50+ Recent Republican Embarrassments
Posted by Mike Gehrke on September 5, 2007 at 03:18 PM
The Democratic Party's research team has put together a list of more than 50 recent Republican resignations, pleas, sentences and scandals.
REPUBLICAN FUNDRAISERS, OPERATIVES AND PLAYERS
Jack Abramoff - Abramoff, a Bush Pioneer and Republican lobbyist, pleaded guilty to two counts of fraud in connection with Suncruz casino boats in January 2006. He also pleaded guilty to two additional fraud counts and tax evasion in connection with lobbying for Native American tribes in 2006.
Alan Fabian - Fabian was the co-chair of Mitt Romney’s national finance committee and a prominent Republican donor who gave 100,000+ to the RNC and the Bush inauguration. In August 2007 he was indicted for allegedly making $32 million in false purchases of computer equipment to pay for his lavish spending habits.
Many more below the fold
Kyle “Dusty” Foggo - Foggo, the former #3 official at the CIA, was indicted by a Grand Jury on corruption charges in connection with his campaign contributions to Republican members of Congress and resulting federal contracts.
Robert Kjellander - Kjellander, a Bush Pioneer and RNC treasurer, was subpoenaed by federal prosecutors in August 2005 as part of a probe investigating corruption at the Illinois Teacher’s Retirement Systems, a state run teacher’s pension fund. The subpoena specifically sought records relating to Kjellander’s receipt of $4.5 million in fees from the Carlyle group, for helping to land the business with the pension fund.
Bernie Kerik - “Federal prosecutors in New York have informed Kerik that he is a ‘target’ of a criminal investigation into possible tax problems, illegal wiretapping and making false statements in an FBI questionnaire connected to Kerik's nomination.” In addition, a Daily News“investigation revealed that Kerik accepted cash and gifts from Interstate Industrial, an allegedly mobbed-up construction company.”
Michael Mixon - Mixon, a major NRCC donor, was indicted on charges of fraud and funding terrorism.
Thomas Noe - Noe, a Bush Pioneer, pleaded guilty in May 2006 on charges of money laundering in connection to his political fundraising. He was also the key figure in the Ohio “Coingate” scandal.
Ralph Reed - Reed, a Bush Pioneer (2000), Ranger (2004) and prominent Republican lobbyist, is being investigated because of a $4 million payment that Abramoff made to Reed.
James Tobin - Former NRCC, RNC and Bush-Cheney ’04 staffer was convicted in December 2005 for his role in a plot to stop people from voting in New Hampshire in 2002.
Brent Wilkes - Wilkes, George W. Bush's finance co-chairman in California, was indicted in February 2007 by a Grand Jury on corruption charges in connection with his campaign contributions to Republican members of Congress and resulting federal contracts.
Sam Wyly, Charles Wyly - The Wylys, top Bush fundraisers from Texas, are under investigation for tax evasion by federal and state agencies. The Billionaire Bush patrons are accused of setting up offshore trusts on the Island of Man, a noted tax shelter in the Irish Sea, in an attempt to evade paying taxes on stock options.
REPUBLICAN SENATE
Conrad Burns - Former Sen. Burns was the largest recipient of Abramoff-related money in the U.S. Senate, and made calls urging the Department of Interior to award federal grants to an Abramoff client. That effort failed and Burns later inserted an earmark directing the grant in an appropriations bill.
Larry Craig - Sen. Craig pleaded guilty to disorderly conduct in incident where police report documented conduct in a Minneapolis airport restroom. Craig also returned $43,500 in campaign contributions received from Brent Wilkes and his business associates after an Idaho repored that he sponsored an amendment to earmark a $3 million contract to Wilkes’ company.
Pete Domenici - In April 2007, the Senate confirmed that the Senate Ethics Committee was investigating Sen. Domenici’s role in phone calls he made about ongoing investigations into Democratic officials shortly before the 2006 election.
Bill Frist - The Securities and Exchange Commission in investigating whether Frist, the former Senate Majority Leader engaged in insider trading, selling off holdings in HCA immediately before its value plummeted. Frist maintained that his holdings were in a blind trust, but the Senate frequently provided Frist with information on his holdings and Frist directed the sale of the stock. At the time of the sale, Frist’s brother was on HCA’s Board of Directors.
Mel Martinez - A FEC audit found the Martinez campaign failed to properly disclose $162,000 in contributions.
Lisa Murkowski - A complaint filed with Senate Ethics Committee alleges that Sen. Murkowski received property from an Alaska real estate developer at a price well below market value.
Ted Stevens - Sen. Stevens home in Alaska was raided in July 2007 by the FBI and IRS looking for evidence in connection with an investigation of a remodeling project conducted by VECO.
