Thanks, Michael !
a Happy New Year to you ! May the year 2008 bring the country and the government back to the Democrats !
Isaiah 43:16 and 18-19
This is what the Lord says, "Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the desert and streams in the wasteland."
Thoughts on today's verse
The year is gone, finished, past. We cannot reclaim it or undo it. We cannot rest on the things it has brought us. If tomorrow dawns, it will be another day, a new opportunity, and the time to show our faith in Jesus as Lord. Let's journey forward, knowing that God already inhabits the future and promises to provide us refreshment.
Told ya it was a good one. ;p
It's another Bella Day!
Enjoy yours, everyone.

2007 deadliest for US troops in Iraq
The year was the deadliest for the U.S. military since the 2003 invasion, with 899 troops killed.
American commanders and diplomats, however, say the battlefield gains against insurgents such as al-Qaida in Iraq offer only a partial picture of where the country stands as the war moves toward its five-year mark in March.
Two critical shifts that boosted U.S.-led forces in 2007 — a self-imposed cease-fire by a main Shiite militia and a grassroots Sunni revolt against extremists — could still unravel unless serious unity efforts are made by the Iraqi government.
Iran also remains a major wild card. U.S. officials believe the neighboring country has helped quiet Iraq by reducing its flow of suspected aid to Shiite fighters, including materials needed for deadly roadside bombs.
But Iran's apparent hands-off policies could come under strain as Shiite factions — some favoring Iran, others not — battle for control of Iraq's oil-rich south.
The Pentagon, meanwhile, will increasingly look to the uneven Iraqi security forces to carry the load in 2008 as demands for an American exit strategy grow sharper during the U.S. election year.
Britain, the main U.S. coalition partner in Iraq, is gradually drawing down its forces and other allies, including Poland and Australia, are contemplating full-scale withdrawals

Betcha this will play real well, with Jews, Buddhists, Muslims, and other religions and people who believe in Separation of Religion and State. Funny, Huckabee missed all those History lessons which showed that the Forefathers fought against this kind of Theocracy!
"The purpose of Separation of State and Church is to keep forever from these shores the ceasless strife that has soaked the soil of Europe in blood for Centuries. James Madison
"Mike Huckabee, a Republican relying on support from religious conservatives in Thursday's hard-fought presidential caucuses, on Sunday stood by a decade-old comment in which he said, "I hope we answer the alarm clock and take this nation back for Christ."

It is about time!
Now to educate voters on procedure. I helped fill out Absentee ballots while working on the Mayoral campaign at the pizza suppers we held. Unfortunetly, for the elderly and others in Assisted living, it is not an easy process. ( I got to vote lots of times. j/k ;0 )

I have a prediction, but can't post it out loud.
Remember, I said he is a sleeper.
Most everyday people are searching for someone to get us out of this godless government. by that I mean, w, dick & his henchmen. (that includes condi) They may not see it as replacing twiddle dee with twiddle dumb.
He answered why he stated "I hope we answer the alarm clock and take this nation back for Christ." He said he was at a Baptist convention, where such a speech would be welcomed, and it was in the right context.
I watched him & Sen. Obama on MTP. I kept an open mind and heart. I pick up on things that way.
Now, I'm done with my internet reading for the morning. It's been wonderful to share it with you all.
Good morning, all.

Essie,
What a great verse for the day. Makes you believe all things are possible.
Most everyday people are searching for someone to get us out of this godless government. by that I mean, w, dick & his henchmen. (that includes condi) They may not see it as replacing twiddle dee with twiddle dumb.
I have to disagree, Jacq. I think there are a lot of people who are fed up with a President who says he takes his orders from God. Huckabee's Fundie religious views are not agreeable to a lot of people, outside of the current Evangelical Religious Right.
He may have said he made that comment at a Christian meeting, but he says he is sticking by it, which means, he hopes to do Lots of Mixing of Jesus into office should he make it.
There are lots of Christians who are Open Minded and see the dangers of Religion in politics. That is not what this country was meant to portray. (and those early forefathers were a lot more religious than our current population, yet saw the dangers of it.)

Pam,
I'm pretty sure The Huckster win our state primary unless Romney buys everybody's vote (which seems to be his strategy now).
The Republicans are going all religious this time around...again. Talk is that our GOP Governor wants to add an abortion amendment to the ballot to bolster his sagging support in traditional Republican strongholds.
He cut back so hard on Medicaid and closed so many clinics in rural areas...and then tried to add it all back in so sort of bastardized Republican form...that the locals have had enough of his hypocritical compassionate conservatism.
I really am not surprised. Little Goodie Two Shoes already issued an edit to outlaw driver's licenses for illegals when there was a law on the books already against it. Apparently, his totally incompetent staff didn't bother to research the issue before sending him on a whirwind, week-long tour around the state that made him look like a complete idiot...which he is.
When all else fails to fool voters, the GOP always brings forth the wedge issue. But I think we are ready for them this time with a few things of our own to entice voters.
later.

add in the number of private security (aka mercenary) and contractor deaths and i wonder t=wha the real number would be?
If you add the number of military troops and the number of mercs in Iraq together, what do you get? Over 400,000 and we still can not really stabalise the country? If it were not for al-Sadr's cease fire, it would be as bad as ever. And will be again. Let's get our kids out of there. NOW!
It appears that the trolls from last night got flushed. Thank you Michael!
I could stay here all day and recount all the mistakes the infantile drug store cowboy has made in foreign policy. Sandy, this latest polling shows Edwards and Romney on the top side right now, this minute, but who knows what tomorrow will bring? This country is not ready for an Evangelical President, who cries a good game, but does not really know what WWJD means ! They have already stuck the anti gay marrriage question on the ballot in FL. No No No to this new push for unity and bipartisanship. It is just another way of saying let's give the power back to the Republicans.
I think you can not compromise with extremists. I know someone named Howard Dean who said that in 2004. I don't hear it anymore, but I feel that way still. If you compromise with extremists they win.
From Dean's book in 2004:
"We don't need to march in lockstep on every vote. But on critical votes that touch on our key issues, Democrats can not abandon their core values. The history of the twentieth century teaches that we must never compromise with extremists."

Truck Bomb Kills 12 in Iraq
A suicide bomber drove a truck rigged with explosives into a checkpoint manned by members of a U.S.-backed security volunteer group in a town north of Baghdad on Monday, killing at least 12 people, police and a member of the volunteer group said. In a separate attack, a female suicide bomber detonated herself near a police patrol, wounding five policemen and four civilians in the town of Baqouba, 35 miles northeast of Baghdad, said police Brigadier Khudeir al-Tamimi.

A 'Must Read' Editorial in today's NYT.
These are not the only shocking abuses of President Bush’s two terms in office, made in the name of fighting terrorism. There is much more — so much that the next president will have a full agenda simply discovering all the wrongs that have been done and then righting them.We can only hope that this time, unlike 2004, American voters will have the wisdom to grant the awesome powers of the presidency to someone who has the integrity, principle and decency to use them honorably. Then when we look in the mirror as a nation, we will see, once again, the reflection of the United States of America.
What does this say about America's committment to the occupation? To our soldiers?

This year at my precinct caucus (MN SD Dist #32, 1st precinct), I will be proposing a resolution which will basically state that our number 1 platform issue, an issue in which all other issues (the economy, tax policy, farming, transportation, energy, national defense, etc.) must take into consideration going forward is global climate change. We, as a world leader, must take decisive actions immediately and use all our considerable economic influence to convince the rest of the world to join us. If we don't move on this now, all other issues will be moot, as our very survival as a people will be at stake. I do not believe I am overstating the case. Brian Kujawa
You know, I’ve studied history, I’ve read about America and you know something, if it weren’t for liberals, we’d be living in a dark, evil country, far worse than anything Bush could conjure up. A world where children were told to piss on the side of the road because they weren’t fit to pee in a white outhouse, where women had to get back alley abortions and where rape was a joke, unless the alleged criminal was black, whereupon he was hung from a tree and castrated.
What has conservatism given America? A stable social order? A peaceful homelife? Respect for law and order? No. Hell, no. It hasn’t given us anything we didn’t have and it wants to take away our freedoms.

Good afternoon and Happy New Years:
2007 Deadliest Year For U.S. Troops In Iraq Hotlist
by BarbinMD
Mon Dec 31, 2007 at 08:26:58 AM PST
Four years and eight months after the mission was accomplished in Iraq, 2007 ends as:
...the deadliest for the U.S. military since the 2003 invasion, with 899 troops killed.
But apparently this is good news, since fatalities have decreased in recent months, with only 21 U.S. troops and 710 Iraqi civilians killed in December. This brings the total U.S. fatalities for Bush's fiasco to 3,902. And the Iraqis, now that someone has decided to count their deaths?
For the year, 18,610 Iraqis were killed. In 2006, the only other full year an AP count has been tallied, 13,813 civilians were killed.
It's not quite clear how you can have nearly 5,000 more deaths this year than last, while:
Iraqi civilian deaths have tracked that decline and overall violence across the country is down roughly 60 percent...
...but who are we to argue with success?
And while crediting George Bush's escalation of troops for all of this progress, the article fails to mention that the stated purpose of his, "surge," has failed, with the political benchmarks, once vital for success in Iraq, long forgotten. But if we keep our fingers crossed, and if three former and current declared enemies of the United States cooperate, 2008 can be just as successful. All we need is for Muqtada al-Sadr to continue to rein in his 10,000 strong Mahdi Army, for Iran to continue to lessen their aid to Shiite extremists, and for 56,000 former Sunni insurgents to find a job.
Of the more than 70,000 fighters in the awakening councils, only 20 percent are expected to be absorbed into the Iraqi security forces. The rest are to receive job training through a joint $300 million program Iraqi and American officials are creating.
That program is in its beginning stages and there are few details about how it will be carried out, but analysts say it must succeed or the Sunni fighters who do not join Iraq's military may sell their services to the insurgents.
They're now in the process of creating a plan that, "must succeed"? Shades of the Bush administration's plans for postwar Iraq.
You can almost taste victory, can't you?
=================================================
There is no victory in Iraq or success in Iraq. Being bogged down in a country while spending 12 billion per month of the taxpayer dollars is no victory.
From the article posted above:
It was the liberals who opposed the Nazis while the conservatives were plotting to get their brown shirts or fund Hitler. It was the liberals who warned about Spain and fought there, who joined the RAF to fight the Germans, who brought democracy to Germany and Japan. Let us not forget it was the conservatives who opposed defending America until the Germans sank our ships. They would have done nothing as Britain came under Nazi control. It was they who supported Joe McCarthy and his baseless, drink fueled claims.
Without liberals, there would be no modern America, just a Nazi sattlelite state. Liberals weak on defense? Liberals created America's defense. The conservatives only need vets at election time.

Having blown the whole "War on Terror" years ago, the supposedly-strong-on-national-security Bush administration has now thrown up its hands and decided to give up on seriously prosecuting the war in Afghanistan. Rather than address the immediate and very real threat posed by the Taliban in Afghanistan and Pakistan, Commander Guy has chosen instead to focus America’s limited military assets on internal gangland warfare in Iraq and on a vague and very distant threat from the nutjob in Iran.

NYT editorial board blasts the Chimpenfuhrer and the conservatives that pump up the obnoxious little dictator:

Editorial
Looking at America
There are too many moments these days when we cannot recognize our country. Sunday was one of them, as we read the account in The Times of how men in some of the most trusted posts in the nation plotted to cover up the torture of prisoners by Central Intelligence Agency interrogators by destroying videotapes of their sickening behavior. It was impossible to see the founding principles of the greatest democracy in the contempt these men and their bosses showed for the Constitution, the rule of law and human decency.
It was not the first time in recent years we’ve felt this horror, this sorrowful sense of estrangement, not nearly. This sort of lawless behavior has become standard practice since Sept. 11, 2001.
The country and much of the world was rightly and profoundly frightened by the single-minded hatred and ingenuity displayed by this new enemy. But there is no excuse for how President Bush and his advisers panicked — how they forgot that it is their responsibility to protect American lives and American ideals, that there really is no safety for Americans or their country when those ideals are sacrificed.
Out of panic and ideology, President Bush squandered America’s position of moral and political leadership, swept aside international institutions and treaties, sullied America’s global image, and trampled on the constitutional pillars that have supported our democracy through the most terrifying and challenging times. These policies have fed the world’s anger and alienation and have not made any of us safer.
In the years since 9/11, we have seen American soldiers abuse, sexually humiliate, torment and murder prisoners in Afghanistan and Iraq. A few have been punished, but their leaders have never been called to account. We have seen mercenaries gun down Iraqi civilians with no fear of prosecution. We have seen the president, sworn to defend the Constitution, turn his powers on his own citizens, authorizing the intelligence agencies to spy on Americans, wiretapping phones and intercepting international e-mail messages without a warrant.

