Republicans Attack 12-Year-Old For Saying Health Care is Important

Posted by Stephanie Taylor on October 11, 2007 at 03:12 PM

Last week, a 12-year-old boy named Graeme Frost recorded a radio address for the Democratic Party about why the Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP) is so important. After a serious car accident, Graeme suffered from severe brain trauma and lost the ability to eat or walk. He received the medical care he needed because of CHIP.

Bush vetoed a bill that would have funded and expanded the program, calling the cost "excessive." The 265-159 partisan vote in the House, while decisive, fell just short of a veto-proof majority. Republicans just might stop poor children from receiving health-care.

But it gets worse. The radical right-wing attack machine started to smear Graeme Frost and his family. Now Think Progress has uncovered evidence that the attacks might have been coordinated from the office of Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY).

The good news is that the American people aren't buying it. We asked you last week to send letters to Congress in support of children's health care. So far, you've sent almost 198,000 letters--many, many more than we ever thought possible.

Please let your friends and family know that you can still support children like Graeme Frost by using our online tool, and keep those letters coming.

I hope someone read this, but this is really becoming upsetting. See, now the GOP Neo-Con dictatorship is clearly becoming the root of all evil.
They got elected on an electoral fraud. They mislead the country on a war based on lies and greed. They hunt and jail people without a proper court order, arrest, torture and don't give this people right to bail or even to go to a jury.
And, the cherry of the cake, they are now taking healthcare from little poor kids.
God, it is time for us, Americans, to show those republicans what our country stands for. Time to sweep them out of the congress and out of the white house. And see, opposed to all this evil, we may have a ticket that is all good: Hillary President, Obama VP, and now our Nobel Prize Al Gore, the secretary of state! If that is not a MVP team, I don't know what should be!

What the people on the right have done to that poor 12 year old boy and his family is terrible. These right wing fanatics have sent death threats to this kid and his family just because the 12 year old spoke out against Bush's veto of the expansion of SCHIP program. Normally I won't call Republicans and their allies, heartless scum. But in this case I have no choice but to do so. I hope Bush,Cheney and their right wing allies are thrown in prison for their rest of their lives for what they have done to this poor boy and his family. I can't believe Pelsoi would compromise with the right wing, war criminal, sociopaths in the White House.

What this party has done is Awful, It has threathen a 12yr boy by saying "Read this paper kid or die". This radio address was written by the DNC not a 12 yr old. Give Me a Break shame on you Democrats. I bet you, that this boy doesn't even know what schip is even all about, but the Dems in this party doesn't care about this child, No, they are just using this kid as a puppet for their own hate filled smears. Of course people like Darien and Anthonyvel won't see this for what is really is. Wake up

Nobody is taking health care away from anyone. Health care is available to anyone who wants it, unlike the socialized programs our cousins across the pond have. And the DNC using this kid for their own propaganda purposes is yet another low for the DNC. The kid was used because they didn't expect the other side to fire back on you people. I'm going to call it as I see it...this SCHIP bill was nothing more than a Trojan Horse to a larger, government sponsored health care program brought to you by your party. President Bush saw this and said "No." And I say again...not a single person is having their health care being taken away. What would you rather do: spend your money on a new BMW every couple of years or provide health care for your children? What is more important?

We should use kids for all our adds so Republicans would have a lot of children to beat up and show the World just who the GOP is!

Yeah freeforall....that kind of thinking shows how gutless the democrats actually are. Can't fight your own battles? Use children. African warlords think that way...

I hate to break it to you, alwaysright.
What you say is happening to this country has already happened under Bush and business can actually pay taxes through the executives that run it. Since Bush has refused to invest in alternative energy instead of foreign oil, gas prices have gone through the roof. Executives and CEO's have outsourced jobs under Bush, these guys have gotten away with so much. Only by closing these off-shore accounts, discouraging outsourcing, double taxing companies and taking away any benefit they had in this country can we stop this from happening.

allways wrong, have you ever heard of a tax abatement? this is something local goverments offer to a BUSINESS to move to there community .this is a waiving of there PROPERTY TAXES. like always you know nothing!

peaceman on October 16, 2007 at 12:55 PM

alwayswrong, mabe i should explain this to you since you walk around with those blinders on all the time. if a business just passes on higher taxes to the consumer, why would they care about paying lower or even no taxes to the extent they would move there ENTIRE BUSINESS to another location?you need to get YOUR OWN talking points and stop listing to rush!

You democrats don't get it. Nationalized healthcare is a bad idea. 'Big government', which is what you want, is just another step forward on the road to totalitarianism. Government is here to do what citizens cannot - and citizens are perfectly capable of getting their own healthcare for private organizations. Whenever anything is in the hands of the people, it prospers. But when it is in the hands of the government, it fails.

Hey all you liberals (like peaceman). Wise up and stop saying big government is good. The tax system is flawed. We need the FairTax plan.

stupidemocrats on October 17, 2007 at 05:01 PM

I don't think this went through a minute ago, so I'm sending it again.
Hey all you democrats (especially people like peaceman). you guys need to wise up snd realize big government is not for America. The tax system is broke and so is the healthcare system. We need the FairTax plan.

Don't buy these Democrat lies. This 12 year old's family makes $80k plus a year, lives in a $400k house and CHOSE not to buy any health insurance for their family. Ask anyone in Canada or Europe what they think about socialized medicine- it does not work and only raises taxes that are further wasted by your government. The solution here is to vote out every democrat and republican in the senate and congress - and replace them with people who know what paying bills is really like.

This is the same party that supports killing unborn kids, and is now trying to save childrens' lives with health care coverage. How ironic.

rightwingers, you say goverment is bad unless it serves you (faith based initiative) or funds needless wars, how do you propose we pay for that?tax the middle class to death while you cut taxes for the rich.if im going to pay higher taxes, then it should be to help people, not try to further your religion or for wars.

peaceman on October 18, 2007 at 08:47 AM

socialized medicine does not have to be what republicans are making it out to be. It can be the same as education. Hiring who is best for the job, paying them for what they deserve, letting them work where ever they choose. Do you see little communists comming out of our country because of socialized education? or do you think we should get rid of mr. president's no child left behind statement?

The reason I don't like the Republicans of this generation is because they walked away from their principles of live and let live, they have intervened in people's lives, instead of listening to mainstream America, they have listened to the extreme right and their views. We truly need universal healthcare for everyone and put an end to privatization.