David Vitter - Sen. Vitter acknowledged committing a "very serious sin" after his number appeared five times in the records of what federal authorities say was a Washington call-girl operation
REPUBLICAN HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES
Ken Calvert - A Grand Jury issued a report which said that Rep. Calvert received an illegal no-bid contract for sale of 4 acres of public land in California.
Tom DeLay - Former Rep. DeLay resigned from Congress after being admonished by the ethics four times, being indicted for money laundering in Texas, and revelations showing numerous controversial ties to Jack Abramoff.
John Doolittle - In April 2007, the FBI raided Rep. Doolittle’s home in its investigation into ties between Doolittle and Jack Abramoff.
Tom Feeney - The U.S. House said that Rep. Feeney violated House rules by accepting a trip to Scotland. Feeney was required to pay the cost of the trip to the Treasury. He was later questioned by the FBI in the investigation into lobbying activities of Jack Abramoff.
Mark Foley - Former Rep. Foley resigned in September 2006 after the FBI and House Ethics Committee opened investigations into allegations that he sent suggestive emails and instant messages to teenaged current and former House pages.
Katherine Harris - Former Rep. Harris accepted $32,000 in illegal contributions from MZM Inc.’s President Mitchell Wade. She then requested tens of millions in earmarks that would benefit Wade. Wade later pleaded guilty to making illegal campaign contributions, in addition to conspiracy, corruption and election fraud. Harris maintained that she did not know the contributions were illegal and lost her race for Senate in 2006.
Patrick McHenry - A campaign worker for Rep. McHenry has been indicted for voter fraud in North Carolina.
Gary Miller - The FBI is investgating land deals in which Rep. Miller made an estimated $10 million.
Bob Ney - Former Rep. Ney was sentenced to 30 months in prison for corruption after pleading guilty to conspiracy and filing false financial disclosures.
Rick Renzi -In April 2007, the FBI raided an insurance company tied to Rep. Renzi. As a result of the raid, Renzi resigned from the House Intelligence Committee.
Don Sherwood - In September 2004, Washington, D.C. police responded to a 911 call placed by Cynthia Ore, 29, who said she had locked herself in the bathroom of Rep. Sherwood’s apartment after he began choking her while giving her a back rub. Ms. Ore later filed a lawsuit alleging Rep. Sherwood "repeatedly and violently physically assaulted and abused" her during a five-year affair that ended in September 2004.
Don Young - Federal officials are investigating a number of allegations against Young, including his ties to Veco, an Alaska company whos CEO pleaded guilty to bribery, as well as contributions connected to a Florida highway and a transportation measure benefiting a Wisconsin trucking company.
Curt Weldon - In September 2006, the FBI raided the homes of Rep. Curt Weldon's daughter and one of his closest political supporters as part of an investigation into whether the veteran Republican congressman used his influence to benefit himself and his daughter's lobbying firm, according to sources familiar with the investigation.
BUSH ADMINISTRATION
Claude Allen - “Allen, who had been Bush's domestic policy adviser, pleaded guilty to theft in making phony returns at discount department stores while working at the White House. He was sentenced to two years of supervised probation and fined $500.”
Robert E. Coughlin II - Coughlin, resigned as deputy chief of staff in the Criminal Division of the Justice Department after “a federal task force investigating the activities of disgraced lobbyist Jack Abramoff,” began probing whether Coughlin traded favors with an Abramoff colleague.
Lurita Doan - Doan, head of the General Services Administration, attended a luncheon at the agency earlier this year with other top GSA political appointees at which Scott Jennings, a top Rove aide, gave a PowerPoint demonstration on how to help Republican candidates in 2008. A congressional committee is investigating whether the remarks violated a federal law that restricts executive-branch employees from using their positions for political purposes.”
Brian Doyle - Brian Doyle “pleaded no contest to sending sexually explicit Internet messages to someone he thought was a 14-year-old girl. Doyle was sentenced earlier this month to five years in prison.”
Frank Figueroa - “Figueroa, the former head of the Tampa office of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, pleaded no contest to charges of exposure of sexual organs and disorderly conduct. He was accused of exposing himself in front of a teenage girl at an Orlando mall.”
Alberto Gonzales - Gonzales, who resigned as Attorney General, is under investigation by the Justice Department inspector general over whether he “gave false or misleading testimony to Congress, including whether he lied under oath about warrantless surveillance and the firings of nine U.S. attorneys.”
Steven Griles - Pleaded guilty to lying to a Senate committee in a hearing into the Abramoff scandal.
Eric Keroack - Keroack, Bush's choice to oversee the federal family planning program, resigned from the post suddenly last month after the Massachusetts Medicaid office launched an investigation into his private practice.
Donald W. Keyser - Keyser was sentenced to a year in prison for “mishandling classified documents and concealing his relationship with a female intelligence officer from Taiwan.” Keyser “had been the second-ranking official in the State Department's Bureau of East Asian and Pacific Affairs before retiring in 2004.