If you don't study history, you're destined to repeat it. And if you don’t study history, you don’t see how this same war thinking has been repeated over and over and over....
Hi all, it has been quite awhile since I've been here. I hope that since I have not been in here lately, that some of you discount my post on the assumption I quit caring.
I am very deeply involved in helping a Hispanic organization that believes teaching the children how to quickly transition from Spanish to English will help resolve those kids from dropping out of school. Btw, I'm not Hispanic.
I wanted to share with you that about a month ago, I had sent feedback to Dennis Moore, 3rd District, Kansas Democrat, that I, for one, did NOT want us invading Iran or starting trouble with them.
I got back the following answer, which is again naive thinking on this Democrat's part to think Iran sanctions is going to cause a country to be brow beaten into submission by a bully such as Bush. I won't put the entire 3-page letter here; just Moore's response:
I find Iran's refusal to disclose details about its nuclear program and the statements made by President Ahmadinejad unfortunate and disheartening. For this reason, I have joined with my House colleagues in voting in favor of H.Con.Res. 341, which was approved by a vote of 404-4 on Feb. 16th, 2006...Additionally, I also have recently voted in favor of H.R.282, the Iran Freedom Support Act, which the House approved by a vote of 397-21 on April 26th, 2006. This measure, which I also cosponsored, strengthens U.S. sanctions on Iran and requires that they remain in place until Iran has dismantled its chemical, biological and nuclear weapons programs...."
Ok, I realize that's old news, but I did not vote nor go out to get others to vote, so we could create yet another enemy. I thought getting a Democratic Congress would mean that within a short few months, we'd be OUT OF IRAQ. Period.
A few weeks ago, I read a post from a person (don't remember who it was and can't find the blog now) about his conversation with a friend of his who is Iranian and lives in Tehran. He had asked his friend how it was going over there in Iran with all this hoopla from Bush. The guy had responded that he hadn't had much time to think about it. He worked all day at his regular job, then sold stuff at a market in the evening, and took on part-time jobs in order to make ends meet for his family. [This sounds like most Americans' daily lives, don't you think?]
The Iranian family man did say that there were a lot of jokes everyone tells about Bush. [Again, this goes on here a lot, too.]
Those people are not looking for war. They're just living out their daily lives trying to make a living just like we are...just like the Iraqis WERE.
I'm so discouraged that the Democratic congress we voted in so they would get us OUT OF IRAQ are now gullible enough to once again buy into the BS from Bush.
Of course, the President of Iran is going to show his strength that no idiot like Bush is going to push him around. That doesn't mean he wants to start a war. And as far as atomic energy, they have as much right to increase their energy capabilities as we already have. And don't think they fool themselves into thinking we have put all our nukes away. As underhanded and dirty as our leadership has been, I am sure there are still nukes hiding in this country.
So here's a little analogy to show what I see in this situation with Iran or any country. I'm currently living next door to a woman who is a very kind, hard-working black woman. She has always been friendly with us, and my mother has shared her baking with a lot of the neighbors including this lady.
Recently her husband came home from being in jail! Didn't know about this until after we moved here, but ok...work with it, right?
Sure enough, he starts looking for reasons to bring his unsettled mind issues onto whoever is nearest. He threw a big fit that our cottonwood tree was slightly hanging over the invisible line between our properties. He came over several times knocking on our door and raising hell. He started trying to recruit neighbors to join in on picking on us. [Did I mention we are a minority in this neighborhood?] Most just ignored him.
But here's my point. We prepared ourselves to deal with this idiot because he was "rattling his saber" and trying to start trouble we didn't want. Yet, we aren't going to be bullied by him either.
A strong leader of any country is not going to buckle and bow to some idiot trying to start crap with them. NO ONE wants to ruin this planet with nukes.
Leave Iran alone. It's none of our business. How can we get a Democratic Congress to wake up when even writing local members is met with blockheaded responses such as I got from Dennis Moore?
And I voted for him!
I hope that since I have not been in here lately, that some of you discount my post on the assumption I quit caring.
Oops. That was supposed to read, "...that some of you DON'T discount my post.....
Now that the republican prince has been deprived of recess, do you think he'll be cranky?
WASHINGTON (CNN) -- In one of the shortest session in its history, the Senate's final session of the year lasted a total of 12 seconds Monday.
Only one senator, Democrat Jack Reed of Rhode Island, was in the chamber to gavel open the Senate and adjourn it until January 3.
Monday's event was the latest in a series of "pro forma" sessions the Senate has called. Pro forma means "for the sake of formality" and these micro sessions are part of the last political scuffle between the White House and the Democratic-led Congress.
Democrats are keeping the Senate in session to block President Bush from making any recess appointments. During congressional recesses, a constitutional mechanism allows the president to fill top government posts for up to one year without Senate confirmation.

Comment Trolling Has A Psychological Explanation
Comments trolls are the bane of most sites; where as the vast majority of people may never comment on a post those that do usually fall into one of three categories.
Legitimate commenters, who have something thoughtful to say and/or add to the conversation (for and against), link spammers who comment on the off chance they might get some traffic as a consequence of their comment (sometimes these fall into the first category..hard to tell) and trolls, who make it their business to criticize anything written and the people who wrote it, in some sort of sad attempt at self validation by being nasty towards others for the sake of it. Like taking drugs, trolling is a poor mistress that demands more and more to feed the self satisfying addiction that props up their self esteem.
New Scientist has a psychological explanation for poor behavior online. Whilst the post talks mainly about email, NewScientist draws the relationship between this and comment trolls. You can read the whole post here http://www.newscientist.com/blog/technology/2007/11/dont-flame-me-bro.html
but here are some highlights:
Social psychologists have known for decades that, if we reduce our sense of our own identity – a process called deindividuation – we are less likely to stick to social norms…the same thing happens with online communication such as email. Then why did the NYT give Bill Kristol a platform from which to keep lying to people? Integrity is hard to come by these days.

Preaching to the choir, my friend. Trouble is, that for some unexplained reason, our Dem leaders do not hear enough from the majority of Americans who have been shown to be firmly against any other stupid invasions, including Iran. Apparently, they only hear from the loudmouthed minority who wish to nuke everything that doesn't look like, or sound like, an American.
We need to reach them and shake some sense into them....or vote them out. Whichever comes first.

Blue,
Shame is always lurking at the back of our minds since this invasion was exposed as a lie.
I don't care how jaded some folks can be. All Americans are inwardly angry with how the troops were called to serve time and time again in Iraq without adequate equipment and it was all based on a pack of lies.
Bread and butter issues must be addressed by citizens because they are immediate. But questions of deceit and greed nag away at the conscience and will not be forgotten when Americans vote in November.
Honor still remains among the ashes of what the Republicans have done to this country.

Social psychologists have known for decades that, if we reduce our sense of our own identity – a process called deindividuation – we are less likely to stick to social norms…the same thing happens with online communication such as email. Psychologically, we are “distant” from the person we’re talking to and less focused on our own identity. As a result we’re more prone to aggressive behavior, he says.

You are so right. I think in my response back to this guy, I will include your comments as well. I want this guy to realize I am not the only Dem who is disgusted with their misinterpretation or downright sell-out regarding staying OUT of war.
Does anyone here want to add comments on their feelings about the Dem Congress ignoring us? I'll include everyone in my response.
Thanks!

I would suggest including recent polls that clearly show that Americans do not support our government's actions in Iraq or the thought of any action against Iran.
Perhaps it is because they are so time-constrained that they tend to live life in a bubble, only finding out about how Americans are feeling from their "advisors".

rj,
Rumsfeld didn't anticipate that Saddam would open the jails and let out all the murderers when we marched into Iraq. And he stood by and watched them loot and rape.
If this is the vision of democracy that Bush has for the rest of the Middle East, I doubt it will ever become popular no matter how much of our taxpayer money he throws at it or how many soldiers he sends there.
The worst part is that this is also the vision of freedom and justice that the GOP has for our own country.
Forcing citzens to ignore the needs of the community and only look out for themselves destroys the vitality of a people. And selling out one's future to foreign interests in not in the best interests of any republic.
Yet that is the state of affairs in the United States today as we enter this election year.
Our Democratic candidates are mapping out a new course for the nation that will bring us out into the sunshine again. The Republicans are hiding away in public restrooms swearing they have nothing to hide or to be ashamed of.
We all know better.

Oh no, don't you know those republicans have all been "reborn"? Every four years they find the Lord and cast out their evil ways. Even McCain has picked up a Bible and now has a preacher's hand up his backside to control his every word.
Trouble is, once they get elected they lose the Lord and start worshiping the almighty dollar once again. Maybe we should provide all the republicans with a GPS for their Bibles.
And I voted for him!

This GOP religious act is getting a little old. Nothing they have done in the past 30 years is Christian as far as I'm concerned.
If they are really that religious perhaps they should go on a retreat and trek into the desert for 40 days and nights till they get the devil out of their system?

If most Americans had spent any time studying history they would have never supported an invasion of a country that never attacked us. The past would have told them that a nation that attacks another sovereign nation for the sole purpose of changing its idealogy will always lose in the end.
Trouble is, many Americans were scared out of their wits by the lies told by the republicans. Some, likely, are still cowering under their beds with duct tape and bottled water by their ever-quaking side.
The past would have told them that a nation that attacks another sovereign nation for the sole purpose of changing its idealogy will always lose in the end.
You nailed it on the head. Exactly my point.
And I have friends whom I dearly love, who are very educated and quick-witted [yet right-leaning], who STILL don't get it and STILL buy into the Bush rhetoric. I don't get it. It's like the intellects who bought into Hitler's rhetoric. And these people get to vote, too!
It scares me. I'm thinking we've never had such a war-mongering president whose IQ and evolved thinking is so low. Bad combination!
Radical rightwing keeps the republicans deep in thinking errors:
Yesterday The Times published a highly informative chart laying out the positions of the presidential candidates on major issues. It was, I’d argue, a useful reality check for those who believe that the next president can somehow usher in a new era of bipartisan cooperation. For what the chart made clear was the extent to which Democrats and Republicans live in separate moral and intellectual universes.
On one side, the Democrats are all promising to get out of Iraq and offering strongly progressive policies on taxes, health care and the environment. That’s understandable: the public hates the war, and public opinion seems to be running in a progressive direction.
What seems harder to understand is what’s happening on the other side — the degree to which almost all the Republicans have chosen to align themselves closely with the unpopular policies of an unpopular president. And I’m not just talking about their continuing enthusiasm for the Iraq war. The G.O.P. candidates are equally supportive of Bush economic policies.
All in all, it’s an economic and political environment in which you’d expect Republican politicians, as a sheer matter of calculation, to look for ways to distance themselves from the current administration’s economic policies and record — say, by expressing some concern about rising income gaps and the fraying social safety net.
In fact, however, except for Mike Huckabee — a peculiar case who’ll deserve more discussion if he stays in contention — the leading Republican contenders have gone out of their way to assure voters that they will not deviate an inch from the Bush path. Why? Because the G.O.P. is still controlled by a conservative movement that does not tolerate deviations from tax-cutting, free-market, greed-is-good orthodoxy.

One would think that Vietnam would still have been fresh enough in American leader's minds that they would chosen to engage in their war on terrorism is such a way that it did not become an endless war. Did you know the US added a 500 acre foreign base on the horn of Africa called CAMP LEMONIER in the tiny African nation of Djibouti? It began when the US took over a 45 acre French base. Djibouti sits between Sudan (think Dufar) and Somalia (think Black Hawk Down) and is a terrorism intelligence and special operations base.

I look for a candidate who exhibits intellectual curiosity, which is clearly not evident in our current president or any of the republican candidates. The republican candidates appear to be campaigning for a seat at the right hand of God, not for a chance to serve America. Yet, ironically, their campaign efforts to the Big Guy will likely only land them "cuts" in line to Hell. Who would Jesus Bomb (next)?, indeed.
Blue, I read an article not long ago, that said, as soon as a Presidential candidate is finally chosen by the Reds, that we will see a sudden reversal in philosphy in the rest of the Repugs. They will pay attention to the majority of Americans who want us out of Iraq, who are dissatisfied with the economy and rising debt, etc, in hopes of winning the General Election plus save some Senatorial seats !
Fat Chance ! They have waited too long and rubber stamped too much Bush bull crap !
What does this say about America's committment to the occupation? To our soldiers?(AP) - WASHINGTON-Americans' worries at home pushed ahead of the war in Iraq over the past month, a shift toward pocketbook issues that has gained currency as the election year dawns.
The covert plan is to keep us all distracted trying to survive the economy and to keep each ethnic group fighting each other so we don't notice the big picture of what Bush and Dick are doing to the world.
By the way, did you know that Bush ancestors, including Rockefeller and other high monied Americans, did business with the Nazi's during WWII? No wonder the Bush family were so adamant to keep Kitty Kelly from gathering information for her book—even preventing her from getting a birthday. And she didn't get as far as another journalist did.

