Rough Seas Ahead For Thompson
Posted by Kombiz Lavasany on July 27, 2007 at 03:49 PM
The Fred Thompson campaign has seen some tough times lately, confronted with his record as a lobbyist and the subsequent cover-up. That was followed by staff problems at the very top of the campaign.
But rather than kick a man when he's down, we decided to throw him a life vest. The Democratic Party interns paid a visit to his office:

Dear Fred,
With recent reports that your presidential campaign has already been knocked around by some pretty rough seas, we thought you could use a life jacket to help you get your sea legs so you won't have to delay your "official" announcement any longer.
While the rest of your Party’s candidates have been struggling for months to swim upstream against strong anti-Republican currents, we understand that this is your first trip up the river. From senior staffers jumping ship after just a few weeks on the job, to campaign cash trickling in more slowly than expected, we know this must be tougher than you envisioned. Of course, with your lobbying record and previous positions on a variety of issues just now beginning to surface, the forecast calls for even rougher seas ahead.
It’s going to be a long cruise, so good luck keeping your head above water!
Sincerely,
Your Friends at the DNC

I think it is bad to show favoritism, so I hope the DNC plans to extend a life preserver to the ten other republican candidates. I mean, I think McCain (not abel), Romney, and Giuliani could use one of those life preserver vests right now. Fair is fair!!
Please don't tell me that his present wife isn't another one of those women who used to work in his campaign...and broke up Thompson's first marriage? That wouldn't make her a "trophy wife" just another of those Giuliani-style "another woman" wives.
In an era where partisanship is a dividing factor, you expect smug-one-uppance like this to translate to votes come 2008? Fred Thompson isn't much of a candidate, given, but this is why people are going to call you elitist. Beat him where it really hurts - out on the campaign trail, with real facts, with everything that's not a tactless stab. An intern with a life jacket is just like some imbecilic prank war. I'm glad to see that the party of JFK and FDR can go for the fraternity vote. Just sign me up for the panty raid on the Christian Coalition, or when we TP Grover Norquist's house.
Nebraska voter,
As a fellow Nebraskan myself, I hail from the 2nd congressional district, I say lighten up! I thought the video was funny as hell and I agree david we should be sending life preservers to more of the Republican candidates they are going to need it.
I'm also a district two voter. I voted for Moul, Nelson and even (gasp) Hahn. I just think this is pretty juvenile. It's just a really smug move. Maybe it's just in the way he presents it. It just seems like a sort of "rub it in their face, kick 'em while they're down" thing. The same effect could have been reached with little inflatable arm band things. They're not as cumbersome as life jackets. And while funny as hell, as you said, this is also our party doing the sort of things that I wouldn't have done in college (which, admittedly, was 2 months ago.)
That said, I really am asking that someone let me know when we TP Grover Norquist's house.

Maybe the "trophy wife" designation should be changed to the "booby prize".
Freddy cheeseball! Freddy is a second rate actor an corporate bag man.
Okay. I just registered for this site JUST so I could object to this post. It is the DUMBEST trick I have ever seen. And I'm a Liberal Democrat. Whoever did this is a complete idiot and should be fired. The Party does NOT NEED THIS. And I'm sure Fred Thompson could dispense with it too.
The guy's lucky I wasn't one of those women standing there!
Do you think this hipster smugness scored any points whatsoever? The joke was lame, the delivery was lame, the way the kid fled from the scene and hid behind the cubicle walls rather than actually approaching anyone was lame.. lame, lame, lame. You guys just came across as a bunch of juvenile, unsupervised kids. Whoever's idea this was needs to go to the woodshed for it. The only thing I took from this video was how the dems will do just about anything to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. Let's hope the exit wound in the sole of your foot won't begin to fester.
Registered to crosspost what I said when I saw this on Crooks and Liars:
Oh, Kayyyyripes!!

Leave the jokes to men like Jon Stewart. If you must have “stunts” on camera, leave them to bold men like Michael Moore. This serves no one.
Here’s what independent guys like me, and what I believe liberals both inside and outside the party want to see from you: start being an actual opposition party! Fight hard and professionally both in legislating and in your campaigns (don’t do immature b.s., the only thing the MSM has gotten right about you guys since the 2006 elections is that the next one is yours to lose, moves like this… yeah). Stop “triangulating” or whatever you’re calling repug-lite this week.
Leave the snark and the funny to bloggers and Comedy Central, you guys don’t get it.
A friend.
Seriously, what the hell are you thinking when you can't even stand up to a President with a sub 30% approval rating, but you can find time to do garbage like this to someone who hasn't even officially declared (and doesn't stand a prayer).
Bluesman is right. I saw this over at C&L and registered here just to comment. That was embarrasing. For the Democratic Party, that is. With all of the corruption, lies and hypocrisy that conservative Repubs are wallowing in these days, please stick with the meat. Not fluff like this.
If things keep going the way they have been, the GOP ought to just sit out next year's elections because it is going to be ugly. We will be sweeping everything.
Could someone tell me the point of this stunt? Truly, it seems pretty stupid and cruel. Do you think that any progress was made by this silly thing?