Scooter Libby - Convicted of obstruction of justice and perjury in connection with the CIA leak investigation.
Julie MacDonald - MacDonald, a deputy assistant secretary at the Interior Department resigned “about a week before a House committee was set to hold hearings on political interference with biologists,” and “a month after the department's inspector general issued a stinging report that said she violated federal rules by giving industry lobbyists internal agency documents and rode roughshod over agency scientists.”
Susan Ralston - A top aide to White House strategist Karl Rove “resigned after disclosures that she accepted gifts and passed information to now-convicted lobbyist Jack Abramoff.
David Safavian - Safavian, the former chief of staff for the General Services Administration, was sentenced to 18 months in prison on “obstruction and concealment charges for lying to investigators about his relationship with [Jack] Abramoff.”
Robert T. Schofield - Schofield “pleaded guilty to accepting at least $600,000 in bribes to provide fraudulent citizenship documents to hundreds of Asian immigrants.”
Tom Scully - Scully “was the front man for the Medicare and Medicaid programs through December 2003,” before he resigned from CMS after allegedly withholding data from congress on the cost of the new Medicare law. Federal investigators said Scully should repay seven months of his salary for the violation.
Theresa Shaw - Shaw stepped down amid “growing criticism that the agency has been lax in overseeing the government's $68 billion student-loan program.” “The department's inspector general, John Higgens, is looking into possible conflicts of interest involving department employees and lenders. The inquiry follows an investigation by New York Attorney General Andrew Cuomo that has unearthed widespread payments by lenders to schools and aid officials responsible for referring students to lenders.
Roger Stillwell - “Stillwell, a former Interior Department official, was sentenced to two years on probation in January after pleading guilty to a misdemeanor charge for not reporting hundreds of dollars worth of sports and concert tickets he received from Abramoff.”
Randall Tobias - Tobias resigned after a madam facing federal prostitution charges named Tobias as a client of an escort business that specialized in “sexual fantasy.”
Mark Dennis Zachares - Zachares pleaded guilty “to conspiracy to defraud the public by steering potential clients and inside government information to disgraced lobbyist Jack Abramoff in return for cash, gifts and the promise of a high-paying job on K Street.” Zachares “admitted to prosecutors that he accepted more than $30,000 in tickets to 40 sporting events, a luxury golf trip to Scotland and $10,000 in cash from Abramoff and his lobbying team. He acknowledged providing them with information about the reorganization of the Homeland Security Department, federal disaster and highway aid, and maritime issues.”

"Another one bites the dust!
Another one bites the dust!
And another one's gone, and another one's gone,
And another one bites the dust!!!"
Keep them dropping!
Drop the big ones!

From the Bayou to Baghdad: Mission Accomplished?
by Amy Goodman
During the second anniversary of Hurricane Katrina, several dozen public-housing residents and activists marched to the headquarters of the Housing Authority of New Orleans. The marchers occupied the offices for hours. As the military and police surrounded the building, Sharon Sears Jasper, a displaced resident of the St. Bernard housing project, spoke: “We are not going to stop. We refuse to let you tear our homes down and destroy our lives. The government, the president of the United States, you all have failed us. Our people have been displaced too long. Our people are dying of stress, depression and broken families. We demand that you open all public housing. Bring our families home now.”
In contrast, the day before, I had asked Mayor Ray Nagin if he made any demands of President Bush as they dined together the previous night. Bush had just spoken at a school named for Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., whose issues of race and poverty are starkly laid bare in New Orleans. Unlike those who had lost their homes, the mayor replied, “It wasn’t a time for demands.”
Tracie Washington is the president of The Louisiana Justice Institute and a lifelong resident of New Orleans. She says only a quarter of the more than 5,000 affordable housing units in New Orleans are filled. “There is a feeling by our government that public housing of old needs to be dismantled, buildings shut. We have litigation going right now to change that, but it’s horribly slow, and it’s tragic.”
She describes the plan by which public housing will be converted to “mixed-income” developments: “Some of these developments that are closed down took in no water. But the decision was made to take advantage of an opportunity. Hurricane Katrina came. ‘Look what we can do. We can keep these people away from here, bring in the bulldozers, tear down this housing.’ ”
It is not just renters. Private housing is being demolished as well. Washington described how the city instituted a stunning policy to allow the legal demolition of homes. Whereas once homeowners would have at least 120 days and several layers of appeals to prevent their homes from being demolished, Nagin instituted an “Imminent Health Threat Demolition”ordinance. He now gives residents only 30 days to stop demolition.
To the tens of thousands of New Orleanians scattered across the country, the city’s scant notice-a sticker attached to the property plus mentions on a city website and in The Times-Picayune newspaper-is clearly insufficient. According to The Times-Picayune, in addition to homes being destroyed, liens are placed on properties for the cost of the demolition, setting the stage for the displaced owners to lose their property to the city.
