Tommy Thompson Campaign: Get Out While You Can

If Tommy Thompson's presidential run isn't over, it should be.

And this has nothing to do with his relatively light campaign chest. His remarks about Jewish people and tradition Monday revealed him simply to be ill-suited to the presidency.

Speaking to the Religious Action Center of Reform Judaism in Washington, D.C., Thompson said, "I'm in the private sector, and for the first time in my life I'm earning money. You know, that's sort of part of the Jewish tradition, and I do not find anything wrong with that."

Memo to Tommy Thompson: Good luck in retirement.

I think he meant that as a compliment. It's a shame he doesn't know the difference between one and an insult.

Thompson has raised his campaign security risk to Level Bright Orange.

I think that all of the Republican Presidential candidates except for Rudy Giuliani and John McCain may as well consider getting out of the race, because only Giuliani and McCain have any real chance of winning in '08, and they will have a difficult time winning. Because the public is so against the Republicans right now, and probably will continue to be.

On the Democratic side, I am glad that we have all of the candidates that we have, and I look forward to hearing from all of them during the debates (which starts in South Carolina on April 26th). But, I must be honest in saying that I think that of the Democratic candidates that are already in the race, I think that only Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama, John Edwards, and possibly Bill Richardson have a real chance at winning the Democratic nomination. But, I don't think that Christopher Dodd and Joseph Biden have much of a chance at winning the nomination. And, Mike Gravel and Dennis Kucinich have absolutely no chance at winning, because Mike Gravel is too old and too unknown, and Dennis Kucinich is too liberal and too unusual to win. However, I do think that there are two people, (Al Gore and Wesley Clark) that are not in the race, but would probably have a fairly decent chance at winning if they were to enter the race. Of course, that is not to say that they would have a better chance than Hillary or Barack, because actually, I think that they would have less of a chance at winning than Hillary or Barack. But, they would have a better chance than Dodd and Biden.

Personally, I hope that Barack wins. I like him best. I like John Edwards second best. I like the idea of Wesley Clark third, but he has yet to enter the race.

Lavinia,

I like Edwards, Obama, Richardson, and Clark. Clinton has clout and money, but she's the Republicans' dream candidate. But if she wins, I can support her. You are probably right about the rest not having a chance.

Born and raised in Wisconsin gives me every reason to not consider Tommy Thompson for any future political office. His governorship was riddled with corruption and he put us in debt for decades. Not till he left office for the Bush administration did we begin to find out just how far reaching his spending went. TEN private jets - I don't think a mid-west governor needed ten jets. He left our state in the very uncapable hands of Scott McCallum. We now have a Democrat for governor who takes health care and education seriously.
