Alberto Gonzales Could "Fast Track" Death Penalty Cases

Alberto Gonzales could soon have the authority to "fast track" death penalty cases. From the Los Angeles Times:

The Justice Department is putting the final touches on regulations that could give Atty. Gen. Alberto R. Gonzales important new sway over death penalty cases in California and other states, including the power to shorten the time that death row inmates have to appeal convictions to federal courts.

...Under the rules now being prepared, if a state requested it and Gonzales agreed, prosecutors could use "fast track" procedures that could shave years off the time that a death row inmate has to appeal to the federal courts after conviction in a state court.

Remember this footage of Alberto Gonzales' testimony before Congress? Should this guy really be making decisions about speeding up executions?

Why isn't the Attorney General showing the same "fast track" concerns in complying with the subpoenas that the Senate committees have request of him?

Do those that are convicted of treason get an automatic death sentence? Perhaps that's why the Bush administration officials are "dragging their feet" on all matters pertaining to their own self-proclaimed "state secrets."

Deja Vu...Alberto is exactly the same clown and character that we all loved in "The Green Mile". Remember the little piss ant that yelled at the top of his lungs as he escorted a inmate into the prison "Dead Man walking"... "Dead Man walking the Mile" and then his goal was to "Be upfront in an execution"

That' AG. A little piss ant, full of himself and fully protected by his buddy.

Bet he can't wait to say "Dead Man running..Dead Man running the Green Mile"

What good is congress if they can't keep checks and balance in our government. The whole idea of the democratic victory in 06 was to make sure there were no abuse of power by the bush administration, but to our dismay the democratic congress are capitulating to this administration on every major issues. We are all waiting for the next Iraq war funding bill to see what the dems will do about a withdrawal date.

There is a bill writtten and waiting to de-authorize the whole Iraqi operation.

If our leaderhip doesn't have the nerve to put it up to a vote, then its their funeral come the new Congress in 2009.

There will be less Republicans and DLC Democrats. The netroots will demand a new Speaker and Senate Majority Leader who isn't so timid...and who respects the Constitution and Bill of Rights.

The Democratic majority in Congress has quite clearly demonstrated in hearing after hearing that Gonzo is unfit for duty; that he is driving the Justice Department into a ditch and has no respect for the constitution or the rule of law.

They are also clearly demonstrating that restoring integrity to the Justice Department and protecting the constitution is just not worth the effort of doing whatever it takes to remove him from office.

Run Cindy run!