That is why groups like Common Ground Collective, The Louisiana Justice Institute and People’s Hurricane Relief Fund and Oversight Coalition are taking action, on the streets and in the courts.
According to Common Ground’s founder, Malik Rahim, of the more than 12,000 people previously in the lower 9th Ward, only about 400 live there now. Where once there was a dense, vibrant African-American neighborhood, I walked with Rahim through tall marsh grass, vacant lots and destroyed churches and schools. A few isolated, damaged brick homes remain.
Curtis Muhammad, a longtime resident of New Orleans and a member of People’s Organizing Committee, believes the economic interests driving the failing reconstruction must be investigated. “People see [Donald] Trump down here trying to buy real estate, the big tycoons. The gated communities are growing faster and faster. Look at public housing. They could have knocked that out in a week if they wanted to, cleaned it up. That’s a lot of people that they could have just brought home. You can’t explain that.”
Two years after Katrina, as Bush flew from the bayou to Baghdad, a People’s Hurricane tribunal-putting every level of government on trial-was wrapping up in New Orleans. A group was selling T-shirts there that reads: “Don’t believe the hype. Gulf Coast recovery is not ‘slow’-it is a privatization scheme that takes away our homes, schools, hospitals and human rights.” Mission accomplished?

Kristol: Another Dishonorable Chicken-hawk
by Cindy Sheehan
I know just a little bit about Mr. William Kristol:
He is the son of one of the founders of the “neo-conservative” movement, Irving Kristol .
He is a commentator on Fox News.
He was Chief of Staff for one of the political “geniuses” of our time: VP Dan Quayle.
He is editor of another Rupert Murdoch war-propaganda rag, “The Weekly Standard.”
He is a member, and signer, of the Project for the New American Century[http://www.newamericancentury.org/], which is a game plan for US global hegemony based on military strength and one of its goals and objectives was the over-throw of the Hussein Regime in Iraq with a next stop in Iran and Syria (because the PNAC plan is going so well, so far).
By all accounts, Mr. Kristol is a brilliant man, who like his father before him, uses his brilliance for destruction. He is a shameless supporter of a failed, murderous, and miserable strategy in Iraq and Afghanistan and one of the “mushroom cloud” crowd.
One thing Mr. William Kristol is not, is a combat vet.
Although he was born in 1952, he never served during Vietnam. I am sure while at Harvard he was a staunch supporter of the American effort to enrich the war profiteers while ostensibly stopping that war’s “enemy” communism from spreading across Asia. Secure in his studies during that quagmire, Kristol joins a long line of neo-con chicken-hawks who are drenched in other people’s blood and love to send other people’s children to die for their lies.
I don’t know anything, or care to know anything about Mr. Kristol’s private life. I don’t care if he is another closeted gay Republican or is a happily married hetero with children. I do suspect, however, that if Mr. Kristol is married, his children are not serving in Iraq, being misused by the very same incompetent and cowardly Commander in Chief (who also did not serve in Vietnam) that Mr. Kristol shamelessly supports while the entire administration and Republican hypocrites are crumbling from corruption and scandal.
I do know one thing for sure about Mr. Kristol, he does not like to be bothered with those pesky little things called facts. On February 20, 2003, Mr. Kristol incredibly gushed: “If we free the people of Iraq, we will be respected in the Arab world.” This statement shows an amazing lack of knowledge of the Arab world or any kind of foreign policy sophistication (but does show a great use of Rovian-Foxian expolitation of emotion). No one in the Arab world (except maybe, Israel, which is geographically located in the “Arab world”) was calling for the US to “free” Iraqis. No one from Iraq except “Curveball” or the slimy and profit-motivated, Ahmad Chalabi, both Iraqis who weren’t even living in the country at the time of the invasion were calling on the USA to liberate them. In fact, after many years of murderous sanctions against Iraq, a fierce nationalism arose in opposition to the US-UN led sanctions. According to National Intelligence Estimates, since the illegal and immoral invasion of Iraq, Islamic Jihadism has increased. Mr. Kristol is also incredibly ignorant of human nature and human history. No peoples like to be occupied. No child, brother or sister, or mother or father, who sees a loved one blown away by American or insurgent’s bombs will love the oppressor. In fact, violence only creates more violence and more life-long enemies.
Now Mr. Kristol is safe behind his desk and computer calling for another attack against Iran. I think he hears the non-existent cries of the Iranian people to be liberated from their regime. The Iranian people are directly next-door to Iraq and they see what US “liberation” brings. It comes with the awful price of high civilian casualties; hospitals bombed, Doctors killed; no electricity or clean water; and eternal occupation.
