Newt Gingrich

Newt's Global Warming Flip-Flop

Newt Gingrich, referring to the global warming debate, used to talk about a "politically driven mass hysteria of scientists." He questioned whether global warming existed, and seemed to suggest it was just as likely Europe would experience an ice age.

But in a recent debate with John Kerry, he appears to have changed his position, possibly in preparation for a presidential run. Here's what CNS had to say about his change of mind:

"It is a problem," Gingrich said of global warming. "We should address it."

Gingrich was speaking during a debate in Washington, D.C., with Sen. John Kerry (D-Mass.) over the proper way to address environmental issues.

At Kerry's prodding, Gingrich criticized global warming skeptics like Sen. James Inhofe (R-Okla.), saying that "the evidence is such that we should move toward the most effective possible steps to reduce carbon [dioxide emissions]."
