DNC Calls On Congress to Pass DC Voting Rights: No Time to Filibuster
Washington, DC- Democratic National Committee Chairman Howard Dean and DNC Voting Rights Institute Chair Donna Brazile issued the following joint statement urging passage of legislation granting DC full voting rights in the House of Representatives:
"This week the Senate has an opportunity to remedy a long standing voting rights injustice by passing legislation to give the District of Columbia a full vote in the House of Representatives. District of Columbia residents are the only Americans who pay taxes and serve proudly in our nation's armed forces but are not allowed full voting representation in Congress. It is time for District residents to have equal rights under the law and the same kind of democracy our brave soldiers are fighting for. We call on Congress and President Bush to swiftly pass and sign this legislation into law."
