Cost of Iraq War Now $12 Billion a Month

Posted by Stephanie Taylor on July 6, 2007 at 02:19 PM

American operations in Iraq now cost $12 billion a month, and the total cost of the war could reach $1.4 trillion, according to a new report from the Congressional Research Service. From Danger Room:

Additional war costs for the next 10 years could total about $472 billion if troop levels fall to 30,000 by 2010, or $919 billion if troop levels fall to 70,000 by about 2013. If these estimates are added to already appropriated amounts, total funding could be $980 billion to $1.4 trillion by 2017. [Italics mine]

Meanwhile, Inside Defense also reports that "top Pentagon budget and program officials have directed the military services to prepare spending proposals to finance Iraq and Afghanistan operations... through fiscal year 2009, which will span the last days of the Bush administration and the early months of the next administration."

simple statment: we average honest taxpaying americans will be paying this bill. the maifa at the whitehouse which created this iraqmire insures that their no bid cronies collect the cash at the expense of our finest who return to sub-standard rehab and an uncertain future.

simple question: isn't there something wrong with this picture and the demos with a backbone say?

america: Make that no-bid TAX-FREE cronies.
It's the rest of us who have to pay through the nose for Bush's war crimes, on top of him murdering our kids.

This Democratic congress needs to use the power of the purse and cut off the funding of the Iraq war and or impeach both Bush and Cheney!

DemocratKickingAss on July 7, 2007 at 02:03 AM

butte. the sicko playing president has the blood of iraqi kids to be held accountable for too. yep, i'm convinced the rest of the world is beyond sick of sicko too. he's got us all in one big fine mess... including the big truck bombing today. yea, we're fighting them overthere(?). add to my original above comment this question ... how many bush's and cheney's and rove's kin are fighting for this so called "iraqi freedom?"

america1st on July 7, 2007 at 02:45 PM

and another question: why is it the iraqis are at fault for not taking over ... yet, who's the sicko that obliterated the pottery rule besides mismanangmement and hype, not to mention lack of post plannin' leading to this iraqmire we honest taxpayers will be paying for who knows how long? uh, too easy a question.

america1st: I realize that there's a lot of innocent Iraqis being killed, thousands more than our kids.
However, human nature being what it is, it hits a lot closer to home when you mention American kids, especially when you're trying to convert war supporters, like some of the Republi-lite sell-outs in this party.
Why aren't the Iraqis standing up? Why did the Bushies destroy the Iraqi police and military infrastructure, putting trained people out of work wholesale, pissing them off, and leaving the Iraqis hanging out in the breeze?
There were a lot of Baathists in name only who were professionals who gave lip service to the party line in order to be able to do their jobs.
The arrogant incompetent elitist Bushies came in, fired the whole lot in a grandstanding show of egoism, instead of finding and retaining the professionals. Oh, wait! didn't they just do that in our government too?
Now instead of having a good foundation to build on these incompetent clueless boneheads are starting from scratch.

Why worry about the cost or the lives lost by this war anymore. The more it comes out that the republicans are lying everytime they open there months they go up in the polls. Look at Fred Thomson. He is now tried with Clinton in the polls.
This country is screwed up. Watch the stupid people vote another Republican back into the White House. I wish my wife and I could leave this country. I'm so sick of the GOD fearing republicans. They only talk about God to get them in Office. And the Stupid Christians fall for it everytime.

Violent weekend in Iraq kills over 220
BAGHDAD - Prominent Shiite and Sunni politicians called on Iraqi civilians to take up arms to defend themselves after a weekend of violence that claimed more than 220 lives, including 60 who died Sunday in a surge of bombings and shootings around Baghdad. The calls reflect growing frustration with the inability of Iraqi security forces to prevent extremist attacks.

How much more time do they need? The Iraqis have had over 4 years and they still aren't able to take care of things on their own? This is pure nonsense! This is the result of Bush's failed Iraq policy of stay the course and it's no wonder the Iraqis aren't taking care of things of themselves and this will only continue until the US puts a time table to withdraw from there. We never should've been there in the first place. Iraq is now a haven for terrorists which is horrible! It wasn't like this before. I said it before and I'll say it again. This administration is going to go down as the worst in the history of the country!!!

