanted.

They had the media focused on other bogus issues to distract the general population from the evil plot. I guess like the energizer bunny it's still going...

Memo to Tim Russert: Dick Cheney thinks he controls you.

This delicious morsel about the "Meet the Press" host and the vice president was part of the extensive dish Cathie Martin served up yesterday when the former Cheney communications director took the stand in the perjury trial of former Cheney chief of staff I. Lewis "Scooter" Libby.

Flashed on the courtroom computer screens were her notes from 2004 about how Cheney could respond to allegations that the Bush administration had played fast and loose with evidence of Iraq's nuclear ambitions. Option 1: "MTP-VP," she wrote, then listed the pros and cons of a vice presidential appearance on the Sunday show. Under "pro," she wrote: "control message."

"I suggested we put the vice president on 'Meet the Press,' which was a tactic we often used," Martin testified. "It's our best format."

'afternoon people,

couple of short takes here...it appears to me the republicon kneejerks are playing the 'good cop, bad cop' game. congressional rethugs are playing up their support for bread and butter national issues while knowing full well that their 'idiot-in-chief' will veto any and all bills meant to better the welfare of everyday americans. but it's ok though, because to counter this we only have to present bills that are even more helpful to working americans.
on another note, i can't make it to the washington demonstration tomorrow and certainly would if i could, but if any of you are planning on showing up, please, someone, take along a giant 'finger' with the words 'PRIVATISE THIS!' printed in large letters. it seems that to these repofascists anything public must be exterminated.

I love President Clinton but I am not sure of Hillary, She is the one responsible for all of his troubles, anyway this is the kind of things that makes her a hard candidate to vote for. good news on senator johnson:

Thursday, January 25, 2007
Johnson making 'encouraging and steady' progress in recovery
WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Sen. Tim Johnson of South Dakota is making "encouraging and steady progress" as he recovers from a brain hemorrhage and subsequent surgery last month, his office said Thursday.

"Senator Johnson is showing evidence of more functional, spontaneous speech and is indicating preferences," said Philip Marion, medical director for the Department of Rehabilitative Medicine at George Washington University Hospital, in a written statement. "He is answering questions and following commands appropriately."

Johnson remains in the hospital's in-patient rehabilitation unit. He was transferred out of the intensive care unit earlier this month.

While discussing the names of family members with a speech therapist, Johnson offered the name of his youngest grandson, Cooper, when the therapist could not recall it, the statement said.

"He is watching movies with his family and requested to have his television set to CNN during the day. Johnson is also following the Colts' progress in the NFL playoffs and rooting for South Dakota native Adam Vinatieri," it said.

2008: January straw poll results

by kos
Wed Jan 17, 2007 at 09:38:47 AM PST

A record number of respondents participated this month, with over 22,000 votes cast in the straw poll. And, in the true spirit of the MoE, the numbers changed little after the first few thousand votes were cast. At 6K votes, it was Edwards 37, Obama 27. and Clark at 14. The final results are, respectively, 35, 28 and 17.

I know it hurts to read and some may want to deny reality so, I'm posting the link for PROOF!

this story from yesterday's ny times paints an interesting and frightening picture of cheney and bush's iraqi adventure:

BAGHDAD, Jan. 24 — In the battle for Baghdad, Haifa Street has changed hands so often that it has taken on the feel of a no man’s land, the deadly space between opposing trenches. On Wednesday, as American and Iraqi troops poured in, the street showed why it is such a sensitive gauge of an urban conflict marked by front lines that melt into confusion, enemies with no clear identity and allies who disappear or do not show up at all.

In a miniature version of the troop increase that the United States hopes will secure the city, American soldiers and armored vehicles raced onto Haifa Street before dawn to dislodge Sunni insurgents and Shiite militias who have been battling for a stretch of ragged slums and mostly abandoned high rises. But as the sun rose, many of the Iraqi Army units who were supposed to do the actual searches of the buildings did not arrive on time, forcing the Americans to start the job on their own.