In a recent op-ed for The Weekly Standard, Mr. Kristol makes many more tactical and fundamental errors. The ANSWER coalition is calling for mass mobilizations begining the week (Sept. 15) that the White House authored Petraeus report on the surge is due. Members of Iraq Veterans Against the War (IVAW), who are leading the September 15th march, are calling for a “die-in” to end the march and begin the rally. The vets, unlike the chicken-hawk neocons, have actually served in war, particularly the one that Mr. Kristol imagines is such a success. IVAW is asking activists to represent a killed service-member and at an appropriate time lie down. Taps will be played and also a simulated 21-gun salute. It sounds respectful to me, being the mom of one of the soldiers, and I will proudly, yet sorrowfully, be lying down for my son that day. Many of the march/rally participants will be “dying” to represent the hundreds of thousands of Iraqis who have been killed for Mr. Kristol’s deceptions.
Mr. Kristol calls on the “honorable” members of the anti-war movement to denounce the die-in and lumps MoveOn.org with other organizers of the die-in. MoveOn is not associated with the die-in as they do not support non-violent, direct civil disobedience. What I find so amusing is that Mr. PNAC-Fox News-Chicken-hawk has made himself the judge of what is honorable.
Mr. Kristol has a problem with the anti-war movement using the names of the fallen without the permission of the families. No one got my permission when my sons portrait was used in the pro-war memorial at Arlington Cemetery. Casey’s name and likeness has been used by pro-war people all over the nation without my permission. Why is that okay, Mr. Kristol? I know for a fact such memorials as Arlington West, Eyes Wide Open and our memorial at Camp Casey would remove names of soldiers at the next of kin’s request. If any family member so requests, I am sure IVAW will do the same thing—but a word of caution:
Even though the members of IVAW (all my adopted sons and daughters) have a big problem with the occupation of Iraq and with the Bush crime family, they served their country honorably (unlike Mr. Kristol) and they all fought side-by-side with the fallen. They love their brothers and sisters and they would themselves have died to take the place of any one of them. Do not, never, ever, claim that we families, or the Iraq Vets are dishonoring our sons and daughters killed by the lies of The Weekly Standard , Fox News, BushCo., et al. That is the biggest lie of all, or maybe it’s this one that Mr. Kristol told on March 1, 2003:
“Very few wars in American history were prepared better or more thoroughly than this one by this president.”
I would laugh if I weren’t crying so hard.
If Mr. Kristol gets his PNAC way, by this time next year, we will need a lot more people at a die-in.

i cant believe how dumb you guys are. youve spent the last 8 years bashing republicans and nothing to get a candidate into the white house.
Norman Hsu, where are you?
I was reading something before I came to this site. A book called the Aquariums of Pyongyang. And it was amazing. A really good book. The author at one time recalled his life in north Korea and mentioned his "education" in the north's school system and the constant propaganda that expounded the evils of America, Britain and the west in general and the lists of people who were against the regime and who were in political prisons. After reading this thread I realized something. Democrats are the same as the north Korean communists. Lists of people to be "purged" and the general indocrination of its followers. MarthaA sounds suspiciously like Kim Il Sung. Maybe there is something to it.....democrats and Stalinism. Man-sae!
RUSHBABIES,YOU READ? WOW, MABE YOUR A LIBERAL AFTER ALL. LOL.
RushBaby:
Get used to it. Rush Limbaugh, Ronald Reagan, Bush Daddy, Baby Bush and the rest of your REPUBLICAN ILK, started the REPUBLICAN propaganda campaign against the LEFT back in the 1970's, and have continued that REPUBLICAN PROPAGANDA CAMPAIGN against the LEFT to this very day; so far the political LEFT, COMMON POPULATION DEMOCRATS ONLY, have engaged in a defensive action against the attack of the REPUBLICAN RIGHT, with regard to REPUBLICAN binary emotional rhetoric and REPUBLICAN dialectic, relative to the REPUBLICANS and their American aristocracy supporters.
The political LEFT, COMMON POPULATION DEMOCRATS, have not started a propaganda offensive against REPUBLICANS at this time. When COMMON POPULATION DEMOCRATS rid the Democratic Party of DLC REPUBLICAN MOLES in the Democratic Party, we will have time to concentrate on an offensive of binary emotional rhetoric and Democratic Party dialectic.
Since you are most probably a lumpen-proletariat REPUBLICAN, here is a definition of dialectic: dialectic is the art of reasoning and disputing to distinguish truth from error as well as the use of reasoning and disputing to make fallacies pass for truth.
"You people", REPUBLICANS, have engaged in a one-sided war of dialectic against COMMON POPULATION DEMOCRATS that started in the 1970's; that era is ending and a NEW ERA of Democratic Party dialectic for the 70% MAJORITY COMMON POPULATION is starting, GET USED TO IT.
RushBaby:
As far as propaganda goes, "you people" take care of your own REPUBLICAN QUEERS; the LEFT, the 70% COMMON POPULATION, will take care of theirs, REPUBLICAN services are not required. After all, Cheney's daughter is a queer. Most of the REPUBLICAN PARTY's "culture of corruption" is probably queers and steers of one form or another.
