Okay, now. Some of these Democratic centrist groups really just have to stop talking about the rest of us like this.
Democrats told to resist policies advocated by what they called the "non-interventionist left" wing
That must be a new name for anti-war, anti-Iraq-invasion folks. What will they think of next?
Bill Richardson just said on Air American that he won't consider being VP. BUMMER!
Thank you Michael for getting rid of the TROLL too! :-)

WASHINGTON (AP) - Vice President Dick Cheney, who has a history of heart problems, experienced an irregular heartbeat Monday and will be evaluated at George Washington University Hospital.
The condition was detected when Cheney was seen by doctors for a lingering cough from a cold.
"During examination he was incidentally found to have an irregular heartbeat, which on further testing was determined to be atrial fibrillation, an abnormal rhythm involving the upper chambers of the heart," said spokeswoman Megan Mitchell.
She said Cheney would go to the hospital later Monday for further evaluation. She said that if necessary, he would be receive cardioversion, a procedure that involves the delivery of an electric impulse to the heart.
About 2.8 million Americans have atrial fibrillation, the most common type of irregular heartbeat, and cases are increasing the population ages.
The condition occurs when the heart's top chambers, called the atria, get out of sync with the bottom chambers' pumping action. It is not immediately life-threatening, and the heart sometimes gets back into rhythm on its own. Many times, patients aren't aware of an episode of atrial fibrillation.
But if the irregular heartbeat continues, it eventually can cause a life-threatening complication—the formation of blood clots that can shoot to the brain and cause a stroke.
The main treatment is to try an electrical shock to restore normal heartbeat. If that doesn't work, patients may need to take the blood thinner warfarin to reduce stroke risk.
Other options include anti-arrhythmic drugs or, for severe a-fib, surgical procedures to interrupt the faulty heartbeat.
Now wait just a darn minute here. I do not believe this story. Who really believes that VP Cheney has a heart?
Oh and they're saying good things about BIDEN in IOWA BOB.

Black Neighborhoods Under Attack
One would think that the areas of many cities, towns, villages, hamlets or whatever gathering of residences that the so called "black side of town", "the other side of the tracks", "the ghetto", or just plain old "black neighborhoods", they would be composed of property that had very little value compared to other areas and this is generally the case.
But developers decided that they were tired of paying astronomical sums for prize land. A bright idea hits home and they reason: why not purchase property in the black neighborhoods and upgrade the entire area. The property is dirt cheap compared to some selective areas and no one is going to complain or complain enough to get something done to stop the effort.
Gentrification. Happening all over the nation and placing thousands of people out of homes and a residence to lay their head. Katrina gave everyone remotely with a realtor's license and anyone who was a developer with backing and funding a "pie eaters" dream. But this isn't just occuring in New Orleans. Residential neighborhoods of blacks in every part of the country are on the drawing board slated for carving and redressing in the name of rehabilitation which gradually gets handed over to the developers.
And what is to happen to the residents??? It's called do the best they can because in mores than not, they don't own the residences and therefore are left to fend for themselves. No one cares, not the governments that have authority over these areas, not the realtors involved and surely not the developers.
"Housing is not a privilege reserved for the wealthy," but a human right that must be affirmed through action.
All in reality
Peace to everyone

Well good evening. Hope everyone had a good Thanksgiving.
Just catching up on Chimpy Boy's latest insanity.
Does he really think he can negotiate a treaty with Iraq WITHOUT Congressional approval?
So Chimpster wants to broker a deal with Israel-Palestine. Swell, so does every President. Doing it this late in the game is not likely to work.
The best of all was seeing Chimpy Boy smiling with Al Gore! That must have killed him to have to be nice to Al Gore and congratulate him on his Nobel Peace Prize. Sorry Chimpy Boy but Al made a bigger splash than you over these past years.
NOoooooooooo caller on the show just said he heard that Dennis and Ron Paul may be teaming up.

Ahhh, I see that Fox Noise's John Gibson and Bill O'Reilly are now moonlighting with the Sudanese government:
It probably seemed like the most innocent of ideas to the newly arrived teacher from England, still settling into life in the Sudanese capital Khartoum. She asked her class of six and seven-year-olds to dress up and name a teddy bear, and keep a diary of his outings. She hoped it would provide material for projects for the rest of the year. And it might have, except for the name the children chose for their bear: Muhammad.
Now Gillian Gibbons, 54, is spending her second night in a Sudanese prison, accused of insulting Islam's Prophet.

NJ-07: Whitman's Daughter To Run For Congress Hotlist
by RandySF [Subscribe]
Mon Nov 26, 2007 at 02:40:04 PM PST
It looks like the Republicans have found a candidate. Politicker NJ is reporting that the daughter of formner governor and EPA secretary Cristine Todd Whitman will run for Congress in the NJ-07.
Kate Whitman, the daughter of former Gov. Christine Todd Whitman, is expected to seek the Republican nomination for Congress in the seventh district. Whitman, 30, a former congressional aide, spent the weekend meeting with a number of fundraisers and officials who are supporting her candidacy.
I do not know much about Kate, but I don't think the former governor did not leave New Jersey on good terms. I guess if a Keane eon't run, why not a Whitman. Any Jersey kossacks want to chime in?
================================================
Tee, Hee, Hee! This will be a good one. NJ people, including Repubs, have a string dislike for Whitman. She left on very bad terms to become a Bush hack. As head of EPA, she certified air quality at ground zero as good when it was unhealthy.
No idea about Kate Whitman. I'll poke around on bluejersey web site some.
George Bush is taking Hillary down, she need to scrap from the streets and cut the umbilical cord. Obama get down into the street levels like you did in Harlem. Edwards your are ho hum, pick up the spirit. Come on Hillary be a Democrat of people not royalty, I do not want Republicans to say we told you so. I may not vote for you especially, if you do not get your political boxing gloves on. Your A Team Hillary is earning a F grade.
You know what there is a gem in making a trip to New Orleans and make a speech from Jackson Square showing the street level of Democratic pride. Walk the ninth ward in saying we also need to work on America.
If I could, I would show the public school decay and say we also need "We the people" solutions with our national policy. I would have a picture with public school students around a candidate with the words, "Yes America! They need you too!" If they will not do it in a dream I would like to dress up as Ben Franklin in Costume and do it just to shame Washington.
I want to thank every one here, things are being more openly debated here. Oh yes, I see the troll but I pray they have respect to the people on this site for they are gems that must sparkle for our futures children sake. And in fact everyone must be on board the USS Constitution.

