The Immigration Run Around

Mitt and Rudy's ever-evolving positions:
Who would have guessed two years ago that as the 2008 Iowa caucuses and New Hampshire primary hove into view, Mitt Romney and Rudy Giuliani would be leading an effort to turn the 21st-century GOP into a party of anti-immigration Know-Nothings?
Attacking illegal immigration never used to be a priority for either man. Romney ignored the issue when he ran for the Senate in 1994 and for governor of Massachusetts in 2002. In a Boston Globe interview in 2005, he noted that illegal immigrants "contribute in many cases to our economy and to our society." As recently as last year he favored a sensible path to legalization for most undocumented immigrants in the United States.

To give them drivers lisence is too dangerous for Illegil immigrants coming into the country from the mideast or that are already here. Lets register them and give them a picture ID as an illegil immigrant. Also, put on the card whether they can speak english. We could deport the ones that aren't carrying their weight.
The federal govenment MUST secure the border. It is the most basic of responsibilities.
I have a solution for the illegal immigration problem and the shortage of military personnel problem: when you find illegal aliens, DRAFT THEM INTO THE ARMY. When they start hearing back home that we are shipping the illegals aliens off to Iraq, they will stay home. It isn't like deportation (when we give the drug dealers a free ride home so that they can bring more heroin to America). There was a guy on the news last night who had been deported repeatedly, and he just keeps coming back: put that fellow in the Army, and we can keep track of him and make him invade someone else's country he's certainly proved his ability to compromise the borders of the greatest nation in the world, make the weasel work for us. Offer them full citizenship after 5 years in the Army, if that makes you feel better.
