Lobbyist Fred Charges Up His Golf Cart

Lobbyist Fred Thompson is apparently finally about to announce that he's going to really run, walk, or take a golf cart for the Republican presidential nomination. Today the "campaign" fired another top staffer who had been recruited personally by Fred Thompson less than a month ago.

There are more major resignations of founding Fredheads now looming over the way the "new media strategy" was supplanted by a "corporate" and "predictable" approach. They are also protesting the way so many people have been treated by the candidate and spouse.

As one insider said of Mills' departure, "he was recruited and hired by the candidate and his wife and they did not have the guts to let him go themselves. They have wrecked his life and it's totally wrong."

In preparation to run, he's skipping tonight's Republican debate and appearing on the Jay Leno show, something he'd ironically criticized John McCain for doing in the past. Instead Lobbyist Fred Thompson will be running an ad tonight, and ad that looks eerily like an ad he ran in 2004 that wouldn't be so popular today.

Where was his rented red pickup truck?

So he shows up late, rides around looking for a golf course, and then doesn't stop to talk to the lady who carves the butter cow? I don't think he's connecting too well with the people of Iowa.

Maybe Jay Leno will give Thompson one of his motorcycles on the show Thursday? I'd like to see Fred dressed up in leather on a Harley chasing his wife down the highway in her Mercedez.

But it looks more like Thompson could use one of those Hover-Around scooters these days. To think those high school kids questioned whethr McCain was too old to be president? Hell, McCain survived a prisoner of war camp and a recent stroll through a market in sweltering Baghdad.

And what's happened to Fred's hair? It seem to be much thinker and more white these days. Even more disturbing than that is that he seems to be having trouble breathing when he walks or stands very long. Is he suffering from emphasema or congestive heart failure?

I hope his wife isn't making him go through this so she can become the youngest White House widow.
