New Ethics Rules Have Lobbyists Scrambling
Posted by Stephanie Taylor on August 7, 2007 at 10:55 AM
Last week, the House and Senate both passed tough new ethics rules to end the culture of corruption in Washington. The Honest Leadership and Open Government Act bars lawmakers and aides from accepting any gifts, meals or trips from lobbyists--and imposes penalties up to $200,000 and five years in prison on any lobbyist who provides such freebies.
Today the New York Times reported that the new rules are already causing anxiety for Washington lobbyists:
The new law has quickly sent a ripple of fear through K Street. It comes amid signs that federal prosecutors are taking a newly aggressive approach to corruption cases--including treating campaign contributions as potential bribes.
Bush has not said whether or not he will sign the bill, although Senator Ted Stevens (R-AK), under investigation for corruption, has already threatened to try to block it.

Some people may think he ACTS like one but that don't make him one. Look at the many actors that have played Washington and Lincoln and other founding Fathers but that didn't make them the same. Your heart has to be of the nature of losing yourself and giving yourslf to the people for the people and of the peoples, best interest.
The same with Jesus Christ. You have to deny yourself and take up your cross and follow Jesus.
That is why Bill Clinton and Hillary are so successful in the WhiteHouse. She as President and he as an advisor. They already know how to deny themselves and take up the cause(cross) of the people. May God Bless them to win.
Sorry the above was in answer to Thompson claiming to be like the Founding Fathers*****
I hope and pray they get tougher Ethics Rules before our country becomes like Rome. Destroyed by lazyness and selfishness towards doing the right thing.
WHERE OH WHERE HAVE ALL THE GOOD RULERS GONE. lONG TIME PASSING.

This legislation is fatally flawed and only has the appearance of reform. Big bucks rule both parties and it's time to sweep House, (and Senate) of lifetime politicians who care more about scoring political points than they do about working towards solutions to the problems confronting the country.
