O'Reilly Defends "White, Christian, Male Power Structure;" McCain Smiles and Nods

Posted by Michael Link on May 31, 2007 at 09:55 AM

John McCain's campaign posted this YouTube clip of the Senator on the O'Reilly Factor:

Near the end of the video, there was this exchange:

Bill O'Reilly: But do you understand what the New York Times wants, and the far-left want? They want to break down the white, Christian, male power structure, which you're a part, and so am I, and they want to bring in millions of foreign nationals to basically break down the structure that we have. In that regard, Pat Buchanan is right. So I say you've got to cap with a number.

John McCain: In America today we've got a very strong economy and low unemployment, so we need addition farm workers, including by the way agriculture, but there may come a time where we have an economic downturn, and we don't need so many.

[crosstalk]

O'Reilly: But in this bill, you guys have got to cap it. Because estimation is 12 million, there may be 20 [million]. You don't know, I don't know. We've got to cap it.

McCain: We do, we do. I agree with you.

If these two are representation of the white, Christian, male power structure, it would appear that it is aging fast and what's left is scared to death that they are losing control.

Can you imagine how they will be treated in a nursing home someday after so blatantly demonstrating their contempt for the very workers who will have them at their mercy?

I suppose I would be scared, too. These guys need a cap alright...at thinking cap.

Honestly, it would have been much easier on all of us if McCain had just kept his promise from last fall.

"... a very strong economy..."? The first estimate of GDP for the first quarter was a weak 1.7%. (Today comes the news that it was revised downward to a scant 0.6%.) McCain's campaign aides are not keeping him informed. Either that, or Old John is senile.

but its not about racism, i like the way Johnny Mac said these muslims from ft dix used our southern border to come into america. that is the first i have heard of this anywhere. 50% of illegals come here legally and extend illegally their visas. a 10 thousand mile fence a hundred feet high won't stop this, nor would a million border patrol officers. we have no way to track people once they are here, and that is a price we pay for an open society.

Uh, Biff, aren't you actually proving O'Reilly's point with your idiotic, dystopian, and yes, BIGOTED eugenics argument? According to your world view, we shouldn't be able to distinguish L.A. from the "It's a Small World" ride at Disneyland. It's ethnic parochials like you that constantly set back the work of this Party. Maybe Barach will win, and he can staighten your ignorant ass out.

This is a racist exchange anyway you cut it. And these guys particularly O'Reilly would be the first to try to tell you on any other day race is just not that much of an issue in politics and economics in America today. Bullshit!

It's odd that it's so blatantly said - I mean, they're using the discourse of conflict theory, which is criticizing exactly what they're defending. I mean, how weird is it for a person to say, "They're trying to break down the vast international conspiracy of rich old white men, of which I am a member..." What is the angle with that?

As racist as it was, though, what about the blatant sexism? Is it now ok to admit that the power structure excludes women? Damn.

And then McCain posted it to his website - he thinks this is flattering??? Does he not need Republican women's votes to get the nomination? Are there now more racist mysogynists among Republican primary voters than there are women?

The elephant in the room no one wants to talk about is how destructive this Amnesty is to us black people.
Already in Los Angeles, ethic cleansing is taking place. With Black unemployment running over 35% we don't need any more kicks in the shins.
But some politicians own us (or they think they do)

Actually both McCain and O'reilly got it wrong, they are both wrong. The illegal immigration problem that we have has nothing to do with religion or race and both McCain and O'Reilly made fools out of themselves for saying that. The problem with illegal immigration is that it drives down middle class wages, only big business benefits no body else. Big business wants it only for cooperate greed, to pay the cheapest wage possible. Also, another reason why the United States can't afford to continue to take on millions and millions of people is because our Social Security system and Medicare is going to go bankrupt but then again Republicans would love that. My dad is from Canada and I can everyone here first hand about the problem with illegal immigration. Canada is to the left of California and they wouldn't tolerate it being out of control and neither should the United States. Instead what we should be doing is helping to educate people who want to come here so that they can do it the right and legal way this way everyone is paying their fair share of taxes, big business won't be able use people for poverty wages, it's a win win situation when things are done the right way.
O'Reilly and McCain are very wrong on their recent comments. It has nothing to do with religion and race. Just look at Mexico alone, most of the people that come here from there are Catholic. O'Reilly and McCain have got their facts wrong and not only that it the comments were uncalled for. Some Republicans claim that we need more immigrants here to do the jobs that Americans won't do and that is a pure lie and spin to help big business. The truth is that big business doesn't want to pay Americans a normal wage that they can live on. Outsourcing for the sole purpose of cheap overseas labor is another good example of that to prove that it's all about cooperate greed.

Allison, that was my reaction, too. Sure, McCain just smiled and nodded (the proverbial "I'm secretly one of you, wink, wink") implicitly endorsing O'Reilly's statements without saying so explicitly. But then the campaign put the clip prominently on the website! Which, to me, is a blatant endorsement of O'Reilly's words.

I can't agree that McCain agreed with O'Reilly about the "white, Christian, male power structure", however, you did miss something more important (in my eyes) and, perhaps, more blatantly racist. At 1:36 on the clip:

O’Reilly: [...]this will sink the Republican Party, I believe, - we’d have a one party system - and change, pardon the pun, the whole complexion of America. Am I wrong?

McCain: No. You’re right.

Quite obviously McCain agreed that the influx of immigrants from the south will change the complexion of America and that is typical racist fear mongering.

I will be the first to omit that I watched O'Reilly when he first came on fox. But the honeymoon was soon over when I finally woke up and realized that he was a mad man. And it came to me that the whole Republican Party was insane.
It does not surprise my in the least what McCain has said. When I see all the hate and stupidity
that is in the republican party It scares me because there are people in this country that think the same way. And they vote with there back ends when they pull that lever for a republican. You know you are a redneck if you vote with your back end. The only thing that keeps a republican going is his gun and ammo. Who cares if the world is going to hell as long as they have a gun.

Wow, Michael... You're famous!! http://newsbusters.org/node/13132

This site claims to expose and combat "liberal media bias."I have to admit, out of all the Dem-bashers on the site, this guy is my favorite...SportPolitics Says:Oh well, at least someone was honest for once. The women and minorities and gays and freaks and muslims have been screaming as well as shillary herself about the good ol boys network, and now we're all supposed to pretend to STOP them from destroying it is a bad thing?Wow, talk about a standing disadvantage.Statement "I want to destroy you."Answer "I can't stand what you're trying to do, but we really don't exist."Result "America turns into a ****hole of incompentent hateful illegal minorities, raging feminazis with their gay activist and drug addled crybaby losers ruling the roost."As far as I'm concerned, their idea is to destroy, because they say it is, and they do a pretty good job of it.Thank you for summing up the entire Repug party for us all, SportPolitics. Keep fighting the good fight for your "good ol boys network."