Its funny, when they go to the booth here they punch next to the 'R'. But when they talk, they sound like Dems. It all comes down to marketing and product perception. Idahoans think Dems are weak and believe that calling themselves a conservative makes them appear patriotic and strong. Trouble is, they get led around like a bunch of scared children by the leaders here.
A tangled web indeed.
Have a great nite!

Dawn, at this point there is very little advantage in that. If he had done this 2 years ago it would help whomever he picked. I kinda doubt that any of the GOP candidates would jump at this (unless they were eliminated from the race). We'll probably end up with a neocon ... maybe he'll appoint Rice!
Hey Jersey!
Then Hillary would win in a landslide.
Rice has failed to badly at her job it wouldn't take MUCH to convince AMERICA she is a HUGE mistake! Totally unqualified. Like the REST of the present cabinet.
Blue - Same to you! :-)

sunny,
Thanks for the link. They aren't being very subtle are they?
Do the Centralists honestly think Labor and the Anti-war wings of the party will get out the vote for one of their candidates with an attitude like this?
How many times do they think the grassroots will go to bat for them when they continue to brazenly ignore the issues most important to the American working poor and middle class? There is a growing populist sentiment in this country which is going to pass us by if they continue to wallow in the past.
Real change is what the voters want. I'd hate to think that Rove would be able to steal away this great opportunity from our party only because some are more interested in promoting past policies instead of attending to the problems of the present.
Voters are not stupid. Either you deliver what they want or they will start looking for it elsewhere. And the GOP will be more than happy to fool them again.
So I guess the real question is: How stupid is our party going to be this election...again?
I accidently posted on old blog. Sorry for re-posting.

None of these candidates are "scraping" it as you say. Hillary hasn't shown what she will do for Black America, BUT she desperately wants our votes and neither has Obama who doesn't know how to go about asking for the black vote. Edwards has come remotely come somewhat close because of his sincere stand against poverty. The others??? Oh well, we're just fodder for them. If we gove our vote fine, if we don't, fine.
This is a great article in Vanity Fair by Nobel Prize economist Joseph Stiglitz. Even if economics isn't your "thing", I believe you'll find this interesting and disturbing:
Dukakis was a stupid choice
Clinton turned into a good choice (although I didn't think so at first)
Same with Kerry
Gore was Clinton's choice and a pretty good one. Hey I wasn't following the primaries back then but was AL also running for Prez the same time as Bill?
And is that just how it works? The Primary winners or CHOICE always picks one of the OTHER running candidates as their VP? LIke Kerry picked Edwards?
I know that's not how it works in the PUG factory. Or does it? I don't follow their primaries either. Or didn't until 2000. I need a history lesson someone! Pretty please? :-}
Another very interesting article brought to you by the "non-interventionalist left" (geez that's a mouthful):
Archbishop: U.S. Is Worst Imperialist
Submitted by davidswanson on Sun, 2007-11-25 17:41. Impeachment
By Sunday Times of London
THE Archbishop of Canterbury has said that the United States wields its power in a way that is worse than Britain during its imperial heyday.
Rowan Williams claimed that America’s attempt to intervene overseas by “clearing the decks” with a “quick burst of violent action” had led to “the worst of all worlds”.

J,
So is medical care and an equal opportunity to earn a decent living.
There seems to be little humanity left in policies being developed in the Beltway. If Cheney doesn't have a heart, what's the problem with the rest of the them...including those promoting half measures on our side?
Do the Centralists honestly think Labor and the Anti-war wings of the party will get out the vote for one of their candidates with an attitude like this?

Hi Sandy,
I got use to this sort of nonsense by now from the DLC-ers. They have been promoting this "liberal hawk" philosophy for years. What has it wrought? If you look at even from just a political success standpoint, it's been a failure. DLC has never motivated any activist or voter for that matter. They cater to monied corporate interests who want to maintain the status quo.
well, here we go again, talking smut against hillary. i don't get what your saying. she doesn't stand up for america. somebody please explain. we do need a centrist folks, things we need and want will not pass without a person who can give a little and take alittle, the american people are tired of all the bickering. they want people to work together, not sit back and say their side is right and your side is wrong. that's exactly what hillary has done. i know everyone is pist about her Iran vote. i myself think she made a mistake, but folks, she's trying. she at least made it in to vote, unlike some of the other dem's who now like to rub her vote in. those folks have no place to talk now, they did'nt even vote. i think it was on purpose because they knew it would be a hot issue. totally political. i would like for someone to give me true reasons for not voting for her. connie in texas
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Democratic front-runner Hillary Clinton trails five top Republican presidential contenders in general election match-ups, a drop in support from this summer, according to a poll released on Monday.
Clinton's top Democratic rivals, Barack Obama and John Edwards, still lead Republicans in hypothetical match-ups ahead of the November 4, 2008, presidential election, the survey by Zogby Interactive showed.
Clinton, a New York senator who has been at the top of the Democratic pack in national polls in the 2008 race, trails Republican candidates Rudy Giuliani, Mitt Romney, Fred Thompson, John McCain and Mike Huckabee by three to five percentage points in the direct matches.
In July, Clinton narrowly led McCain, an Arizona senator, and held a five-point lead over former New York Mayor Giuliani, a six-point lead over former Tennessee Sen. Thompson and a 10-point lead over former Massachusetts Gov. Romney.
She was not matched against the fast-rising Huckabee, a former Arkansas governor, in the July poll...

