Dean Sobre el Foro de Univision

El Presidente del Comité Nacional Demócrata Howard Dean emitió la siguiente declaración sobre los candidatos presidenciales y su participación en el foro presidencial auspiciado por Univisión. Un foro similar con los candidatos Republicanos no se llevará a cabo por que los candidatos Republicanos se negaron a participar, a pesar de que esta misma semana el Wall Street Journal reportó que el Partido Republicano está enfrentando una pérdida de interes entre tres grupos críticos: "votantes jovenes, hispanos, e independientes." "Todo candidato Demócrata, con su participación en el foro esta noche, está dejando claro que el Partido Demócrata es el partido que le da la bienvenida a los hispanos y que comparte sus valores. Los candidatos Republicanos, por haberse negado a dirigirse a la comunidad hispana no solo en este foro sino también en varias reuniones de grupos hispanos en los últimos meses, están enviando un mensaje fuerte. Tristemente, es algo consistente con la estrategia del Partido Republicano de usar a los inmigrantes hispanos como chivos expiatorios por ganancia política.
"Esta noche nuestros candidatos Demócratas comunicaron planes claros para tratar con los retos que enfrentan las familias alrededor de Estados Unidos. El grupo de candidatos Demócratas también demostró el gran contraste que existe entre ellos y la retórica divisiva y llena de odio de los candidatos presidenciales del Partido Republicano y su partido que se está achicando. Mientras los candidatos presidenciales del Partido Republicano parecen salidos de la decada de los 1950s y hablan como si pertenecieran a la decada de los 1850s, el grupo de candidatos presidenciales Demócratas no es solo el más fuerte, sino también el más diverso que cualquier partido haya tenido.
"Esta noche la decisión para el 2008 quedó clara: Los Demócratas que ofrecen verdadero liderazgo basado en los valores de la libertad, la justicia, y la voluntad de enfrentar el futuro con fuerza y optimismo, o los Republicanos que ofrecen más del mismo liderazgo fracasado de la Administración Bush."
Democratic National Committee Chairman Howard Dean issued the following statement on the Democratic presidential candidates and their participation in the Univision Democratic Presidential Candidates' Forum. A similar Republican forum will not take place given that most Republican candidates refused to participate, even though just this week the Wall Street Journal reported that the Republican Party is facing "a broader erosion of...appeal" particularly among three crucial groups: "younger voters, Hispanics and independents." "Every Democratic candidate, through their participation at tonight's forum, made it clear that the Democratic Party is the party that welcomes Hispanics and that shares their values. The refusal of Republican candidates to address the Hispanic community not just at this forum but in national Hispanic gatherings in recent months, speaks volumes. Sadly it is consistent with the Republican Party's strategy to scapegoat Hispanic immigrants for political gain.
"Tonight our Democratic field of candidates articulated clear plans for addressing the challenges facing families all across America. The Democratic field of candidates also showed a stark contrast with the divisiveness and hate-filled rhetoric coming from the Republican Presidential candidates and from their shrinking Party. While the Republican presidential candidates look like something out of the 1950s and talk like they belong in the 1850s, the Democratic field of presidential candidates is not just the strongest, but most diverse field either party has ever had.
"Tonight the choice for 2008 was clear: Democrats who offer real leadership based on our core values of freedom, fairness and facing the future with strength and optimism, or Republicans who offer more of the same failed leadership we've had from the Bush Administration."