Morallity cannot get between this new breed of republican and a dollar bill. Chainee's business interests also have dallied with those that are America's "enemies".
Here is a Pro for Edwards !
Edwards Comes Out on Top on the Economy
The three leading Democratic presidential candidates have taken remarkably similar positions on major economic issues. There are few major differences in their public stances on taxes, health care, and trade. Insofar as it is possible to identify differences between Hillary Clinton, John Edwards and Barack Obama, it is primarily due to judgments about their level of commitment and the powers to whom they will answer.
On taxes, all three candidates have said they want the wealthy to pay a larger portion of the bill, which starts with taking back the Bush tax cuts on families earning more than $200,000 a year. All three have proposed eliminating various loopholes that primarily benefit the wealthy. John Edwards has gone the furthest in this respect, calling for raising the capital gains tax rate back to the pre-Clinton level of 28 percent. This tax increase almost exclusively affects the wealthy. Most of the capital gains earned by middle class families are either from selling their home, which is generally not taxed, or in retirement accounts that are subject to normal income tax rates.
All three contenders have said that they want to break with the Bush-Clinton-Bush trade agenda. Since recent trade deals like NAFTA and CAFTA are hugely unpopular, especially among Democrats, this position is not surprising. What their position means in practice remains to be seen. For example, in spite of her newfound opposition to these trade deals, Senator Clinton found the time to vote for the recent Peru trade pact, which is largely in the NAFTA/CAFTA mode.
As a practical matter, the country has already gone about as far as it can in placing its manufacturing workers in competition with low-wage workers in the developing world. The impact of any future trade deals on the US economy will be almost imperceptible. A decline of the dollar by an additional 10 percent against the currencies of our trading partners would swamp the impact of all currently pending trade deals.
On this issue there could be substantial differences among the candidates. Former Treasury Secretary Robert Rubin is likely to be the guiding light for economic policy in a Clinton or Obama administration. Rubin was the architect of the high dollar policy of the 90s that led to the massive trade deficits of recent years. He remains an enthusiastic supporter of a high dollar. Therefore Clinton or Obama would be more likely than Edwards to sacrifice the jobs and wages of manufacturing workers in order to prop up the dollar.
In short, Edwards has set himself apart from the other two top candidates by indicating a clear willingness to challenge an agenda set on Wall Street. If a President Edwards actually carried through with this course, he would pursue a very different economic agenda than his two leading rivals