OK, the spectre has now been raised. Can Sen. Clinton (D-NY) win a general election. The answer is yes but there is one huge caviat. She'll have to prove that she can reunite the country.
Since the Republicans won the Congress in 1994, we've all been experiencing this Red State versus Blue State mentality. In other words, you're either with us or against us. IMHO, Sen. Clinton (D-NY) would be the Democratic version of George W. Bush in as much as she would immediately polarize 48% of the electorate. Do we really want another four to eight years of that?
This is an election about change. We need experience in the White House and not some vague, pseudo-intellectual rhetoric about world affairs. That is why I support Sen. Joe Biden (D-DE) for POTUS in 2008. Sen. Biden has the vision for a new direction for America in the 21st century as well as over thirty years of public service. Click on my name and you'll see why Sen. Biden is the most logical and electable choice for POTUS that won't immediately polarize half the nation.
Joe Biden - America's sensible choice for President in 2008. Vote for Joe Biden is your respective state primaries.
Sorry for the repost too, but at least I'm not alone :-)
I guess if one were to regard policy as a science, then one would want policy to be effective and match the data.
In the 1960s, when mail order handgun sales were banned, the murder rate was about 5 per 100,000 and the suicide rate was about 12-13 per 100,000.
In 2006, the murder rate was about 6 per 100,000 and the suicide rate was about 12-13 per 100,000.
The murder rate peaked in 1980 at almost 10 per 100,000 citizens.
Looking at the spreadsheets, I can't see any correlation to any drop or increase near the major handgun legislative episodes (1968 and 1994).
That kind of says it all. Shouldn't there be some sort of efficacy shown to continue regulating against pretty much anything, let alone a constitutional right?
This appears to be another example of my party failing to use science and pandering to people's "gut feelings" about issues. We can do better?
We need to destigmatize mental health issues and get people effective treatment for low or no cost, with no retaliation or discrimination for seeking help.
BTW, I know I'm not alone in having seen horrific handgun wounds up close. It's personal for me...I was at a school shooting (thankfully 200 yards away and unhurt).
I guess that's why I am so insistent on measurable policies that work, rather than reactive, feel-good legislation that does not.
Good night fellow Democrats. Keep the Faith and keep the faith. The liberal revolution is now...
Connie
Welcome. I'm perfectly ok with Hillary. Obama, even JE and ALL of the 2nd tier would get my vote.
The only D who wouldn't isn't running. YAY!
The basic DEMOCRATIC qualities are PRESENT and ACCOUNTED FOR in ALL of them. I am convinced of it.
You of course will have to keep searching until you reach your OWN conclusions.

I hate to say it BUT I just think the Bushitas are trying to pull the wool over everyone's eyes to get a oil PSA signed. Iraq is still a major mess.
Meanwhile, there was one report today that over 50% of Afghanistan is under Taliban control! "Mush" the dictator is on the run in the Pakistan.
This doesn't sound like "success" to me.
I still don't know who the LUCKY Democrat will be that gets MY vote!! IT's still UP in the air. ONe day I read one thing that makes me lean one way then the next day I read something else and I shift.
I can't even say if I HAD to vote today .... who would I pick? I just seriously have NOT decided. It's a really weird feeling too cuz last two times I really really realllllllllllllly wanted Wes Clark and knew it immediately.

Bob,
Joe Biden had a very good interview on NPR last week. He's definitely an interesting person to listen to. By the way, Biden thinks if he can finish in the top 4 in IOWA, he has a chance in the other races. So, we'll see ...
I am still planning on supporting Edwards but am glad that Biden is running as well.
...Pelosi decided against [allowing union leaders to attend]. This session, her spokesman explains, is only about "fiscal responsibility," not globalization and trade not the deterioration of wages and disappearing jobs.
One *could* assume they are considering emergency measures to deal with the plunging dollar, and the potential economic crisis that will ensue if China and/or the Saudis trade their dollars for euros. If so, maybe the unions shouldn't really be there.
In fact, anyone attending that meeting better wear "depends" cuz you might need 'em. Scary stuff.

