Go Edwards! John is going to break out of the pack!
As a believer of Jesus, I never thought he was born in the middle of winter. The bible states that shepherds were in the field. I highly doubt they are out herding at this time of the year.
Most Christian "holidays" are pagan mixed, they just don't realize it.
We are to celebrate the birth, death, and resurrection of our Savior each and every day.
Isn't that what Ebenezer Scrooge was taught? ;)
Anyway, today's verse:
Luke 2:11
For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, which is Christ the Lord.
Now, I do believe the carpenter deserves a big breakfast. That man is installing a new faucet and oak flooring in the little bathroom.
Answered prayer after years of heartache.
Love and blessings, to all!
Merry Christmas, everyone.
Love and peace to all...the war is over if we let it.
Blessings to you, Esme.
John Boy, I heard on the news that Obama is slipping in the Iowa polls, as is Huckabee. The great news is that John Edwards is rising!

Essy,
We know Jesus wasn't born in the winter. He was most likely a Leo (Aug) or Virgo (Sep) . But you know, the Last Super wasn't on a Sunday either and yet we take Communion on Sunday in remembrance of him. Same with Christmas. It's just a celebration of his birth. That's why it's Christmas and not Happy Birthday Jesus.
Merry Christmas.

Merry Christmas, Sandy
Even the Pope "gets" it.
In Christmas homily, pope deplores selfishness, harm to environment
Pope Benedict XVI on Tuesday used his Christmas homily to speak out against selfishness and the degradation of the environment as he celebrated midnight mass at Saint Peter's Basilica."Man is so preoccupied with himself, he has such urgent need of all the space and all the time for his own things, that nothing remains for others -- for his neighbour, for the poor, for God," he said, recalling the story of Christ's birth, when "there was no room in the inn" for the baby Jesus.
"And the richer men become, the more they fill up all the space by themselves. And the less room there is for others," said Benedict, wearing a white brocade robe.
The leader of the world's 1.1 billion Catholics spoke in Italian as thousands listened in the vast basilica and millions more on television worldwide.
"These words refer ultimately to us, to each individual and to society as a whole," said the German-born pope. "Do we have time for our neighbour who is in need of a word -- or in need of my affection? -- for the fugitive or the refugee who is seeking asylum? Do we have time and space for God?" he asked.
Recalling Christmas homilies of the fourth-century Bishop Gregory of Nyssa, who lamented a "universe torn and disfigured by sin," Pope Benedict also spoke of the environment.
"What would he say if he could see the state of the world today, through the abuse of energy and its selfish and reckless exploitation?" he asked.

Cyn,....What is surprising to me out of all of this is on the Republican side, how fast Ron Paul has come out of nowhere. In some ways, he has a populist message (of sorts) like Edwards. Does that tell you that people are ready for a REAL change?.....be back in a few....John Boy.....

US Senate stays in session to block Bush
AFP
Published: Monday December 24, 2007
The US Senate is holding special one man sessions throughout Christmas and the New Year to prevent President George W. Bush from making appointments without the approval of the Democratic majority.
With the bang of a gavel, Democratic Senator Jim Webb declared the first session open on Sunday morning before closing it seconds later, without any of his colleagues present in the hall.
The brief ceremony will be repeated every two to three days until January 18, when lawmakers resume their work after the Christmas and New Year's holidays.

Jews, Muslims in U.S. seek paths to harmony
Leaders of two minority faiths hope improving relations set global example
CHICAGO - Muslims and Jews, a tiny slice of the U.S. population, are looking for new ways to get along that could set a worldwide example for two ancient but often alienated faiths, religious leaders and experts say.
"I've encountered (among Muslims) a more centrist, a more moderate voice that is looking to the Jewish community to help project that voice ... to the greater world," said Rabbi Marc Schneier of New York, speaking of a national summit of imams and rabbis he helped organize earlier this year.
that's my little bit of news gathering for this morning
enjoy your holiday everyone!
Be WELL! Be WISE! Be YOURSELF!

Merry Christmas to you, too, Cyn.
But did the Pope speak of room at the in for gays and lesbians, women priests, or those that use birth control?
Once there is a truly compassionate world religious leader who doesn't exclude anyone from the family of Man and shuns the wealth that organized religion attracts, we will know that The Lord is pleased with what he sees.
Isn't it funny how every great religion more or less preaches the same things...do unto others, being good shepards of the earth, helping the poor and sick, and loving one another. But man-made rules tear down the meaning of those truths.
It forces many good people of faith to seek other ways and keeps the chaos going. Peace is ours if we let it.
Time to listen to my Perry Como and Ann Murray Xmas albums. I really do need to get something a little more contemporary. We haven't had a new, really sweet Christmas song in a while. I don't count "Grandma Got Ran Over by a Reindeer."

Good morning to all my favorite Dem Bloggers!
Here is just a small piece of our family tradition I wanted to share with you.
Each Christmas for the past 20+ years this is the first Christmas album we listen to and now it is our little Noah's favorite.
It's a little long, but hopefully you enjoy this story and song as much as my family does.
Merry Christmas and all the best wishes in the New Year!
Thanks Kristen, that was very nice,...later...zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz,s now
Happy Christmas all,
The solstice celebrations of the returning sun Christians can relate to and celebrate with the returning Son's nativity. It's good to have the day off each year to ponder such mysteries no matter your faith or beliefs.
A day of solidarity for all living to face the ineluctable and mysterious common fate of death together. With feasts and celebration and hope and faith. But not with Devil's eggs.

Merry Christmas to all.
Christ could have been born in winter.
A bit of history here.
Shepherds, back then, were of about the same social status then as migrant farm workers are now, which means they usually weren't treated very well, some of them were even slaves.
Most of the landowners didn't think the workers were as important as the sheep. The shepherds had to stay out at night to guard the sheep from predators, because the sheep weren't kept in barns.
Sheep don't need barns, they carry their wool overcoats on their backs, and in the spring the fleece is sheared and made into warm clothing for people. Usually the shepherds had a mantle, probably wool, that would also serve as a blanket, and a fire to warm themselves during the night and help deter predators. The symbolism of the angels appearing to these lowly men was part of the message that Christ came for all of us.
If you read Christ's message throughout the Gospels, you can see that He cared for the poor and wanted us to do the same.

