The following internet article caught my attention today.

http://www.boston.com/news/nation/articles/2007/12/26/huckabee_hunts_birds_votes_in_heartland/

There are some "weird" comments by Huckabee in the article such as claiming that the dead birds he shot in the bird hunt "gave their lives for his campaign"....

The Bush, Cheney, Huckabee and Romney style is promoting and pandering gun ideology to manipulate and control voters/votes.

I am a liberal Democrat, I own guns, I am a responsible gun owner, and I know how to hunt. I am personally not impressed by the gun-toting ad campaigns of the aforementioned Republican candidates. Wow, Cheney even put some buckshot into his hunting partner a couple of years ago.

Why is it that the Repulican Red State crowd present themselves as the only hunters in the United States? Their only grassroots conservation strategy is containing enough wilderness and farmland to be photographed and identified as wild bird and game hunters. If I recall correctlly, they jumped all over Senator Kerry during the 2004 Presidential campaign when he when duck hunting in Ohio.

Lastly, besides the strange comments in the above referenced article, would someone in the Democratic Party, when the time is right, platform
environmental coservation in the United States and at the same time break through the Red State Huckabee, et al. mentality that they are the only ones who carry guns and hunt, and prevent vote pandering in the Red States with this type of issue. Guns, conservation, and hunting are not incompatible for the Democrats.

And Elvis got his badge. Good for him. When he gave that serviceman coming back from Vietnam their whole $500 dollars in cash, he deserved one.

Listen to the interview. It's an insight into a different "bubble" world. No wonder Nixon invited him over and let Elvis run the show. At that level there is no reality unless you decide there is.

We're lucky the world hasn't be blown up before now in this nuclear age. What was Jesus thinking allowing these people have WMD. The last thing Huckabee or Romney needs is a button to push.

Hope that doesn't mean that Elvis was a Republican, i.e. for visiting with Nixon! that will ruin his image for me! ;0

EGConnecticut:

The Republicans, with the aid of wealthy benefactors , set up think tanks 40 years ago, and started their campaign to Frame the issues. One of their sucessful ones was that Democrats wanted to take away everyone's guns. That has NEVER been the intent, and never will be. This drove a lot of gun owners over to the Republican Party, which was their goal. Because Democrats want gun controls (checking out past records on sale of guns, type of guns sold to the Average american who claims he wants to hunt with a Uzzi, bullets that pierce body armor, Gun show sales to anyone off the street) they continue to point out that Dems want to infringe on some questionable right under second amendment which was given at a time when a militia might be necessary. So it is up to Democrats to RE-frame this issue and correct the assumption that guns will be taken away should they get in office. We have learned there are a lot of naive, gullible people out there, who need to be taught the truth.

Michael,

I am not sure why you would think that this video interview about Elvis Presley is relevant to getting Democrats elected in 2008.

Note: Elvis Presley died 30 years ago. The poor man had a tortured soul, had addictive behavior and abused his body. He lived in a self-imposed judgmental prison he created of his own religious guilt and fear. The Washington DC politicians and pundits need to allow him to rest in peace.

srowe,

This is a weekly feature that highlights some video from the past. Not every post I put up has to be about 2008. It's certainly the focus on this blog, but if that was everything, I think it'd get boring.

I prefer to mix it up a bit. Try to appreciate it for what it is.

If I was talking to the future American president today I would give him/her this calendar and wish him/her all the luck in the future. Conversations with Gore Bear and Bush Bear Calendar 2008 is a calendar that is designed to remind all of us that lies do not hold over time in our democratic precess. The democratic process has within it a built in valve that releases truth over time. This valve is called the freedom of speech. I would urge the future American President to study each month of this 13 month calendar carefully and commit to selecting advisors who naturally tell the truth at all times. This holds especially with the Science Advisor he/ she will select in the 2008 election year. To view this calendar go to StarChild Science web site.
Thanking you
