Democrats Push for Troop Readiness
Posted by Michael Link on July 9, 2007 at 01:48 PMThis afternoon, with the 2-week debate beginning for the defense authorization bill, Democrats will push to bring the war in Iraq to an end. It begins with the Jim Webb Troop-Readiness Amendment, which is being introduced today in the Senate.
The amendment would require that active-duty troops have at least the same amount of time at home as the length of their previous tour overseas.
The fact of the matter is that the war in Iraq has stretched our military too thin, and we need to make sure we have the ability to keep our country safe from attack. That means getting our troops out of a civil war, and making sure we aren't squandering our resources where they shouldn't be.
There are various pieces of legislation we'll be seeing in the coming weeks. Democrats are committed to getting us out of this civil war. Right now, on C-SPAN 2, Senator Webb and Reid just finished answers questioning from the press about his plan.
Some Republicans have said they're ready for change. Seeing how they vote on Democratic legislation will make it clear whether or not they'll vote for that change.

Actions will speak louder than words. So far only some have decided to show true leadership by voting against giving Bush a blank check to continue the Iraq war with no exit date such has Hillary Clinton, Obama, Chris Dodd, John Kerry, Barbara Boxer. The big question is will the rest of the Democrat party follow their lead this time and stand firm to end this Iraq war? People voted Democratic because they expect change. I hope this time it will more than just talk, that they will stand firm to end this war no matter what Bush says. We could be spending the money on such better things such as national healthcare instead of this failed Bush Iraq policy of stay the course. It's time this Democratic congress get some back-bone by saying no more!

Going back to January, Rep. Maxine Waters said it well about the Iraq war. This time the rest of Democrats need to do the same.

Now is the time to take action folks by contacting everyone in office, Democrat, Republican, and Independent and tell them you want an end to the Iraq war. By turning up the heat and keeping the pressure on this could help congress get enough votes to over-ride any veto President Bush may do. Simply click on the links below to take action:

Nobody is ready for a change. Everyone likes to TALK about change, but conjuring the guts to do something besides non-binding resolutions and "suggestions" for time tables and all other kind of pandering to the angry voting public.
This congress has let Bush and his cronies set the tone for the debate by giving in to the idea that ending this war is not supporting our troops. Democrats, grow a SPINE and END THIS WAR NOW. I'm fed up with the rhetoric and capitulation to the Republicans. You want to get rid of the "soft on terror" stigma? Try getting tough with the Republicans for once. You can follow that up with a plan to deal with fundamentalist whack jobs--a plan that involves more than just killing more people.

This is it folks! If we do not stand up and be heard, or if our elected officials back down on this appropriation it means that our troops are guaranteed to be in Iraq until Mr. Bush leaves office! The time has definitely come for our members of Congress to assert the will of the people over the will our Megalomaniac-in-Chief. Therefore, all of the restrictions from the bill that Mr. Bush vetoed should become part of this appropriation. It is that important!

"Democrats are committed to getting us out of this civil war."
"Seeing how vote on Democratic legislation will make it clear whether or not they'll vote for that change."
You've got to be kidding. Please. Please stop. I'm dying of laughter here.
Tell us - for what will we trade away a vote on withdrawal time lines this time? Last time it was for the minimum age increase we promised Americans in the first 100 hours of our majority. What will it be this time? A huffy letter from the Republican leadership to Bush demanding that he cooperate with the Senate investigation into the unauthorized use of low fat mayonnaise at White House luncheons? Free i-Phones for the first 300 visitors in the Senate gallery next session? A promise to take Joe Lieberman into their caucus if we pick up another seat in 08?
Sad, isn't it, that the Democratic leadership stake their success on the willingness of Republican senators to come to their senses? Is this how the Republicans ran their agenda when they had the majority? Did they give a flying rat's ass about what any Democrat thought on any issue at all? How surprised should we be that since we won the last election and then caved to the Republicans and Bush on Iraq that the approval rating of the work of Congress (i.e., a Democratic Congress) has been nearly halved? In just six months. Incredible!
When the hell are Reid and Pelosi and the rest of those chumps going to learn that the right thing to do...morally AND politically...is to take each of these votes all the way to the mat, knowing that we'll lose them or get them vetoed, and then turn to the American people to say "We've responded to your demands, but we still can't win with the number of Democrats we have now. Give us more in 08, and a Democratic president. We'll win them next time around."
The answer is...never. Not from these chuckleheads. All we get is more triangulation, compromise and ultimately, abject, whimpering capitulation. Same old crap from useless elected Democrats worried about getting their perfect hairdos mussed in a fight.
They're worse than useless.