Now the Northern Hemisphere is in Winter, while in the Southern Hemisphere it is Summer. While Bethlehem is not in the tropics, it is the temperate zone and at the time of Jesus birth shepherds were on duty year around in the fields.
While you say Christmas is a pagan Christian "holiday" when was Jesus born and since Easter is a Christian holidays when did Jesus die? While the Orthodox Christian celebrate his birth on January 7, the Mormons on June 6 in a different year, and other non-pagans, I am not sure when, it would be nice to have the scientific date. Since the Three Kings were able to calculate the 3000 year event on their charts of the stars merging, then NASA should be able to do it within a week. At least with a certain year and a certain month period.
Meanwhile, I will calibrate it on December 25th, the Pagan Holiday as you see it.
Merry Christmas Day Again just in case I missed anyone!.....later.....company will be here shortly.
Merry Christmas!
I hope everyone is having a good day.
Peace everyone. Enjoy the day. :-)

Full Story:
Merry Christmas for all, and may the next year bring US our Democrat.
While Hillary did do her transformation by elevating herself down more to "We the people", it might have been too late. I still get steamed that she will use the Bush's as ambassadors with Bill. I think Bill's comment hurt Hillary. The last thing I want, is King George VIII in the White House visiting. The White House that he has kept away from "We the people." We must expunge the King George VIII legacy and I am afraid the Clinton's may prop it up by ASSUMING Bush's Executive Privilege.
The funny thing, as said here, the other candidates have more experience on the world theater that either Hillary or Obama, yet they both tackle each other with it.
Obama you are elevating yourself as a Clinton (Hillary), while she is lowering herself to a civilian person. Obama do not take the Royal Road, it will scar you, go back to your roots level. Obama the Clinton Camp is maneuvering you like a Rove Chess piece, get Independent of Hillary's shackles. I would also be careful with your advisor's, something tells me there is a dirty trick move going to be made.
Come on Edwards, kick in your stride, get over that Corporate hurdle, those CEO's that see you as a threat to their Creative Accounting Republican Country Club control of the White House. Time to roll out the "We the people" Constitutional heart and bring out the patriot faith of mainstream "Made in the USA" pride. Yes, it is time to have the Main Street strut. Show those closed Iowa manufacturing plants, those closed New Hampshire clothing mills, and that WalMart Main Street. You see Hillary and Obama cannot afford to do that they are too tied up with Corporate Strings. Yes, an add with strings going to other candidates pulling them back away from "We the people" needs.
You know how long it been since we have has someone from outside the Ole South as President?
Gore, stay in the shadows, we may need a recovery plan, if Corporate America wins. Not the small Corporate ones but those GOLIATH Republican Royal ones. We may need some patriot David's to slingshot Corporate Corruption out of Washington. Like Eisenhower said, "We the people" must be diligent watching out for the Corporate Invasion that will merge our government into a Conglomerate Corporate Empire with Blackwater troops instead of a "We the people" Armed Forces with Constitutional shoe strings.
Ike was born ""David"" Dwight Eisenhower did you know that? That he helped defeat the Goliath threat in Germany, and then seen the threat within our own government by say this:
"We face a hostile ideology global in scope, atheistic in character, ruthless in purpose and insidious in method..." and warned about what he saw as unjustified government spending proposals and continued with a warning that "we must guard against the acquisition of unwarranted influence, whether sought or unsought, by the military-industrial complex... Only an alert and knowledgeable citizenry can compel the proper meshing of the huge industrial and military machinery of defense with our peaceful methods and goals, so that security and liberty may prosper together."
Right after that Nixon took over the Republican Party of Lincoln for Corporate Royals. It has never reclaimed its "We the people" heart since then segregating itself in a religion of riches at the expense of the American worker and Middle and Poverty Classes.
in the 1980's Corporate America invaded the Workers Party and Civil Rights Party to instill a stranglehold on Washington, where "At Will" "We the people" were sold down river.
So if Ike can defeat the Axis power, then our David's, John's, Mathew's, and all those names on the Constitution can join Ike's warning and defeat the Corporate Royal Conglomerates merging our government with there CEO empire. They must be separated into smaller entities where they do not threaten our children's futures, where they can have jobs that lead to dreams.
So sad today that Corporate Politics is merging its one religion onto all of America where it is controlled from Washington. Just like in Red China its religion is controlled by Beijing by one man.
While you say Christmas is a pagan Christian "holiday" when was Jesus born and since Easter is a Christian holidays when did Jesus die? Meanwhile, I will calibrate it on December 25th, the Pagan Holiday as you see it.

I do not care the day or season that He died, just that He did, and that He was resurrected. And because of that, I may live forever.
Did I not say that every day should be lived as such?
Arguing this point is as ridiculous as the trolls saying what we may or may not feast upon during our celebrations.
But since we are but mere humans, we must dedicate one day. I have no problem with Dec. 25th. ;\
I was watching The History Channel/Modern Marvels, where they stated that there is over $600 million spent each year on Christmas ornaments (glass bobbles) for decorations.

Time for an afternoon walk.
Enjoy the day, everyone.
Merry Christmas, John Boy. Sorry I missed your earlier.
And special greetings to everyone else today. I hope all those at the DNC are enjoying a good day with family and friends. We appreciate all that you do for us here.
Harpo,
Rules created by Man were destined to be broken. But the bond between all of God's creatures and the Lord is impossible to break...no matter how much some try to ignore the fact.
The Lord has more faith in us that we do Him/Her. And it's a good thing. You especially need someone watching over you with your rotten attitude toward others here. If you can't change us, why not join us?
Lighten up. It's Christmas. Take it as a sign of new and exciting beginnings in the coming election year. (And let your wife out of the kitchen; it’s a holiday for heaven's sakes.)

