Number of Uninsured Rose Last Year

Posted by Stephanie Taylor on August 28, 2007 at 05:57 PM

Troubling statistics on the uninsured from the Los Angeles Times:

The number of Americans without health insurance rose last year from 44.8 million, or 15.3% of the population, to 47 million, or 15.8%, the Census Bureau reported today.

...Of particular concern, the number of uninsured children rose for the second year in a row, after a long period in which it had been steadily declining, thanks to the expansion of government health coverage. More than 600,000 children joined the ranks of the uninsured in 2006, a change that the Census Bureau called statistically significant.

In both the House and the Senate, Democrats have passed legislation that would provide health coverage to 3 to 5 million more children over the next five years. The Bush administration has threatened to veto both bills.

Don't worry this is merely a viable long term strategy to fix Social Security. We are now globally ranked 42nd in in longevity.

Legalize, tax and regulate marijuana - for everyone over 21 - and you could easily fund Universal Healthcare.

Worst than the veto - which will be overridden - is the insidious rule changes that the Chimp came up with to make it hard to qualify. Governors of NY and NJ have condemned Chimp's dirty tactics. The GOP will pay a price for this treachery in 2008.

Legalizing marijuana and taxing this $35 Billion dollar a year untaxed commodity would easily pay for Universal Healthcare coverage for every American.
