Romney Blames Puppy in 'PuppyGate'

Yes, it's the cutest name ever for a scandal, but let's not forget that Mitt Romney may have broken the law here. With the story picking up steam, as puppy-owners across America voice their outrage, he has finally been forced to respond.
First he tried the dog-needed-fresh-air defense, but it was just too obvious that strapping a dog to the top of a speeding vehicle for 12 hours on the highway wasn't as responsible, as, say, opening a window.
So now he's blaming the dog. Yes, really. Apparently the puppy strapped himself to the top of the car: “He scrambled up there every time we went on trips, got in all by himself and enjoyed it.”
Blaming the puppy? Is he going to start claiming the dog ate his budget?
UPDATE: Did McCain come out swinging at Romney over PuppyGate? From a fundraising email that just came out from the McCain campaign:
The McCains are big pet lovers, their pets include:
* Four dogs: an English Springer Spaniel, two toy Yorkies, and a mutt
Coincidence? I think not.
UPDATE 2: I decided to dig around the Humane Society website to see what it had to say about traveling by car with your dog, and the results are not surprising (emphasis mine):
It is also a good idea to travel with your pet in the back seat of the car (although, never in the bed of a pick up truck!), because of the possibility of a front-seat passenger side airbag deploying and causing possible harm to your pet in an accident.
Dogs and cats should always be kept safely inside the car. Pets who are allowed to stick their heads out the window can be injured by particles of debris or become ill from having cold air forced into their lungs. Never transport a pet in the back of an open pickup truck.
Stop frequently to allow your pet to exercise and eliminate. Never permit your pet to leave the car without a collar, ID tag, and leash.
It's important to note that they weren't stopping frequently, either, for the dog.

I'm so impressed with Mike Link's breaking puppy coverage!
Kidding about McCain. But yes, I do think it's dishonest to blame the puppy for supposedly strapping himself to the roof of his car for 12 hours.
First off, who lets a dog (which, by the definition of the species, has no retractable claws) climb on their car. There would be scratches and I doubt that anyone would allow their dog to do that. Second, for smaller dogs, it would be difficult to climb on to the top of a car. And even if they want to do something, doesn't mean that you should let them. Not to mention that the dog didn't climb up there when the car was moving--I wonder why he didn't try--the natural instinct to avoid danger perhaps. Proving that there is no evidence that he wanted to be up there when the car was MOVING.
My dog has wanted to chew my shoes and she would have eaten the Thanksgiving turkey if given the chance. She would wander on the road to interest herself, too. Dogs will also lick up anti-freeze. Nevertheless, I don't allow my dog to, metaphorically speaking, "jump up on the roof of the car".
He says that the dog enjoys being up on the roof of a car. You can't see objects secured to the roof of a car when you are in them.
Who does that to their dog? Man's best friend? Apparently not to Mitt Romney. Better make sure he's not elected-the First Dog is going to be strapped to the top of Air Force One.
I believe this shows us some of what Mitt Romney is really like when it comes to standing up and taking the blame where it really belongs on HIMSELF, just like our president does (well doesn't do). We wonder why our children are turning out the way they are nowadays, look at what they see and hear from our officials who can't even admit when they do wrong and than they don't even get punished for it because they are Our Government, Republicans or Democrats!! Wake up America.....
So, this proves that Mitt Romeny is stupid, uncaring, knows nothing about owning a pet, and needs have that poor dog impounded so it can go to a better home.
He treats a dog like that, how is he going to treat the rest of us?
Mitt Romney is probably a good man, however I do not think he should be our president. I do not want to defame him, but I think that we can not trust the Republican Party after the disgraceful acts of the current administration. It seems that many of them have disregard for the law in exchange for executive power. In essence, our country would not be independent if it were not for resistance against such a lack of fair and democratic value. It is important that we restore the classic American value of the Rule of Law. In realty the only way in which we can do this is by electing a member of the Democratic Party.
Right...the mutt that McCain owns must be Hillary Clinton.
So what if the dog got the upper deck for the journey. At least it wasn't hoisted by the ears so the White House press could hear it yelp. Gee, who could have done that...must have been LBJ...wasn,t he a Democrat?
