Commemorating the Life of Susan Blad Seldin

The following resolution was adopted by the DNC Resolutions Committee at its meeting on February 1, 2007, in conjunction with the meetings of the Democratic National Committee, February 1-3, 2007.

Resolution Commemorating the Life of Susan Blad Seldin

WHEREAS, Susan Blad Seldin was a dedicated Democratic activist and grassroots organizer; and

WHEREAS, Blad Seldin was born in Orange County, California and attended California State University at Sacramento; and

WHEREAS, after studying political communications in college, she worked with the California Democratic Party; and

WHEREAS, in 1994, she joined the Democratic National Committee (DNC) staff as executive director of the College Democrats of America; and

WHEREAS, in 1998 she was named western states political director for the DNC; and

WHEREAS, during the 2000 presidential race, she served as deputy director of the DNC’s get-out-the-vote efforts in 25 states; and

WHEREAS, in 2001 she was a co-founder of FieldWorks, where she provided strategic advice to many Democratic groups; and

WHEREAS, throughout her career, she was dedicated to increasing the involvement of youth in the democratic process; and

WHEREAS, in 2006, she moved to San Francisco, but remained a partner in FieldWorks; and

WHEREAS, on October 14, 2006, at age 41, Blad Seldin passed away from complications after a successful bone marrow transplant to treat non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma;

THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Democratic National Committee (DNC) celebrates the life of Susan Blad Seldin and offers its deepest condolences to her husband David Seldin and their daughter Agnes.
