Nevada Dems Launch Caucus Site
Today the Nevada State Democratic Party launched a new website for the Nevada Democratic Presidential Caucus, which takes place next January 19, 2008. The site lets members of the Nevada Democratic Party search easily for upcoming events, candidate visits to Nevada and the latest caucus news.
Jill Derby, Chair of the Nevada State Democratic Party, wrote an email to introduce the site:
Together, we can reach every Nevadan, broaden the base of our party and reflect the western values of our great state. With your help, we are on our way to a successful 2008 campaign season, capturing the White House and restoring pride and real leadership at a critical moment in our history. It's up to us to take our country back, and our first step is a successful presidential caucus on January 19, 2008!
Nevada joins Iowa, New Hampshire and South Carolina as one of four states to hold their nominating event at the start of the primary season. This change to the early process will engage a broader range of people to talk about a wider variety of issues, enabling the Democratic Party to choose the strongest candidate to be our Presidential nominee.

Welcome to the early nominating process, Nevada. I live in South Carolina, and S.C. has recently been one of the early primary states. We vote on January 29th.
I think that the eventual nominee will more than likely have to win at least one of the 4 early states, or come in a close second in at least 2 of them. Because the later states will more than likely make their decisions based at least somewhat on what the early 4 states do. South Carolina, Nevada, Iowa, and New Hampshire will certainly narrow the field down considerably.
It is imperative that we nominate the right candidate for the presidential run in '08. To do that, we must know our opponent...the right wingers. I've spent a lot of time reading blogs, articles, and Republican strategy...a LOT OF TIME. Especially the last ten years.
Basically, the Republicans will throw out benign statements about Hillary Clinton as if they could care less about whether she's the Democratic nominee. In truth, they're wringing their hands in the hopes that, in fact, she does become the nominee. She's the one they can beat! She's the one with the baggage and "slick Willie" tagging along...both pretending to be lovebirds.
We should all know by now that the so-called Moral Majority/Right Wing/Republican Party are experts at digging up trash and pointing to it...and with great pronouncements of fear, suck-in fence-stradlers and thoughtful Republicans to once again vote for the "lesser of the two evils": the Republicans. I know this because my own Republican family speaks of this. I've heard many others speak similar messages. As good as Hillary and "Willie" are at gathering money from inside the beltway lobbyists an PAC money, let's not be fooled. "Big Bucks" doesn't guarntee a win because the big bucks represent special interests and huge corporations.
Likewise, because Barack Obama is a new face and a dynamic speaker, he is beginning to see stars in HIS eyes. But he too, in his naievety and inexperience, is being pulled in by lobbyists and special interest groups...but at a price...as in millions of dollars in campaign funds...which he will have to repay with his SOUL.
In essence, we need a candidate who will work for the American people and will not be beholding to special interests. That man would be John Edwards, who's $14 million campaign dollars was actually a greater achievement than either Hillary or Obama, since Edwards' funds came strictly from "grassroots" America. Edwards has stuck to his guns about NOT taking PAC money or money from lobbyists/special interest groups. The media fails to mention where the money comes from, either because they're too busy putting their story together or they overlook this important aspect. Actually, Edwards' grassroots contributions has been phenominal and probably the man we should get behind. Because with his great communication skills he will bring back to the foal, our allies whom George Bush has traumatized and become their favorite, sad joke.
Edwards is very clear on the issues that he champions for the American people. While Edwards may look pretty and APPEAR soft...don't be fooled, he has spent his career fighting big corporations for the little guy who can't fight for themselves. Edwards wins because he's smart and does his homework. I'm all for a woman president but Hillary isn't the one...bad timing, Whitewater, Slick Willie...just too much baggage. Obama will be great for another day...after a little more maturity. I beg all fellow Democrats and independents like myself, to think long and hard about the '08 Democratic nominee...because with the wrong candidate...the Republicans will find a way to beat us. However, we have had twenty years of Bushes and Clintons. The American people...the grassroots type are fed up and tired of dishonest powermongers who are in politics for themselves. But the time is RIPE for a Democratic president...if we get behind the right one. THINK! It's your best attribute.

I actually like them both, it's just that knowing what I know, I do not think either one of them can win the presidency...the Democratic nomination perhaps, but not the presidency. The "grassroots" voter won't allow it. All I'm asking is that we think long and hard about who can win for us. Big money and huge corporations this election cycle are a turn-off to the people who will determine the outcome. I know this: we can't stand another four or eight years of a Moral Majority president...unless we want to continue to be the joke of the world and our children weighing-down under the burden. We need to give our children a new legacy...a positive road ahead.

Demo Strategy...'08
Great going Jim, we will be watching Nevada very closely. I agree, the time is RIPE for a Democratic president. With my many years in politics, I'm sensing from my previous ten years of close observation and study that this election will be the most unusual since 1948...nearly sixty years. We have three great candidates...but at the risk of another eight years of right-wing incompetency and international embarrassment, I hope we get it right this time. As much as I like Hillary (too much baggage) AND Obama (too wide-eyed and inexperienced), I sense two candidates who can win the Democratic nomination but not the presidency. A "grassroots" candidate like Edwards is surging and may be the one we take a very close look at...a strong communicator, smart, and very appealing.
In the meantime, Nevada rocks, keep up the good work...we'll be watching.
The right candidate/
Demo Strategy...'08
Hmmmm, I wonder if Montana had a caucus, we could depose Sen. Bacchus in the primary, and find a viable candidate to run for Representative who could get support from the Democrats and win against a Republican (non) Representative for the House.
Rumor control has it that (non) Rep. Denny Rheburg is planning to run against Bacchus for Senate.
If that happens we might get stuck with weathervane Max for another term, but at least we could hope to pick up representation in the House, which is something we don't have right now.