When the Iraqi units finally did show up, it was with the air of a class outing, cheering and laughing as the Americans blew locks off doors with shotguns. As the morning wore on and the troops came under fire from all directions, another apparent flaw in this strategy became clear as empty apartments became lairs for gunmen who flitted from window to window and killed at least one American soldier, with a shot to the head.

Whether the gunfire was coming from Sunni or Shiite insurgents or militia fighters or some of the Iraqi soldiers who had disappeared into the Gotham-like cityscape, no one could say.

THE LIES AGAINST OBAMA (WHOEVER THE SOURCE) ARE AS OLD AS YESTERDAY

Obama debunks claim about Islamic school

Calls the reports 'scurrilous'; Jakarta school open to all faiths.

Snip:

'We will not be swift-boated'
surfaced on the Web site of the conservative Insight magazine the day after Obama announced he was jumping into the 2008 presidential race. Conservative Internet blogs and the Fox News Channel picked up the story and spread the charges just as his candidacy was getting off the ground.

Obama on Wednesday called the reports "scurrilous," and his communications director e-mailed reporters a lengthy memo attempting to set the record straight.

"I think they recognize that the notion that me going to school in Indonesia for two years at a public school there at the age of 7 and 8 is probably not going to be endangering in some way the people of America," Obama said on NBC's "Today" show.

The push-back was a signal Obama would fight to protect his reputation in the presidential campaign.

Many Democrats argued that Kerry's failure to challenge aggressively his critics in the 2004 presidential race cost him in his effort to unseat President Bush. A group with conservative ties, the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth, charged that Kerry did not deserve the medals he won in the Vietnam War - despite his combat record of bravery and valor. Kerry announced Wednesday that he will not run again in 2008.

"We will not be swift-boated," said Obama communications director Robert Gibbs. "And we won't take allegations that are patently untrue lying down."

My thoughts are with Molly Ivins today...

Ivins hospitalized in ongoing battle with cancer

AUSTIN, Texas Liberal Texas newspaper columnist Molly Ivins has been hospitalized in her ongoing battle with breast cancer.

Ivins assistant Betsy Moon says her boss may be able to go home Monday. She adds that those close to Ivins are "not sure what's going to happen, but she's very sick."

The 62-year-old columnist had taken a break from her syndicated column, but resumed writing earlier this month. Her most recent column appeared two weeks ago, when Ivins urged readers to stand against President Bush's plan to send more troops to Iraq.

In the January Eleventh column, Ivins wrote -- quote -- "We are the people who run this country. We are the deciders. And every single day, every single one of us needs to step outside and take some action to help stop this war." She added -- "We need people in the streets, banging pots and pans and demanding, 'Stop it, now!'"

No one asked you not to discuss the candiadates and their positions, they simply asked you to stop repeating the right wing rag "Insight" as a credible source.

And to be quite honest, you haven't even mentioned an actual policy or issues related statement in your attack on Senator Clinton.

Those here who know me, know that She is not the Candidate for me, nor is Obama, but they do know that I will (as will they) call any poster out about repeating bullshit that has no basis in reality, nor has it been cooberated, and in fact has been denied by all people involved.

We are perfectly aware of the role of money in politics, and how hard hitting ALL of the candidates can be, but we require proof and backup of slanderous assertions. Neither of which you supply.

Your "Opinion" does not make it fact, and fortunately, we here are rooted in the reality and fact based world.

J, No, but I personally am hoping that this blog does not turn into the mean spirited, nasty campaigning that we had here in 2004. I think coming in, expressing your opinion on a candidate is fine, but if one has to resort to trying to tear down other candidates, in order to raise their own up, well that is unfair.

btw, to you and FOS, I think you would be very surprised at how happy a lot of people around the country are, that Hillary finally declared. I have relatives and friends in various states, and they have all been emailing their elation! Let me ask you both seriously, if Obama were not running, would you feel as strongly against Hillary as you do?