My Christmas USS Constitution's Broadside
America Crying Christmas Tears
Lord, where has our inner faith gone
That is captured on political faces
That claim such divine compassion
Wanting to bulldoze human profits.
These Robber Baron pick pockets,
Who serve their master saviors
Giving them Golden Idol treats
As priests given bribes in a temple.
These angel serpents slithering greed,
Billion dollar overseas slime suits
Leaving beggars here asking for mercy
Why have they forsaken America?
Lord, who are these Corporate creatures?
Whose religion defiles this nation’s future,
Royal Fraternities making slaves of US,
Where they own US as their servants.
Their Christmas Gift has no human heart.
It heartbeats have turned green gangrene.
Cancer that eats away with leaded toys,
Who treat the Earth like its trash subjects.
Such distain are these foul politicians
Who see war as carpetbagger profiting
Whose contracts outsource Blackwater
Immunity with immunity to any dignity.
These whores who sell themselves
To the Highest Corporate bidder
Selling their Patriot suit soul’s honor
Like Benedict Arnolds turned Redcoats.
Yes, it is Christmas time for politicians
Commercial adds claiming God’s image
Using a cross as benediction baptism
That somehow they are holier in looks.
But their religious fashions statements
Never reflect American soup line needs
Look at the flashy rich, rich backgrounds
Does it show our mainstream infrastructure?
God, one must surely cry in Christmas tears
Where Washington forgot its human heart
America Corporate religion looking away
While American drowned in political misery.
Lord, bless them for being truly heartless
For Washington has turned these lambs
Into vicious wolf packs political hounds
Sniffing for earmarks while we suffer.
Can you send these idiots a lump of coal
A gift from “We the people” dissatisfaction
With all they will get from the rest of US
They can build a bonfire to reflect upon.
Oh tears, oh tears, who are these Americans
Oh tears, running down the streets of America
Flooding so high - patriotism voting floodgates
Let them feel how it is
To be flushed out of office
In drowning despair.
Is that not a Christmas Gift
“We the people” could truly enjoy.
Merry Christmas to every one
Even politicians let this be a reminder
“We the people” own your job
“We the people” own the White House
“We the people” own our government.
“We the people” are not a part
Of any Corporate TAKE-OVER.
So CEO’s go see your Grinch.
Ebenezer Scrooge has turned in a lamb.
Note: I do not think I want to have the religion of any of the Presidential candidates. I think I will have a Liberal patriot one with a human heart of non-political love. I think they need lessons on the constitutional makeup of “We the people” and get out of Corporate asses. (Excuse me it should have been butts, but this, and but that, and but wait are their vocabulary.)
For the rest of US Merry Christmas and remember under that Christmas Tree lies the future of our children and their children to celebrate the American Dream that never must be extinguished.
Just think of Politicians and Corporate CEO Christmas Tree gifts and those without homes in Katrina’s aftermath, it seems those bridges going to nowhere have found there way, not to the needy, but to the Royalty of America.
Anybody know, where to get a lump of coal?
Merry Christmas Day, Fine Dems.
Looking back over last night and early morning, and the fact that the trolls were all here (the German from 9:00 his time Christmas Eve, and back on at 8:00AM his time Christmas morning. The old AZ fool all Christmas Eve and again this morning, and Sally and Thomass night and morning) all I have to say, and I say this sincerely, HOW VERY VERY SAD. Where are those wonderful children and families they brag about? The wives? The gift opening? The big Christmas Eve and Christmas day dinners with families and friends?
NOW I understand ! NOW I know what makes the hate twirl in their guts. They have no one! At least no one who cares that they are sitting on a computer during the holiest of holidays, the Holiday where normal people gather with their loved ones.
I am truly sorry for each of you. And that is said from the bottom of my heart.
{{{Dems}} Hope your Christmas Eve and Christmas day were as good as mine.
Blog ya all in the morn.

4. Why all of a sudden, Why does Al Gore have such a great interest in pushing this issue? Because he hopes to get a great deal of power, wealth, and maybe even to be known as "the man who saved the Earth". But I dare to say and ask you; save the earth from what? A natural occurance?
Beware!!! If these powers have their way, we will soon be nothing but victims of a power hungry horde of Corporate dictators, who will sit in luxury while the masses huddle in cold caves and live miserable lives as Corporate Carbon Credit slaves. And then no Constitutional laws, or Rights will be able to protect the simple man, woman or child. FIGHT THE GLOBAL WARMING SCAM!!!!!
Posted by Cpl_McBurd on December 25, 2007 at 04:54 AM
I have decided to answer the main question in number 4. WHY?
Because after the power hungry intiators of the Global Warming Scam have reached the first step which is that of Economical Control of the Worlds Trade markets; through the use of Carbon Credits, we will see a slow, but continual and increasing decline in the human population. The reason for this will be the continued use of scare tactics. They have already started this "scare" with the "Methane Myth". "Animals and humans are producing too much methane, its directly responsible for "Global warming" The result is that The Carbon Credits will be limited for such things as raising Beef,Pork and Poultry, and then expanded when people look for other means of obtaining animal protein. To shorten this up a little, the end effect will be that the human race will slowly die off. The only survivors will be VERY high officials of the Carbon Credit Corporation. They will of course have slaves to do such things as fill technical positisions so they will have electricity, Suv´s, farming and such life sustaining luxuries. They are striving for their very own personal Garden of Eden. Which is in their eyes, the Planet earth. They will be the sole inhabitants and rulers.
Global Warming is a Scam!!!!

TOBACCO #1
March 1, 2000; San Jose Mercury News
CLAIM: “It’s not fair to say, ‘Okay, after his sister died, he continued in the same relationship with the tobacco industry.’ I did not. I did not. I began to confront them forcefully. I don’t see the inconsistency there.”
TRUTH: The same month Gore’s sister died in 1984, he received a $1,000 speaking fee from U.S. Tobacco. The next year, he voted against cigarette and tobacco tax increases three times and favored a bill allowing major cigarette makers to purchase discounted tobacco. In the 1988 campaign, Gore bragged of his tobacco background: “I want you to know that with my own hands, all of my life, I put [tobacco] in the plant beds and transferred it. I’ve hoed it, I’ve dug in it, I’ve sprayed it, I’ve chopped it, I’ve shredded it, spiked it, put it in the barn, and stripped it and sold it” (Newsday, 2-26-88).
TOBACCO #2
March 1, 2000; San Jose Mercury News
CLAIM: “My family had grown tobacco. It was never actually grown on my farm, but it was on my father’s farm.”
TRUTH: Gore had already admitted growing tobacco on his own farm: “On my farm, we stopped growing tobacco some time after Nancy died” (Cox News Service, 4-26-99). Also, Gore received federal subsidies for growing tobacco on his farm (Wall Street Journal, 8-10-95).
INTERNET PROTECTION
December 17, 1999; Democratic debate on Nightline
CLAIM: “I helped to negotiate an agreement with the Internet service providers to put a parent-protection page up and give parents the ability to click on all the websites that their children have visited lately. That’ll put a lot of bargaining leverage in the hands of parents.”
TRUTH: Bartlett Cleland of the Internet Education Foundation, seven months earlier: “There was no Gore involvement. They hijacked this issue. He makes it sound like he led the project. I can’t imagine what he will invent tomorrow” (Washington Times, 5-6-99).
FEMALE STAFFERS
August 22, 1987; Associated Press
CLAIM: Gore “said half his campaign staff were women, and he would make half of a Gore Cabinet women.”
TRUTH: “But pressed by reporters later to name women on his staff, he fumbled and then mentioned one name, which later turned out to be incorrect.”
ARMS CONTROL
1984 Senate ad
CLAIM: Narrator says Gore “wrote the bipartisan plan on arms control that U.S. negotiators will take to the Russians.”
TRUTH: Ken Adelman, director of U.S. Arms Control and Disarmament Agency: “He had nothing to do with what we proposed to the Soviets” (Boston Globe, 4-11-00).