The 70% MAJORITY COMMON POPULATION IS ENGAGING in the war declared by the REPUBLICAN PARTY. As Newt Gingrich once said shortly before you REPUBLICANS packed him off to the CIA, "GET USED TO IT".
RushBaby:
"You people" use propaganda against the LEFT, we use dialectic rhetoric. BIG DIFFERENCE!!!!
GOP:
WE THE PEOPLE, the 70% MAJORITY COMMON POPULATION, have been doing all we can to get a democratic candidate to represent the 70% MAJORITY COMMON POPULATION, but the autocratic DLC CANCER HAS SET ITS ROOTS into the LEFT and is in the process of metastasizing. Having another cancerous DLC REPUBLICAN LITE CANDIDATE to further the DLC metastasization of the LEFT is meaningless, as DLC REPUBLICAN LITE CANDIDATES will NOT represent the 70% MAJORITY COMMON POPULATION.
Right now the 70% MAJORITY COMMON POPULATIONS BEST CHOICE IS TO "WRITE IN"
Mike Gravel for President [NOT DLC] and GRAVEL HAS GRIT
Dennis Kucinich for Vice President [NOT DLC] and KUCINICH HAS BACKBONE
NO REPUBLICAN EVER REPRESENTED THE 70% MAJORITY COMMON POPULATION.
GOP:
We, the 70% MAJORITY COMMON POPULATION must do radiation therapy on the DLC REPUBLICAN LITE CANCER in order to save the political LEFT from destruction.
Remember, GOP, COMMON POPULATION DEMOCRATS don't use propaganda, unlike the GOP, COMMON POPULATION DEMOCRATS use dialectic rhetoric. We're Fair and Balanced as "you people" say.
GOPforlife:
First of all, we put up a decorated war hero who thinks about the issues against your candidate.
You know, the one who got his dad to get him out of Vietnam, who was snorting cocaine while our candidate was trying to make the country better.
We put up a man who was strong enough to admit he was wrong, and was willing to rethink when things didn't go to plan.
You put up your same guy, the one who wouldn't admit he was wrong if he mistakenly said 2+2=5.
Fool him once, shame, shame, on, fool him twice can't get fooled again...right?
You think the thought of campaigning against your candidate scared any of us? Think again...we thought that people couldn't possibly pick HIM again.
However, the special interests came out in droves.
There is a whole new category of political mud-slinging now. It's called swiftboating, where you can take a decorated war hero, and make him appear like a traitor.
Democrats didn't stoop so low, so we got knocked down. The problem is, this kind of malevolent politically motivated trash gives the side who uses it first the advantage, then brings the whole system down by its very use and nature.
Think about how much people hate politicians. Is it because they're "flip-floppers" or because they are willing to do ANYTHING to get elected?
These days the Republicans play off the Iraq war against the Democrats as a political tool, making our brave men and women die and suffer as pawns to their unwillingness to look at the realistic totality of the situation.
Military progress does not equal political progress, and hand-picked statistics can show the Iraq war as at its peak rather than in decline, as the Republicans want you to believe.
Americans shouldn't be dying for a government that cannot stand, and is not making progress in clearing the reasons for sectarian violence.
At best, the "surge" is holding back the inevitable civil war that will be the result of unachieved/unachievable political issues.
The problems in Iraq go far deeper than those the military faces, and until they are willing to make the first steps in solving the greater issues, our loved ones will be in the line of fire fighting for a long term peace that will not happen.
Military force is not the solution to every problem, and sometimes violence deferred becomes violence increased.
Wow...lots of writing, but nothing was actually said. What does Cheney's gay daughter have to do with the democratic party being a bunch of socialist pigs? I said that the propaganda the left spews out is equal to that being taught in Stalinist north Korea. And I get an answer like "Well, we use dialetic rhetoric, Mr. Rushbaby. There is a differance, you know." And judging from the volume of responses I recieved from that post, I am convinced that there is a link between Socialism and the democratic party. I think I struck a nerve. I guess you better get used it it, too. The Republicans will expose the truths of the democrats and the people will know the full truth of what this party is really about. Republicans have failed us, too don't get me wrong. But when iot comes right down to it, I would rather have a Republican in office than a democrat from the simple reason that after looking out for him or herself first, the Republican will bear the needs of the country next. I don't trust anyone who cares for other countries as much as they care for their own country. Teddy Roosevelt. Get used to that.
Oh and thank you peaceman. Yes, well maybe I, too have a liberal thread running in me somewhere. I like to read. :P
I also speak two foreign languages. I have to be liberal now.