You want my opinion on all this early circus? I think it is going to break down to in the end, being Hillary/Obama. then in 8 years, no one can use the in-experience factor for Obama and he will be a shoe-in. But that is just MHO.

Served_in_Germany, you seem to be very proud of your service which you indicate by your screen name includes service in Germany. Being proud of service in what most GI's consider R&R land would be typical of a Republican since most Republicans never dawn a uniform, period. So for one who served in Korea I find you a poor spokesperson for any service related issue. Between the Beer Gardens and the Ladies I'm sure you found much to occupy your time. And you quips are showing your colors.

alrighty then, i'll join in this good natured water fight and add that none of us should skip supper by going directly to dessert without first waiting to see what's on the menu. rumours, like liver, should be rejected out of hand, but all the candidates should be given their opportunity to lay out their agenda. that's what i'll be looking for, and so will most voters, whether they're bloggers or not. and by the way...let's all push as hard as we can to have the internet community's voice heard at the '08 democratic national convention!

What is truly sad is that so many blacks still rally behind the Clintons because Bill gives them the feel that he has taken their causes to heart. and maybe they have in some ways.

Bottom line: these folks are conservative DEMS and are not to heart with black folks as the public has been led to believe.

Look let's not act as if we (democrats) don't play Hard and dirty. As I said before we do not know if it's the war mongers (republicans)or if this is from home but, if it is it will back fire
on her. That attack was completely classless who ever did it.

PamB,

A resounding,

HELL YES!

I felt this way when I wanted Feingold to run , just noone was paying any attention. I have already stated that if Barack Obama was not running, I would be supporting John Edwards just as hard as I am Obama.

BTW, I would support a Fluffy-the-Cat/Toto-the-Dog2008 before I support any ticket with Hillary on it.

I speak the same way about her as I do Joe Lieberman because IMHO, they are very similar.

Exactly. That's all I was saying too. However, for some reason, because I have Barack Ombamas name on my username, "I'm attacking Hill Hill Hillray!"

ROFLMAO!

BULL!

That one poll that the Media keeps referring to was done of only 386 Blacks. That's the same damn Rassmussen poll they have been passing around.

BULL!

(I bet those Blacks are from the "Plantation Mentality" Southern States too)

Do you actually want me to go there?

Simply put Hillary Clinton is a centrist/DLC therefore of no help or value to the majority of the people in this country in particular people of color.

The views given are just that, views, NOT attacks which obviously there seems to be a problem if something is negatively said about her?

and I don't think you qualify to say who is or isn't root in reality here.

Posted by J on January 26, 2007 at 02:07 PM

Yes, please go there.

You asked a question and I gave you an answer. Simply saying that she is a member of the DLC is not discussing the issue. And she and her Husband have done much people of color, I suppose much to your chagrin.

And if you had bothered to read my post, you would see that she is NOT my candidate. I beleive she has pandered to far to the right in much of the legislation she has supported (the flag burnning law she supported is one example, and her lack of support for marriage equality for another).

And your "views" that you posted earlier were not views, they were the spreading of the right wing crap fest called "Insight" magazine, tou haven't touched on any actual issue in regards to her polocies and legislative history, you simply said she's a clinton and they are mean and dirty politicians. That hardly qualifies as discussing her record and her viewpoints as a possible candidate.

As for me not being qualified to describe who is and isn't rooted in reality, I disagree.

MY LIFE IS REALITY.

If you wish to argue about a politicians political stances and policy then please, start trashing her record, I have no problem with that, and in fact express my disdain for her on a regular basis. But based on her POLICY not on her percieved personality.

You simply attempted to smear her without discussing the actual issue.

Please, tell us what stances she has taken that support your point of view. Many here might just agree with you on the issues, not on the slander.

Robert_Burnsey_Koenig on January 26, 2007 at 02:27 PM

I hope people understand why I wrote what I wrote if this dirty politics starts between us, this infighting is just going to give us four more years of a republican that's all. Now who wants that sh*t???