I agree with the democrates that it is time for our country to have a change and pull ourselves out of the mess of the Iraq war. Americans are put more at risk for violence since the start of this war. And our attention of preventing and stopping international terrorism has lead us into a war under false pretenses and meaningless as this one. More importantly the government has allowed extreme poverty to grow in America and in Iraq with thousands of refugees and people under extreme financial distress. The US is part of the UN’s Millennium Development Project, which has the goal of eliminating global poverty. However by examining the conducts of our government, no poverty is reduced. Rather, poverty has increased. According to the Borgen Project, whose goal is to fight global poverty, it only takes $19 billion dollars annually stop world hunger and poverty. However, more than $340 billion dollars has been put into the Iraq war at a rate of $2 billion dollars per week. Our government needs to realize that it is indirectly funding poverty, violence and hunger, the three things that it pledged and vowed to eliminate. It is time for a change.

Politicians tell Iraqis to arm themselves
BAGHDAD -- Prominent Shiite and Sunni politicians called on Iraqi civilians to take up arms to defend themselves after a weekend of violence that claimed more than 220 lives, including 60 who died Sunday in a surge of bombings and shootings around Baghdad. The calls reflect growing frustration with the inability of Iraqi security forces to prevent extremist attacks.

America1st -
I'll give you one (a reply) anyway. A-f**king-men!
Republicans and Dems alike have spent months now setting up the Iraqis themselves to be the fall guys for this atrocity. It's pathetic. Most Iraqis who could afford to do so left the country log ago, as soon as they could see how ineptly America was handling the post-Saddam "reconstruction." Those people represent a good percentage of the trained police, medical professionals, legal professionals, career government employees, etc. who could have contributed to rebuilding the country America destroyed.
And who could blame them for leaving, since now what we have left in Iraq is a National Rifle Authority member's dream come true. A hostile, enemy occupying force, no central government or organized security forces to protect individuals who have only their own guns and their own improvised weapons to oppose the enemy.
I wonder if Charlton Heston would see the irony in the situation? I wonder if he would be sympathetic with the "insurgents?"

Hey DemocratsKickingASS
How come I answered your poll several days ago and you have not responded back.
You guys make me laugh, and if the people in the states are gulible to fall for it, then they deserve to be taken to the cleaners. You say the Dems have a plan. I believe that plan was on this website a while back. Well I read it. And yes I am not a Dem. I lean much more towards the Reps than the Dem. Anyway, that plan was not a plan. It was a goal. The plans are the details on how you achieve the goal. so where are those details. It would be nice to see em listed on here. Wouldn't this be a good site to list em on? I would think so, because you know, there are alot of Reps that come on here, for a good joke. I love it. I laugh my ass off that you are trying to kick.

It is amazing how the recent Dems are eager to get out when the going gets a little hot. the ole peanut farmer tried a James Bond rescue and well, you remember what happened there. It was Algore that attacked Bush Senior in 1992 for not doing anything on Iraq. It was Algore that said that the intelligence of Iraqi WMD cannot be ignored. It was Algore that said Saddam had weapons and that he must be stopped, and it was Algore, after getting elected with that playboy slick willy Billy, did nothing about Iraq during his 8 years as VP. Gee Golly. Iraq was a festering mess in the 1990's because the Clinton/Gore team were too scared to do anything about it. I mean...cutting the military to the bare bone is a hard task to do day in day out. But come on now...you yourself (Algore) said that the "intelligence speaks for itself." And if any of you dems dare to not believe this, the youtube link is right here. Don't you even think of explaining this away you libs!http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9JE48XHKG64

PoliticalBS - congratulations! You've outlined a strategy to fulfill all of bin Laden's wildest wishes without him aving to llift another finger.
Rushbabies - If the mess in Iraq was "festering" in the early 90's, how would you characterize the Bush-created mess now? Gangrenous? Also, and this is just a very, very minor point. The difference between Clinton/Gore and Bush/Cheney with respect to Iraq, regardless of what the intel may have told them and how they may have commented on it, is that Bush invaded and Clinton did not. So what's your point, exactly, you Bush butt-licking neo-con loon?
Posted by BaronScarpia on July 10, 2007 at 11:34 AM
Hell, I will push the button, It is very apparent you are not even aware of what is going on in Pakistan. The next front will not be iran but pakistan. That place is going to explode and we are not even there. They are fighting amongst them selves in packistan, cause there is nothing else better to do. And if bin laden wants to fight lets fight. The US and Israeli dogs of war have not even been let out yet. Everyone is saying how bad it is in Iraq. What's happening here is not even a drop in the bucket what could be happening. Iraq is no where near festering dude. Come check it out. We are going to have to do it sooner or later anyway. Turning our back to Iraq is like commiting suicide.
I would rather, be a Bull Lickin Neo con loon, than a pussy whipped idiot, that wants to run away at the sign of trouble chickensht. I would go back into these places over here regardless of the Presidents party. You guys don't cause you ain't got the slightest idea what life is all about and you are too party brain washed. You cut and run from these guys there is only one thing going to happen, you'll get shot in the back. Maybe not here but back home. Remember, the plane carrying those troops home needs to land on the mexican and canadian borders. Cause they coming after us. Then you will say it is bush's fault for pulling out, hypocrit.
But I guess you lazy ass dems wouldn't know that. You are too busy tring to smoke you wacky tabacky, screw women in the whitehouse, and get drunk and kill women in car accidents. It

