White House Has Its Head in the Sand

Thanks, Mr. President...
The Democratic chairman of a House panel examining the government's response to climate change said Tuesday there is evidence that senior Bush administration officials sought repeatedly "to mislead the public by injecting doubt into the science of global warming."
Rep. Henry Waxman (news, bio, voting record), D-Calif., said he and the top Republican on his oversight committee, Rep. Tom Davis of Virginia, have sought documents from the administration on climate policy, but repeatedly been rebuffed.
"The committee isn't trying to obtain state secrets or documents that could affect our immediate national security," said Waxman, opening the hearing. "We are simply seeking answers to whether the White House's political staff is inappropriately censoring impartial government scientists."
"We know that the White House possesses documents that contain evidence of an attempt by senior administration officials to mislead the public by injecting doubt into the science of global warming and minimize the potential danger," Waxman said.
More on the document withholding, here.
And check out these video clips from the hearing:

Jim Cooper of Tennessee discusses a dinner party in which Director of National Intelligence John Negroponte was barred from uttering the phrase "global warming." (link)

When will they take their head out of the sand?

The war in Iraq, the economy, taxes, foreign policy, domestic policy, and everything else are irrelevant if our environment fails.
That goes for all the "right to life" issues such as fetal stem cells, Roe v Wade, et al, too.
Global warming could cause a disaster that has the potential for wiping out all human life on this planet.
The White House doesn't just have it's head in the sand, they've poured concrete in the hole.
What good is all the ill-gotten gains of the rich and greedy going to do them then?
head in the sand? really? nah, you must be keeeding?
one has to wonder why so many in this country were so paranoid about the commies in the soviet union- the system that has come to fruition under this present regime in washington rivals the soviets- many of their favorite theorists were former left-wing communist sympathizers so i guess one should not be all that surprised- they learned their lessons well and applied it to their slow, but inevitable, takeover of our government- the corporations with their think-tanks (heritage, aei, hoover, etc.), lobbyists and media (which are wholly owned and controlled by multi-national corporations with direct or indirect ties to the military-industrial complex) have effectively silenced reasoned debate- all that was left was an event like sept. 11, '01 to begin the tightening of the screws that would spell disaster for what was left of enlightened debate that is essential for a functioning democracy
of course they have their heads in the sand- during the time that our democracy was still at least partially functioning, there would have been news reports, congressional investigations and public outrage over this administration's criminal takeover of our government, but they have effectively shut down the mechanisms that used to bring knowledge to the public which typically led to pressure on congress, effective oversight and punishment for leaders who were deliberately attempting to thwart our system of government- that is the legacy of this criminal regime, and we will be lucky if anything stops our slide into the failed vision of empire that these bozos have mapped out for us
nothing surprises me anymore regarding bush.
I just watched Keith O and he revealed that bush saying he had foiled those terror plots was also an exaggerated bunch of crap. (in the SOTU address) just like the uranium from niger. lies lies ALL F$CKING LIES! the only thing that surprises me is that we continue to allow this deranged lying mentally deranged chimp to remain in our white house. the little bastard is unstable. he is leaving us no other option than impeachment and/ or prison. even the repugs in congress see how deranged he is. and the scooter libby case!!! CHENEY IS AS GUILTY AS HE CAN BE. Maxine Waters is not intimidated by cheny! ARE YOU!!! SHOW SOME BACKBONE DEMS AND START DIGGING US OUT OF THIS HELLISH MESS!
BUSH AND CHENEY HAVE GOT TO GO!!! ASAP!!!
Since 1992, Congressman Jerrold Nadler has ably represented the Eighth Congressional District in the House of Representatives. Nadler is a senior member of both the House Judiciary and Transportation committees. He was also recently named new Chair of the House Judiciary Committee’s Subcommittee on the Constitution, Civil Rights and Civil Liberties.
Nadler just authored the Protect the Troops and Bring Them Home Act (HR 455), which stipulates no funds can be used in Iraq except to protect the troops and arrange for their withdrawal beginning in one month and ending by December 31, 2007. Nadler’s act also provides that the number of U.S. troops in Iraq cannot be increased at any time.
Congressman Nadler graciously agreed to be interviewed by me in a podcast format. Among the topics we covered were his proposed legislation to withdraw troops from Iraq, former President Carter's controversial book, Israeli-Palestinian relations and the merits of impeaching President Bush and Vice President Cheney.
Listen to, "Sage of the Big Apple: A Podcast Interview With Congressman Jerrold Nadler" in the Intepid Liberal Journal.
mirror approach.
want to know the truth, apply a mirror approach. what they say is the opposite of the evidence. besides, they've got voicebox tony snow(job) to whitewash any discussion. cool the global conversation ... send out tony snow(machine) to defend the decider-divider aka pseudoscience moron playing president. in the meantime, we all better consider using less fossil fuels...increase carpooling, purchasing smaller vechiles w/smaller engines, or just oil up that ol' fashion bicycle and apply pedal power for short trips. given the decider-divider isn't listening to the wisdom about iraq... he will not listen to evidence that suggests global warming either.
I can not believe that our current administration would seek to undermine the efforts of scientist and environmentalist, not only in the United States, but world-wide, who have brought the issue of global warming to the fore-front of human development and its impact on the environment.
Good morning Dems!Barack Obama has come out and said he wants our troops out of Iraq.I caught that he wants them out by March.I`m not sure if he said this year or next.I suspect next year. You can feel the pressure coming on this administration slowly and surely in all kinds of areas.I think we owe a great deal of thanks to Al Gore for excelerating the global warming conversation. He put the stamp of "urgent" on this one.
Have you ever heard of someone saying or doing anything that didn't help them in some way? Even the people that strap on bombs to their person are looking for a lustful advantage in Paradise!