You're right. WE sometimes put those people up on pedestals they don't really deserve because they are simply people just like you and I and they are far from perfect and probably more scared on a daily basis then MOST of us because the fate of the country depends largely in their barely human hands. (some of them) lol
anyway..... I've rambled long enough
bbl
Peace
We need to impeach them together before they appoint someone as a lever to protect Bush, because if they put a Republican Bush Bohemian in there he will be President until January 21, 2007.
Congress you have again failed US in getting rid of the trash in the first place. Just think of a Thompson appointment to fill Cheney VP spot, is this Rove's hidden hand finally. Thereby forcing Republicans "At Will" to elect Thompson as our Republican Candidate, the Bohemians playing chess with our country, it would take defections of both parties in a patriot Army to stop Musharraf like moves here.
Okay the attack is on three fronts where power brokers are working together.
1) Taking over Pakistan internally
2) Manipulating our own American leaders for positions
3) Making a Palestinian deal for power
There are probably three or four Think Tank moves before elections. One must be about Red China.
But then, I could be wrong. So Dems do your homework! Rove's finger prints are all over this and his fellow secret board members. I could be wrong but I feel the monkey wrench, they have moved up the schedule into failure.
Like Musharraf the Bush Republicans will never let America elect a black President, it goes against the gain of their believes so Obama beware the forces that fought against JFK are moving in place and will do anything to stop you before and after.
One *could* assume they are considering emergency measures to deal with the plunging dollar, and the potential economic crisis that will ensue if China and/or the Saudis trade their dollars for euros. If so, maybe the unions shouldn't really be there.
===================================================
flash, it's hard to imagine anything that Congress can do about the plunging dollar other than limiting spending. If they are not going to take a stand on Iraq spending, there won't be much progress.
Trading dollars for euros is even tougher to stop. It's all market perception and right now we are getting a black eye.
Another tough day on Wall Street. Some news from the business wire:
Financials Turn Holiday Cheer into Fear
Stocks extended losses in afternoon action, led by financials, finishing near session lows amid fears that loans to struggling mortgage lenders may be reduced after Senator Charles Schumer expressed concern about loans from Federal Home Loan Banks to Countrywide Financial. Retailers were also lower despite some initial reports that came in slightly better than expected as analysts offered comments about the start of the holiday shopping season. In other equity news, Citigroup reported that it is looking at ways to cut costs, HSBC announced a bail out of two structured investment vehicles, Philips Electronics agreed to buy The Genlyte Group, while Newell Rubbermaid slashed its sales outlook. Treasuries extended gains, with the yield on the 10-year note finishing at more than a 3 1/2 –year low amid flight-to-quality buying.
=================================================
Possibly Congress is considering taking some action in the subprime mortgages arena.

J, in all seriousness, any democrat will do more for 'Black America' than any rethuglican could ever do. The other day I was wondering about the question of which democratic candidate would do the most towards alleviating the problems rampant in our urban areas. It occured to me that those problems most responsible for conditions in our inner-cities are the same as those democrates are prepared to address; jobs, education, health care, human services, infrastructure. Democrates are committed to raising the level of dignity of all americans; they have promised as much, and I have no reason to doubt their word. But please don't expect any candidate to offer a particular solution to any particular problem, the overall situation is far too pervasive for narrow, simple one issue solutions.

Denny Has Left the Building!
The Daily Herald and the Chicago Tribune Chicago Tribune have both reported within the hour that former Speaker Denny Hastert will resign effective 10:59 pm tonight, Monday November 26.
Offering no explanation in his letter to Gov. Rod Blagojevich, Rep. Hastert did state his desire to "minimize inconvenience to the voters and expense to the counties in the 14th..."

So much for Denny!
Fortunately, one man didn't make the Constitution. There were several drafts of the 2nd amendment and all relate to the recognition that a state needs to defend itself--through the use of its people. The framers were very able to articulate other individual rights and could have done so easily here.

You are correct about the U.S. Constitution not being written by one man (The Great Compromise); however, James Madison is credited by most historians as the "author" of the Bill of Rights, which was created as a separate instrument. The last state to ratify the Constitution was Rhode Island in 1790 but the Bill of Rights was not added until 1791. That is why the opinions and clarifications of James Madison mean the most to me. By the way, I hate guns, I am terrified by them but I love the Constitution and the Bill of Rights - Just like you (I am sure!). That is my primary point. Sometimes you gotta take the bad with the GREAT.
Dodd Responds: No Permanent Bases In Iraq
By Greg Sargent - November 26, 2007, 4:25PM
Over at TPMmuckraker.com, Spencer Ackerman has a big story: The White House today released its guidelines for what will effectively be permanent U.S. bases in Iraq.
Naturally, the question of whether we should have such bases is a good one to pose to the Presidential candidates. So we've begun to ask them for a response.
Now Chris Dodd has become the first Presidential candidate to respond to our story. Dodd spokesman Hari Sevugan sends us a statement with the following key quote:
"Senator Dodd is fearful that the [White House's] lack of clarity on the long-term presence will be used as a justification by this Administration for a permanent military presence in Iraq, at precisely the time when we should be declaring the opposite. In a Dodd Adminsitration, there will be no permanent bases in Iraq."
That's pretty clear.
We'll bring you other candidates' responses as we get them. The Dodd camp's full statement after the jump.

Posted by marymac_memphis on November 26, 2007 at 08:51 PM
Mary, it's too bad that a major reason so many people feel it necessary to have guns is because they too are terrified. Terrified, usually, of something beyond their experience which they don't understand. I remember rumours circulating all over Memphis in the mid-sixties warning people that 'blacks' were going to riot when the 'freedom riders' came to town. The apparent result was a run on stores that sold ammunition with many stores running out of stock. Fear is the greatest enemy of a free people. A fact the fascist rethugs exploit all to often.