I do blame the Bush administration because we never should've gone into Iraq in the first place. My point is that Bush keeps saying the Iraqis need more time to be trained yet we continue to see the same results of Bush's failed Iraq policy, nothing has changed, nothing has improved. Of course Bush/Cheney are to blame for being dishonest about this war which is exactly why they should both be impeached.

Some far right idiots are still trying to bring up Monica and Bill Clinton. Let's get serious here. What happened with Bill was a long time ago. Bill lied about having sex and this current President Bush lied about facts to start a war with Iraq, which is worse? Let's get the facts straight, this Bush administration is responsible for costing the United States billions and billions of dollars while God only knows how many are dead now over this Iraq war which was based on lies. Why isn't this President and Vice President Impeached?

Come here and tell us that...libs talk and talk and talk, but do nothing in the end. I'm doing something, why don't you. BaronScarpia - take your own advice and join the ranks. According to Algore, Iraq should have been dealt with by Bush Senior. Iraq was posing a threat, and that people were in danger. Fast forward 14 years - Bush W. come and does something. Now Algore is in the national spotlight DENOUNCING the military action against Iraq. AGAINST the SAME intelligence he had in 1992. The point I was making is that the dems are a bunch of hypocrites and are not to be trusted. I'll be a right wing neo con, but I'll tell you this BaronScarpia, I have the country's best interests in mind. I make that decision everyday I'm here! I don't tuck tail and run like the lib base likes to do. We should pull out, though...WHEN THE JOB IS DONE!
Posted by RushBabies on July 10, 2007 at 09:07 PM
Do you know what will happen if we pulled out of Iraq today? Think for a moment...I know it's hard for dems to think, but just try. If we pull out now, the whole region will be destabalized, leaving a huge power vaccume where Saddam used to be and that will lead to one of two things. First: The government we installed is too weak to defend itself, so the Islamofacists come in and take over, a la the Taliban, and poof...we have another whacko Islamic regime in the Middle East, who quite possibly would be loyal to Iran. Or scenerio #2: The Iranians will come in and take the whole government by force and start installing a loyal puppet government to serve their needs. These situations will lead to only one thing: an Islamic, whacko government in Iraq who will sponsor terrorist training camps and terrorism and will surely start attacking the United States, Israel and the UK the first thing running. We will have all the Islamofreaks setting up camp in Iran, "Iraq", and Syria. That's thae last thing we need, because according to T.E. Lawrence - Lawrence of Arabia - once you give insurgants the time to set up camps and give them time to train for their mission - ie: blowing us up - then it is very hard to dislodge these people and disrupt their operations. Americans the world over and in America will no longer be safe because of this expanded terror training and export. Also, the other countries in the region will also be at risk of falling to the hands of these people. Saudi Arabia will have ACTIVE terrorist camps on their borders. Terrorists will start to flow across the Saudi border from Iraq and wage "holy" war against the government there. Aided from terrorfreaks on the inside, Saudi will turn into a blazing inferno of terrorist attacks. After Saudi falls, where then? Jordan? UAE, Yemen, Oman? These are weak mostly secular arab countries that will bear the wrath of an islamic fueled, Iranian backed terror threat from Iraq because they are not practicing their faith to allah and living like westerners. Those countries will fall and the price of oil will shoot up to about...oh...what...$200 a barrel. Then, Israel will be at risk from the newly emboldened and funded Syrian and Hamas governments in the north and the "Iraqi" terror threat in the east. Iran will fund all these people. And then the Iranians will set their sights on the Afghan region and Iran, free from the distraction that is Iraq, will be able to fully fund and support the Taliban in their quest of reclaiming their country from the US invaders. Terror will become the new product of the Middle East like never before seen by the western world. So, the small, reletively contained insurgency in Iraq will turn into an all out terror breeding and exporting operation if we pull out now. If we pull out today, that could be the picture of the world in maybe 5-7 years if our analysis is correct. If dems stop trying to pat themselves on the back, and grow a backbone to see this to the logical end, then that will be the world they'll leave for their children, because like T.E. Lawrence said, "fighting an insurgency is like eating soup with a knife." It's hard, but someone has to do it. If we pull out today, and that scenerio unfolds like the majority of middle eastern scholors said it would, then guess what? Gulf War III. We will have to go in all over again to stop the terror export program and we will go for the beast next time. Iran. So, keep telling yourselves that we need to pull out now...you'll see what happens.