I enjoy history much more now than I did when I was in school. Maybe because of my future, and the future of my daughters, and now my granddaughters future. This one is just for you:
Hebrews 12:10-11
Our fathers disciplined us for a little while as they thought best; but God disciplines us for our good, that we may share in his holiness. No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful. Later on, however, it produces a harvest of righteousness and peace for those who have been trained by it.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Here are a few more verses that are hope for the future:
Jeremiah 29:11
"For I know the plans I have for you," says the LORD. "They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.
Philippians 3:13-14
No, dear brothers and sisters, I am still not all I should be, but I am focusing all my energies on this one thing: Forgetting the past and looking forward to what lies ahead, I strain to reach the end of the race and receive the prize for which God, through Christ Jesus, is calling us up to heaven
Ecclesiastes 3:11
He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the hearts of men; yet they cannot fathom what God has done from beginning to end.
This one is one of my all time favorites!
Isaiah 40:31
Yet those who wait for the LORD will gain new strength; they will mount up with wings like eagles, they will run and not get tired, they will walk and not become weary.
Military Paper Challenges Defense Department
By Sarah Abruzzese
The New York Times
Washington - Top editors at the military newspaper Stars and Stripes are asking for full disclosure of the paper's relationship with a Department of Defense publicity program, called America Supports You, after disclosures that money for the program was funneled through the newspaper.
"This is not how an editorially independent newspaper should conduct itself," the executive editor, Robb Grindstaff, and managing editor, Doug Clawson, said in a Dec. 8 letter to Mr. Lederer and Ms. Barber, and copied to the secretary of defense. The letter added that the refusal to release information was damaging morale on the editorial side of the paper.
"The integrity and credibility of both Stars and Stripes and the D.O.D. public affairs department with our audience is negatively impacted by this continuing scenario," Mr. Grindstaff and Mr. Clawson wrote
You got friends, relatives, neighbors in the Military? MAKE SURE they know about this ! Tell them they must vote Democratic next time to get the benefits due them!
How much does George Bush hate the troops?
Enough to lie to them and slap them in the face. Twice just this week
That was Bush's "Statement of Administration Policy" on H.R. 1585, the "National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2008," the bill that contained the authorization for that pay raise.
Bush, December 28, 2007:
I am withholding my approval of H.R. 1585, the "National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2008," because it would imperil billions of dollars of Iraqi assets at a crucial juncture in that nation's reconstruction efforts and because it would undermine the foreign policy and commercial interests of the United States.
[...]
The adjournment of the Congress has prevented my return of H.R. 1585 within the meaning of Article I, section 7, clause 2 of the Constitution. Accordingly, my withholding of approval from the bill precludes its becoming law. The Pocket Veto Case, 279 U.S. 655 (1929). In addition to withholding my signature and thereby invoking my constitutional power to "pocket veto" bills during an adjournment of the Congress, I am also sending H.R. 1585 to the Clerk of the House of Representatives, along with this memorandum setting forth my objections, to avoid unnecessary litigation about the non-enactment of the bill that results from my withholding approval and to leave no doubt that the bill is being vetoed.
And why was he vetoing authority for a pay raise for the troops, again?
To block the enactment of a provision in the bill that allowed former American prisoners of war held by the Saddam Hussein regime to recover damages for the torture they say they endured while serving under arms for the United States.
Bush is vetoing the military pay raise in order to keep American POWs who were tortured from recovering for their injuries.
Forget for a moment that he's trampling on the Constitution to do it. Forget asking how much more of this the Congress can take.
How much more "support" like this can the troops take?
look like Gomer Huckabee may be on a slide downward !
DES MOINES — Since becoming the Iowa front-runner, Mike Huckabee has been subjected to a month-long siege of media scrutiny and mostly unanswered attacks from his top rival — an onslaught that any presidential hopeful would be hard-pressed to survive.
Huckabee has found himself under the unforgiving glare of the front-runner’s spotlight, and his hopes to win here have now become severely threatened by it.
Although Huckabee remains in the lead in most public polling — and the GOP race is so fluid as to make predictions suicidal — Politico has learned that Mitt Romney’s latest internal polling shows the former Massachusetts governor has narrowed the gap significantly and is now in a virtual tie with Huckabee.
Huckabee’s slide can be explained by a series of inter-related factors. His rise came right as the media began to closely cover the campaign, he and his undermanned campaign organization have been ill-prepared to push back against broadsides from both the media and Romney, and his positions and rhetoric have drawn the enmity of a constellation of groups within the conservative establishment
Seeing as how it was passed by both the House and the Senate, I think it's pretty much guaranteed that a Dem president won't veto it.
There's no guarantee that the world won't end at midnight but you still made plans for tomorrow, didn't you? A Dem president would be very unlikely to have any allegiance to Cheney's stock portfolio at the expense of the Military.
So, yeah. I think a Dem President would not veto that Bill.
Off for a trip Downtown. See y'all next year.
HAPPY NEW YEAR!
Can you garantee that?
What i CAN guarantee, is the electing of a REPUBLICAN President will NOT GET them their benefits, nor will they recover the rest of what they have lost under this administration and the horrendous condition of VA hospitals around the country. A Republican President will be more likely to take us into other illegal invasions where we do not belong. A Republican President will be a continuation of the same ole, same ole.
Why you hate america more than George Bush is mind boggling !
Looking at America
There are too many moments these days when we cannot recognize our country. Sunday was one of them, as we read the account in The Times of how men in some of the most trusted posts in the nation plotted to cover up the torture of prisoners by Central Intelligence Agency interrogators by destroying videotapes of their sickening behavior. It was impossible to see the founding principles of the greatest democracy in the contempt these men and their bosses showed for the Constitution, the rule of law and human decency.
Out of panic and ideology, President Bush squandered America’s position of moral and political leadership, swept aside international institutions and treaties, sullied America’s global image, and trampled on the constitutional pillars that have supported our democracy through the most terrifying and challenging times. These policies have fed the world’s anger and alienation and have not made any of us safer.
These are not the only shocking abuses of President Bush’s two terms in office, made in the name of fighting terrorism. There is much more — so much that the next president will have a full agenda simply discovering all the wrongs that have been done and then righting them.
We can only hope that this time, unlike 2004, American voters will have the wisdom to grant the awesome powers of the presidency to someone who has the integrity, principle and decency to use them honorably. Then when we look in the mirror as a nation, we will see, once again, the reflection of the United States of America.
As president, John Edwards will:
• Fully Fund Veterans Health Care: The VA has already seen over 200,000 veterans from Iraq and Afghanistan. We must do everything we can to properly care for these brave men and women and help them get timely access to care by fully funding veterans' health care. Edwards is committed to providing the funding the VA needs to care for those who have sacrificed for the rest of us. [Washington Post, 10/13/06; DVA, 2007; VFW 2007]
• Prevent Another Walter Reed: John Edwards is committed to helping the military medical establishment continue to deliver the best quality medicine in the world by properly funding all aspects of medical care, including maintaining the facilities and expediting boards and dispositions of the injured service members. As president, he will order a stem-to-stern review of military hospitals to ensure that our service members are getting the excellent care they deserve. He will also reject the Bush Administration's ideological drive to outsource federal jobs; a questionable decision to hire contractors to manage Walter Reed facilities contributed to the shocking conditions there. [Mattera, 2007]
• Dedicate Resources to the Signature Injuries of Today's Wounded Warriors: The VA's prosthetics programs and polytrauma centers need increased resources. Traumatic brain injuries have been described by the Veterans of Foreign Wars as the "signature wound of this war." Rather than addressing these problems, the Bush Administration is pretending they don't exist. As president, Edwards will increase the research and treatment of these injuries and the conditions that follow from them. [VFW, 2007]
• Provide a "Plan for Coming Home" for Every Service Man and Woman: As a nation, America did not deal well with the care and reintegration of veterans after the Vietnam War, leaving thousands of veterans without the care they desperately needed. We need to admit our mistakes and learn from them. As president, Edwards will require that all service members returning to the U.S. or leaving the military be provided with a new "Homefront Redeployment Plan," including thorough PTSD screenings, benefits information and seamless transfer of medical records. [VFA, 2007; PAV, 2007]
• Create a National "Chain of Care," with Improved Treatment of PTSD: Once our service members become veterans, we have to make sure the system doesn't fail them. As president, Edwards will create a new national chain of care to ensure that no veteran again falls through the cracks. Because many veterans receive treatment outside the VA system, this chain will coordinate treatment and benefits in outreach centers and clinics in every county where a veteran resides, both within and outside the VA network. Edwards will also improve training for health personnel to recognize and treat PTSD; establish uniform standards for mental health care to address the wide range of quality of care; increase counseling resources within TRICARE and VA networks and permit access outside of the networks; and ensure that outreach is extended to family members who can help recognize symptoms. Caring for the newest generation of veterans must be accomplished without neglecting the continuing needs of veterans from previous generations.
Why you hate America more than George Bush is mind boggling!
I have never said that, and you can´t prove that I ever did. If, in your eyes, all republicans hate america then you are no longer in control of yourself.
I think the problem is you don't understand, that sticking up for George Bush and this administration is equivelent to hating the country. Only patriots that love the United States of America defend and try and protect it against all enemies and that includes a government that would destroy it. You give the impression you love Bush more than you love the country. Thus you are no patriot.
May you find some peace in your hearts in the new year. Good night from an expatriate in Taiwan.
Actually, the DNC could sue him for copywrite infringement....IF they put a TM or ©2007 somewhere on any paperwork or signage. It's possible just having used it before the Repukes establishes ownership of that slogan. I'm in advertising and I studied the copywrite laws. It has been quite awhile since I read the copywrite law.
President Asshole cut fuel oil assistance to poor Americans. Joseph Kennedy calls it a crime against humanity. He said that people are accusing him of playing politics.
President Asshole and his gang are the criminals playing politics.
Joseph Kennedy has been playing his ad on CBS saying that the CITGO oil company and the people of Venezuela have been very generous and have again donated fuel oil to poor Americans.
President Asshole can go fuck himself calling people un-American for kissing up to Hugo Chavez. President Asshole is going to go straight to hell when he finally bites the bullet. I hope he has made reservations.
Happy New Year all good Dems. I predict a Democratic landslide in November. If people are not fed up with the cheap bastard appointed president, they will be fully fed up by November.
President Asshole is no doubt looking forward to rooming with Adolf Hitler in hell. They can share stories about their crimes against humanity, war crimes and crimes against peace.
Vice President Asshole is going to room with his buddy ken ley and bin laden.
In this new year, we as a nation must resolve to impeach bush and cheney NOW! before they strike Iran and Venezuela.
I just read where Letterman is going to return on Wednesday. His first guest will be Robin Williams.
The tonight show, which I refuse to watch because it is on nbc is having mike huckabee who wants to return America to Christ. What a fucking loser.
Oh, I wish you wouldn't have posted the link to Dear Mr. Fantasy, I just wasted a lot of time over at youtube with Traffic and Cream and various artists...........Now I've got Pandora playing a set of music based on Traffic in the background.
Which is bizarre to listen to while reading anything related in any way to President AssHat and VP Death Eater.
So, how do you guys choose which poll to follow, because I swear these polls are giving me a giant headache. I'm really pulling for Hillary-- but-- you know that description Yellow Dog Democrat? It's based on southern Dems saying they would vote for a yeller dog if he were on the ballot as a dem. That is exactly how I feel right about now. Hell, I'd vote for my Cocker Spaniel over any of those weirdos the GOP has got running. And, my dog licks his own balls....which is still less freaky than a whole lot of GOPers lately!
It's finally the year we get rid of Bush and Co.
Hooray!!!!!!
good morning. welcome to 2008 the year the receding republican tide races away from the shoreline.
and to start a ny times editorial on a very important subject:
Editorial: In Office
The One Environmental Issue
Published: January 1, 2008
The overriding environmental issue of these times is the warming of the planet. The Democratic hopefuls in the 2008 campaign are fully engaged, calling for large — if still unquantified — national sacrifices and for a transformation in the way the country produces and uses energy. The Republicans do not go much further than conceding that climate change could be a problem and, with the notable exception of John McCain, offer no comprehensive solutions.
In 2000, when Al Gore could have made warming a signature issue in his presidential campaign, his advisers persuaded him that it was too complicated and forbidding an issue to sell to ordinary voters. For similar reasons, John Kerry’s ambitious ideas for addressing climate change and reducing the country’s dependence on foreign oil never advanced much beyond his Web site.
Times have certainly changed. It is not yet clear to what extent Americans are willing to grapple with the implications of any serious strategy to reduce greenhouse gas emissions: more specifically, whether they are ready to pay higher prices for energy and change their lifestyles to reduce their consumption of fossil fuels.
Polls suggest, however, that voters are increasingly alarmed, and for that Mr. Gore is partly responsible. His film, “An Inconvenient Truth,” raised the issue’s profile. Then came four reports from the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, which shared the Nobel Peace Prize with Mr. Gore, predicting catastrophic changes in weather patterns, sea levels and food production unless greenhouses gases can be quickly stabilized and then reduced by as much as 80 percent by midcentury.
There is also a growing appetite for decisive action — everywhere, it seems, except the White House. Governors in more than two dozen states are fashioning regional agreements to lower greenhouse gases, the federal courts have ordered the executive branch to begin regulating these gases, and the Senate has begun work on a bipartisan bill that would reduce emissions by nearly 65 percent by 2050.
Still, the country is a long way from a comprehensive response equal to the challenge. That is what the Democratic candidates are proposing. Senators Joseph Biden, Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama, former Senator John Edwards, Gov. Bill Richardson and Representative Dennis Kucinich have all offered aggressive plans that would go beyond the Senate bill and reduce emissions by 80 percent by midcentury (90 percent in Mr. Richardson’s case), much as called for in the United Nations reports.
These plans would rest primarily on a cap-and-trade scheme that imposes a gradually declining ceiling on emissions and allows power plants, refineries and other emitters to figure out the cheapest way to meet their quotas — either by reducing emissions on their own or by purchasing credits from more efficient producers. The idea is to give companies a clear financial incentive to invest in the new technologies and efficiencies required to create a more carbon-free economy.
None of the Democrats trust the market to do the job by itself. All would make major investments in cleaner fuels and delivery systems, including coal-fired power plants capable of capturing carbon emissions and storing them underground. Every Democrat except Mr. Kucinich says that carbon-free nuclear power has to be part of the mix, although all are careful to say that safety issues and other concerns must first be resolved.
Internationally, the Democrats say they would seek a new global accord on reducing emissions to replace and improve upon the Kyoto Protocol, which expires in 2012. Winning agreement among more than 180 nations will be slow-going, so several candidates, including Mrs. Clinton, have suggested jump-starting the process by bringing together the big emitters like China very early in their administrations. China and the United States together produce about 40 percent of the world’s total emissions and neither has agreed to binding reductions.
The only Republican candidate who comes close to the Democrats with a plan for addressing climate change is John McCain, one of the authentic pioneers on the issue in the Senate. In 2003, along with Joseph Lieberman, Mr. McCain introduced the first Senate bill aimed at mandatory economywide reductions in emissions of 65 percent by midcentury. He also regularly addresses the subject on the campaign trail.
The other leading Republican candidates — Mitt Romney, Rudolph Giuliani, Fred Thompson, Mike Huckabee — talk about energy issues almost exclusively in the context of freeing America from its dependence on foreign oil. All promote nuclear power, embrace energy efficiency and promise greener technologies. Only Mr. Huckabee has dared raise the idea of government regulation, embracing, at least theoretically, the idea of a mandatory cap on emissions. The rest prefer President Bush’s cost-free and demonstrably inadequate voluntary approach, which essentially asks industry to do what it can to reduce emissions.
