Kicking Ass: The Democratic Party's Blog

Live-Blogging the Democratic Debate

Posted by Michael Link on July 23, 2007 at 11:39 AM

We're very excited to announce that with today's Democratic debate, co-sponsored by YouTube and CNN, we'll be liveblogging the debate as it happens tonight at 7pm ET.

But in the spirit of bottom-up, user-generated content that this debate is all about (given that the questions will be submitted by regular folks via YouTube), we wanted to make sure that you also could join us in live-blogging the debate. So all day when you're blogging about the debate over at PartyBuilder, be sure to tag your diary as: July 23rd Debate

Using that tag will make sure that when people go to our debate website, they'll see your entries, as well. Go there and see for yourself. Once there, you'll want to click on where it says "Your Blogs." That'll link to all of your posts that are tagged correctly.

We're very excited about this new way of bringing people into the debates: having regular folks join the conversation with the candidates by submitting their video questions. And so, we want to make sure we allow those of you who don't get to have your question asked the ability to make your voice heard.

Ask Hillery and Edwards. When the Republicans were in the majority they threatened the Democrats to take some kind of Legal action if they filibustered? What was that Legal action? And why can't the Democrats do the same thing now?

This is one of the best debates, I have seen, because it has allowed input from the American people and not from political pundits and from the media alone.

The questions are varied and are valid, and some candidates answer better than others, but this debate is allowing for the public to see the varied answers on the same question.

Nice debate, but is it me, or did Hillary, Obama, Edwards, and Biden get most of the question time. I tended to cringe when Mike Gravel talked, but he only did that 4-5 times the entire night. Have we (CNN) already chosen the top 3 candidates? Question time didn't seem even close to equal.

I've seen several presidential debates and this was far and away the most encouraging. No one knows how Anderson Cooper decided to whom to address the questions, but the questions--on their own--were serious and effect (affect?) us all. I'm sure CNN and YouTube decided the questions...but at last someone asked some of the ones I would have asked.

I am pleased at the depth of response the candidates (often) answered with. Astonished, even, at the passion that escaped a few times. This is a fantastic approach to a debate and I am hoping for a chance for the Republicans to engage in this manner.

I have to call the debate a draw for the top tier and with Richardson and Biden tying (imo) on the 2nd tier.

Hillary keeps surprising me.
Eddie did better this time
Biden always candid. I like that.
Kucinich's smile looked so fake (sorry jmo)
Richardson clearly could hit the ground running

I like them all compared to their PUG counterparts it's like SUNSHINE versus OLD MOLD.

Great format this time. I enjoyed it.

Howard looked pleased too when they panned over to him.

Really excited about this debate. And now I think I finally know who I'll be supporting for President.

My friends and I are concerned about something Mr. Obama said during the debate. It's the phrase "the war on terror." This is a republican phrase that is meaningless and especially undefinable. I don't think it serves Mr. Obama's purposes to use it and I think that all the candidates should abandon or define it. It gives the public the idea that we are at endless war and it's just an excuse to abuse the law. What is the war on terror?

Freeforall had a good comment, it was a good debate, some of the questions were bad, some of the questions were really good. I wish I had a webcam so I could have sent one.

I thought the debate was not good. It's the
same old, same old. Nothing new, no real plans,
just saying what they thought people wanted to hear. I didn't watch it all the way through, thought it was too boring.