When is she going to give Middle America (or for that matter any who has been pushed off to the side) a reason to vote for her?
She takes no position on anything. She says she has experience and then points to what her husband and his cabinet did...not her own accomplishments in life. She's acts like she is so afraid of saying or proposing the wrong thing that she comes out confusing the voter about what she really wants to do.
This is all said with no malice directed at her as a human being. I've always considered her to be a smart professional with a loving and giving nature towards those less fortunate than herself. I admire her determination and command of so many topics.
But she's hurting herself by listening to the advice of those who have become so compromised both politically and economically that they don't know what the American people need or want any longer. She needs to follow her heart not play to the polls.
Maybe she will figure it out soon. But once you paint yourself into a corner, it's the devil to get yourself out of it. Time is running out. She has a communications problem that comes from not being clear about what she wants to do if she's given the chance.
It's not about putting out position papers; it's about taking charge of an issue and driving the discussion about it. She needs to let us see her passion for what she longs to accomplish. It will mean giving up some of the tight control her campaign team now holds over her and risking looking less than perfect.
Strength doesn't come from being right on everything. It comes from trusting others to recognize it in you.
We aren't seeing the real Hillary, and it's a shame.

Gunmen kill 11 relatives of pro-Baath

Masked gunmen stormed the family home of a pro-Baath journalist and killed 11 of his relatives, reports said Monday. Dhia al-Kawaz, editor of the Jordan-based Asawat al-Iraq news agency, was in Jordan when his sisters, their husbands and children were reportedly killed in Baghdad.

Well said. She is courting the the vote of black women very heavily and somewhat desperately. I am curious to know if she is doing the same for white women.
Now it is obvious that Hillary is very comfortable with black women, but that doesn't equate to one having the qualification to lead this country.
Just wondering ......................

rjsnj,
Dodd seems to have become the conscience of the party and the nation of late.
I thought Richardson had the best position on the occupation. But this statement by Dodd goes to the heart of the matter. Why are we allowing the Republicans to talk about a long-term presence in Iraq when there is no reason to be there? Never was.
Iran is not going to take over Iraq; they are traditional enemies. Staying in Iraq to further our dependence on foreign oil is counter productive to developing alternative fuels. The Muslin terrorists are more interested in toppling the dictatorships in Sunni Saudi Arabia and Egypt than Iraq, which now has a Shiite government.
We do not need to have permanent bases. It's not in the best interests of our military, our national security, or our economy...and the American people don't want us to stay one minute after Bush leaves office.
But just watch the Centralists jump to this GOP bait and make themselves look like they are willing to compromise the nation's future because it might make them look weak in the eyes of Republican voters. How many times will they fall into this same trap when they have the vast majority of American people...and all the generals on their side?
Stupid, stupid people.
But please don't expect any candidate to offer a particular solution to any particular problem, the overall situation is far too pervasive for narrow, simple one issue solutions.
Posted by BoilerMan on November 26, 2007 at 07:40 PM
I not only expect, I and many other black Americans DEMAND that some solution come forth from candidates if they want our votes, period.
As for the DEMS coming forth and addressing these issues?? uh uh not buying it. They are committed to winning, period.
Black Americans are now saying that if you want my vote, I want commitment to my issues and problems that have festered over half a century. The time has come to address our own situation not just what is best for everyone. Everyone is not going to lend a hand and we as a people must take action our selves for our selves.
She is courting the the vote of black women very heavily and somewhat desperately. I am curious to know if she is doing the same for white women.
J,
Who knows? We are getting as many mixed signals as black women are. It's like the men in her campaign want to court us, but they are too stupid to realize a woman candidate doesn't need to do that with other women.
Clinton needs to run as Senator Clinton not as the former First Lady (and confidant of another President) or the possible first woman president.
My goodness, Hillary has paid her dues. She doesn't have to beg anybody for anything. Why doesn't she hire some black women as political advisers so they can teach her how project some pride in herself?
I don't get this Clinton victim strategy at all. Perhaps it works with some older women who never were allowed to assert themselves. But any woman 60 or under (or man) finds it's ridiculous.
But please don't expect any candidate to offer a particular solution to any particular problem, the overall situation is far too pervasive for narrow, simple one issue solutions.
Posted by BoilerMan on November 26, 2007 at 07:40 PM
BoilerMan,
What are you saying? Is this the way this country became great?
I prefer to vote for a solution not a promise to look into the matter at a later date, if it's not too inconvenient. You take one step at time. But you take a step, and you start getting your ass into gear.
We'd all still be living in caves if our ancestors sat around the campfire debating the consequences of going outside.
I'm out of here for the night before Harpo starts pointing out the obvious. Let's not make it any easier for the trolls than they already have it.
Good night.
I'm shocked by how slowly we democrats pick up talking points that can change our dialogue on war. I've grown more and more accustomed to this reality in the past six years, but I still think that it is rediculous.
What I learned yesterday, by simply looking over our governments documentation of terrorist acts, is that we are on target to record a tenfold increase in the number of Islamic extremist attacks on U.S. facilities and personnel. This rapid increase comes just as the Bush administration made adjustments to previously existing counter-terrorism strategies, with the intent of reducing just that sort of attack.
Now, is this significant? Hell yes it's significant. How do I know that it is? Well, you tell me whether or not these findings support the strategy current in use?
Sometimes I wonder if we've really elected the right people for the job. Because I see far too many of these opportunities missed. And, don't think that doing so is beneficial to us strategically, because if you fail to adapt strategy to improve results like this then you may as well not strategize at all.
Buffett To Host Fund-Raiser For Clinton
By JOSH GERSTEIN

November 26, 2007
PALO ALTO, Calif.—The billionaire investor known as the Oracle of Omaha, Warren Buffett, is staging a second big fund-raiser to boost Senator Clinton's presidential campaign.
The event, billed as a lunch and conversation with Mr. Buffett and Mrs. Clinton, is set to take place at a San Francisco hotel on December 11. Tickets will start at $100 for students and those under 30, and $250 for others.
In June, the Berkshire Hathaway chairman took part in a similar fund-raiser with Mrs. Clinton in Manhattan. That event reportedly raised about $1 million for her presidential bid.
However, Mr. Buffett has also offered praise for and money to one of Mrs. Clinton's rivals for the Democratic nomination, Senator Obama of Illinois. The investing guru held a fund-raiser for Mr. Obama at an Omaha country club in August.
(maybe Warren should run?) lol he's just being so damn decent and having all that money. It's just NOT natural.