So far, the Democratic candidates seem more engaged with the issue than some of their interrogators in the news media. In a recent study, the League of Conservation Voters found that as of two weeks ago, the five main political talk-show hosts had collectively asked 2,275 questions of candidates in both parties. Only 24 of the questions even touched on climate change.
One result is that even the candidates who urge comprehensive change have not been pressed on important questions of cost: How do they intend to pay for all the new efficiencies and technologies that will be necessary? And what kind of sacrifices will they be asking of people who almost certainly will have to pay more for their electric bills and their greener cars?
Addressing these questions will require more courage of the candidates than simply offering up broad new visions. The voters deserve an honest accounting and the candidates should be prepared to give it.
looks like japan is waking up to the reality of our times. too bad our our presidummie is locked in an eternal sleep of the dumb...
Climate focus as Japan heads G8
By Chris Hogg
BBC News, Tokyo
Japan is to propose the fight against global warming as a main discussion topic at a Group of Eight nations summit later this year.
The Japanese government takes over the chairmanship of the G8 group of industrialised nations on 1 January.
It also wants to discuss development in Africa, high oil prices and preventing nuclear proliferation at the summit.
Talks on how best to reduce greenhouse gas emissions once the Kyoto Protocol expires look set to dominate events.
The G8 summit is a rare opportunity for the leaders of some of the world's richest countries to come together, face to face, to thrash out issues that affect them all.
Japanese officials say the small gathering offers a chance for frank talking.
The Kyoto agreement on measures to reduce carbon emissions is due to expire in 2012.
The Japanese say that leaves just two years for new limits to be agreed in time for implementation in a post-Kyoto framework...
great rosy sunrise here in the hudson valley which is lighting up the snow covered fields and woods. a good day to be alive.
Good morning Gregg, I see the little vermin have been here. Please try not to step on one, they mash easily and will be a mess for sanitation to clean up tomorrow morning...thx.....
George Bush is a wanna be drug store cowboy; a wanna be tough guy. I'll be glad when he get on his wooden rocking horse and rides off to Paraguay with all of his stolen millions. Or is it hundreds of millions?
That was a funny post. I remember 4 years ago when I said I was coming to your "concert" in Nashville that raised nearly $50 for Democrats. I said that I would be there and then all of the participants in the planning committee started dropping out - Lance and all the other ass clowns. Then I finally fessed up that I had no intention of attending such a dopey event with asshats and it went forward and you raised nealy 50 bucks for Democrats.
"Not one of them wanted to meet me face to face !"
Well Jacqui and Schubert were cool with it.
That was great fun!
So you follow the DNC board for 4 years, insulting people, spewing lies, making blanket bigoted statements, and you wonder why people don't want to meet you? SURPRISE!
WHAT is your reason for being on the DNC blog, and not living a normal life like other men? This is more important to you than being a normal family man? How many people do you know that can look at you with a straight face when you tell them you spew lies and hate on the DNC blog???
btw, the pre-dean blog was a joke.
good job posting trash to make it a joke.
However, most bloggers here are smart, and when they see your name, or your face of trollness, they skip over it.
NObody reads you. You are a joke to most.
I'm sure the Log Cabin crowd would love your macho-ness.
They are the one group who like to blog here rather than the RNC blog, because they know the RNC would call them sinners.
I'm happy that you have such a beautiful day breaking for you. Enjoy it! It's just cold and damp down here. Lot of rain lately....
Here's the irony:
ALL THE DEMOCRATS STAND FOR "CHANGE," EXCEPT OBAMA!
The question is WHO MOSTt stands for change.
The answer is clear: John EDWARDS.
We need to get these crazy squirrels out of office before Cheney convinces Bush to attack Canada "Because they're not Americans"
Attacking Canada "Because they're not Americans" makes about as much sense as a lot of other things "Shotgun" Cheney has talked "Bubba" Bush into doing..
Edwards is looking better and better, stronger and srronger all the time! Go, John, go!
Morning Big, gregg and JohnBoy,
It's 23 and clear. I heard that it is minus 16 in Idaho.
Happy New Year.
good morning john. it's about 25 or so here and supposed to snow though the sky looks clear. this addition is moving slowly now that i am doing alot of the work myself. moved the hot and cold water tanks into the basement of the addition and ran the pipes back from them to the old part of the house. had some help from a friend who knows some plumbing and it actually works! now i am sanding the sheet rock as it has been taped and getting ready to put the primer on. projects that most people pay someone to do and get done in a few months i usually take a decade or so to complete...but then hell where are we going anyway??
When I despair, I remember that all through history the way of truth and love has always won. There have been tyrants and murderers and for a time they seem invincible but in the end, they always fall - think of it, always.
Morning {{{Dems}}}
see the deadbeat losers spent another holiday spewing their hate on an opposing blog. Harpo was obviously passed out early, and AZ danny's wife took him by his fat little ear and made him take her to Bingo.
Big Yellow, do not pay attention to Frosty's ramblings about the TN meetup. We were playing games all that night about which bimbo at the bar was him! We laughed our asses off at different choices. We would have LOVED for him to come, but of course, not only did he not have air fare, he is too much of a coward to show his yellow ass outside of his shack in the woods .
Here is that false pious Hick Huckabee, playing Games ! I think Karl Rove is on his campaign committee !
DES MOINES — Talk about political jujitsu!
Mike Huckabee is holding a press conference right now in which he was supposed to unveil a new negative ad against arch rival Mitt Romney
But Mr. Huckabee came to the press conference and announced he’d had a change of heart and would not be broadcasting the ad after all.
But wait! It gets better.
He then broadcast it for a room crammed with reporters, photographers and television cameras.
The assembled media found the display hilarious and at several points laughed out loud.
Telling you what’s in the ad, of course, plays into Mr. Huckabee’s strategy of getting his message out — Mr. Romney is bad — while being able to say his hands are clean.
http://thecaucus.blogs.nytimes.com/2007/12/31/huckabees-remarkable-play/
And this one is LOL funny!
The Romney campaign was instantly spinning the Huckabee presser as a "meltdown," even as the Huckabus made its way over to his campaign headquarters where the sideshow included anti-war protesters singing "who would Jesus bomb," a throng of supporters waiving signs for rival Ron Paul and a Minuteman in a wheelchair.
The Huckabee campaign called the police and three anti-war protesters from Iowa Occupation Project and Voices for Creative Nonviolence were arrested and taken to Polk County Jail.
Huckabee was on The Situation Room with Wolf Blitzer shortly thereafter and he seemed shaken. I guess he wasn't prepared for the guffaws that arose from the press who saw a little more Elmer Gantry than Jesus Christ in all of his schtick.
Huckabee reiterated his decision to put an end to negative campaigning. "Let it begin here," he said. "If it costs me the Iowa caucus, so be it."
Amazing that some might doubt his sincerity.
Morning Pam,
Happy New Year.
The temp just dropped to 13.
Oh, and for the simpletons who seem to believe I made some kind of admission of guilt, don't forget this part of my post!
j/k ;0 )
I was raised a Christian, and have my own personal understanding, but when listening to others, I would prefer to hear what is from YOUR mind, not what you were brainwashed to believe from a book that was written by men (not women). I have had my heart broken by men enough to know better now.
I guess you feel quoting the Bible is somehow going to fix everyone. Frankly, go to a few AA meetings, and you'll find that 80% of them ended up there because they were raised under religious interpretations. And look how many drunks and druggies are out there.
Posted by WatchfulEye on December 31, 2007 at 07:12 PM
I wish quoting the bible would fix everyone. hahaha I'm not hear to fix anyone. I would like everyone to get educated on voting and how to prevent fraud and disenfranchisement. That's my number one priority to post here. You see, it's kind of a civic duty I feel compelled to educate others on.
I'm hardly brainwashed because I read the bible which was written by men. Paul clearly hated women in general.
I find enlightenment from certain passages, enjoy reading of the conflicts of the world (history), and wish to share the good news.
I'm not cramming it down others throats, because you see, everyone has free will...free to read and want more, or free to use their mouse, and scroll right over....ignore. If by my posting scripture brings peace to some and makes the demons squirm in others, I get a chuckle out of both. 'Cause I'm a tart that way. ;p
I've had my share, and will probably endure more, abuse from men, family members who are drug addicts and alcoholics, and members who are royally messed up because they can't find peace with God or themselves.
And for good measure, here is today's:
Isaiah 30:18 And therefore will the LORD wait, that he may be gracious unto you, and therefore will he be exalted, that he may have mercy upon you: for the LORD is a God of judgment: blessed are all they that wait for him.
Enjoy the day, everyone.
It amazes me that Republicans think they are any sort of Christian. They would, if they could, take away from the poor as little as a crust of bread, take away from the elderly all dignity in their old age and throw them on the garbage heap, and take away health care from little children. Fine examples of the teachings of Jesus they are!
Back to POLITICS
I BELIEVE we're still trying to keep the two separate in THIS country (for now) unless the "two headed goat" Huckleberry gets the election!! Lovely father teaches his children to slay and kill stray dogs for fun! (which they did and was then FIRED from boy scout duty!) Or maybe they learned that from some DEMON that squirmed ONCE at his blind sermons of hate??? pft! opinions like they say we all got em!
anyway,
don't shoot the messenger
Clinton holds lead as Romney slips in Iowa
By John Whitesides, Political Correspondent Tue Jan 1, 7:07 AM ET
DES MOINES, Iowa (Reuters) - Democrat Hillary Clinton and Republican Mike Huckabee hold narrow leads on their top rivals two days before the state opens the presidential nominating race, according to a Reuters/C-SPAN/Zogby poll released on Tuesday.
Clinton, a New York senator, maintained a stable four-point edge over Illinois Sen. Barack Obama, 30 percent to 26 percent, in the Democratic race. Former North Carolina Sen. John Edwards was in third at 25 percent, down one point overnight.
and then you KNOW what they say about polls (all different)
Poll: Obama, Huckabee leading rivals
By DAVID ESPO, AP Special Correspondent Tue Jan 1, 5:22 AM ET
DES MOINES, Iowa - Presidential contenders rang in the 2008 election year with near-constant campaigning on Monday as a poll showed Democrat Barack Obama and Republican Mike Huckabee leading their rivals with three days remaining before the Iowa caucuses.
Anonymous phone calls and a negative campaign commercial that vanished into thin air also spiced the race, and not even New Year's Eve was off-limits to campaign oratory.
The poll by the Des Moines Register showed Obama, an Illinois senator, with the support of 32 percent of those surveyed, compared to 25 percent for Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton of New York and 24 percent for former Sen. John Edwards of North Carolina.
Apparently Sen. Biden is not holding his breath for a seat at the Edwards table either.
~snip~
From NBC’s Domenico Montanaro
Edwards, electable? Not so much, according to a blistering memo out this afternoon from Biden Communications Director Larry Rasky.
“[T]he evidence that Edwards is more electable is at best thin and is probably misleading,” Rasky writes in the memo, which reads more like it is straight out of the RNC's research shop. “The first question mark is that Edwards was unlikely to hold onto to his North Carolina Senate seat in 2003 when he decided not to run for re-election. In short, if John Edwards is so electable, why couldn’t he be re-elected in his home state?”
He then hits Edwards for not carrying his home state as part of the Kerry-Edwards 2004 presidential ticket, and that they even lost Edwards’ home county.
This is why I'm not worried about 11/08
"Candidates in both parties are fighting over a small pool of voters in Iowa; about 120,000 to 150,000 people are expected to vote in the Democratic caucuses, while 80,000 to 90,000 are likely to participate in the GOP contest."
(me oh my where have all the PUKES gone?) lmao!
Iowa final sprint is all about turnout
(personally I think most women are quite USED to standing in long lines, not loving it but better able to sustain it)
Dawn
It all depends on which poll you read:
New Iowa Poll: Obama widens lead over Clinton
http://www.desmoinesregister.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20071231/NEWS09/71231044/-1/caucus
I am at the point I do not pay attention to any of them, it all depends on which group they speak to.
ooops, Jinx, Dawn!
lol !
(hey bird turd, don't those well behaved little adopted kids want to go sledding or something? Or do they stay far away from you and your foul personality?)
Posted by PamB on January 1, 2008 at 10:36 AM
I know Pam. That last one I posted about Edwards has him in the lead. They are ALL different but that's only Iowa. Did you see the post I made the other day about Iowa?
They are wrong more than they are right in the last 10 or so elections. I was LMAO when I read SOME of the people they voted for and who ended up taking the ticket.
Muskie!! oh my goodness!
Harkin
Gephardt
etc
I would think it would be almost better to LOSE Iowa than win it. jmo.
ew now I'm mui curious about NH and SC
I must research their past votes and see how accurate they have been
speaking of polls
Rasmussen has an article of how accurate they have been with examples of their polls from last election cycle, etc - so I've been watching them mostly. I remember in 04 being quite upset at them for predicting BUSH would win over Kerry by a few percentage points. When everything else we were hearing had Kerry ahead. They were right. (partially by luck perhaps)
have a great day Pam!!
I'm back to researching!
PAZ
One more sweet one for the road
"Overall, that means 55% want one of the Democratic candidates to win the White House while just 39% name one of the Republicans."
WOOHOOOOooooooooooooOOOOOOOOo!
No matter how hard we try to keep them separate, they always mix and mingle
Religion & Politics
And because the DNC always highlights them, the other side:
Absentee Voting Under Way in 11 States
While candidates stump in Iowa, voters already have opened the 2008 presidential race by casting absentee ballots in nearly a dozen other states.
Iowa's first-in-the-nation caucuses are Thursday. But residents of 11 states—Alabama, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Michigan, Missouri, New Hampshire, New Jersey, South Carolina and Utah—have been able to vote for their favorite candidates since December.
Thanks, Esmeralda, I for one enjoy the words of encouragement in which you bring forth. May you have a Happy wonderful New Year!!
As Christians across the world prepare to celebrate the birth of Jesus, it's a fitting moment to contemplate the mountain of moral, and mortal, hypocrisy that is our Christianized Republican Party.
Bored with the primary horserace? Here's a rundown of whom the Democratic and Republican candidates should consider for their wingmen.
Esmeralda on January 1, 2008 at 11:22 AM
...and if y9ou analyze the failures one will see that all but one was caused by Senate and/or executive obstruction. Thanks for this post Esmeralda, as Gregg said up thread 'the rich need to wake up!! Well. it's not just the rich now, is it?
Thank you, David. May you be blessed this year as you have never been before. Believe, and you will.
I know after a year of shame and sorrow, God has doubled my portion.
Time to walk, power walk, then prepare some New Years Day treats for when the carpenter comes home from a side job. Maybe my Pretty Bird will stop over and celebrate her 23rd Birthday with her mother. or maybe she made too much merry last night. ;x (she was "the first to arrive in '85" in our county)
You never quit worrying about them, David. No matter how old or mature they become.
davidual on January 1, 2008 at 11:40 AM
However, I believe the freeze of the alternative minimum tax was a hard fought compromise for the Republicans in the legislature. Kind of like throwing them a bone, deserved or not, for their assistance on other important legislation.
Esmeralda on January 1, 2008 at 11:37 AM
I like the choice of Edwards/Strickland, and yes, it definitely would drive the Republicans bonkers...even more than they already are!!;~b
I understand about 'you never stop worrying about them'! I hope the '85 surprise is snug and soon returns to the nest with a 2008 hug for mom. Do have a great year!!
Thanks, Mike, for the refreshing clean up! It feels like a brand new key!
Happy New Year!
Now that we're counting down on the Bushiato's time in power, it should be more important than ever to impeach Bush/Cheney.
These sociopaths are insane enough to do something really, really stupid and destructive once they see there is no eff in way that the Republicans will win in this election.
Head them off at the pass,IMPEACH BUSH/CHENEY NOW!!!
Lady Dawn, Have you gotten any new polls for the day. CNN is airing speeches all day, but only excerps of Clinton & Edwards.
Hey, does anybody know if there is a cutoff for campaigning in Iowa? Will they campaign on Thursday?
Obama, Stop your lies! you are just a supporter of your race and not all races. That is the impression I get when I hear you on tv. I believe you would not know what to do in a crisis except vote present.
Another comment was about hillary, at least when she went to a foreign she was respectful and knew their culture. What would your wife do?
Quit lying to the American people because you are not a true American, your parents just happen to be here at the time, yet you went to school and was raised out of this country.
sighhhhh. If only Bush had left our original troops in Afghanistan, and not illegally invaded iraq, there would probably be no more Taliban nor AlQaeda , and CERTAINLY Bin Laden would have been caught by this time!
What a failure Bush has been ! Only 384 days, 10 hrs, 27 mins and we will be rid of this Evil Empire !
US Casualties in Afghanistan Hit Record
By Jason Straziuso
The Associated Press
Kabul, Afghanistan - U.S. military deaths, suicide bombings and opium production hit record highs in 2007. Taliban militants killed more than 925 Afghan police, and large swaths of the country remain outside government control.