123
IJP on January 26, 2007 at 02:27 PM

Well, FOS , thanks for an honest opinion, and I agree with j's comments about the Clinton's both belonging to the DLC group, and have bought into their belief that moving to the center will buy Southern votes, by cramping rights for minorities, women, workers. The original DLC group came out against minimum wage, and were against taking such a strong stand with blacks. So I too have no use for them. WHY would Dems want to move to the right? At what point does a moderate Dem decide they will be a Dem, instead of moderate Republican? 6 of one, 1/2 dozen of the other.

But I think that the Clinton's are not caught in the same situation they were, when Bill was President and the Republicans took the majority and he was forced to ride along with them.

Don't get me wrong, I have not made up my mind as to which candidate I will back. Many people here in CT jumping on Chris Dodd's bandwagon. He is a liberal. But I need more time to study them all, before I throw my hat in the ring.

Where have I heard THIS crapola before? Oh yeah, right before they insisted they had to go invade Iraq!!!

"The Bush administration in recent weeks has toughened its stance against Iran, which the West has accused of seeking to secretly build an atomic bomb, raising fears among political and business leaders that the U.S. plans an attack.

President George W. Bush has moved an additional aircraft carrier into the Gulf and told Iran that he would not allow it to provide weapons and support to insurgents in Iraq.

Russ is a fine politician and his stance on Marriage Equality is one others should emulate.

There should be a moratorium on this nonsense until 2-10-07 which is the EARLIEST anyone can declare. Personally, I'll wait to see what shakes out, and who is actually running (and not just posturing for an early Veep slot)and then LISTEN TO WHAT THEY HAVE TO SAY before I start blowing off fireworks.

That's cool. I was actually rooting for Sen. Feingold all the way up till the very end when he announced that he wasn't going to go for it after the November Elections. While I was paying attention to Feingold, I had John Edwards as a back up because I supported him in all they way back in 2003 during the Primaries. Then, out of nowhere, Barack Obama caught my attention and got me all excitde about having a REAL Democrat in the White House with a fresh new face and YOUNG. I had struggled to pick one. I decided to go for him. John Edwards is literally, right next to him on my list though. After the 10th of Febuary, if Obama opts in, I will change my user to Obama/Edwards 2008 and keep it that way untill the Democratic Primaries. Then, I will go from there. I planned it all out.

What can I say ? I'm a Virgo. I can't help it.

;p

Hey FOS

Yes Obama now has 3 votes up from 2. I understand your passion for the man. He's very charismatic.

What I'm most afraid of is the DEM/DEM/DEM factor that would no doubt freak out the bubble of Washington.

Just the thought of a Dem House a Dem Senate and a Dem President might send some pugs to commit hary cary or something. LOL

It's never to early to be passionate and I understand everyone has their preferences. I just want it to be a DEMOCRAT (well other than LIEBerdouche)

I will actually MARCH for Wes though. He's always been my logical choice since before 2004. Second would be GORE of course and that combo would have me crying happy tears for weeks!!

ok who keeps draggin me bck? LOL

I agree. It seems as if we are always in a perpetual state of "election". We should follow the lead of the British on this matter. They can't polotik until 6 months before the election, and it is a fairly successful system. Besides which, with all of these Senators running, who is actually doing their job in the Senate?

Presidential Candidates miss so much of the legislative period when running for office, we certainly don't need to have them missing in action for an additional year and a half. One has to wonder who will be doing the peoples business while they are triangulating and posturing.

Too early and such a waste of time.

A good one from another blog:

"American politics is ugly these days, and many people wish things were different. For example, Barack Obama recently lamented the fact that "politics has become so bitter and partisan" - which it certainly has.
But he then went on to say that partisanship is why "we can't tackle the big problems that demand solutions. And that's what we have to change first." Um, no. If history is any guide, what we need are political leaders willing to tackle the big problems despite bitter partisan opposition. If all goes well, we'll eventually have a