Rep. Diana DeGette - (D) Colorado
DENVER - Colorado Democratic Congresswoman Diana DeGette has endorsed Senator Hillary Clinton's presidential bid and will be a campaign adviser on stem-cell research policy.
Clinton's campaign said Monday that DeGette will co-chair Clinton's Health Care Policy Task Force.
DeGette has been leading proponent of federal financing for embryonic stem-cell research in hopes of curing such diseases as cancer, diabetes and Alzheimer's.

The framers were very able to articulate other individual rights and could have done so easily here.
Posted by BlueinIdaho on November 26, 2007 at 06:01 PM
Naw...this is just untrue. There are several occasions in which the court has decided a phrase leaned for or against individual rights.
While many decisions went against individual liberties, go read Dred Scott. The right of the individual to own and carry a firearm was absolutely stated...even across state lines.
The current gun control laws are unconstitutional, let alone the outright ban on ownership of handguns which has occurred in DC.
Not to mention the laws are totally ineffective. The suicide and murder rates are the same or higher now than in 1960.
Surely the legislature intended for gun control to save lives. Repeal this nonsense and start programs to teach non-violence toward self and others, and start treating the cause, not the symptom.
i find the whole american fascination with guns, gun laws, the right to arm bears its relationship to moses and so on to be really, really played out, boring and stupid.
i like everyone has several guns stashed around the house. how could one not, the friggin things don't rot or wear out or anything and everyone's nutball, weird uncle left a dozen or so to be claimed by whoever got there first and this has been repeated decade after decade over and over in this blood drenched, most imprisoned people of any country in the world nuthouse land of ours.
so could we please move the f_ _ k on to how we build a better world for future generations....cause it won't have anything to do with whether or not folks have access to .50 cal. rifles or handguns AT ALL!
well now i can sit back and relax. so glad this is all worked out and everything is gonna be fine...
(CBS/AP) President Bush on Monday signed a deal setting the foundation for a potential long-term U.S. troop presence in Iraq, with details to be negotiated over matters that have defined the war debate at home - how many U.S. forces will stay in the country, and for how long.
The agreement between Mr. Bush and Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki confirms that the United States and Iraq will hash out an "enduring" relationship in military, economic and political terms.

Well, you know as well as anyone the result of that, so tell me how much the pugs are going to further your situation. Your problems are everyone's problems and, conversly, everyone's problems are your's. They are unique to the extent that we seperate ourselves from each other and in so doing we reduce the effectiveness of a truely collective effort towards meaningful change. What I was trying to point out is that solutions to national problems will take care of many problems we all experience individually and locally. I wasn't in the least saying we shouldn't have solutions.

Gregg,
It's not boring and stupid if you care about quality of government.
Gun control is an issue facing the Supreme Court due to the banning of ownership in DC.
In my mind, policy should have a goal, and that goal should be measurable.
If there is no goal, or the goal is not measurable, or the goal is measurable and not met, the legislation is suspect.
Gun Control is a ripoff. The murder and suicide rates are the same or higher today than they were in 1960.
The people the legislation was intended to save were not saved, all the rhetoric and discussion was a waste, and our liberties and freedoms were hijacked for feel-good legislation that was worthless.
I hope my party will acknowledge this one day and apologize/repeal all of it.
i hope scalia, alito, thomas and roberts are taken away in irons for trying to bring segregation back to the american public school system...my guess is they will vote that everyone should be armed to the teeth 24/7 so try to relax about the second amendment stuff...anyhow have a good night i need some sleep.

