Bush Plans to "Make a Lot of Money" After Leaving Office

Posted by Stephanie Taylor on September 4, 2007 at 09:54 AM

This weekend, the New York Times published a revealing anecdote from an upcoming book by Texas writer Robert Draper, in which Bush muses aloud about his time after he leaves office.

First, Mr. Bush said, "I’ll give some speeches, just to replenish the ol’ coffers." With assets that have been estimated as high as nearly $21 million, Mr. Bush added, "I don’t know what my dad gets — it’s more than 50-75" thousand dollars a speech, and "Clinton’s making a lot of money."

Nice to see what his priorities are.

Who would pay any money to listen to him? Not the people in Paraguay where he is going to wind up, if he's lucky. And not his fellow prisoners if he's brought to trial for treason against the American People.

I wonder if he will really make what he thinks he will make.

No one wants to hear him now. Who is going to want to hear him then.

The only public speaking I want to hear Bush doing is at his trial.

I saw in a recent poll that 32% of the people think Bush is doing a good job--go figure. These people would pay to see him, and there would be plenty of those who will be just plain curious. Even bad presidents have little problem making lots of money, not that he doesn't already have enough. Impeachment is the only hope for justice, but he'd still make lots of money.

In the meantime, we have to figure out who can win this upcoming election, and to think that because Bush has done such a bad job that getting a Democrat elected will be a cinch is dangerously naive and will end up costing the Democrats the election--again. Bush making lots of cash after he leaves office shouldn't be so hard to imagine, nor should the election of another dangerously reckless Republican. We shouldn't just go for the most likable or who appears to be the anointed one. We really need to consider all the candidate carefully and make our choice based on 2 necessary qualifications: 1) Who can beat the Republicans, i.e., who can rally Democrats and win over enough Independents and disenchanted Republicans to beat the Republican candidate, and 2) Who would make a good president. We can't afford to blow this one.

Remember, people didn't think Bush was doing a good job after his first term, but they still wouldn't elect a democrat.

Never, ever underestimate the capacity of evil men with money to defame the good name of an upstanding member of society.
We have a term for it now, "Swiftboating."

Don't be naive and think it won't happen again.

Not surprising, of course. I remember that when the NASDAQ bubble burst Bush was asked if he was affected by the market crash. His answer, delivered with typical brusque smugness, was "I'm liquid." Interested response, that, from someone who by then supposedly had his assets placed in a blind trust. And how revealing of the Bush character (or lack thereof) that he didn't even pay lip service to the beating that millions of his countrymen were taking because they were not "liquid" like he.

Maybe I'm being harsh. Maybe he was just drunk and he was being honest for once in his life. Or maybe he was high from snorting coke and pretzels and thought "I'm powder" would sound funny.

But HEY! AT LAST!!! We find ONE THING that Clinton has done that Republicans don't take issue with. Surprise surprise! It's making money.

Gasp and swoon, knock me over with a Benjamin.

Thank you, "independent"texan for precisely making my last point for me.

Bravo!

Poor George Bush, he doesn't realize that on January 21, 2009 all those yes people can disappear, no longer bound by his orders. What a shock it will be to him to hear what the country really things of him. Possibly the only person that would continue to track what W says is David Letterman, who would otherwise find himself without a regular feature. Despite all the Clinton bashing, people still are interested in what he has to say and he can still draw a big crowd.

Dear President Bush,

I’d like to write this letter in a much larger font, to make it easy for you to read. I did write you a letter 6 years ago telling you that I could help you be a better speaker, as I teach Effective Speaking here in Canada.

You should have taken my advice, as you are the MOST PATHETIC SPEECH GIVER I have ever heard. You are an embarrassment to our country. The highlight of my life is listening to you on David Letterman, “Great Moments in Presidential…” I hope you do watch it and feel the embarrassment that you deserve to feel. I have such anger and frustration towards you. How amazing that you cannot hardly say a word off the cuff without reading from your notes.

You lied to get us into Iraq

I have a real sense that you are responsible for the bombing of the World Trade Center.

I hope you will be impeached (even if it isn’t actually carried out to it’s finality, the country will hear all the things you have done which are deserving of your being thrown out of office.

You have sent our young soldiers over there and I know you don’t give a crap about them or you would end the war today.

You have chosen terrible men for the supreme court.

Your choice of Harriet Meyers was an abomination

I listen every day to Air America. You should, to hear what brilliant people, and erudite callers, say about you.

We cry out at the pain we feel to have you as our president.

I have such anger towards your wife who called Katrina “Karina.” What an abomination.

I hate the way you talk. Stupid southern accent when I know you talk differently in private. Don’t you know that ‘to’

Is (to) not ‘te.’

I could go on and on, BUT

The real reason I am writing this is to tell you of my complete DISGUST over the words you spoke in your interview

Re what you are going to do after you are (thank god) no longer president.

That you are only thinking about the money you are going to make. PATHETIC, PATHETIC, DISGUSTING

More than your father. INFERIORITY COMPLEX????

If anyone contributes one cent to your library I will cry. You are not deserving of anything that makes people remember you, other than, you are, as so many say, the WORST president this beautiful country has ever had.

I hope whoever is reading this will pass this on to this sad excuse for a human being. Let him read it and know how an intelligent, well educated, thinking, politically thoughtful, American citizen feels.

Hatred is a terrible word to use. I feel terrible that I have to use it when talking about my President.

Listen to Thom Hartman, Randy Rhodes, and John Elliot on Air America. Only by listening to them can I hope that things will be done to stop your boss from doing more evil deeds, like bombing Iran.

You can relieve yourself of the pain you must feel knowing what a loser you are by simply resigning. Do the right thing Mr. President. Take the man who is in fact even worse than you, with you. Cheney. So glad his daughter is gay. Justice prevails!!!!!!

I vote in Santa Monica, CA and, thanks to you, I will vote against every Republican who stands for election.

Ps. Just watching Jack Cafferty on CNN and smiling at what he always comments on about you. I think he has as much disgust as I have.

For all it’s worth, I am a Stanford University grad. No fool. And no idiot.

There is nothing wrong with making money after being President. What do we expect him to do?

Why isn't this on your website? So it's ok for these two moronic liars to earn money by taking it from the "working class" that they represent but not OK for President Bush to make money on speaking engagements?

The answer is that on most, if not all issues you are only OK with it if it suits your purpose at the time. Nobody on here is addressing the fact that the biggest liar to ever hold the office of President is doing the same thing you are accusing President Bush of doing and referring to him as not having his "priorities" in order. Don't you ever get sick of hearing yourselves? Do you have migraines at the end of day after constantly having to make excuses for why it's ok for these liberal pukes to do something but not ok for everybody else? How can you look at those two knowing that everything they say is most likely another lie. If the man will lie about getting a blow job, he'll lie about everything! Wake up you idiots!

Bush will probably be speaking at his trial before they banish him from this country and spending the rest of his life in a prison cell in the Hauge. Exile and prison time is exactly what this lowlife deserves.