You are asking them to think? That's a laugh. Bush is a Republican. That there is enough in itself, to make them go to any extreme to not back this. I think you are expecting them to do just a little too much to think. You are being very selfish with your brain. Perhaps you should be taxed on your brain, and give it to the Dems. But they would probably want to tax me for mine as well. One thing is for sure with the Dems, BS and taxes.
Posted by Democratorpop on July 11, 2007 at 06:09 AM
Hey I just can't help it Democratskickingass...Think about this one a minute unless I am making the same mistake, expecting you to think. You say at the very top, "Not giving Bush a blank check for the Iraq War." Well, I don't think he is saying that but if you want me to agree I will. I would much rather give him an blank check for fighting in Iraq, than giving congress a blank check for the families of more victims like the New York WTC. Because if we pull out of Iraq and come home, they are following us. You may not see it that way, but if the Dems get their way, you will see it with your own eyes.
All you have to do is look for targets of opportunity. They are everywhere. You get some of them that have a devious mind, then it will happen. You call it a civil war, call it what you want. I call it war. The ole saying "All is fair in love and war." They take it word for word, literally. Hide in your little turtle shell. Eventually a car will run over your ass and splatter your guts all over the place.

One other thing, I own 24 firearms. I only owned about 7 until I saw the Columbine School movie that fat California boy made. I also was NOT a member of the NRA. When he claimed on that documentary, that when the KKK was denounced and later came back known as the NRA, then the NRA got a contribution for $1000 and they got another life long member. As Charlton Heston said, "They can have my guns when they pry my cold dead fingers from it." If that amendment is taken away, then why not freedom of speech, freedom of religion, etc. Talk about Nazis, the Dems are closer to the Nazi powers than the Reps will ever be. Baron Scarpia,
Call up Blackwater. I will get the guys to take you on a ride that you will remember forever. We got some choppers here that are a blast. BW supplies weapons, but you can supply your own. I prefer my own. 6.5 mm, got a TS 12 x 24, BW pays more than the corp or any of the other services. Not as many regs either. We do this because we want to be here, and like I said, the pay is good. I will say it is hot here though. Alot hotter than Arizona.
So no hard feelings though. I just think that you guys are following a bunch of college nerds that truly don't know what the real world is all about. To each his own I guess. Just remember, the decission I made to come over here is mine. It effects no one but me, if I get capped. Whaty you guys do, well, you are really effecting many, maybe good and maybe real bad. You stop this war, you put me on the unemployment line. I guess I will have to look for something else. Anyway, best of luck to ya. Getting my head down soon. Will be working tonight.

I love how the dems downplay everything they have done, but cause an uproar when the Republicans do something. So, Algore's Bush Senior Bashing session in 1992 for not taking care of Iraq when given the chance was a very very minor point? Ah...and the difference between Slick Willy/Algore and Bush/Cheney is that Bush/Cheney did something. Well, you answered your own question. Bush has a backbone and wants to win. The dems are invested in defeat, and the dems have shown us that time and time again. The question now is not "How we got here" but "How do we finish this the right way?" Looking on the past and pointing fingers at the other camp will not win this war and will not help the situation in the least. But, like I said, dems own defeat in Iraq. Dems are a bunch of Cindy "gutless" Sheehans.

Democratorpop - BS and taxes..I like that. sums up the dems in a neat little package. Something else to consider. When you vote for Hilldawg in the next election (because I know you will) remember this. Hillary, along with Bill hated the military so much, they both forbade the military officers from wearing their uniforms inside the White House at all times. She claimed they looked too "militaristic" and didn't want to be around them. Talk about Republicans hating the military. Every time I see Hillary cheesing with the Soldiers and Marines, I just want to puke my guts out because I know that deep down inside she loathes the military and hates every single one of us. So, what will she make us wear after the election? Pink spandex?