RECENT DEMOCRATIC EMBARRASSMENTS
WHAT WILL IT TAKE...for Wimpocrats to actually do anything but name call, cave in and whine about how difficult it is to work with such a slim majority.! Baker-Hamilton ...just a foot note. Petraus report...most likely a crock but certain to be ignored if it's not.. Deadline for leaving Iraq....not even a voluntary deadline has a chance. Reid/Pelosi about to cave again. Illegal spying...we really disapprove but thought it would be a good idea to authorize it. Torture...no big deal anymore. Habeous Corpus ...shame on you Mr Decider but we'll go along if you really want to shitcan it. Kucinich resolution to impeach Cheney....no way. Feingold motion to censure...ditto.
Motion to prevent Bush from bombing Iran...we don't want to be obstructionists. Leave Iraq....we don't want to be responsible if things go poorly. Impeach....off the table.
Republican lite Democrats, the cockroaches Dean once talked about before he became a big tent guy, the DLC....firmly in control. Do what the American people elected us to do....forget that. The Democratic Wing of the Democratic Party...it's silence is deafening.
Anybody for impeaching PELOSI, OR REID, OR CLINTON?
rushbabies,i reluctantly must agree with you about the do nothing majority democrats, but they have to deal with the biblethumping bafoon of a president that will veto everything they try to do.mabe if we could get a few repubs to join us to overide him (they never will, blinders you know)than mabe we could right some the giant blunders he has made.mabe the way things are going with the repubs (seems they all are gay)then like you say, they have to worry about themselves right now not the future of this country.
And, here's another member of the REPUBLICAN "Culture of Corruption:
Former GOP Power Currin Going to Prison
By Titan Barksdale
The News & Observer
Thursday 06 September 2007
As a federal prosecutor, Sam Currin spent six years prosecuting drug dealers, pornographers and other criminals. Now, he will spend nearly the same amount of time in prison himself.
Currin, 58, whose career included stints as a judge and as chairman of the state's Republican Party, became the latest North Carolina leader to be sent to jail when he was sentenced this week in federal court to 70 months behind bars on money laundering and obstruction charges.
His attorney, Mark Calloway, would not comment about the sentence.
Currin rose through the political and legal ranks as a protégé of then-Sen. Jesse Helms. He worked as an aide to Helms, a conservative Republican who eventually nominated him for the U.S. attorney position and later for a federal judgeship, which Democrats vehemently opposed. Critics of the nomination called Currin a religious and political zealot and accused him of lying in a 1982 personnel hearing over his firing of a paralegal.
Currin, 58, was never confirmed. But he served as a Superior Court judge before becoming the Republican Party chairman.
Though Currin hasn't had a leading role in politics since he was ousted as Republican Party chairman in 1999, his actions could contribute to a sense of mistrust of government. Voters have seen Meg Scott Phipps, a Democrat who was the state's agriculture secretary, former Democratic House Speaker Jim Black and state Rep. Michael Decker sentenced for illegal activities.
"It adds to this sort of feeling of scandal and corruption in politics at the moment," said Andy Taylor, the political science chairman at N.C. State University. "Perhaps its another thing that Democrats can say when they point to Republican corruption."
Advocates for ethics in politics say this shouldn't be used as political fodder.
"Currin was a player in politics in a big way, but, unlike some others, his wrongdoing wasn't connected to his political works," said Bob Phillips, the state's executive director of Common Cause, an ethics reform group.
"I think it reinforces attitudes that are pretty hardened about people who have been in public service, and that feeling is that they are prone to mistakes," Phillips said. "It's unfortunate because that's a perception and not reality."
Currin, who has about 90 days before he has to report to prison, has agreed to testify against his former business associates.
The crimes he was sentenced for Tuesday stem from Currin's work as a lawyer in private practice.
Currin pleaded guilty in November to federal charges that he conspired to launder about $1.3 million that a computer spam artist made by inundating e-mail inboxes with stock schemes.
Prosecutors say Currin's role netted him more than $240,000. He funneled money from the scheme into his law firm's trust account, and later lied about it to a grand jury.
Carter Wrenn, a veteran Republican consultant and former Helms strategist, said Wednesday that he remembers Currin as a competent, nice person.
"I knew Sam pretty well back in the Helms years, and I'm sorry for him and his family," Wrenn said. "I guess he made some pretty unfortunate and bad mistakes."
-------
***************************************
If Sam Currin was a Democrat, criminal behavior wouldn't be called unfortunate bad mistakes. One doesn't go to prison for mistakes, one goes to prison for criminal behavior. Currin wasn't good enough at his criminal behavior to NOT get caught, which as far as REPUBLICANS are concerned was an unfortunate and bad mistake, as the "culture of corruption" is whatever the corruption market will bear.
It is an unfortunate mistake of the 70% MAJORITY COMMON POPULATION to have allowed the DLC COOPERATORS and FACILITATORS that made themselves a part of the "culture of corruption" to infest the government to begin with. So much corruption could never have happened without the DLC's faux-liberal/REPUBLICAN LITE democrats' facilitation and cooperation, because that is why all these REPUBLICANS thought they could get away with corruption, as they did not think anyone was standing in their way.