it is such a great gift that huckster and big love are running for the pelican nomination. they have injected religion into politics in a way that is sure to bite their party in the ass real hard in 08. huckster is about to join hands with this fool minister hagee from ( where else? ) texas who has thrashed the catholic church; "In a video discussing the biblical book of Revelation, John Hagee suggests the Pope is the anti-Christ, and that the Catholic Church is "The Beast" (17:30 and following) mentioned in the book."...
this is wonderful stuff as it will divide up the pelicans into various religious sects pitted against each other and weaken any national effort....bravo mister huckster....and with ghouliani getting the pounding for his various "oversights" things are going quite well for whichever democrat gets the nomination.
sure hope the trolls are here election night. gonna be some crow to eat...hahahaha
here is some light reading for the trolls as they spend their night here on our blog, festering and fuming in their oh so christian way....tut tut:
A Call for Citizen Empowerment
Sylvia N. Tesh
Barry Commoner and the Science of Survival: The Remaking of American Environmentalism. Michael Egan.
As conventionally written, the history of American environmentalism starts in 1962 with Rachel Carson and the publication of Silent Spring. From there it moves back to the conservation movement at the turn of the 20th century and then leaps forward to the first Earth Day in 1970, the creation of the Environmental Protection Agency, the passage of new environmental laws and the establishment of today's large environmental organizations. It is an upbeat narrative that emphasizes the quite astonishing success that environmentalism has had during these past four decades.
In Barry Commoner and the Science of Survival, Michael Egan tells a different story. The book is a history of American environmentalism from Commoner's perspective. Compared with the conventional account, it has an earlier starting date (the mid-1950s), a different cast of characters (almost all of them scientists), different environmental organizations (those that Commoner founded), a tighter focus (on the health risks of synthetic chemicals and radiation) and a more disappointing outcome (the environment is only barely less contaminated now than it was on the first Earth Day). Egan tells an absorbing tale about a remarkable man who is insightful, persistent, iconoclastic, informed and optimistic. Environmentalism today would be bolder and more robust, says Egan, if it took seriously the five books and dozens of articles that Commoner has written.
Commoner, who turned 90 in 2007, has a Ph.D. in cellular biology from Harvard and was a member of the faculty of the botany department at Washington University in St. Louis from 1947 to 1981. He has always been intensely political, insisting that the highest scientific standard demands not only careful, honest research but also attention to the social consequences of scientific work.
It is not surprising, then, that in the mid-1950s he joined the public debate about the health effects of exposure to fallout from nuclear-weapons testing. Egan devotes two chapters to this long controversy. After Commoner tried and failed to get the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) to support a resolution censuring the weapons-testing program, he switched his activist focus from organizing other scientists to educating the public. In 1958 he cofoundedthe Committee for Nuclear Information, a grassroots group in St. Louis that sought to bring information about nuclear testing to a broad audience. The group's work was critical to the passage of the 1963 Nuclear Test Ban Treaty, Egan says. He quotes Commoner's assertion in The Closing Circle (1971) that the treaty "should be regarded . . . as the first victorious battle in the campaign to save the environment—and its human inhabitants—from the blind assaults of modern technology."
From radioactive fallout, Commoner turned his attention to other environmental health hazards—first mercury and then all toxic compounds created by or produced as waste from industrial processes. In 1966, to study these hazards and educate the public about them, he founded the Center for the Biology of Natural Systems, a research institution he headed for the next 34 years, moving it in 1981 from Washington University to Queens College at the City University of New York. By 1970 Commoner's writings and speeches had gained him so much attention that Time magazine put him on the cover of its February 9th issue under the banner "Environment: Nixon's New Issue."
Today Commoner may be best known for his Four Laws of Ecology, which first appeared in The Closing Circle. The "laws" were not so much his invention as his coherent expression of the new ideas about nature that were animating the emerging environmental movement. The first law states that "everything is connected to everything else"; the Earth's intricate network of interacting parts is so highly balanced that disturbances in one place will have far-reaching effects. The second is that "everything must go somewhere"; there is no "away" where things can be thrown. Third, "nature knows best": It has been perfected over the eons and any human-made change is likely to be detrimental. And fourth, "there is no such thing as a free lunch"—that is, every solution to an environmental problem has a cost. If today these ecological edicts seem like common sense, that reaction is testimony to environmentalism's success; a generation ago they were startling.
Throughout his long career, which has more recently focused on genetic engineering and global warming, Commoner has developed three additional themes. One is that scientists and bureaucrats have no more authority to determine environmental policies than does the public. Scientists have an obligation to inform people about the results of their research, but scientific knowledge is provisional, so final policy decisions should be made by ordinary citizens. As Egan observes, Commoner's advocacy of such a vital public role in policy making implies a "radical overhaul" in the way democracy works in this country.
Another theme in Commoner's writing is that our environmental woes are caused not by greedy industries, weak laws or uneducated consumers, and certainly not by overpopulation. (Egan devotes a full chapter to the fight in the 1970s between Commoner and Paul Ehrlich on the overpopulation issue.) Part of the problem, argues Commoner, is that the government aims only to "manage" pollution rather than to eliminate it. But the fundamental villain is our economic system. In free-market capitalism, it is simply cheaper to degrade the environment than to protect it.
From this logic follows a third theme: that real environmental protection cannot occur in an economic structure based on private profit. Instead, protection requires a political economy that can take the health of the environment into account. Commoner approached this topic somewhat cautiously at first. Egan points out that in The Closing Circle Commoner wrote that "the socialist system may have an advantage over the private enterprise system with respect to the basic relationship between economic processes and ecological imperatives." Five years later, he ended The Poverty of Power (1976) with what Egan refers to as a "blistering critique of private enterprise and the capitalist system" and called outright for a transition to socialism.
It is unclear why Egan subtitles his book "The Remaking of American Environmentalism." Surely he is right that Commoner helped to make American environmentalism. But as Egan himself notes, after Earth Day 1970, the early hope by many that this would be a politically radical social movement began to fade. Today's environmentalists largely ignore Commoner except for his Four Laws. Earth Day is an occasion for corporations to boast about how green they are, the major environmental organizations are politically cautious, and the most popular environmental gurus preach only individual responsibility. Al Gore, for example, who has done a masterful job of calling attention to global warming, writes in An Inconvenient Truth (2006) that "each one of us is a cause of global warming"; thus our actions as consumers can solve the problem.
Commoner's legacy can be seen in the plethora of grassroots groups in poor communities focusing on environmental health risks and demanding real citizen participation in policy making. Egan has a chapter about these groups, showing that Commoner wrote about the unequal distribution of exposure to environmental toxicants long before anyone else. But the grassroots groups constitute merely a strand of environmentalism, not its remaking. And few of them call for the kind of political transformation that Commoner believes necessary.
Perhaps "the remaking of environmentalism" refers to the task facing Commoner and his followers. Would it be possible for environmentalism to embody Commoner's ideas—to become, if not a politically radical social movement, one with a strong radical wing? An answer requires understanding what Commoner is up against. But surprisingly, Egan gives little emphasis to the people, institutions or ideologies opposed to Commoner, except in the chapters about the AAAS and Paul Ehrlich.
It's even more surprising that Egan does not discuss a single problem with Commoner's themes. Ecologists now say that the Earth is never in balance. Genuine public participation in policy making is easily thwarted by private interests. And although clearly a nation's political economy is the basic cause of its environmental problems, few Americans want to embrace this kind of analysis—which after all implies a need for radical social change. Moreover, if the change is toward socialism, we lack a model showing that socialist countries do a better job of protecting the environment.
Egan's decision not to grapple with these fascinating issues is the book's major weakness. Had he explored them, he would have provided an even more interesting history of American environmentalism. And he could have given readers a clearer picture of how Commoner has navigated between utopianism and pragmatism all these years.

