Bush's spymaster admits he misled Congress:
In a new embarrassment for the Bush administration top spymaster, Director of National Intelligence Mike McConnell is withdrawing an assertion he made to Congress this week that a recently passed electronic-surveillance law helped U.S. authorities foil a major terror plot in Germany.
On Monday, McConnell told senators that the controversial law, called the "Protect America Act," helped to "facilitate" the arrest of three men suspected of planning massive car bombings against American targets in Germany. The problem is that the law didn't really foil the German plot.
The U.S. military initially provided information that helped the Germans uncover the plot. But that exchange of information took place months before the new "Protect America" law was passed.
The "Protect America Act" is a temporary law that expires in six months. It is expected to be the subject of intense debate in the months ahead.

What will the dems do? What have they done. This president is the worst in my lifetime but the democrat's; refuse, can't, won't do anything about it. You or anybody else can keep blogging about this president, the vice president, the republicans' in general, what good has it done? This group of democrat's are wimps, period, end of story. More then half the country wanted change in '06. What good did it do? We replaced Rumsfeld with Gen. Petraeus, forget Gates it's Petraeuses war now. What are the dems going to do now? NOTHING, what can they do. They played chicken in June hoping for something in September. There cooked, you know it and I know it. I personally hope the dems lose big in '08. For them to accomplish anything they would need sixty plus in the senate, maintain majority in the house and get a dem president. Somehow I think they would still accomplish nothing. You know why? POLLS, THERE TO WORRIED ABOUT POLLS AND GETTING RE-ELECTED. There more worried about there image then working for the people. Even though this president and his neo-cronies lie to us day in and day out, they do have b-lls. Something I'm not sure the dems have. Maybe thats why there pushing Hillary--who knows. What I do know is we are in deep sh-t! Thanx dems keep up the good work.
What are our Democratic leaders thinking? Why would you select Harry Reid to do the rebuttal to Bushs' address this evening. WHAT IS IT THAT YOU ALL DO NOT UNDERSTAND? It is simple marketing 101. With all due respect to Sen. Reid, he comes across as weak and effeminate. Sorry, but that's the perception by many. We need a strong tough type to do the bebuttals to Bush. Someone like Murtha, Webb, or Biden. Anyone but Reid. WHEN will you all understand we must out market the Republicans. Sorry but Reid is just not a good salesman. BAD BAD CHOICE!!! I don't know if I can keep supporting a party that does not understand something this simple!

Bill, just to let you know...the Democratic response will be given by Sen. Jack Reed (D-RI), former Army Ranger and member of the Armed Services Committee.
