Sen. Ted Stevens (R-AK) Fears Corruption Investigation

Sen. Ted Stevens, the 83-year-old Republican senator from Alaska who has served longer than any other incumbent, is now under investigation by the Justice Department for corruption.
At the heart of the investigation is a renovation project in 2000 that more than doubled the size of Stevens' home in the resort town of Girdwood. The remodeling work was supervised by Bill Allen, a contractor who pled guilty to bribing Alaska state legislators.
Federal investigators are now asking who paid for the home improvements--and what Allen might have received in return for the work.
Allen is also founder of VECO Corp., an Alaska-based oil field services and engineering company that has reaped tens of millions of dollars in federal contracts. He is now cooperating with the FBI.
"The worst thing about this investigation is that it does change your life in terms of employment potential," Stevens said in an interview with The Associated Press. "It doesn't matter what anyone says, it does shake you up. If this is still hanging around a year from November, it could cause me some trouble."
Last week, Alaska Democratic Party Chair Jake Metcalfe demanded some answers:
"Sen. Stevens continues to refuse to answer questions about his actions," Metcalfe said. "He owes Alaskans more than the excuse that his lawyers have told him not to comment."

kyle's testimony is the best yet, a president who will use a long weekend to make "recess appointments" didn't think this would be a good idea?? it is exactly why it was placed in the patriot act ambiguosly in the first place. the poor mislead americans who actually thought the PA was to combat terrorism at home when it was really set up to by pass 75% of our constitutional rights/freedoms.
I knew he was corrupt!!!!!
you guys make me wonder if you are still in bed dreaming or what. You want to string up an 83 year old man for corruption. have the trial and if he is found guilty ok. You raise all sorts of hell on that, but The glorious SENATER EDWARD KENNEDY, killed a woman by crashing his car DUI, and he never spent a day in jail.
You are right, it sounds totally fair to me. Hell hang the ole coot.
You guys are so much what you called clean, squeaky clean. You know, the whitewater investigation in Arkansas was stopped too, because some people lost their lives in that. But that was swept away. Lack of evidence what ever. People payed a dear price with their lives and with jail time, while a past president of ours (who was not only extremely corrupt, but couldn't keep the stallion in the barn), got away with that, but I guess he still became the Second President to be Impeached, oh, the second Democrat at that.................LOOK, the score Dems 2.......Reps 0. You ARE better at something than we are.
Not exactly 0 for Repugs as the House vote was for Impeachment of Nixon, but Nixon quit, to avoid getting shoved out.
For all that Reagan did against the 70% General Population of the country, Reagan should have been impeached, but he slimed his way out of impeachment by forgetting he knew anything, and somehow got away with it.
Now, Nancy Pelosi, a DLC slime Democrat, is covering for the Bush administration. It is time to pull her out of there, as she will always find ways to vote in favor of the 70% General Population when the vote will either be turned down in the Senate, or she knows it will be vetoed by the President. She has been very careful to NOT press forward for Impeachment or ending the Iraq war or the supposed war on terror, in any real way. It is time for Nancy Pelosi to go as well.
I am hoping Cindy Sheehan runs against Pelosi, so we can get the DLC out of the House. The DLC is the problem with Bush getting away with whatever the right-wing wants to do, as Pelosi IS Bush's cooperator, not the 70% Majority Common Population's cooperator, as she is suppose to be.
BTW, Diseased Reagan was not so badly diseased that he couldn't remember to pick up his $6 Million gift from the Japanese government for his lobbying efforts in Japan. Reagan just couldn't remember his involvement in the Iran Contra scandal, against the will of the American people, because if he had, he would have been impeached.
The right-wing plays the amount of that gift down, to make it smaller, but at the time it was $6 Million, which I really do not think Reagan should have been allowed to take, but he did. That was great pay for an actor that performed his presidential act well for the Right-Wing Revolution against the General Population of the United States.
And, furthermore, Nixon's Vice President, Spiro T. Agnew got booted out also. He was forced out account he was involved in a corruption scandal as is common these days with the Republican Party. Let's not forget Halderman, Erlichman, Mitchell and Dean who were all the President's men and guess where they went, PRISON. GOOD REPUBLICANS ALL, the cream of the Republican Party, but they were pikers compared to the "culture of corruption" in the Republican Party today.
