DNC Chairman Howard Dean: Democrats Honor America's Veterans and Military Families by Keeping our Promises
November 13, 2007Democratic National Committee Chairman Howard Dean today issued the following statement honoring America's veterans and military families this Veterans Day:
"This weekend, I join the American people in marking one of our most solemn and sacred holidays. Each year on Veterans Day, Americans come together to honor the service and sacrifice of the almost 27 million veterans of our country's Armed Forces. Generations of Americans from all backgrounds and across the country have answered the call to service, putting their lives on the line in defense of our nation. We are all deeply indebted to them, as well as to the brave men and women serving in our Armed Forces today. Our hearts grieve for the families who have loved ones and friends on battlefields in far off places like Iraq, Afghanistan and beyond.
"I'm proud that under Democratic leadership, Congress passed the largest increase in veterans' spending in our country's history and is working to improve the quality of the veterans' and military health facilities like Walter Reed, safeguard veterans' personal data, and fully fund research for illnesses like Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder and Traumatic Brain Injury. We will continue to work hard to ensure that the commitment of our veterans and military families is matched by our government's commitment to them. After giving so much in service to our nation, this is the least we can offer in return."