But U.S. officials here insist things are looking up: The Afghan army is assuming a larger combat role, and militants appear unlikely to mount a major spring offensive, as had been feared a year ago. Training for Afghan police is increasing.
Still, six years after the 2001 U.S.-led invasion, violence persists in much of southern Afghanistan where the government has little presence, and recent militant attacks in Pakistan highlight a long- term regional problem with al-Qaida and the Taliban.
32 Dead In Iraq Suicide Bomb Funeral
A suicide attacker detonated an explosives-rigged vest at a Shiite funeral in Baghdad, killing 32 people gathered to mourn the death of an Iraqi army officer killed in a car bombing, police and ambulance officials said. Hours later in the same province, a Shiite man and his 16-year-old son were killed in a drive-by shooting as they stood outside their home, police said.
Hi, Essie.
It's been a year of change for so many of us personally. I'd like to see this coming year be one of change for the nation and the world.
God gave women a uterus as well as a brain to use. We'd be silly only to use one.
Keep the verses coming. I like to see how much I share with others who have in the past wondered and marveled at the ways of the Lord. It's connection to something bigger than I.
Its seems as though CNN is just showing Obama. Most people I talk to just don't trust him. We're tired of the nasty politics.
Happy New Year everyone. No doubt about it, today is the first day of a glorious year that will usher in our new democratic administration. I hope we have enough d-con (appropriately named) to get rid of all the fascist rats.
Sent the following to the UN today. Would be great if they actually did it.
May I suggest the establishment of a "United Nations International World Day". Such a celebration could be a powerful mechanism toward furthering a common understanding amongst the diverse cultures of our world. I would imagine, as the center piece of such a celebration of peace, tolerance, and cooperation, an annual parade (such as the Rose Parade in Pasadena, California) could be established. All member nations should be eligible to participate, but for a particular nation to host the 'Parade', the attainment of certain humanitarian and human rights criteria would be required with the final location selection being decided by committee.The idea is a simple one and the difficulties in bringing it to fruition are not small, but I am convinced that providing the people of the world an opportunity to see what is best in other peoples and to share in celebrating their common humanity can only help bring them together.
Iowa ad gambit may dent Huckabee's populist image By Ed Stoddard Tue Jan 1DES MOINES, Iowa (Reuters) - A staged event may have exposed presidential hopeful Mike Huckabee as a traditional politician rather than a self-described populist whose appeal has propelled
On Monday, three days before Iowa holds the first state nominating contest for the November 2008 election, the 52-year-old Huckabee told a packed news conference he had decided at the last minute not to run a scathing TV commercial countering rival Mitt Romney's attacks on his record.
Then Huckabee proceeded to show reporters the commercial, which ensured that TV cable and network news channels would broadcast parts of it for free...
What is it with the Republicans and press conferences?
First Spunky won't have any. Then when he does, all kinds of biazare things start happening like internet male prostitute Jeff Gannon being planted as a reporter to ask favorable questions (and the rest of the White House press corps not noticing...even to this day).
Then all the Republican frat boys running federal agencies start holding impromto press conferences making sure that they are the only ones present who can ask themselves favorable questions.
But the Huckster? He's in a league all his own. He's so arrogant and strapped for cash he thinks he can fool the media into running his ads just by holding a press conferene saying he doesn't want the public to see them.
I don't think Herman Goebels was ever this needy or greedy.
But I do see where Huckabee is coming from. The embedded, coroporated-owned media has gone along with every dishonest, sneaky thing that Rove and Karen Hughes has ever asked them to do. Why would they suddenly stop cooperating?
I believe the word was put out by Bob Bennett and the rest of the Bush crime family enforcers that The Huckster was getting too full of himself and this hypicritical religious BS that he might ruin it for all the rest of corrupt GOP candidates running.
There's no honor among theives?
FINALLY, perhaps some compromise and negotiation may settle the problems of Israel and Palestine!
Why couldn't they do this 30 years ago? Maybe, just maybe this may put an end to the Middle East and the World condemnation of Israel and they can join in becoming a secure nation. Maybe the USA will not have to be their only defender for eternity. Maybe there can be peace after all.
Olmert hints Jerusalem division is inevitable
JERUSALEM (Reuters) - Prime Minister Ehud Olmert signaled on Tuesday Israel might have no choice but to share Jerusalem with the Palestinians in a peace deal, citing international pressure for compromise over the holy city.
"The world that is friendly to Israel ... that really supports Israel, when it speaks of the future, it speaks of Israel in terms of the '67 borders. It speaks of the division of Jerusalem," Olmert said in an interview with The Jerusalem Post.
Israel captured Arab East Jerusalem in the 1967 Middle East war and annexed it in a move that failed to win international recognition. It regards all of Jerusalem as its "eternal and indivisible" capital.
Palestinians want East Jerusalem to be the capital of the state they aspire to establish in the occupied West Bank and in the Gaza Strip.
Sandy,
The Huckster's followers are your typical Zealots from the Religious Right Wing . Making a lot of sound and fury, but when it comes right down to votes, the American public is not going to put in a Southern Baptist Preacher who will take us back 100 years in a theocracy. Even many Republicans poll for the Right to choose for Females, and most of them do not find Gays the abberation that these Radicals would like them to think. Most preachers and priests teach tolerance and what God and Jesus really want people to do. Huckabee may be enjoying a brief moment in the sun, but I am willing to bet even the RNC does not want him as the candidate.
The Taliban, AlQaeda, and CERTAINLY Bin Laden could very well still be around regardless of the amount of troops we have in Afghanistan as all they had to do, all they are doing now, is crossing over the border into Pakistan and hiding among women and children in mountain villages.
And Lord help them if they're working with the locals to set up labor unions and threatening to strike.
Spunky would hunt them down and break their knee caps with baseball bats...or whatever torture technique is the choice du jour with the neocons these days. The War on Terror would quickly become the war on the middle class in the Middle East.
Actually, it already has.
Iraq's infrastructure shock and awed and looted? Check. Lebanon in a shambles? Check. The Palestinians divided and and bankrupted? Check. Syria and Jordan burdened with 2 million Iraqi refugees? Check. Pakistan no longer has a strong opposition leader for the next election? Check.
But, unfortunately Iran and Saudi Arabia are working together for the first time since the Persian Empire...neither want to be paid for their oil in American dollars any longer. And the Iraqi government is telling Bush what he can give to our veterans in the latest defense bill.
Yes, this foregin policy works real well...if you are China or Russia.
The GOP should stick to trying to destroy the middle class in this country.
Today, in honor of my father's 88th birthday, i'd like to post the following description of what he experienced as a coast guard radio operator on board a destroyer escort in wwii. He and many millions of others of his generation put their lives on the line to protect the world from tyranny and evil. Today he can barely recognize the nation who's freedoms, so many of his friends gave their lives for, have been taken away. This year, we're going to give him back his country.
While bound for shakedown at Bermuda, on 4 December 1943 Falgout rescued eleven survivors of the torpedoed tanker SS Touchet from a lifeboat. Completing her shakedown, she began Atlantic convoy escort duty out of Norfolk, Virginia, and New York to North African ports, making eight such voyages between 3 February 1944 and 2 June 1945.On 20 April 1944, in the Mediterranean, her convoy came under heavy attack by German aircraft. Before the concentrated antiaircraft fire of Falgout and the other escorts could drive them off, they blew up an ammunition ship, sank a destroyer, and damaged several of the merchantmen. With the other escorts picking up survivors or escorting the damaged ships into the nearest port, Algiers, Falgout screened the convoy on to its original destination, Bizerte.
The homeward bound passage of this same voyage was also a difficult one; on 3 May, one of the escorts was torpedoed and had to put into Algiers for repairs. Two of the other escorts sank the submarine which had crippled their sister, but on 5 May, another of the escort was torpedoed, and sank. Falgout and the remaining escorts brought the convoy safely home, not a merchantman lost. On her third convoy voyage, while Gibraltar-bound in the Mediterranean, Falgout took prisoner from the sea four downed German aviators.
Pam,
This could be a breakthrough, if the political forces could overcome the die hard religious dead-enders. But I doubt AIPAC would allow any Israeli government to do it. The Orthodox Hebrews are as crazy as our Christian zealots and Bin Lauden's crazies.
There has always been a poltitical solution to the Palestinian/Israeli conflict. The lunatic fringe has always found a way to end any peace initiative because they would lessen their hold on their religous followers.
But if we could come up with a viable alternative fuels policy, I bet the religious considerations would suddenly fall to the wayside...at least in this country. Economics always trumps religion fevor with American conservatives.
Your father sounds like a true American from the Greatest Generation.
tadviv, One more time! NOBODY really cares, outside of some jealous sore losers whether a President's wife was privvy to secured information or not! Now if you heard today that Laura Bush was getting classified info fed to her through the WH, without any security clearance, would you give a shit? My guess is NO ! So get a life, will ya chump?
This could be a breakthrough, if the political forces could overcome the die hard religious dead-enders. But I doubt AIPAC would allow any Israeli government to do it. The Orthodox Hebrews are as crazy as our Christian zealots and Bin Lauden's crazies
Just ask Joe Lieberman what he would think about such a compromise ! He is merely a chicken hawk to continue the israeli persecution of Palestinians. He epitomizes the Zealots who want it all ! Why he doesn't move there is beyond me. He sent a son over there, why not join him? Of course it kept the kid out of Iraq, too ! Let someone else's kid get blown to bits to help preserve Israel and all that oil.
HAPPY NEW YEAR, KICKIN ASS DEMOCRATS!
Good day, Goodfoe, I added to what you said:
It amazes me that Republicans think they are any sort of Christian. They take away from the poor, and leave a little crust of bad bread. THEY take away dignity from the elderly, and throw them to the garbage heap rather than allow cheaper Canadian medicine. They TAKE away health care from little children, and make society pay more due no immunizations and poor health care. THEY DENY MEANINGFUL HEALTH CARE REFORM. While complaining about these important needs, MONEY FOR IRAQ AND OIL COMPANY TAX BREAKS IS THE FIRST PRIORITY. Fine examples of the teachings of Jesus they are! The Pharisees would be proud.
Please tell your Father, Happy Birthday! And Thanks! from this simple gal in a tiny hamlet.
You are very fortunate you have such a father. Thank you for sharing his compelling story.
hmmmmm, Clintons vs. approximately 200 Corrupt, criminal, sexually perverted Republicans ???
I think the odds are in our favor ! I will take a stained dress over these Republicans any day.
Hello, Big Dog.
We can't manifest good without any action, sorta like, the mind is strong, but the flesh is weak.
Then in all we say, in all we do, we must show the world what real goodness is.
Today is a great day to try something new. (isn't that what New Years are all about?)
And this one is LOL funny!
The Romney campaign was instantly spinning the Huckabee presser as a "meltdown," even as the Huckabus made its way over to his campaign headquarters where the sideshow included anti-war protesters singing "who would Jesus bomb," a throng of supporters waiving signs for rival Ron Paul and a Minuteman in a wheelchair.
The Huckabee campaign called the police and three anti-war protesters from Iowa Occupation Project and Voices for Creative Nonviolence were arrested and taken to Polk County Jail.
Huckabee was on The Situation Room with Wolf Blitzer shortly thereafter and he seemed shaken. I guess he wasn't prepared for the guffaws that arose from the press who saw a little more Elmer Gantry than Jesus Christ in all of his schtick.
Huckabee reiterated his decision to put an end to negative campaigning. "Let it begin here," he said. "If it costs me the Iowa caucus, so be it."
Amazing that some might doubt his sincerity.
I loved this one. Thanks, Pam.
I'd think you'd want Hillary elected. Then you could try to impeach her, too.
It's hard to believe the Republican Party became so screwed up purely because of its obsession and vendetta with one political family. You gave up everything. Now your party represents all the things you say you hate.
Is there any other motivation left with conservatives? They don't care about fiscal responsibility, civil liberties, or moral behavior. Just war and graft.
I feel so sorry for those who thought Reagan was their Savior and now have to live with all the repurcussions like illegal aliens and rising taxes for everyone except the wealthy....who get welfare to boot. It's so ironic.
Pammy admitted to election fraud, on the blog, so it no wonder that she is a strong supporter of the Clintons.
Posted by Dan5 on January 1, 2008 at 03:51 PM
If I thought for ONE SECOND she committed voter crime/fraud, I would have been the first to jump her ass.
If you knew Pam like I know Pam (I've met her in 3-d, and keep communications with her) then you would know she was JOKING when she typed that! And don't attempt to say that because she & I are blog friends I wouldn't give her the riot act. I would...here and over personal communications.
My Necee & the carpenter will be home soon. Time to go make some "hot" Artichoke & Tuna spread for a snack. (along with a few other goodies to nibble on)
I'm sure there is a bottle of vino chilled to enjoy with it. It's been months! ;p
Have a great evening, everyone.
It only took me one bout with Reagan, before I realized what a mistake I made in a vote for him. Taken in by those roughed cheeks, and that big smile I guess, like a lot of other suckers. He should have stuck to movies with that other chimp !
even as the Huckabus made its way over to his campaign headquarters where the sideshow included anti-war protesters singing "who would Jesus bomb," a throng of supporters waiving signs for rival Ron Paul and a Minuteman in a wheelchair.
BYD,
This reminds me of the protestors that Nixon use to call a bunch of no good hippies. I wonder how many of them were actually Mitt's sons in disguise? I bet the evangelical voters backing The Huckster will blame this all on the Mormans anyway.
We're going to miss these Ron Paul and Minutemen protesters in future primaries...unless Mitt sends his "recruits" after McCain instead?
Thanks for your post, Essie. enjoy your evening. btw...Pam did include a j/k and a wink with that voting post of her's. And one thing not mentioned in the description of my father's experiences is that the ammunition ship blew up in what my father described as an ennormous explosion and had more than 100 soldiers on board at the time.
Good afternoon, Dear Dems and Happy New Year, too.
I spent the last 24 hours with my Democratic 82 year old parents, bless their hearts. My mother confided that she had been leaning toward Huckabee for a time and my father stated that if Obama was the Democratic nominee, he would vote Republican, as Black Americans would take their revenge for slavery out on white folks.
GOOOOOOOD GAAAAAAREEEEEEF!!!!!!!!!
Needless to say, there ain't no place like home.
Hi Essie,
Yes, you are right. I'm going to try something new. I'm not going to be so nice to trolls. I tried that, and it didn't work. From now on, I will refer to trolls as "DUMB DEFENDERS of LIARS, CROOKS, IDIOTS, CHICKEN-HAWKS and PERVERTS." Okay, maybe I need a shorter slogan from the trolls?
HAPPY NEW YEAR! You're awesome!
Blessed are the Peace makers.
Boilerman,
It's good to remember on a day like this the sacrifices brave men and women made so this country could endure and thrive. My thanks to your dad.
bbl maybe. I have a bunch of new books to read as gifts from Christmas.
Pssst, Dan. I didn't want to say anything, but you are right about Pam. She's totally taking advantage of us regulars.
I have to drive there once a week to clean her oven, babysit her grandkids, shovel the walks, re-brick the fireplace, repair the roofs, make her leftovers into gourmet dinners, scrub the hearth, do the laundry by hand and wash her feet.
I'm sure I'm not the only one here that is being taken advantage of by Pam. I'm glad to get this off my chest and now that you've outed her, maybe many more bloggers will come forward.
Bless you, Dan.
here's a real scandal. Want to talk about paranoia and fear mongering... Here we gooo...
A scientific view point on God and all things spiritual has fouled up the evolution of society again. Proof positive. No democrat can refute....
ADHD & ADD are seen as disorders. And thus treated as such. Thus medication to inhibit the disorder is the goal.
If the practical opinion that God created humanity with purpose was held up,.. then people would understand that add is a gift of thought process,.. and thus work with the gift.
Just like how dyslexia is a visual mindset that has weaknesses tied into picturing letters (easily fixed with molding letters out of clay),.. add can give people free reign thought process to multiply free thinking.
Science has failed again. Lets see how they rationalize and justify their failures. They bit off more then they can chew... PERIOD. They have their head so far up their own asses that they cannot see one half of other people points of view. They took on responsibility they weren't able to handle and failed. Miserably stumping the growth of society by stumping gifts that would enable real growth. These failures they choose to make won't be seen until 40 years down the road. Even bigger the foul.
But God made retards (says the liberalist scientist). No God made a society where the sins of the father are passed down through the generations. Thus adapting to alcohol makes people who are born the the alcoholism gene have a higher tolerance to alcohol and feel more natural the first time they drink,.. both signs of building a tolerance to alcohol. Thus we see the scientific term of adaptation,.. but scientists BELIEVE in random mutations. Yet another contradiction of faith. Nothing is random.
Ohhh,.. the rest of the retardation is not having enough of what is needed for development.