democratkickingass: hillary has had those endorsements for a long time, but what do you think oprah is going to do? we need hillary and not obama in the top spot. i still hope it'll hillary/obama 08' just saw hillary of tv, she looks tired, of course so does all other candidates. as the iowa polls show she works harder that all other candidates for their vote. seems like she does that for us too, sometimes i wonder where those folks come up with she is not helping the american people. gee, where do they get that stuff?
Hi connfloyd, you still here? I agree. I like Senator Biden the best of all of the candidates but, if I had to pick one of the three front runners, it would be Sen. Clinton. My only problem with her was expressed by Bob - above on this blog - where he explains that she could get elected and do a good job; but, in some ways we would be back to the vile divisionism. There are always going to be Republicans and people gullible enough to believe Republican lies that will hate her and it is, unfortunately a large percentage. When I ask the Republican's that I know why they dislike her, they can't really tell me. They talk about how she stayed with her husband after Monicagate, and all that stuff. But to actual issues, they can't come up with one solid reason not to agree with her (at least in part), yet, they still do not like her. We need to elect someone who has at least a chance of fostering a small amout of unity. But, no matter who gets the nomination, the Democratic Candidate will get my vote.
You know, back in '04, Kerry was never the DNC candidate Deanie Babies made him out to be. In darkest days, when Fox was running the Swift Boat Bullshit 24/7, did his running mate ever rise to the occasion?
I don't think the guy ever said a word.
Bona fide war hero running against draft dodging rich kid cocainne addict slug balanced with pure slander made-up bullshit running qhole 24-7 on Fox and people bought that hit.
Where was John Edwards in all of this? Bout as AWOL as W.
Conventional wisdom says Kerry should have struck back. Maybe. Maybe Americans are just too Gotdum stupid. Maybe the vice presidential candidate should have gone off like a Roman candle about his rnning mate's record in combat and facing down Nixon. John Edwards shat the bed on this one. It's the putative VP's job. When he tries to blame this on Kerry, he is so full of crap.
In the long run, its a systemic failure. When an out and out chickenhawk killing and maimimg volunteer soldiers impugns the record of somebody that did his honorable best in a hideously bad situation, it was incumbent upon the secpmd in command to go on the offensive. Edwards never said a word about the most foul, despicable bullshit om the history of presidential campaigns. Mot a word.
But he holds this against Kerry. Did he have doubts? Did he stay in campaign mode long enough to think this made-up bullshit about Kerry's war record might bring Kerry dowm? What a duplicitous asshole. It was his job to have his man's back, and the job was simple. One candidate disagreed with the adventure and served heroically. The other worked it, avoided it, and woofed lines of cocaine instead. Very simple, but it seems to to have eluded the vice presidential candidate, who shou;f have been in mad-dog, if not Cheney, mode.
Tell you what. If you really think John Kerry's just too smart, too intelligent, to be president, you're probably right. If you actually believe anybody in Congress actually voted to let the twit invade and occupy Iraq, read the law. He's btraking it. There's no way on the face of the earth the UN will authorize the occu[ation, but the US can override the whole world.
Something's really wrong. Who's still committed to the coalition of the willing? Pervez Musharraf? That would be AQ Khan, the ringmaster of the nuclear baazaar. Right? How can anybpdy be so stupid.

Good evening all, just catching up on my reading up line....
caliban, i also like your post. i totally agree with you about john edwards. this time he shows he can throw some crap, why not then? besides being in the medical field the only candidate they hate worse than hillary is john edwards. they'll never pass any kind of legislation regarding healthcare with him as prez. we'll have a better chance with hillary.as far as maryinmemphis, i also like biden, he is definitely my second choice, but like you any dem will be better than a repuklican. i just think hillary works with dark side better. but, biden does too. i wish people would research stuff and stop getting there opinions from fox news. sometimes here lately i've tuned in just to hear the b.s. there feeding the idiots now. i wonder how many people realize that fox is the channel watched in my neck of the woods which is East Texas (bush world). What i also can't understand is why folks who are just working folk are republicans. it doesn't make sense. i constantly remind them when they take off 3 months off for maternity leave, they need to thank the democrats and slick willie. that really pisses them off. i just really am having a good time at work with the docs, they are beside theirselves thinking the dems are getting in. they believe the taxes are going up and the economy is going down. they just don't remember bill. selective memory. the docs tell me their moving back to canada if hillary gets elected. i remind them they sure need to be taking some boxes home so they can pack. i love it.

Putting A Bounty On Our Elders
At the end of September, I posted on how some private contractors for a Medicare audit had turned into bounty hunters eagerly savaging the bills of rehab hospitals providing services to Medicare beneficiaries. The audit was a trial run ordered by Congress and involved three states: California, Florida, and New York. In California, records show that the auditors routinely rejected bills (up to 90%) from those rehabilitation hospitals providing services to those who'd had total knee or total hip replacements. As a result, several of those hospitals have closed or are about to.
Well, it appears that the other two states involved in the test have noticed the same sort of problem, although not to the extent that California has noted, according to this article in today's Sacramento Bee.
Florida and New York hospital officials are leaping onto legislation sponsored by California lawmakers that would temporarily halt a controversial Medicare auditing program...

Morning gregg, JohnBoy, confloyd, KA-BOOM and Mark,
It's 30 degrees here in NM and clear. I am freezing my ass off.
Not another word about impeachment. I guess we have to wait until Congress returns. cheney and bush must be put in chains and taken to the Hague for trial. NOW! I guess Congress hasn't had enough lies and arrogance yet.
Morning Gregg, Morning Johnedwrd,
I smiled ear to ear reading this one in the paper this morning:
"Sen. Trent Lott's retirement, like that of former House Speaker Dennis Hastert, is an acknowledgment by an iconic GOP warrior that there's little power or fun being in the minority — and that Republicans should get used to it.
Talk of burnout by Congress' merriest power-slinger reflects the GOP's grim reality: The public is in no mood to return Republicans to the congressional majority any time soon.
Lott's is the 23rd Senate seat Republicans will be defending in November, nearly twice the 12 seats Democrats will fight to keep. The chamber is split, 49-49 with two independents who typically vote with Democrats.