Republicans were arrested protesting a Republican in New Hampshire tonight.
The group of Republicans were protesting Giuliani because he's not conservative enough. Gotta love it. Let them destroy each other.
I am a resident of Mi.The polticians in Lansing moved the primary date to Jan 15..Now the DNC says they will not seat or count our deligates at the convention.
I had nothing to do with the moving of the date,The DNC has no reason to not count my primary vote .
Now to make this whole process fair ,we need one date all across the U.S. to hold the primaries and caucuses on.
Why should a small state like N.H.have more weight then Michigan.
My state has been totally devastated by Bush and his party.
The way the caucuses and primaries works now make a mockery out of Democracy!

Cal Thomas: Secular fundamentalists
By Cal Thomas
Tribune Media Services
Article Last Updated: 12/24/2007 05:48:07 PM MST
You don't have to be religious to qualify as a fundamentalist. You can be Al Gore, the messiah figure for the global warming cult, whose followers truly believe their gospel of imminent extermination in a Noah-like flood, if we don't immediately change our carbon polluting ways.
One of the traits of a cult is its refusal to consider any evidence that might disprove the faith. And so it is doubtful the global warming cultists will be moved by 400 scientists, many of whom, according to the Washington Times, "are current or former members of the U.N. Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) that shares the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize with Mr. Gore for publicizing a climate crisis." In a report by Republican staff of the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee, these scientists cast doubt on a "scientific consensus" that global warming caused by humans endangers the planet.
Like most cultists, the true believers struck back, not by debating science, but by charging that a small number of the scientists mentioned in the report have taken money from the petroleum industry. A spokeswoman for Al Gore said 25 or 30 of the scientists may have received funding from Exxon Mobile Corp. Exxon Mobile spokesman Gantt H. Walton dismissed the accusation, saying, "the company is concerned about climate-change issues and does not pay scientists to bash global-warming theories."
The pro-global warming cultists enjoy
a huge money advantage. Paleoclimate scientist Bob Carter, who has testified before the Senate Environment and Public Works committee, noted in an EPW report how much money has been spent researching and promoting climate fears and so-called solutions: "In one of the more expensive ironies of history, the expenditure of more than $50 billion (U.S.) on research into global warming since 1990 has failed to demonstrate any human-caused climate trend, let alone a dangerous one," he wrote on June 18, 2007. The $19 million spent on research that debunks the global warming faith pales in comparison.
Also included in the Republican report are comments by Dutch atmospheric scientist Hendrik Tennekes: "I find the Doomsday picture Al Gore is painting - a six-meter sea level rise, 15 times the IPCC number - entirely without merit. I protest vigorously the idea that the climate reacts like a home heating system to a changed setting of the thermostat: just turn the dial, and the desired temperature will soon be reached."
Oklahoma Sen. James M. Inhofe, ranking Republican on the Environment and Public Works Committee, said the report debunks Mr. Gore's claim that the "debate is over." In fact, the debate hasn't even begun because the global warming cultists won't debate. Despite numerous challenges, Al Gore has refused to debate the issue with any credible scientist who is a skeptic. Shouldn't the winner of the Nobel Peace Prize be willing to debate such an important issue? What does he have to fear? If his theory cannot stand up to scientific inquiry and skepticism, it needs to be exposed as a false religion and himself as a false prophet before he and his followers force us to change the way we live and alter the prosperous society that generations of Americans have built.
Gore and his disciples will still be living in their big houses, driving gas-guzzling cars and flying in private jets that leave carbon footprints as large as Bigfoot's, while most of us will be forced to drive tiny automobiles and live in huts resembling the Third World. But hypocrisy is just one of many traits displayed by secular fundamentalists like Gore.
Before adopting any faith, the agendas of the people attempting to impose it, along with the beliefs held by them and their disciples, should be considered. Gore and company are big government liberals who think government is the answer to all of our problems, including problems they create. In fact, as Ronald Reagan often said, in too many cases government is the problem.
The secular fundamentalists who believe in Al Gore as a prophet and global warming as a religious doctrine are being challenged by scientists and others who disbelieve and who think we ought to be spending more time on developing new technology and energy sources for the future and not preaching gloom, doom and retreat. Let them debate the issue. If they won't, we can only conclude that all they are spewing is hot air.

