Fred Dalton Thompson, K Street Lobbyist

Posted by Stephanie Taylor on June 15, 2007 at 04:13 PM

A profile of Fred Thompson in USA Today this week highlighted his long, long career as a K Street lobbyist:

Although the folksy-sounding Tennessean recently told USA TODAY that he would run as an outsider, just as he did while campaigning as a "country lawyer" in a red pickup during his 1994 U.S. Senate race, his resume is that of a longtime Washington operative who has crossed ideological lines to represent corporate and foreign clients.

In his most recent stint in Washington, Thompson worked for Equitas, a London company lobbying Congress to limit liability for asbestos-related illnesses. Thompson opponents accused him of being a "Gucci-wearing, Lincoln-driving, Perrier-drinking, Grey Poupon-spreading millionaire Washington special-interest lobbyist," but a Thompson spokesperson said that this was "not an issue at all." From the Washington Post:

He said that Thompson is proud to have been a lobbyist and believed in Equitas's cause. "It's an honorable endeavor," Carallo added. "He was retained to do a job, and he did it to the best of his abilities."

Of course, he is also an actor--gifted at pretending to be someone he's not.

Who are the 50 Democrats who voted for Tancredo's bill to deprive cities who take care of their immigrants any money for emergencies.

I want their names, and then I want their heads on a silver platter.

While they were voting against the teachings of Christ to care for each other, Governor Dean today was speaking words of compassion.

Here are the Democrats who voted for Tancredo's punitive bill.

I am ashamed to say I donated to some of them through DFA candidate lists. I won't make that mistake again.

Please, of pretty please, let this man win the GOP nomination.

A lobbyist by no other name is a corrupt opportunist, who in this case, actually openly worked for several foreign governments to the deterement of American citizens.

The GOP couldn't give the American people a clearer choice next year...a Democratic candidate (any of them qualify) who will uphold the American Dream of equal opportuity and the liberties promised in the Bill of Rights

versus

a Republican who worked for foreign interests to further "their cause" at the expense of American workers and taxpayers.

Thompson is the personification of outsourcing, illegal hiring, unfair trade deals, payola/bribes, and a tax structure that is killing the Middle Class and Working Poor...and he has a resume to show it.

He also looks like Rush Limbaugh and acts stupid while performing his "macho" act just like Bush.

At least Spunky doesn't smoke cigars, eats right, and exercises. Thompson appeals to their base of sexually-confused and racist fundie males with borderline IQs...the famed 28%.

Independents and women voters will be voting in big numbers this time for stability and change. They are the ones who will determne the outcome in 2008 and they aren't going to vote for a Cheney retread.

Would the Republicans be stupid enough to nominate him? Is Cheney a secretive, arrogant incompetent with a Napoleonic complex?

Bring him on and throw in Newt or Romney, too, for good measure. They have the WWIII and flip-flop stance covered. McCain and Giulliani have the age issue and mob connections if they want to go that route.

But Thompson is the one that looks and feels like a lying, foreign sympathizer. He turned his back on the interests of his own countrymen for money and "he did it to the best of his abilities."

I like Fred Thompson. The man is brilliant, and he is an accomplished public figure both in government and on the air waves. What he stands for is realistic and prudent. He would make a fine presidential candidate.

I wouldn't worry about this guy. First of all, most of America doesn't care to have such a conservative idealogue, second, he's out and out lazy, which will bring him lots of fatigue on the campaign trail.

And Governor Dean spoke about the fired judges issue very clearly. He said they were fired for not doing enough to suppress the vote. Good for you, Governor.

Thompson is the perfect Republican candidate--never mind the fact that he's neither a statesman, nor represent anything the founding fathers envisioned as American values--but he can look and "act" presidential long enough to mislead the American people. He's another Ronald Reagan--who should have been impeached for treason instead of glorified, by the way. Yes, he's true Rpublican material (Stop spinning, Mr. Jefferson. Have faith--We'll pull it together).

Fred Thompson meeting with K Street lobbyists. Who in the democratic party hasn't met with a lobbyist? Dingy Harry Reid meets with lobbyists everyday. But we don't talk about liberals meeting with lobbyists. No, no. Just the right wing Republican "kooks" get the spotlight on this. Harry Reid takes lobbyist money all the time, I guarantee it. Otherwise he wouldn't be pushing the fringe left wing ideals he's trying to push now. Simple as that. Get Dingy Harry Reid out of the House and try him for crimes against the country!! I think in wartime it's called treason.

****

Not at all! Reagan had an optimistic personality. freddy boy is sour and can be downright nasty. Don't get taken in by the actor stuff.

Also, Reagan had a track record as governor and came right from governor job to presidential race. Freddy boy has been out of politics a long time ...

Another difference ... freddy boy is just plain lazy!

Nope, he is not even close to the reincarnation of reagan though the gop wants you to believe that sound bite for the simple reason that they are panicing.
