Rudy Blasts Chavez, But Defends His Work for Citgo
Posted by Mike Gehrke on May 2, 2007 at 12:56 PM
Rudy Giuliani yesterday called Hugo Chavez, leader of oil-rich Venezuela, a dangerous foe of the United States--even though Giuliani's law firm lobbies for the U.S. branch of an oil company controlled by Chavez.
Giuliani never mentioned his law firm's contract with Citgo Petroleum to a crowd of Hispanic small business owners, even as he said that it is Chavez's vast oil wealth that gives him a platform for his anti-American activities in the region.
Calling for energy efficiency to wean Americans from foreign oil, Giuliani said:
"We need a president who knows how to get things done so we don't have to be sending money to Chavez. Who would listen to Chavez if he didn't have all this oil money?"
His law firm, Bracewell & Giuliani, lobbies in Texas for Citgo--a subsidiary of Venezuela's national oil company, controlled by Chavez.
At the same time, Giuliani has strenuously defended his law firm's work for Citgo because the company employs about 4,000 workers here.

So an oil rich platform is to be criticized because of anti-american sentiment?
Hey Rudy..What say you about the Saudi Arabia oil rich platform and hmmm...the leveling of a couple of buildings in your home town?
Think there is any anti-american sentiment there, ya f***in' idiot?

are hugo chavez's comments anti american or anti GW? i have never heard him speak ill of the american people.
I guess Chevez isn't that big of an account. I hope the law firm doesn't depend on the revenue to keep them afloat. Giuliani has a funny way of managing business. I can only assume the also represent the oil concerns for Iran or Libya, too?
"We need a president who knows how to get things done so we don't have to be sending money to Chavez. Who would listen to Chavez if he didn't have all this oil money?"
What a great idea Rudy! We need a President who knows how to get things done by receiving money from Chavez. Bought and paid for to peddle his influence. Uh...didn't Chavez call your fearless leader the Devil? Never mind his check is good...
SCREW GUILIANI!
WHO CARES?
great. as if rudy weren't bad enough as is, we can now add "oil flunky" to the list.
do we really need another schmo in the whitehouse who is owned by the oil industry???
i don't think so.
It appears Governor Giuliani along with his campaign is slipping on oil while Chavez is eating bananas and throwing the peels.
Anything Chavez says is anti-American must be anti-Venezuelan too because just like Bush has upset our stable form of Democracy, so has Chavez upset Venezuela's stable form of Democracy after he was elected to office.
Yes, Chavez has destabilized Venezuelan's democracy, just as the Republicans have here. For six years we've seen capitalism at it's worse when gov't crawls in bed with it and the PEOPLE allow it.
Chavez calls Bush a Devil and he's right.
In the final analysis, Republicans cry too much.
Maybe Giuliani's law firm was involved in the arab money laundering to get both bush idiots elected that was documented on cbc "conspiracy theories' a couple of years ago. go to cbc tv to look it up.
if Giuliani can be the president of the united states just because he assisted the funeral of the 911 victims, george bush would also have a third term if only he assisted to the funeral of one fallen soldier coming from iraq
So, Rudy, how exactly is doing lobbying work for (and therefore, getting paid for that work by) your "dangerous foe" not in any way hypocritical? I can't wait to hear this.
Chavez does not state he is an enemy of the US, just GW, as stated before. Citgo helped poor Americans get discounted heating oil, when GW could have cared less if US citizens froze to death. The facts need to be checked.
Yes Rudi, Check the facts, Didn't we try to overthrow Chavez's government not once but twice? (Check www.democracy.org) That might put a chip on some ones shoulder. Also for the record we buy about a third of our oil from Venezuela. For that we ought to have gratitude flowing in both directions. We need more listening and thinking, and less ego in this country. I also have read stories of Chavez's government putting allot of money into social programs for its citizens who voted him in at larger percentage of the population then any of our elections.
I miss typed the link earlier to find out more about our (US) governments role in coup overthrow in 2002 or 04 can't remember. But its there at www.democracynow.org great source for real information on what our government is doing in other countries in our name.
Hey Sirchadwic
Couldnt help commenting on your comment. What do you know about Venezuela anyway? What you read here or see on TV? We don't get a third of our oil from Venezuela, and secondly there is flow going back to them, some people call it money for the crude dummy. We don't get that for free. As far as Chavez putting money to "Where it it needed"? I also noticed that you did not say anything about the middle and upper class moving out of Venezuela in record numbers. Or my friend whom is married to a Venezuelan friend whom is not allowed to bring Moneys into Venezuela to take care of his family, because he wants control over people and afraid of a coup. I am not a republican or democrat, but I do not need any politcal web site to try and brain wash me. Chavez is the Devil not Bush. Bush has his problems, but Chavez is another Stalin or Lenin. You are just too ignorant or plane ole stupid to admit it. As long as it is a socialist style government, the dems will back it. I want no one in my pocket book.
Hey Tex, Bush is the devil and democrats are not plane (sic) ole stupid or ignorant. That man is not right, something sinister about him. Your comments are misdirected. I watched the red debates last night and I couldn't bear it any more because they were pathetically stupid and ignorant. Democrats have so much over the reds; the republicans came as across as arrogant and intellectually challenged. Regarding Chavez, he funds the oil program for the financially challenged US citizens. I didn't see the reds giving up any crude oil. But they'll be the first to have their hands out for profit. And that's what it's all about: oil. They'll prostitute not only themselves but anything for the sake of oil monies.
