Giuliani Exposed Workers and Public to Danger After 9/11

Rudy Giuliani has been accused many times of endangering the public in the weeks after the 9/11 attacks on the World Trade Center in New York City. Firefighters and other Ground Zero recovery workers filed a lawsuit against the city for not adequately protecting workers. Now, the first death linked to World Trade Center dust raises new questions about Giuliani’s 9/11 failures.
Giuliani asserted at a press conference in late September 2001 that,
"The air quality is safe and acceptable. And I know there are people that are concerned about it and people that are worried about it, but that’s just the reality."
But new documents show that Giuliani opened sections of downtown Manhattan in the weeks after the 9/11 attacks knowing that the air was toxic.
On Giuliani’s watch, city and federal officials hid important information about the true extent of contamination. The city’s Department of Environmental Protection found high levels of asbestos in 27 of the first 38 air samples it took in lower Manhattan before Sept. 17, 2001. But the city didn’t publicly disclose those results until five months later.
Giuliani didn’t even enforce federal requirements that workers at Ground Zero wear respirators. As a result, "more than 2,000 New York City firefighters have been treated for serious respiratory problems."
Giuliani’s problems with firefighters worsened when he withdrew from a planned appearance at the International Association of Firefighters presidential forum. The union responded by blasting him for "egregious acts" against the FDNY after 9/11.

I have thought a lot about Iraq today. About the deaths and the moral outrages we have committed there. I remember Bill Clinton's support of this invasion in the guise of being "strong and wrong"...that very sad phrase Clinton coined.
I think to myself...what if we had had the courage to speak out, to take a chance on being called "weak" by the bully boys...rather than holding to Bill Clinton's "strong and wrong."
This has been a very hard day. A day when I realized all over again that our Democrats, even those we trust so completely, have to play the game.

The worst part of today was when I got on the internet and realized there was no one who was spokesman for us anymore. Now and then someone will squeak out a condemnation of something other that happens in Iraq, but nothing really that consistent.
We given Bush everything he ever wanted, really. He got his war, he got his judges, he got his appointees with not much effort to stop any of them. He got the agenda he wanted.
He got pouty and threatened us and our children again, and we gave him more money for his war.
He has four months to do whatever he wants. The Iraqi cilivians are at his mercy actually.
There is so much sadness in that.
I am going to say a prayer for Governor Dean tonight. I think he must be conflicted. My husband and our daughters and I have followed nearly every word of his for 4 years.
My heart and soul tell me he can NOT be ok with this bill that was passed. He may have to say he is since Schoen and Carville are pushing for Harold Ford to get this job. Oh, heaven forbid!!
But we have followed too closely his campaign and his actions. He can not be ok with this at all.
We have given Bush power to do whatever he wants in Iraq and 100 billion to do it with.

We will say a prayer for a good man who can not possibly have believed this was good bill. We have trusted him so long.
Nothing suprises me about Rudy Giuliani, he is nothing but a big fake and he flip flops all over the place on issues like abortion trying to have it both ways and he has donated several times to Planned Parenthood yet he claims that hates abortion. How can you make a donation to a place when you say hate what they do? You can't, Giuliani can't keep his story straight. I don't think anyone really knows what he believes in or what he doesn't believe in. Giuliani also doesn't have a very good record when it comes to values and family. Giuliani will never win as President. I can see it now, the Republicans in the south would never vote for him if he got the nomination. I have to admit it's funny to watch and listen to Giuliani being all over the place on his positions. At the rate Republicans are going with all of their failures I see a Democratic victory in 2008. As far as new questions about his 9/11 failures, nothing these days would surprise me anymore when it comes to Republicans.
I cannot believe the democratic congress failed to understand what they are supposed to be doing? Stop the War stupid! Don't give W the money; make him and the republicans cut off financial support. I believe it is either the democrats who are supporting the republicans or the democrats are just too stupid to do the right thing by cutting off the war money. Maybe you should trust the american people that we know what action we want you to take. Stop the war now!!! And if you can't get the Republicans to over ride his veto then impeach Dick and W together which is what you should have started doing when the American People voted you into office. IMPEACH NOW! Can you please act like you care and take a strong course of action with some conviction to end the war. Please!!!

Can anyone say double standard Republican hypocrite? Giuliani flip flops all over the place on this issue.
What difference does it make what Guiliani does now? He could rape a baby while dressed in drag on the White House steps and because you've betrayed the people of this country by funding this illegal invasion you've lost the White House in 08'.
Fighting for peace is like screwing for virginity.
I guess people do not care what Guiliani has done or has said. In a poll it shows that Guiliani will kick Clintons butt for the White House. This is why this country is screwed up.
With all the lies, all the killing and the way that George Bush and the Republicans have put this country in the sewer the American people will put another lying Republican back in the White House. This is why Cindy Sheehan quit. And this is why we have such a low turn out at the election polls. People do not think when they vote. They let TV and the radio tell them how to vote. This country is truly sad.