And, there wasn't anyone standing in their way until the GRASSROOTS, the 70% MAJORITY COMMON POPULATION, stood up in 2006. The GRASSROOTS BASE OF THE DEMOCRATIC PARTY, the 70% MAJORITY COMMON POPULATION, MUST CONTINUE STANDING AGAINST THE DLC until the REPUBLICAN "culture of corruption" and their democratic facilitators and cooperators are out of the U.S. Government and out of the Democratic Party COMPLETELY.
Rushbaby:
This all boils down to 'you take care of your queers and we will take care of ours', a metaphor. Your queers are in power now, and they are responsible. It is our responsibility to provide an alternative to your queers. As the reform of the Democratic Party progresses and the DLC REPUBLICANS are purged from the Democratic Party, solutions will start to take shape.
deaniacforever:
Both the answer to your post and the solution to the COMMON POPULATION Democrats problem is as follows:
*******PROACTIVE DIALECTIC FOR THE COMMON POPULATION*******
The LEFT, the 70% MAJORITY COMMON POPULATION, must develop a program of proactive dialectic and QUIT being reactive to the dialectic of the RIGHT.
The LEFT must learn to push its own dialectic program and QUIT being reactive to the dialectic of the RIGHT.
In the Dialectic War between the LEFT and the RIGHT, between Democrats and REPUBLICANS, those who respond in defense of opposing dialectic make themselves LOSERS; those who take the OFFENSIVE with proactive dialectic that forces the opposition to respond make themselves WINNERS by the assertion of their will and their willingness to struggle for what they believe in.
Those who are without a dialectic program to struggle for and are only concerned with reaction to the dialectic of the opposition are LOSERS from the beginning, because they are not struggling for a cause greater than their own self interest and greed in the moment; those who represent only their own greedy self interest without a dialectic program representing a struggle for the greater good of their constituents will not prevail and do not deserve to prevail politically; this is the position represented by DLC Democrats, and this is why COMMON POPULATION DEMOCRATS must develop dialectic for their political struggle, and have the will to execute their own dialectic in their own greater good in a proactive rather than a reactive manner.
Rushbaby:
Haven't you noticed the link between the REPUBLICAN PARTY and CORPORATE COMMUNISM??? Socialism is a mild form of Communism. The REPUBLICAN PARTY hangs together in walled and gated communes apart from the COMMON POPULATION preaching against communal benefit for the 70% MAJORITY COMMON POPULATION, while they are doing what they are preaching against.
How is it that communal benefit of Socialism, a mild form of COMMUNISM, is bad for the COMMON POPULATION, but is good for the communes of corporate industrial parks and the communes of walled and gated communities of the 10% minority of the American aristocracy and the 20% minority of the Professional Middle Class???
Rushbaby:
REPUBLICANS do not bear the need of this country, like Ruport Murdoch, their moving to China to avoid bearing the brunt of what they have done.
Rushbaby:
You have nothing to say other than low grade slop of irrelevant propaganda; you do seem to have gorged yourself at the propaganda trough.
It would be more entertaining talking to you if you could get your snout up a little higher out of the propaganda trough and upgrade a bit. Unless you can improve, future responses will be relegated to two words, "unworthy drivel".
Here's another one to add to the list -
James McLean of Dublin, Ohio (where Gilmor also had a home which was the source of much controversy since Dublin is not in the district that he serves and used his son's address during his campaign) was charged on Tues 9/4 (ahem - same day Gilmor found dead)for failing to report on his state-mandated ethics forms the gifts he received in 2004 from Keefe, Bruyette & Woods, a New York financial services firm.
McLean, a former chief investment officer of the Ohio Bureau of Workers' Compensation, this week became the 21st person charged in the scandal that has gripped the agency for more than two years.
Both McLean and Gilmor had deep ties to Noe "who is serving a 27-month federal prison sentence for illegally funneling money to President Bush's re-election campaign, was convicted separately last year on 29 state charges related to his management of the rare-coin fund. Mark Lay, the CEO of MDL Capital Management, is facing federal fraud and conspiracy charges related to the bureau's $216 million in losses."
Part of that money that was funneled to the bushistas came from the Ohio State Workmen's Compensation Fund.

This week I took the time to compile my own list of Republican corruption. (I went ahead and included the pedophiles.) I thought I'd finish in a couple of hours; it took me three days. Last time I counted I had around 200 names.
I thought you might enjoy a gander.

Rupert Murdoch is an Australian Republican who only took on American Citizenship for the purpose of monopolizing our communications and press. Democratic positions are never reported unless they are unflattering and so much of the Republican misdeeds are quelled by his power. Murdoch is a threat to national security.