Nope, I never said I wouldn't vote. What I am saying is that black folk need to explore other options.
There was a time just because the DEM party was the DEM party, black voters automatically ran like lemming to cast a straight DEM ballot. I am sayig the time for that is gone. Black voters should no longer do it and the party should no longer look for it.
And no, the DEM party is not giving black people answers or solutions. Even some electd officials on a DEM ticket privately acknowledge this.
Morning Pam,
It's possible that hastert and lottacrap are going to be lobbyists. The rules change in January and they want to beat the rush.
Morning J,
I wonder if the prison in the Hague has striped clothing or just plain orange. I guess it doesn't matter when one is hanged for war crimes, crimes against humanity and crimes against peace.
You know those 'sucesses' we are looking for now in Iraq, rather than "Victory"? Well we finally are learning what those are going to be!
What's That Sound? Why It's the Further Lowering of the Bar on Iraq
In Sunday's New York Times U.S. Ambassador to Iraq Ryan Crocker was quoted as saying Iraq is "going to be a long, hard slog."
Sound Familiar??
It should, because here was then-Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld -- four years and one month ago:
"It will be a long, hard slog."
This thing has been going on for so long, the administration is reusing excuses. But hey, at least the administration can now claim it's no longer hostile to recycling, right?
Even more staggering was the rest of the Times piece, which was part of the administration's quarterly Lowering Of Expectations. It's like clockwork: if there's a piece in the Times quoting unnamed "leaders" in "both capitals" who "continue to hold out hope", an "elated" White House, and mention of "positive signs" all around, you know the seasons have just changed. It's sort of like the solstice, only profoundly depressing.
What else did we learn this time out? That "with American military successes outpacing political gains in Iraq, the Bush administration has lowered its expectation of quickly achieving major steps toward unifying the country..."
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/arianna-huffington/whats-that-sound-why-it_b_74042.html
anyone who does not think the Centrists in the party have an adverse affect on the Party, here is one example of it !
"The Sunday, November 25th Washington Post editorial poses a vital question for taxpayers: "Is limiting federal subsidies to farmers with incomes over $750,000 dollars unreasonable?" It is a commentary on the latest farm subsidy and loans proposed legislative raid on the treasury. The well-targeted editorial argument ends with a challenging and provocative statement: "For a Democratic Congress eager to restore a modicum of balance to the distribution of income in America, this should be a very easy call."
Calling all Democrats. Decent members arise; you have nothing to lose but your fog of confusion. Shake off the chains of Blue Dog deception and seduction. Exorcise from your midst the legal racketeering tumor that drains precious blood from our safety nets. If this is not an "easy call" please explain to the voters the way in which a cancer controlled by the Blue Dog Coalition, a House Legislative Service Organization, has metastasized within our House of Representatives and now causes a paralysis which prevents any logical and reasonable response to this obvious fiscal atrocity.

I recently read a book, which went into the formation of the DLC. Which Dems, Why, their goals, etc.
This group was originally formed by Southern Dems, who were tired of New England Liberals winning Candidacy all the time. They decided that the Democratic Party previous focus on Workers and Minorities was a deteriment to the party, and that the Party should back off on offering solutions and policies which benefitted those groups. They wanted to lay off civil rights for blacks, things like minimum wage increases for workers, etc, in order to appeal to a larger group (i.e. Southern and mid-west).They wanted to move to Corporate friendly issues.
They were the original "centrists" if you want to put a name to them.
I hate to say , but Bill Clinton was one of the original members.
The infiltration of this group into the Democratic Party has been the destruction of Liberalism as we knew it. They helped make being a Liberal a bad thing.
This is why Hillary is still more corporate friendly than we want her. Why she will not remove the cap on SS from the $97,500 it is now.
But this is not the time in History for Minorities, Gays, Women to try and make a statement by not voting Democratic. There is too much at stake for this Country and the people to either vote Republican or vote 3rd party which is the same as voting Republican.
We must first get the Democratic majority firmly in place, and then clean out the Corporate loving ones who choose helping those that do not need it, over those that do. This will not be done overnight. I plan on being around to help the movement.
"My Heart Cries Out for America -- for What We Have Lost." Remembering the Election of Al Gore and Then the Mugging of Democracy
"My heart cries for America - for what we have lost. How much of our patriotism is tied up in being able to stand tall? Being able to be the champions of justice? Knowing what we believe in and saying so? Patriotism is one of those intangible things we, the people, have. I don't like it being damaged goods. I don't like America being hated around the world. We had made so much progress but it seems to be slipping away faster and faster everyday."

Good morning, Dems
A quick hello and goodby as I'm off to work.
43 and sunny in the great Northeast.
Later.
Pam, I saw that look on bush's face on the news last night. He just kept laughing with that ridiculous frat boy look on his face. Jackass.
He turns my stomach, Cyn. Every time I look at him. I heard him on the radio as I was driving yesterday, talking about the Palestinians. He sounds like a retard. THIS is supposed to be help for solving world problems? My Gawd, we can't get rid of him quick enough!
i am correct that this is a one day problem solving session?
one day in seven years bush is going to try to get his game on??
they spend more time at cvs trying to figure out how to display the easter candy...
LOL the DNCKA Comedy Store!!
add my voice to the choir of AM Greetings! I don't know the temp and I am too cozy at this moment to care. hehe. Suffice it to say it's cold enough. ;-)
I saw SSssssssssssstreak pass through. Did you miss it? It did bring back some old memories of some rather MEAN things done in the 04 election to my favorite GENERAL also by the Edwards camp. Pissed me off as well. I'm with ya on that Caliban.
on a lighter note; the trolls sure burnt out pretty easy (must be yet another sign of their demise) Like the wicked witch, they are melllllting! (chuckle)
What a proud day for the R. Paul camp.
Nevada Pimp Endorses Paul
LOL Yes Kristen I read that. Just how PROUD must he be???? I guess for his libertarian soul it's probably a GREAT thing?
that was definitely a idiot look on bush's face.of course bush is an idiot. i get so sick of the folk here in East Texas singing his praises. he's an idiot and so is his mom. do you guys remember her standing in the middle of the astrodome and stating"this is a step up for a lot of these people and this is just fine." i was immediately indignant. i heard the other day that it went down as a boo boo for barbara. she certainly is in touch with real folk isn't she? as far as lott goes and all the other bleeding in the senate and bush's cabinet, it makes me wonder if there all little scared that there might be illegal activity dug up when the prez takes over.