Sorry greggy but I don´t eat crow. I like Roast Turkey and Fried chicken.
I found that post quite interesting. The effect of the sun on our climate is an issue which cannot be ignored. I believe it plays a major part in this Global warming scam. Actually I think this scam is nothing but a plot to take over the world, slowly but surely, by dark and evil powers. The question is why? Is it because of Money? Or maybe the unquenchable thirst for power? Control? Or maybe even revenge? It´s taken awhile, but George Orwell´s 1984 could well be on its way. This crapolla about "carbon credits" is another thing that just stinks to high heaven.
The people need to open their eyes to the dangers of the Global warming scam, and the hucksters who are pushing it. It is a nightmare scenario, which can be avoided if we think with clear heads.
1. Global warming is a scam job. The climate always has, and always will changed. It is a proven fact that nobody can deny.
2. Certain Dark Powers are wanting to Build corporations that deal in Carbon Credits. If these dark powers have their way, they will soon control the Economies in every Country on Earth. We must not let this happen.
3. The so called "Green Movement" have cursed Nuclear Energy. They do not want Wind parks, or Hydroelectric Dams. Automobiles are also a no no.
Shall we then live in the dark ages?
4. Why all of a sudden, Why does Al Gore have such a great interest in pushing this issue? Why all of a sudden, Why does Al Gore have such a great interest in pushing this issue? Because he hopes to get a great deal of power, wealth, and maybe even to be known as "the man who saved the Earth". Because he hopes to get a great deal of power, wealth, and maybe even to be known as "the man who saved the Earth." But I dare to say and ask you; save the earth from what? But I dare to say and ask you; save the earth from what? A natural occurance? A natural occurance?
Beware!!! Beware! If these powers have their way, we will soon be nothing but victims of a power hungry horde of Corporate dictators, who will sit in luxury while the masses huddle in cold caves and live miserable lives as Corporate Carbon Credit slaves. And then not Constitutional laws, or Rights will be able to protect the single man, woman or child. FIGHT THE GLOBAL WARMING SCAM!!!!! FIGHT THE GLOBAL WARMING SCAM !!!!!
One thing that the global warming hucksters have fordotten though. They will soon find out that they won´t be able to trust each other, in their Garden of Eden. In order to sustain the Eutopian conditions, they will have to let the human slave multiply. The offspring will have to be educated in order to keep things running, and the fathers and mothers of this offspring will be teaching these children the not forgotten basic human principles. They will eventually rise up against this gross unjustice and turn against the scamming Hucksters. This will have the effect that the earth will be repopulated with normal thinking human beings. This brings us back to the old 2008 warcry of the radical libs: "the U.S. must loose, so we can win." Only in this case it will be "Global warming must come, so we can reign."

Maybe she is really a closet republican?
Here we go again... two grown men bonding and showing imagined power and control. It's another Brokeback Mountain moment for macho men Frosty and Red buddies.
Has anyone ever seen someone so jealous of Al Gore?
Not everybody can be Vice President and reside over record growth, and prosperity as Big Al. Is okay. It's good to see how the other side does it when given the same chance.
Too bad other VP's are not as smart as Gore, and have a beautiful family like Al's family. Don't hate him because you're jealous. Just admit it, Gore has the perfect American family, and America needs his proven leadership now more than ever.
Dems, can you believe they are going back to the "internet" lie? How pathetic and desperate can they get? It seems they fear Gore and Edwards the most. Just look at what they try to say about Gore to knock him down? They've got nothing.
I think Gore is too nice. I think he should call all the anti-science debaters a bunch of inbred idiot rejects who can't understand science. How stupid can they get?
Ways to stop producing carbon dioxide
Stop breathing - When you exhale you release carbon dioxide
Dont drive - We all know how bad driving is
Don't live in a house/apartment/condo or any building that uses gas or electricity - Homes produce 2-3 times as much carbon as cars.
Don't wear shoes or any sort of clothing produced in a factory. Grow a cotton field and make your own clothes by hand.
Quit school - Those school buildings produce more carbon in a year then you do in 20 years.
Eat meat raw - Wether your using gas or electric both produce carbon dioxide.
Turn off this monitor and computer - You hypocrite.
Don't use toilets, urinate or poo in your back yard.- The water to your house is cleaned and sent to your house using pumps that use electricity.
Stop exercising - Increasing your heart rate increases the amount of oxygen you take in and turn into carbon dioxide.
Die - Dying younger means you will do all of the above less. Living one year less means you will save the earth 8.4 tons of carbon dioxide every year your not here!

Trolls are saying that the Billion-plus modernized population can dump billions of tons into the atmosphere, combined with massive deforestation, and it will not have negative influence in nature?
Don't expect them to answer this. They know nothing... except lies from biased sources.
Dems, can you believe they are going back to the "internet" lie? It seems they fear Gore and Edwards the most.

Internet lie? how convienient. Look at the sick crap that you just posted. Just what makes Al gore A scientist? Nothing at all. H e never will be. He is a sore loser that invented this crapola to get revenge. he only knows what his "paid off" so called scientists tell him. They´ll do or say anything to get his tax-free hard cash payoffs.
Just compare Gore to Cheney and you will see why you should be on your knees worshipping Gore.
No Lies, No cooked up war, improved government efficiency, put good people in leadership positions, no older men in the National Guard fighting in Iraq for a democracy that they won't have.... during ANOTHER Christmas season, AND record peace and prosperity. Big difference, huh?
The trolls are Republican "wanna be's" who are going to be run over by the Democratic victory in '08. Their feeble posts here are like the last convulsions of a dying man. And they know that they and their party are marked for extinction, that's why they are so bitter.

How stupid are you to not understand the damage caused by air and water pollution? Is this how you respect America?
These Republicans really love America... so much that they will pollute it for the next generation. Some patriots.
I don't know if Gore is going to make any money or not off the global warming situation. If he does, good for him! He deserves to be compensated for all the time and effort he has put into this. And, I might point out, that Gore's earning (if any) will be earned honestly, not like the billions stolen from the American People by Bush, Cheney, their accomplices and cohorts in their phony "War on Terror" The only "war of Terror" they have conducted has been against the American People!

Belief System of the Year: Thanks to the scientific illiteracy of a gullible public, Global Warming has matriculated from a steaming junk science load into the foremost brand of supernaturalism on the planet. Energized by Messiah Al's hypnotic trance inducing droning, Gore's Global Warming disciples rival Mecca Maniacs when it comes to mindless, lunatic fringe, devotion.

Retail Rush Falls Short,
Now Come More Sales
By KRIS HUDSON, ANN ZIMMERMAN and VANESSA O'CONNELL
December 26, 2007; Page B1
Spurred by heavy discounting, U.S. shoppers spent furiously in the days just before Christmas. But holiday retail sales appeared to still fall short of industry expectations, setting the stage for bigger markdowns in the increasingly important post-Christmas period.
The 11th-hour rush helped strengthen a weak holiday season. From the day after Thanksgiving to midnight Monday, total retail sales, excluding automobiles, rose 3.6% over the previous year, according to MasterCard SpendingPulse, a unit of MasterCard Advisors. But factoring out spending on gasoline -- which soared thanks to a 27% average price increase since this time last year -- retail sales increased a lackluster 2.4%. Industry forecasts had predicted gains of 3.5% to as high as 4.5%...
Tree Hugger Brainfart of the Year: They nagged Elected Tormentors into outlawing incandescent bulbs, which give Mother Earth a boo-boo, and replaced Edison's invention with mercury-containing CFLs, which present a SERIOUS bio-hazard if broken. .
Is Generation short for the book "generation debt?"
Or is it a code for amount of time the Republicans lost in opposing green technology that Gore and science support?
Republicans opposed green technology and energy independence that Gore supported. Energy independence makes America more secure. Republicans opposing energy independence makes America insecure. Gore is right for making America stronger and more secure. Sorry you trolls don't understand science and security.
Gregg,...Tweedleedee and tweedledum, the dumfun illiterates, have, in your absence, had a field day bashing you most of the nigh. They are very tough when their target is not here to defend him/herself.