********

Don't lump me in with them. I'm a Christan but I plan to vote for Hillary Clinton. Never again will fall for anything these far right idiot Republicans have to say. They have proven themselves to be liars and corrupt.

DemocratKickingAss on July 9, 2007 at 01:11 AM

Unfortunately, this is not the sort of thing the party in control of congress should be touting. "What we've been unable to reign in now costs $12bn a month". Do something about it, don't cave in immediately to veto threats... action and substance, not rhetoric.

This from one of the proudest dems of all. It's time to get a spine or lose our majority again; we can't blame everything on a 'razor-thin' majority, that alone doesn't explain congressional Dems' inability to hold a tough line.

Cindy Sheehan vs. Nancy Pelosi: The American people have already impeached President Bush by judging him to be one of the worst presidents in American history.

john_mainstream on July 9, 2007 at 08:57 AM

We have an administration that is truely corrupt. We have a Congress that is truely ineffectual. We have a psychotic nation that re-elects all the above. Truely.

15
Conscious on July 9, 2007 at 06:07 PM

These people get re-elected for one simple reason. You vote for em just because of their party. What do you expect. They don't have to work, they don't have to prove anything, they just say, yeah I am a lifelong Democrat, or a lifelong Republican.

I thought this new congress was going to kick ass, democratkickingass! They have done zip. You must have a government working together not working against each other. It takes three in this party to tango. Congress, Senate and the Pres.

Too much anger and too much vengence in the US government. Be smart and start preparing for the worse. There is only one person I trust in this world, and that is me. I will do the best thing for me. Everyone else can do their thing. Because you think you are for a good cause you are all just brain washed.

PoliticalBS on July 10, 2007 at 01:02 PM

You know what PoliticalBS - your absolutely right on the money. libs vote for the dem ticket regardless of whether that person has ANY qualifications to be in office. They vote simply because of their party affiliation. I can at least speak for myself, a registered Republican, that I at look at what each candidate stands for, regardless of party affiliation and then make a desicion. But 99.9% of the time, dems will vote for a dem just for the sake of the candidate being a dem. Spot on!

17
RushBabies on July 10, 2007 at 10:08 PM

And sadly, I know some Republicans that are like that, too. A shame really...

18
RushBabies on July 10, 2007 at 10:10 PM

Yeah, well, that is what makes the ole USA what it is. Gives you the chance to make alot of money, then you have to hide it to keep it. If it aint the crooks trying to get it, then the democrati....sorry, then a political party wants to get it. So we have to go about our daily lives, keeping our money hidden and slowly leaking it into the system, when we could be pooring it in at a higher rate and doing more for the economy. But, I guess they make me save more, so there is something good to say about em....don't you think?

Democratorpop on July 11, 2007 at 05:49 AM

Rushbabies,

I was PoliticalBS, but they kicked me out yesterday. So, like the soldier I am, and not going to let some ole liberal kick my ass, I just start a new address, and Guess what, SURPRISE, SURPRISE, SURPRISE. You know, there is more than one way to skin a cat. This is the real problems with the Dems, they can't think out of the box. And if you can, that means you are always looking for ways to overcome and to adapt. They want people to depend on government. I want government to stay out of my life.

Democratorpop on July 11, 2007 at 05:54 AM

Hey John Mainstream; "The americans have already impeached Bush?" I don't think bush is too worried about how he ranks with Clintons, Kennedys and Carters. They were all loosers. Clinton rode the Republican wave, Kennedy was too busy with Marylin Monroe and not taking care at the Bay of Pigs, which later brought about the cuban Missile Crisis. An ole Carter, well, he needs to just keep on being a carpernter. he i s pretty good at that.

Democratorpop on July 11, 2007 at 06:01 AM

Hey Butte, we meet again in the cat and mouse game called political BS. You know me. You guys kicked me off of here several months ago cause you didn't like the things I was saying. Cmon, you know. I am working over here.

Lets be friends. It was 112 F this afternoon. Hot. Anyway, I see you have a new kicking around yacking partner. He or she, won't talk to me though. Some donkey kicking ass. Anyway, let cut throught the BS and get down to it shall we.