Do you want to discuss anything else about Christianity? Cause not a single word of God has been disproved.... It's just scientifically believed there is no reason to look in that direction. Just like there is no scientific reason to look at the soul. So spiritual depression from having false expectations is a mental disorder that needs to be medicated. They say God fouled up everything. Surprising that they believe anybody Godly would foul up everything they touch also.
Science is brainwashing by limiting perspective. The only believable lie is one that is based in truth. Thus they make assumptions from a limited pool of facts. They make huge half truths up and expect us to have faith in them over God. Huge assumptions that are used to replace Godly thinking in order to redirect and change our entire society.
You democrats have failed the world by allowing these huge misdirections of truth to get more clout then any word of God. You failed every kid that grows up believing spirituality is a sin. All because the bad apples of religion are aloud to define religion. Even the hate crimes against Christianity get swept under the rug to fit your agenda. Define Christians by their weak and call all gays saints. Thus you have taken the democratic vow.
Democrats need to be worrying about lowering cost of living. Wouldn't that make health care more affordable? Instead of raising taxes on the rich (witch get passed on in the price of goods. And creating a welfare state (teach a man to fish is biblical). Instead of creating bigger pollution laws, make the overhead of a better house more affordable. You see democrats do foul up everything they touch. Now I know why,.. you need to blame others for what you are guilty of.
Posted by Big_Yellow_Dog on January 1, 2008 at 03:47 PM....nice post Big Dog.....I'm lurking while I watch football. Fla lost to Mich.,...but it was a great game!........The Republican/Communist/Fascist, "wanna bee" dictators that they are, will get their just punishment, one way or another, sooner or later....When you create bad karma, the longer it takes to come back, the worse it is when it finally arrives....Happy New Year....the future belongs to the American People, not to the criminals!
no your not cyn. its been three years now that i have been forced to wash out the vodka and scotch bottles that build up in pam's recycling bin and relabel them as seltzer and olive oil so her probation officer won't know what she is up to. in addition pam has used her vast dossier about me to leverage me into gathering bottles and cans along I-84 from 3 a.m. to 6 a.m. every sunday and wednesday morning, redeem them at stew leonard's in danbury and send the money to her witches coven at communist central head quarters in bennington vermont.
and i am sure we are not alone....
Afternoon JohnBoy,
The MSM did not even mention the anti-war demonstrations during the Rose Bowl Parade. ABC was the only network that did the parade. There was supposed to be an impeach bush and cheney parade following the main parade. The MSM did not say a word about this either. Talk about un-american.
holy shit i think dummie gillespie is getting ready to blame the mortgage nightmare on.....no not bill clinton....but fdr!!
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - More steps by Congress and the Bush administration are likely needed to stabilize the imploding U.S. housing market, a senior White House official said on Tuesday, as more signs of distress appear.
Early last month, President George W. Bush unveiled a plan to help some homeowners avoid foreclosures as some 1.8 million mortgages with low starter interest rates are due to reset to sharply higher rates this year.
Ed Gillespie, counselor to Bush, pointed to efforts by the U.S. Congress to overhaul the Federal Housing Administration program developed in 1934 amid the Great Depression and designed to make home ownership more affordable. Members of the House of Representatives and Senate have been trying to work out a compromise plan...
gregg,
That is totally unbelievable. The next thing they will blame on Clinton and FDR will be the great flood and how Noah singlehandedly saved the world from them. Noah even saved dinosuars don't you know.
gregg, confidentially, that money from the cans/bottles that you send to the Bennington coven? It pays her OTB bill. Pam has another horrible addiction - playing the "ponies". And she's not that good at it, either.
If I have to muck out one more stall...
Go, John!
Miss Laura from Kos:Don't call it an endorsement - I have a preference I feel I should be open about, but in the final analysis it's just me. I'm explaining myself, not trying to convince anyone else.
In the end, my answer is the same as it was in the beginning: Ever-questioning, but nonetheless identifiable, for John Edwards. Here is a bit of my thinking, stripped as much as possible of reference to the other candidates I still would support enthusiastically in a general election. Qualities that appeal to me in Edwards are not necessarily missing in other candidates, but I feel them most strongly from him.
This is one for Jacque if she comes back in. Talks about how voting machines can be manipulated with magnets, Treos, and other hand held devices.
"California, Ohio and Florida have chosen to use scanning machines that count paper ballots electronically.
In Colorado, which has spent $41 million in federal grants on electronic systems, many of the state's nearly 3 million registered voters - and the county officials who conduct the voting - don't know what their elections will look like in 2008.
Coffman and Colorado's clerks and recorders are in a dispute over whether to use mail-in ballots or cast paper ballots at polling places.
All fear time is running out.
"We look at each other and go, 'We have used this equipment in three elections. Why did it get taken to a test board and get decertified?'" said Debbie Green, who heads the Colorado County Clerks Association and is the clerk and recorder of rural Park County. "There are some counties having elections in January and February and they don't have any election equipment."
Vendors of the electronic voting machines warn against a rush back to paper.
It can take two years to put a voting system in place, and overhauling a system just weeks before some states hold presidential primaries will invite a new round of problems, they say.
SHOULD Obama make it as the Candidate, it will be the defining moment to finally weed out the Racists. Let's see how many in the south and elsewhere have the guts to come out and not vote for him,
How did we let Corporate America get control of both political parties? That in fact they are now merging all religions into one political corporate Royal Conservative religious union. The sad fact is no real religion could ever act as a politician, when they have no real Biblical values but profit margins from their corporate clients.
Yes, our religious compassion of Washington's Katrina response showed the corporate takeover of Christians, who are now green blooded segregated value systems. That is why Main Street mainstream faith has its Patriot Act where, they must preach from a White House CEO pulpit.
You look at the other side of a Hillary mirror and see Obama and the same corporate interests. While when you look at Edwards mirror and what is on the other side, is that you see WalMart Main Street ghost towns that need attention in infrastructure reconstruction. It seems that the corporate power broker have their support with Hillary and Obama on the Democratic side and Romney and Guiliani on the Republican side. Huckabee has too much feelings for mainstream Americans.
It seems we have a Royal class of politicians that forgot about "We the people" power, power that elects them as servants, not employees of conglomerates. They treat politicians as illegal immigrants using them "At Will" as slave servants to their billion dollar CEO country club lifestyles.
Eisenhower and Ford were the last of the Lincoln Republicans since then Reagan, Nixon, and Bush CEO's have Incorporated our Constitution "At Will" with a Patriot Act takeover of all working people's civil liberties upon corporate domination. They have destroyed the working class middle class and its unions, so that we will becomes a Red Chinese clone of corporate worldwide socialism where politicians enter our homes "At Will" and make sure we are in corporate compliance and work their below minimum wage sweatshops, where even children are indentured.
With the worldwide destruction of Democracy and Freedom and Bush "At Will" redefinitions the term Liberal patriot of our founding fathers ideals, these have met there corporate demise, unless we can again create the Declaration of Independence 2008 from our Royal politician oppressors and elect the heart of America of being Made in America! Our children heritage and future depends on US breaking the corporate yoke and come back to family businesses, not White House Goliath's swallowing David's America. Yes, King George is back and his Royal redcoats are turncoats to the core of the "We the people" Constitution.
With a worldwide blight of free elections where every country has a stain of corruption, the world has become a world of czars, where the power brokers take over the world and Freedom An Democracy is crushed "At Will" of subjecting this world to a place of tyranny, where there is no human, civil, or religious right that we must segregate in ethnic cleansing of God's children.
Do you feel like their is a place for blacks in a Bush Republican country? A place for Liberal Constitutional scholars? A place where our children are brought up on dreams, rather than like Palestinian school slums dreaming of suicide? A place devoid of the American Artmosphere of Free Expression?
Artmosphere: it is where "We the people" paint the imagery of Free Spirits writing our minds, dancing among barefoot scenes, sculpturing the winds on ocean currents of rippling waves. It is the wildflower pastels of singing voices riding the HeArt of PoeLibArtry's verse upon canvassed Free Speech words.
Paint this year on the beauty of the American Artmosphere of me wishing you a Happy New Year HeArt of being blessed so special.
The Panhandle of Bush Country is draining me. My Ben Franklin hair style does not fit the Bush hair close Conservative crop. But I told myself I would not cut it until Independence Day January 21, 2009. I will then probably have it cut for wigs for kids with cancers.
I hope to immigrate to a place free of persecution at the end of this months, where the Constitution is still protected.
I almost see our country dividing like Yugoslavia where we divide on Conservative and Liberal lines much like the Civil War would have done, just because we have religions in America that like the Catholics in Europe, wanted their religious law. Religious law used to divide US by religious denominations. I can see this nation being divided into five areas, much like Iraq dividing in three areas. (This thought is a devil's advocate question, to raise up an idea for open discussion. Could this really happen here?)
hey folks, Im sick of these idiots in iowa and NH. These independents have no clue. they blog the awfullest crap about all the other candidates except for Obama. These kids that have come out need to keep smokin cauz he will not win the general.
Go Edwards! I see it is reported that Kucinich has asked his supporters to give their second choices to Obama. That does not seem consistent with Kucinich's populist message. Need to see what really is going on here.
back to sleep now,....later....BTW Trolls, I would still rather be "a commie asshat" than a Republican!
Under attack, drug maker turned to Giuliani for helpIn western Virginia, far from the limelight, United States Attorney John Brownlee found himself on the telephone last year with a political and legal superstar, Rudolph Giuliani.
For years, Brownlee and his small team had been building a case that the maker of the painkiller OxyContin had misled the public when it claimed the drug was less prone to abuse than competing narcotics. The drug was believed to be a factor in hundreds of deaths involving its abuse.
Another Royal Corporate Lawyer Politician, who is there screwing "We the people" by applying super star status to impede an investigation.
The Obscene German Corporate American Worker
Did you know that in America a worker can be banned by a Corporation for using Free Speech in their private homes? While in Germany, Mercedes Benz, may not be able to do this to German workers, but in Alabama they have the right to "At Will" ban your fingers from typing anything. That, in fact, they can terminate you for any reason even for using Liberal Arts on your own time. How can one enjoy Freedom and Democracy when you cannot use it in your own home?
Have you know of anyone from being branded by Mercedes Benz for being obscene? That they demand an evaluation for this unknown reason and after you explain things, they say you are not an obscene American writer poet. But taking this letter to HR that said you were evaluated for obscenity and found innocent, that Mercedes Benz "At Will" re-brands you obscene, saying you can never write any more Poetry ever.
Mercedes Benz uses verses in its promotions, and in its advertising songs but workers are denied the right to write songs considered poetry and any book that might accidentally rhythm like the Bible is a sin.
Are they like a World War II country company, where Free Speech is denied its song lyrics, its gospel verses, and Freedom of expression.
One could ask for a New Years Wish for an apology for labeling me obscene "At Will" from the German Mercedes Benz company. I wish that they re-terminate me for another reason, than a slap in the face, for what I love to do, Poetry.
But then the Democratic Party is Corporate Royally owned entity and does not protect any worker's homes any more that they are being denied Constitutional Freedom and Democracy in their homes. I need closure from the divorce termination, so please someone help me by contacting them to put this in the past. Mercedes Benz un-ban me and tell me I was never obscene, why that is almost slanderous, when you look at all I write using very few four letter foul words. In fact the assembly floor language is twenty times or more as bad as mine was ever in a few poems. How many workers Mercedes Benz, have you Judged "At Will" that they are obscene?
I hope you get this request, that we can sign off on the final divorce papers in respect for one another. But alas Mercedes, you will force me to keep writing about it, when with a little effort on your part, it could be over with. This: De-Terminated Poet Somewhere in America not on company time; will write the winds of American Artmosphere painting my Free Spirit with my HeArt Beats.
Did you know that Walt Whitman, was called obscene and terminated from the U.S. government for his poetry?
So much for using Free Speech in America, now you know why, especially in the South, one must always use a pen name. But today with a corporate government with its Patriot Act they call their corporate owners and have the employees silenced "At Will" like a Russian or German citizen.
I asked to see my personnel file and they kept postponing it, and before I could see it, they terminated me. They had a file so full of things that they never shared with me. It was funny six months before I looked at it and even the letter from being evaluated was missing. They also told me, I was denied a peer review "At Will." It been several years of pure agony, where they forced me to live on my dream by terminating me for "Poetry." That forced me to use my retirement funds to show them I could be a writer. You know how much you make as a poet? Why it is less than what they pay a sweatshop slave child!
So in these motel rooms of Liberty, I cry inside hurt and keep digging my nails into the scars of the words that must create this miracle that this solitary soul can survive on, in their post traumatic stressed De-Terminated vocation. That the Vietnam rants after serving one's country must come out from inside or else this veteran will die inside among the cancer of keeping it in. I would rather live in living suicide, where I never fear my words roller coaster depressions. The sad fact in a Bush Corporate World, the Vietnam Vet must talk out loud, about the Iraq Civil Was Quagmire of Blackwater blunders.
So sad, I fear tomorrow, more than today, for Free Speech, is a dying breed, of Liberal patriot dreamer.
I wonder if in Germany writer/poets have Free Speech? I wonder if their workers can be banned Liberal Arts in their homes? I wonder if any of there German corporations dare call a worker obscene? It would be interesting to find out.
I did do one mistake I paid for a T-Shirt for Poets Against The War. After I did that I realized I was on a Bush Patriot Act list. All these people were tagged for White House retribution just like the churches that opposed the Iraq War. It would be something if Washington has all Liberals on a J. Edgar Hoover like list. If Congress had any guts they would subpoena the Bush FBI/CIA/NSA lists for subversive patriots.
Alas this is my Vietnam rant for the New Years, were I can again go into my retirement and pay off my bills and my taxes. With my forced retirement education bill with added fees and paying off the bill and the taxes they charge me for paying it off, it will be another lean year of surviving termination. I wish I could make a deal for the money to just go to Federal Loan as a hardship but I will pay thousands more and the IRS will probably screw me on top of that. By the time I get to social security the Republicans will do to it what it did to our Main Streets and pay back Red China with it. Congress can you get a lump sum bailout with those who have been terminated after 55 to pay off those Federal Loans, P-L-E-A-S-E.
America is the only country, where you get less that you put in, and then politicians want to bankrupt you as this Katrina insurance victim leaving you bare ass bulldozed naked, asking for you to pay your taxes for their political pent houses vacation condominiums. What is a Royal politician? Someone that never studied the Constitution thinking it as a daily (constitution) walk to his or her lobbyist employee paychecks.
It will not be long before one will need a corporate endorsement for one to be declared an American citizen capable of working as a servant.
We must un-incorporate 3/4 of Congress and all of the White House, so that "We the people" can have our Constitutional Freedom and Democracy back, where due process is more important that "At Will" Executive Privilege. That "Made in America" values creates dreams for our school children having bright futures. Where a Middle Class rebuilds it working class values that hard work pays decent wages. America where it corporate headquarters must be located in the U.S. to receive its benefits. Corporations that support the American workforce with more that 50 % of the workers residing here to pay for our taxes. We must eliminate the Corporate Welfare State where it hurts US as much as a Civilian Welfare State. That corporations must be Independent of Government no bid purse strings and must be 150 % concrete accountable to Congressional and Legislative audits. The Corporate Robber Baron Carpetbagger profiteering must be expunged and those criminals be spent to hard time prisons.
What do you have in a Mitt Romney? A Corporate religious ruler who would sell our ethnicity off by being our savior. He is one scary individual in how he maneuvers people and the facts, where he is always the one who never does any harm but the one with the cure of I, I, I, I, rather than we, we, we, we.
Google "North Carolina vote irregularities," or look up the subject.
NC had massive problems from e-voting.
I don't believe Edwards did not win NC.