Frozen Rates, Falling Prices
By PETER SCHIFF
Published: December 26, 2007
THE Bush administration’s mortgage rescue plan will worsen, not alleviate, the problems in the housing market.
We are suffering from a home value crisis, not simply a credit crisis. If home prices were still rising, defaults would be low, investment returns would be high, borrowers would still be cashing out equity, and lenders would be showering credit on home buyers.
Falling prices reverse this dynamic. A recent study by the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston found that most foreclosures result from falling home prices, not from the resetting of mortgage rates.
And if rates are frozen for some subprime mortgages, standards for most new loans will become increasingly strict. Lenders will have to factor in the added risk of having their contracts rewritten when borrowers default. Higher down payments, mortgage rates and required credit scores — along with lower loan-to-income ratios and perhaps the death of adjustable-rate loans altogether — will further push down home prices.
Whether or not their payment levels are frozen, borrowers with loans that are greater than the values of their homes will have few incentives to keep paying their mortgages or to maintain their properties. Why spend more on a home in which they have no equity and which they may lose to foreclosure anyway?
Having put nothing down or having extracted equity in previous refinances, most subprime borrowers will lose nothing financially from foreclosure. In some cases the low teaser rates allowed them to pay less than what they might otherwise have paid in rent. The real losses are borne by the lenders.
Proponents suggest that a rate freeze will buttress home prices by keeping foreclosed homes off the market. But that is a stay of execution, not a pardon. Most homes temporarily saved from foreclosure will continue to depreciate as new buyers fail to qualify for loans. Lenders will be on the hook for even more losses than if the foreclosures had taken place sooner.
Everyone seems to agree that a return to traditional lending standards is a good idea, but no one seems willing to accept a return to rational prices as a consequence.
While the bubble was inflating, self-serving explanations were offered for why traditional formulas of home valuation no longer applied. As it turns out, the laws are still in effect. These traditional measures, like the relationship between home prices, rents and income, indicate that prices need to fall at least 30 percent more nationally. The sooner this balance is achieved, the sooner lenders will again commit capital.

A COUPLE of days before Al Gore was awarded his Nobel Peace prize, Michael Burton, an English High Court judge and apparently a fine film critic, ruled that Al's Oscar-winner An Inconvenient Truth was prone to "alarmism and exaggeration" and identified nine major factual errors.
For example, the former vice-president predicts a rise in sea levels of 6m "in the near future". "The Armageddon scenario he predicts," declared Burton, "is not in line with the scientific consensus."
I'll say. The so-called scientific consensus of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change suggests rising sea levels across the next century of somewhere between 15cm and 60cm, with about 30cm being most likely. An Inconvenient Truth insouciantly adds a zero to the worst-case scenario.
And nobody minds. His Honour was examining the vice-president's acclaimed crockumentary because the British Government, in its wisdom, has decided to force-feed it to hundreds of thousands of schoolchildren. It would be nice to think it would have to be preceded by a warning that any resemblance between this film and any actual planet living or dead is entirely coincidental, but it seems more likely that the Nobel Peace imprimatur will completely insulate the picture from even the most modest quibbles.
A schoolkid in Ontario was complaining the other day that, whatever subject you do, you have to sit through Gore's movie: It turns up in biology class, in geography, in physics, in history, in English.
Whatever you're studying, it's all you need to know. It fulfils the same role in the schoolhouses of the guilt-ridden developed world that the Koran does in Pakistani madrassas. Gore's rise is as remorseless as those sea levels. I assumed Gore's clammy embrace would do for the environmental movement what his belated endorsement had done for Howard Dean's 2004 presidential candidacy: kill it stone dead. But governor Dean was constrained by actual humdrum prosaic vote tallies in Iowa and New Hampshire. The ecochondriacs, by contrast, seem happiest when they're most unmoored from reality.
That's where Gore comes in. No matter how you raise the stakes ("It might take another 30 Kyotos", says Jerry Mahlman of the National Centre for Atmospheric Research), Saint Al of the Ecopalypse can raise them higher. Climate change, he says, is the most important moral, ethical, spiritual and political issue humankind has ever faced. Ever. And not just humankind, but alienkind, too. "We are," warns Gore, "altering the balance of energy between our planet and the rest of the universe".
Wow. It's not just the Maldive Islands, but the balance of energy between Earth and the rest of the universe. You wouldn't happen to have the stats on that, would you? Universal "balance of energy" graphs for 1940 and 1873? Gore is the logical reductio of what the popular Australian blogger Tim Blair calls global warm-mongering: Worst-case scenario, with all the zeroes you want on the end, and then a few more for holes in the ozone layer as yet undreamt of. Anyone can, as the environmentalists advise, think globally and act locally, but only Gore thinks cosmically and acts not at all.
One can forgive youthful indiscretions, like his 1988 presidential candidacy, when he became the first and only politician in US history to hire a herd of cows for the launch of his campaign, positioning them attractively around him for the photo op at the supposed Gore "family farm". The contribution to global warming from increased methane from bovine flatulence in the Gore neighbourhood was no doubt "offset" by reduced flatulent emissions from whichever farm he'd hired the cows from: it was, in that sense, a "carbon-neutral" event.
But since then there's been a pronounced pattern of behaviour. In 2000, it was revealed that his tenant, Tracy Mayberry, has asked her distinguished landlord to fix the plumbing. The toilet overflowed and the tank was held together by bread bag ties. This was after Gore had inflicted federal toilet regulations on the rest of the country in the interest of water conservancy, yet he let his own tenant's lavatory overflow for months on end. Americans have to make do with cisterns that hold less than a supersized cup at McDonald's, but Environmental Boy had a Niagara-sized torrent running through his tenants' bathroom and down the stairs 24 hours a day. After Channel 5 in Nashville ran a story, he eventually called Tracy and invited himself to dinner so they could get to know each other. But Mayberry, a Democrat, told the vice-president he could "kiss my ass", which given the state of sanitation on the property was probably not a wise idea.
An isolated incident? Well, the average US household consumes 10,656 kilowatt-hours of electricity. In 2006, the Gores wolfed down nearly 221,000kWh.
221,000kWh? What's he doing in there? As his spokesperson explained it, his high energy usage derives from his brave calls for low energy usage. He's burning up all that electricity by sending out faxes every couple of minutes urging you wastrels to use less electricity. Insofar as he's made any contribution to global peace, it's in persuading large swaths of a narcissistic Western world to busy itself with non-solutions to pseudo-crises to such a distracting degree that al-Qa'ida may wind up imposing the global caliphate without having to fire a shot.
As for the climate, you could take every dollar spent on "global warming" and blow it on internet porn, and the Earth's climate in 2050 will be pretty much what it would be anyway. Meanwhile, Gore is now being urged to jump into the presidential race and save Democrats from the allegedly too-hawkish Hillary Clinton. I doubt he will.
But you'll know he's considering it if he starts slimming down faster than the Antarctic shelf. When Al Gore starts getting carb-neutral, we're really in trouble.

