Fred Thompson's Bernie Kerik?

Posted by Michael Link on November 5, 2007 at 12:25 PM

Fred Thompson's top fundraiser has a lengthy criminal past, as the Washington Post noted on Sunday:

Thompson selected the businessman, Philip Martin, to raise seed money for his White House bid. Martin is one of four campaign co-chairmen and the head of a group called the "first day founders." Campaign aides jokingly began to refer to Martin, who has been friends with Thompson since the early 1990s, as the head of "Thompson's Airforce."

Martin entered a plea of guilty to the sale of 11 pounds of marijuana in 1979; the court withheld judgment pending completion of his probation. He was charged in 1983 with violating his probation and with multiple counts of felony bookmaking, cocaine trafficking and conspiracy. He pleaded no contest to the cocaine-trafficking and conspiracy charges, which stemmed from a plan to sell $30,000 worth of the drug, and was continued on probation.

Thompson's campaign said the candidate was not aware of the multiple criminal cases, for which Martin served no jail time. All are described in public court records.

We should have all the felony people in jail for selling cocaine to write Thompson to ask how They can get on probation instead of serving all their lengthy time. This should be made public.

Actually, we should have all the presidential nominees workmen get caught for drug use. This way they can all be on the same level.

I guess we can determine Thompson's stand on the "war" on drugs based on how fast he throws this guy out, or if he does at all.

There are so many corrupt Republicans out there, it's funny. I started writing Republican of the Week hoping to find a juicy story on one of them once a week. I need to rename it Republican of the Day. Repressed bathroom sex addicts who are homophobic, anti-drug crusaders whose best friends are drug dealers, family values hypocrites who are all divorced, corruption, conspiracy, bribery, money laundering. You gotta love these guys handing us the next election this way.

UPDATE: Philip J. Martin has resigned from his position as a "First Day Founder" for Fred Thompson's campaign.

Meanwhile, Rudy is still defending Bernie Kerik.

Unfortunately, anyone who enables President Bush is responsible for whatever he does, just like any parent is responsible for their out-of-control five-year-old. This is true of Republicans and Democrats, including Senators Schumer and Feinstein, who are about to confirm another chief enabler, Judge Mukasey, who is no better than Gonzales. Please, anyone who cares about the Constitution, beg Schumer and Feinstein to stop this out-of-control president from overriding the Constitutional by refusing to confirm Mukasey. Make Bush come up with a nominee that won't allow him to continue ignoring the Constitution. If they don't do this, they are responsible for Bush's continuing to break the law.

Just thought I would share this information for anyone who wants to support Obama without going broke. I bought a bunch of stuff from http://www.obamacampus.com for a rally that we had at my school and I just wanted to recommend it because it's inexspensive, fast and I know people don't have a lot of money to spend on bumper stickers and T shirts. I think we should be able to support Obama without going broke!

Wow! With investigative power like Thompson's security group, drug dealers would have free fun run of this country!

Hybrid,

Spunky would be happy with Thompson in charge?

How did this guy be off with probation after the second cocaine charge? I know he's a Republican, but I'd love to know which Republican politician pulled the strings. We're looking at 1983...so that makes it the Reagan administration. Could this guy be the one who suppled GW?
