White House Blatantly Edits GAO Report on Iraq

Posted by Stephanie Taylor on September 4, 2007 at 03:30 PM

Last week, a leaked report from the Government Accountability Office (GAO) revealed that Iraq has failed to meet 15 of 18 benchmarks for political and military progress.

The report was leaked by an official who feared the White House would water down its grim assessment of the situation in Iraq. Now, it appears that the official was right. From the Associated Press:

Baghdad has not met 11 of its 18 political and security goals, according to a new independent report on Iraq that challenges President Bush's assessment on the war.

The study, conducted by the Government Accountability Office, was slightly more upbeat than initially planned. After receiving substantial resistance from the White House, the GAO determined that four benchmarks--instead of two--had been partially met.

Let's do the math. According to the original report, the Iraqi government met only 3 of 18 benchmarks. After the White House intervened, the Iraqi government was given "partial credit" for 4 more benchmarks.

A headline about the original report would have read: "Iraq hasn't met 15 of 18 benchmarks." Now the Associated Press headline reads: "Iraq hasn't met 11 of 18 benchmarks." A significant--and blatant--difference.

hmmmmm, 'partially met'.

now is that like, you know,

'not really met'? 'un-met'? '1/2 met'?

Those desperate neo-cons grasping at straws.

We KNOW that Bush is going to say our boys need to all stay there. With the add'l billions he is looking for, he will keep them in this quagmire until there is not a single US troop left alive. What does he care? Oh yeah, he sobs on God's shoulder every night about it all! Hahahahaha

Bush is an asshole and the sooner we toss him out on his ass, the better.

We all went to school. 7 out of 18 = about 38.8%
That is Royally Flunking!

"Partially met" in some circles calls for one to go in front of one's commanding officer and get a royal ass chewing. It can also mean a career killing OER/NCOER.
In civilian circles it means getting fired.
It doesn't mean anyone needs to continue to pander to the losers who didn't make their goals.
Bush hasn't made a goal for the last six years.
Fire his ass!
IMPEACH NOW!!!!!!!

It figures, this incompetent president and his band of thugs will do anything to cover their butts even if it comes to doctoring reports. It's high time to remove Bush and Cheney from office and give them jobs more fitting to their true nature.

Congress has the power of the purse, meaning it has the ultimate veto over the war. Democrats control both chambers of Congress meaning they have the ultimate veto over the war. If they chose not to schedule a vote to give Bush a blank check, the war would end. The whole idea that they "can't end the war" is the highest form of dishonesty. It is the Innocent Bystander Fable - the oft-repeated lie where Democrats claim they are powerless even though they control an entire branch of the government, and their public efforts to try "to make sure everyone understands" the lie as truth is just another insult in a long string of insults (the latest of which is the one where Democrats have the audacity to portray a non-binding bill by Colorado Sen. Ken Salazar that Democrats themselves had previously called "toothless" is now - without any change at all - supposedly a heroic bill that ends the war).

For the United States to be able to get out of the REPUBLICAN Bush War in Iraq, the REPUBLICAN LITE NEW FAUX-LIBERAL DEMOCRATIC LEADERSHIP COUNCIL, DLC, that COOPERATES to keep the United States in the war, must be unmasked for the REPUBLICAN RIGHT WING EXTREME ORGANIZATION that it is:

Official Website for the DLC - NEW DEMOCRAT/REPUBLICAN LITE NEW LIBERAL MOVEMENT:

http://www.ndol.org

This IS the DLC's website. Be sure and open the above link because Hilary Clinton and Bill Clinton are front and center with their REPUBLICAN LITE NEW FAUX-LIBERAL PROPAGANDA that is using the 70% MAJORITY COMMON POPULATION against the best interest of the 70% MAJORITY COMMON POPULATION.

The following is an alphabetical list of some members of the DLC, if you are unsure as to whether your Senator, Representative, Governor or Mayor, is of the DLC, then use their names and SEARCH this site to find out if they are members of the DLC. There are only a few democratic members in Congress who haven't been led to the autocratic RIGHT against the best interest of the 70% MAJORITY COMMON POPULATION. Mike Gravel and Dennis Kucinich are two candidates that have the strength of will to NOT BE LED BY THE REPUBLICANS away from the interests of the 70% MAJORITY COMMON POPULATION as neither are members of the DLC. Write in a vote for Mike Gravel for President and Dennis Kucinich for Vice President so that the 70% MAJORITY COMMON POPULATION will be able to dump the unconstitutional DLC:

I can't say how important it is that our Senators & Congressmen work together to get our troops out of Iraq NOW. They need to find their spine and continue to submit the same funding bill (with hard time-line)for removing out troops from harm's way. If Prez Bush vetoes it, resubmit it, again and again. If our elected Legislators cannot work together to accomplish this, it's time for they're replacement.