All we know for sure is that something was fishy in many states, including NC, FL, TN, OHIO, and many other states.
Let's talk real "CHANGE." All Democrats want a return to Clinton/Gore priorities. But who is taking a stand for real change? IMO, Unity 08 translates to "more of the same."
--------------------------------
Edwards: Fighting Corporate Greed Will Rally Democrats, Republicans, And Independents
On day four of his "America Rising" tour, Edwards says corporate greed hurts everyone and Democrats, Republicans and Independents will work to wrestle power back to the middle class.
Boone, Iowa – Today at a community meeting in Boone, Iowa, Senator John Edwards said that Democrats, Republicans and Independents must work together to fight the corporate greed that is destroying the middle class. Edwards' remarks calling on politicians to work across party lines to fix the broken system in Washington come on day four of his "America Rising: Fighting for the Middle Class" bus tour across Iowa. During the final days leading up to the caucuses, Edwards is visiting 38 counties and meeting with thousands of caucus goers to share with them his plans to stand up to powerful interests and make sure hard-working middle class families can get ahead.
"To get real change, we need a president who will stand up against the big corporations and powerful interests who control Washington," Edwards said today at his "Countdown to Caucus" event in Boone. "We need somebody who is going to fight this fight and win this fight. But I'm not talking about going to Washington as president and fighting politicians.
"I want to be absolutely clear that the corporate greed that is destroying the middle class of this country and stealing your children's future, it is stealing the future of Democrats' children, Independents' children, Republicans' children, " Edwards continued. "I'm telling you, this is a message and a cause we can unite America around."
Edwards comes from a working class family and has spent his life standing up to powerful interests and fighting for regular Americans like the ones he grew up with. As president, he will continue to stand up to these interests and bring change to America. He believes every time we fight for jobs, families, the middle class, universal health care, and an end to poverty, America rises.
Nope, Dumb Dan, the voting machines flipped votes to Bush. Too bad you don't care about our DEMOCRACY, you CLOSET COMMIE and CHINA SUPPORTER.
In 2006, family members, and the REAL supporters of the troops, voted. Think of how you turn your back on the graves of the troops? You are a trader!
Had you cared about our Democracy, and less about "liberating" Iraq, and supported Kerry, the real war hero, many troops would not have been maimed or died? With supports like you, the troops don't need enemies.
So you put 2 underscores in my name. You are so clever. Maybe I need to underscore a fact...
NOBODY DIED WHEN CLINTON LIED!
Did Hitler love his troops when he sent them to a new front that put the troops in danger?
BTW, this ill-advised move cost Hitler the war.
Dan5 is posting as me, with a double underscore between names.
Congratulations, you've just seen to it that I lobby to get a bb that screens for liars. Since you don't have the facts or issues, you Republican hacks just attack the messenger.
You and your many aliases will have no place to go... except the Log Cabin Republican bb. You really will be much more happy with the other right-wing control freaks hypocrites who have "issues" with woman. HAHAHA.
Fact: 8 year of Clinton/Gore v. 8 years of Bush/Cheney PROVES that America is better with Democrats in the White House.
Republicans just lied for war, blew the Clinton/Gore surplus, and had sleep overs with male prostitute and fake WH reporter Jeff Gannon. So much for "restoring honor to the WH."
Democrats will win in '08 because EVERY REPUBLICAN went along with Bush/Cheney.
Whoever the Republicans nominate, the Democrats, Republican, and Inderpendent voters will say, "been there, done that. We want a return to Clinton/Gore priorities."
Well, I see the "Bang Me" sisters are here this morning. Good morning girls!.....
I saw where McBurd was cackling with glee on one of his (it's) posts because he (it) thinks I will die soon. What kind of a person takes joy in another's pain and death. This is so typical of Republicans. Let old people who have worked hard, paid their taxes, raised their families die under a bridge somewhere. That is "Compassionate Conservatism" in a nut shell. I would rather be "a commie asshat" as McBurd likes to call me than a Republican any day!
Did that get your "brownie points" in for the week ?
You don't say any thing when she;
Makes bigoted remarks about Christians or Jews.
When she make racial slurs.
When she attacks peoples familys.
So why bother with trying to defend her on voter fraud ?
Posted by Dan5 on January 1, 2008 at 04:20 PM
Good morning, Dan. I always defend EVERYONES right to free speech. Why, I've even stuck up for you trolls.
I need no brownie points. I'm seen as a troll and/or repug spy by some here for the mere fact that I don't walk the chalk they lay down. I dance in my jammies to a different tune. ;)
Are bigoted remarks against the law? No, but hate crimes are. There is a difference.
You make racial slurs, you attack peoples families. Remove the log from thine own eye before you try to remove the splinter from others...and all that jazz.
Voter fraud is against the law. One law I have taken an oath to uphold.
I live my mans law, not because I'm a goodie two shoes, but because of wanting a decent society. I try to live by God's law, but I always seem to end up short. Some days are better than others. God always gives another chance...or else I wouldn't have woke up this morning feeling so good!
A couple of inches of snow here that closed the local schools. That's SE OH weather for you! The kids get a longer holiday vacation!
good morning, {{{johnboy}}} How's TX? I'm not into watching sports, I gave up regular NASCAR watching a couple of years ago, but I do plan on watching OHIO STATE this weekend.
What have I been typing? I told you huskster was appealing to moderate democrats. And people in states like mine won't vote for Clinton or Obama, no matter how great they appear to the blogsphere. (I'd love to do a survey of registered voters who read real news, not opinion pieces, or who research candidate info before voting. I think most of you here would be surprised. I deal with voters day in and day out...and the candidates too.)
McBurd has made several comments about my impending death with varying degrees of levity, over time. I'm not dead just yet, McBurd, and until I go, I will continue to write and speak the truth about you sorry rat bastards in the Republican Party. You hate old people, you hate children and you hate anyone who will nor allow you and your criminal cronies to steal and plunder the taxpayer's money at will. And you hate anyone who will not allow you and your criminal cronies to wage war for oil and profit. Screw you and your kind, McBurd, your reign of lies and deceit is almost over!...
Good Morning Essie,....How about a little good scripture from you to start the day? I have one of my own that I live by: "Anyone who does not provide for his own, 'specially those of his own house (nation) hath denied the faith and is worse than an infidel".....sounds like George Bush and the Republicans to me!
A man after my heart!!!
Just for you, my TX friend!
1 John 2:5
But whoso keepeth his word, in him verily is the love of God perfected: hereby know we that we are in him.
Thank you, Essie!...I needed that this morning,...the hypocrisy of our Republican trolls is too much and has me awakened with fire in my belly and a sword in my hand this morning!
Thurs. night our delegate caucas meetings will be held in our Congressional District. While I didn't submit my intent to run as a delegate, I do plan on attending as a voter for those who are seeking.
A friend of mine asked me to attend for her in the Edwards meeting, but I told my Necee if she goes with me, (the first caucas she is eligible to go to as a registered voter) that we would attend the candidate of HER choice. She told me last night she is supporting Sen. Clinton. I hope Bird and Bella will go too.
Wouldn't that be a wonderful family tradition? For 3 generations to attend the Democratic Presidential Caucas!
The filing deadline for county offices and precinct central committee positions is Jan. 4th. I plan on submitting my petition today.
I'm experiencing mixed emotions today. This is my final day working in county elections, a position I've held for almost 16 years.
What a glorious new year! Full of change and challenge.
I drink from my saucer!
Essie,...We have been warned about "ravening wolves in sheep's clothing"...."who would deceive even the very elect".....translation,...Mike Huckabee leading the gullible so-called "Christian right" down the path to destruction again....Anyone who understands the teaching of Jesus and who has even a basic understanding of what George Bush and the Republican Party have done to this country would become a liberal Democrat in a Texas nano second. Alas, they have eyes and do not see and are lead astray!
I can only hope for the opening of minds and of hearts, john.
With that, I'm off to put in 2 miles...maybe the butterflies will ease up.
Enjoy the day, everyone.
I'd go for Sherrod.
Now, I'm gonzo!
Good morning Gregg,...Hope all is well with you up in the beautiful Hudson Valley this morning!
Morning JohnBoy and Essie,
It's 18 here and clear. They say we have another week of storms sweeping in from Alaska and then maybe it will warm up.
My refrigerator water pipe froze yesterday and it took me the better part of the morning to get ice water again. I need to keep my house warmer. There was no damage because it was a soft freeze.
Weather report says it is in the 40's in south Florida.
Lots of poor people are going to suffer this winter because bush cut heating oil subsidies. He's nice and warm in our White House and in typical repuke fashion does not care about anyone else but himself. He learned it from his bitch mother. She was heard saying of the Katrina victims "let them eat cake".
Didn't Marie Antionette say the same thing before she was taken to prison?
Morning gregg,
Good luck Essie. Make a difference and get Dems elected everywhere. You have already done so much. Thank you.
Posted by Johnedwrd on January 2, 2008 at 07:39 AM
Good morning John,...You have to watch those "soft freezes"....homes in the South are generally not as well insulated as those in the North and a freeze with broken water pipes in the home can cause much damage. I had a homeowner who would not listen to me in the early '80's about shutting off his water and draining his pipes. He had over $25,000 worth of damage to his home....didn't they cut off her head?
Good morning, Dems. It's a beautiful clear 23 degree morning.
Esme, the butterflies are a good thing. They mean you are growing, reaching out and thinking about your new path, which is a product of your hard work. Change is hard, but rewarding.
JohnBoy,
Yes they did cut off her head along with her husband. The people prevailed.
goodfoe, it's nice here though cold and we have at least a foot of snow on the ground. going down to 7 or so tonight...
Thank God for Joseph Kennedy. He is still advertising low cost heating oil from Venezuela and he thanks CITGO and the people of Venezuela.
He even mentioned the fact that bush cut heating oil subsidies for the poor. I know what the repuke mantra on this is:
"Get a second job (at McDonalds) to pay for your heating oil, why should the government pay for it".
I say let them be removed from office and made to live under a bridge for the rest of their miserable miserly lives, then go straight to hell.
JohnE...The people will prevail again. The day of reckoning is coming for the Republican phonies!
Good morning Cyn,.....GO EDWARDS!!
from the l.a. times:
"None of our candidates seem to have caught on," said GOP pollster Neil Newhouse. "You have the whack-a-mole Republican primary: As soon as one rises up, the others knock them down."
...hey whack a mole, whack a maggot, whack a lying sack of excrement....whatever you call it keep whacking those cretins till their party is driven from our government!
Romney and huckster feel the same as the rest of the repukes. Screw the poor and let them die under a bridge is their attitude.
Gregg. I couldn't stand 7 degrees anymore...I was laying brick out in freezing weather years ago and got hypothermia. Ever since then, the cold really hits me hard. Good luck with all that snow and cold weather!
Morning Cyn,
I am all fired up this morning and ready to go to work.
If any poor people die this winter due to the lack of heating oil because they couldn't afford it, bush and cheney should be charged with murder under special circumstances like they say on Law and Order.
I am sick of their miserly ways. They are worse than misers. Misers keep everything for themselves.
Posted by gregg on January 2, 2008 at 07:58 AM
I hope they go down to a sting and humiliating defeat. They have earned it and deserve it for the way they have betrayed the American People they were elected to serve.
Well that is easy, how about the several times you have called Joseph Lieberman "Joe Boy" an obvious racial slur for "Jew Boy".
Damn, there goes my coffee again, right onto my desk! If this remark was INTERPRETED as Jew boy, then the READER is the one with a problem! This old racist bigoted pig in the back woods is a hypocrit! His buddies should pay more careful attention to the filthy, racist, Bigoted, attacks out of him! Then they would not have the nerve to comment. I have never in my life, seen the kind of filth that has come out of Stevie Boy mouth. thank goodness I have kept it all for his Posterity!
(and that election fraud one, now that is digging real low even for you, dumbo. Don't forget to include the j/k ;0 when you do anything with it! My Mayor knows better, she stood next to me all the time I was doing them. She will get a kick out of you when I explain how sick you are. Tell Tom Lymburner I said Hi. He is the Mayor of Hinckley , and you live in Hinckley, so I guess that kind of makes him your official)
Morning, JohnE. Tis' good to be fired up for a worthy cause!
I don't know about your area, but it is a very real problem in rural NY. Should I eat, buy my medicine or heat my home? Oh, yes, and the Town & County taxes are due, not to mention the increase in the mortgage payment on the house. And can I afford the gas to get to my job (if I am lucky enough to have one? And if there are kids in the mix, it's even harder to keep up.
It's a sad state of affairs for a lot of people.
goodfoe, so far i have suffered no such misfortune with the cold and am able to adapt to it pretty well. if this doesn't last i expect to be living in the crawl space under someone's trailer in alabama some day i suppose.
Morning Dems, Sorry about that lapse in my New Year's Resolution to ignore the Fools, but I cannot allow Lies to lay here.
I posted an article last night as to WHY Iowa and New Hampshire are the kind of states that the Primaries should be first. I am not sure I really agree with the philosophy, but it basically said, that unlike MN which has so many citizens dependent on the GM plants, which are down sizing, etc, and unlike FL that has it's eyes on Cuba and Castro, that Iowa and NH are more able to take a more realistic look at the candidates themselves.
Now another article I read in this morning's paper, says the Iowa Political Caucuses mean little to many residents in the State. So we have a select minority deciding who they would want to see as President.
Somehow this still does not make sense to me.
Maybe next time, MN and FL will make it their business at the National meeting to get this changed. Who knows........
Posted by Cyn_NY on January 2, 2008 at 08:15 AM
You are right about that Cyn,...thanks to the Bush crime machine, the country is in bad shape. In order to turn it around, we are not only going to have to elect a Democrat as President, we are also going to have to elect more Democratic Senators and House members. The fight is going to be hard, but in the end, the People will prevail!
Cyn,
The problem here is with Propane. Rural customers use propane and it is the same price as gasoline. We have lots of rural poor as in every state.
Morning Pam.
Is there no end to their bigotry and hypocricy. When I was travelling last week I really felt uncomfortable any time I had to go to an airport restroom. I expected a republican to pop under a stall at any moment.
Posted by gregg on January 2, 2008 at 08:22 AM
I don't think you are going to wind up living in the crawl space under some one's trailer in Alabama, Gregg. If it gets that bad, you can always come and live next to me in the space under the overpass at I-45 and Cypresswood Drive that McBurd has allocated for me and my family. We'll share with you!
Johnedwrd,
LOL, it appears that MN Republicans are the ones to watch out for ! And I would not use on in a Tucson AZ airport either if I were you.
Although you are right, all Republicans appear to be sexually perverted, because of all that Party platform on abstinence, and sex for procreation-only jazz.
Posted by gregg on January 2, 2008 at 08:22 AM
Sorry about that double post to Gregg,...My bad!!...BTW, Gregg, if you want that space under the over pass, let me know soon. It's a good one, and a lot of the Viet Nam vets who have been forgotten by the Bush administration are grabbing up space there fast. This is not unusual, in Houston, most of the space under all the major overpasses is already taken. Out here in Spring, there is still a little left.
Morning Bob,
bbl, off to the little city for work. It's too cold in the mornings to walk the dog so I take them in the pm.
Good morning, Bob,....Hope all is well with you and yours......
{{{JohnBoy}}}
don't forget you promised to save me a spot next to you under that Overpass ! Once the Republicans finally eliminate the Middle Class and turn us all into paupers.
Happy New Year to you, VA Bob ! Time to really put that Liberal Revolution into Drive!
Posted by PamB on January 2, 2008 at 08:59 AM
Don't worry Pammy, I'll save you a space! There is a real good "begging spot" only about 50 feet away. I'll share that too. I'm going to make up a large sign that says,
"Cancer survivor raising three grand children,
Destroyed by George Bush,
One car repossessed,
One home foreclosed,
Need donations to pay for bankruptcy filing,
Please donate what you can today"
Posted by gregg on January 2, 2008 at 09:05 AM
There isn't room for all three of us on the "begging spot" at the same time, Gregg. You and Pammy and I will have to take turns. But it is a good high traffic area, so it will work out well for all of us.
Bring your hibachi and beer ball AND COME ON DOWN!
I'm not totally happy with my proposed sign,...
I'm thinking where I say "destroyed by George Bush" might be changed to read "destroyed by George Bush economic policies"...what do you all think?...help me out here with some input for my sign....
NEW THREAD,...and I didn't get any help with my sign, drat it all anyway!
Ha, JohnBoy,
I will bring one of my very old dogs and very old cats, and they will be out there begging with me. People are suckers for bony animals.
And of course, I have given all my money to Democratic causes and candidates, so my clothes are already all tattered.
I'll bring the box of Ripple. And some of the day old bread from the dumpster out behind the A&P !
It is nice to know that misery will find company! ;0
heading out to the bank and store. maybe throw in a pedicure while I still have a little credit left on these charge cards! Or should I send some more on to DNC 50 state strategy? hmmmmm, I will have to think about that.
