Fred Thompson Favors Slashing Social Security

According to The Corner, last night Chris Matthews -- who is moderating the Republican debate in a couple hours -- discussed Fred Thompson's Social Security scheme for massive benefit cuts for seniors down the line by radically changing the formula that calculates them.
It's really quite extraordinary how huge the cuts Thompson has proposed are (contrary to the National Review's claims). How big are they? If this had been implemented in 1940, it would have meant a 60-percent benefit cut for today's retirees.
There's already a name for this plan: the Bush plan, which he also favored back when he remembered what it was. Thompson actually thinks it makes sense, theoretically, that seniors should have the same standard of living that people had in 1940 -- with benefits only staying level with increase in prices. He wants to start "now," rather than going back 70 years, but the effect for future generations will be the same.
He came out with this plan earlier this month, but it's worth revisiting now that Chris Matthews brought it up on the eve of the debate.

The republican corporate fascists will continue to attack any and all entitlement programs and any program that attempts to increase assistance to misfortunate individuals. In the case of Social Security, 'reform' will likely be one of their major issues going into '08 for the simple reason that ever since the '04 election, they have identified it as a 'wedge' issue and one they hope will resonate with younger voters. Our young people are wiser and smarter than Thompson and company give them credit for being and realize the pugs plan offers no assurance of a comfortable later life. If the objective is truely to 'fix' Social Security, and many other national ailments, we must stop wasting our nations wealth on illegal military actions. We must get out of Iraq. And we must pass necessary legislation to prevent such actions in the future. Let the fascists continue to delude themselves over thoughts of privatizing the world, we will speak truth to power and ride into '08 on the failure of their arrogance.
I fear some of our Democrats might want to tinker with Social Security as well. They are using various names for changing it so we should be on guard. A word to the New Democrats:
Leave Social Security alone.
As if the GOP's position on health care wasn't dragging them down enough, now Freddie wants to take Bush's social security "reform" and turn it into a full scale social security "slaughter"?
Someone give him his meds before the Republicans eliminate them from Medicare...and he gets ahold of a gun and shoots himself in the other foot.
dont the republican think about the people on social security when they go after when ther tax cuts are causing the defict if you want to fix it do it by not harming the people who the most vunerbal
