BREAKING: Reid Will Force All-Night Senate Session on Tuesday

Posted by Stephanie Taylor on July 16, 2007 at 02:37 PM

Sen. Harry Reid (D-NV) just announced minutes ago that if the Republicans filibuster the Reed-Levin troop redeployment bill, he will force the Senate on Tuesday into an all-night debate session. From Bob Geiger:

"Now, Republicans are using a filibuster to block us from even voting on an amendment that could bring the war to a responsible end," said Reid. "They are protecting the President rather than protecting our troops. They are denying us an up or down--yes or no --vote on the most important issue our country faces."

The Reed-Levin amendment to the Department of Defense Authorization Bill requires George Bush to "commence the reduction of the number of United States forces in Iraq not later than 120 days after the date of the enactment of this Act" and mandates a withdrawal of most combat forces by April 30, 2008.

More to come...

UPDATE (by Mike): Here's information about a MoveOn event in DC to put pressure on Republicans for siding with President Bush:

Who: Members of Congress, Iraq war veterans, and MoveOn members like you
What: Candlelight call to action to support the Levin-Reed amendment to bring our troops home
Where: Upper Senate Park across from the U.S. Capitol. Constitution Ave NW, between New Jersey Ave and Delaware Ave. Washington, DC 20001
When: Tuesday, July 17th at 8:30 p.m.

well, this is something to get excited about.
someone called from the DCC earlier trying to get money. the kid asked for $100 and I said "are you serious?" I'm sure his records show that I am usually a $20 donor max. so I proceed to give him a mouthfull about how I can't stand hillary because of her war vote, I am over voting for someone just because they are a democrat, I'm not even a Dem anymore, bush should be impeached, I want GORE etc etc he just kept trying to get me to COMMIT to even $10. I told him to send me something in the mail and we'd see what kind of mood I was in that day. I did however tell him that I am happy with the job that Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid are doing. I feel they are trying. you can't end this madness overnight but I feel they are trying. this is really something to get excited about!

I also told the kid that when it was time to vote in 2004 ALOT of people wished that Howard Dean was the candidate. I added that until the votes are counted correctly-the amount of money they raise doesn't matter. he assured me he would pass all this on to Nancy.

Political bomb? Yes.

Backfire on the Democrats? Certainly no.

The Democrats have been rallying Republican support for removing the war on terror. President Bush knows this well because the instant this 'rebellion' started (note: since the Democrats came into office) he threatened to veto and has vetoed 5 very much key bills. As The Gavel said, "over %60".

Bush's loyal supporters are, and have been, running a smear campaign against the Democrats. Not only have their supporter websites taken and twisted Democratic words into mindless 'catch phrases' and in some cases the media dwells on one sentence of a speech alone, elaborating and twisting the meaning around until there is nothing left but political bias.

There's three sides. GOP, RNC, and DNC. Why do I mention Republicans twice? Because there are two kinds of Republicans now. Bush-supporter and of course, the Anti-war Republicans.

There is no solution to the Iraq War. If Americans really want the war to end, and they truly care for their ‘Soldiers’, then they will immediately, without hesitation, cease and desist from driving their cars. Other than that, you have no one to blame but yourselves. Also, I have news for you folks. Bush is ‘The Leaker’.

In the Name of Brutus

Dames and Gents,

In times unprecedented and tinged with despair, it is appropriate to reflect on the founding of our great nation. It was not with George Washington, but with Brutus, and not the one who killed Caeser. There was another who rebelled against the tyrant monarchy of Rome, The Tarquins. He wrote the Roman Constitution that would stand for 500 years. His sons sided with the monarchy. The monarchy lost. So to punish his sons and found a perfect union, he immolated his own sons.
Machiavelli speaks fluently and voluminoulsy and voiciferously on this subject, in ‘The Discourses’, and yet is proved wrong on several counts by the miracle of America. He says that a nation founded in servitude, as America was a colony, will never win its freedom. He also says that a nation founded on fertile soil that is easily defended, will in time loose all of its freedoms because it will become, eventually, inevitably, sloth and sated, and will forget to protect them.
As regards 'The DC Madam', I am personally involved. You can view my involvement at http://www.maytheygetwhattheydeserve.com/KAT.html
Sometimes a mouse will lead you to a kat, and a kat can lead you to a rat and a rat, ironically, can lead you to the truth. And the truth, as they say, and as it is written, will set you free.
May all those who sincerely and patiently wait for freedom be free and may all those who desire to steal those freedoms find instead the dire consequences that accompany contempt for a great man like Brutus.

As regards Machiavelli,
eram sapiens tamen nefas
And again,
vox vocis publicus est vox vocis deus

May The Republic stand forever and bring the Glory Of The World, with Dignity, into Its Treasury.

Why, oh Why, can someone explain WHY, our elected officials will not do the will of the people? They said a lot of things last fall to get elected, then Pelosi put a halt on cleaning up our government, I really do not think that it is worth while staying, knowing that the leaders we voted for, refuse to do what we ask and refuse to clean up our country. Soon, not only the other countries, but our own, will look at us as fools.

Sadie you go girl! Gore/Richardson 2008. Look at what they have accomplished - we need movers and shakers and people who are not afraid to flaunt their values. Get people moving!

We should have started impeachment proceedings on November 8th 2007.