anyone with half a brain can see the global warming scam is a money and power grab by the elites-- an easy way to place us all under the control of a know-it-all fascistic force that will tell you when you can fart and how much it will cost you.
grow up losers. the whole solar system is heating up now. or is our pollution so bad it is affecting Mars!??
Gaia will be here and intact LONG AFTER we make ourselves extinct. God only wants you to use your brain and do what is smart, not to pledge allegiance to false ecology religions based in bullshit.
I swear, for every one of you grousing how the right is filled with idiots, I can clearly point at the pinhead left too.
good morning goodfoe. being bashed on a blog hurts about as much as being pummeled by duck feathers. the cretins seem all atwitter about global warming, their leader sally assured them that it was "just a fad" and would pass shortly. now that the pope, corporations, bush, huckabee and the rest are all on board the trolls are spinning around like the gremlin in the movie "gremlins" that gets stuffed in the food processor...it is really quite amusing. this coupled with their rejection of the theory ( read "fact" ) of evolution makes them a small and peculiar group indeedy-do...i don't find it necessary to defend myself from this crap from young republicans but enjoy the occasional shot at their mothers ( who must wish those battery acid douches had worked when the cretins were concieved )...

Peter Schiff nails it in his article. Just another example of the greed and deceit in the Bush administration, an other example on Bush's wonderful economy that he and his Republican criminal co-conspirators have created."The economy is sound" just another lie! It will be generations before America and American workers recover from 8 years of this buffoon's mis-management and criminal theft of the taxpayers money.
thats right dan we want to come to your home and use the outhouse without digging the pit, then we want to eat your grits without growing any corn and then we want to tell your damn dog to get off our leg and climb back up on top of your mom.....

What about the gullable people who are taking money that they could be using for food, cloths and housing and are throwing it in "messiah Al face"? Do you think he gives a reats ass where that money comes from? I think not.
800 million, in cash, just walked out of the central bank in Baghdad, in just one little episode in which supervision by "Republican loyalists" expedited theft of taxpayers money. How much of this particular little theft wound up in Paraguay and in Carlyle coffers we will never know.

Explain to me how I am throwing money at Al instead of buying groceries. Feeding my three grandchildren that we are raising is expensive and with the sharp increases in both food and gasoline prices, we, like most Americans, thanks to George Bush, don't have any money to throw at Al or anywhere else. You are grabbing at straws as your ship sinks!
no dan it is easier to rip off suckers like you...hey are you gonna finish that possum and crow pie???? hahahahaha
goodfoe you have an amazing capacity to actually try to reason with these clowns whose only purpose is to gum up this blog with their nonsense. but if we keep them up past sunrise they may all turn to dust!

When the fox is guarding the hen house, it is hard to do. You don't really expect any of the Republicans involved and paid off in this theft to step forward and raise their hands and say, "We did it." do you?
Posted by gregg on December 26, 2007 at 07:32 AM
That was some of the smaller theft, a trial run. They later took a Billion dollar shipment and stole aprox. 850 million at one time. All under Republican mangement and supervision. They were nice, they tried to make it look good and cover up their theft by not taking it all. They left some and then pleaded ignorance as to where the rest was. "You mean there was more than this? I didn't know that." And the Bush administration has been totally indifferent to this theft. Just kind of blew it off as pocket change.

Profit Outlook Darkens for Big Banks
By DAVID REILLY and DAVID ENRICH
December 26, 2007; Page C1
For major banks, the next few years will be a return to a simpler and possibly less-profitable time.
The subprime crisis and ensuing credit crunch have thrown a wrench into the highly profitable bank business model: Make loans that are then sold off to investors while arranging corporate financing through off-balance-sheet vehicles that keep banks' capital costs down.
Now, banks are holding on to more of the loans they make, as they did years ago. And the off-balance-sheet lending business is crippled. It isn't clear how long this will last, or how the banking model might evolve in response to the current market crisis. What is clear is that some of the banks' more profitable lines of business have been shut, either temporarily or permanently...
...ah the poor banks, their little game of moving bad loans into pension plans and so on is over and now they have to eat their own crap..."some of the banks' more profitable lines of business" such as highway robbery, usury and three card monte games are no longer seen as respectable capitalist strategies....too much!

First, I don't have to go and buy a gun, I own several. I have never robbed a bank which is more than I can say for the Republican Party and third, I am not lazy, I worked from time I was ten years old until I was disabled by cancer at the age of 64. In case you can't count, that's 54 years. How long have you worked at honest work?
Whos money, yours or taxpayers money you get each month ?
Posted by Dan5 on December 26, 2007 at 07:43 AM
Since I worked for over 54 years and had a high income the last twenty, I paid in the maximum contribution to social security for many years and it is my own money, without interest, that I am receiving each month. Any thing else you would like to know?
Posted by Dan5 on December 26, 2007 at 08:07 AM

dan, i hate freedom, i want your money, i am poor as a church mouse, i eat from garbage cans, i wish i had a great job where i could stay up all night and blog at a site where i am hated....gosh it must be great to be you....hahahahahaha
dan, did you buy your mom some carbona for christmas because she has taken to huffing the chain saw mix and with that pall mall dangling from her lip we could be in for some trouble....

JohnBoy, I have noticed over the years, that those Republicans who say they vote Republican because they think too many people try and live off the Government, ARE THE ONES who never made anything out of themselves their entire lives ! Forced into the military by parents who could not handle their destructive behavior. mediocre jobs their entire lives (road construction???? Peter Claussen, official American cultural attache' will find that of interest) Yet these are the small men who cannot tolerate giving a helping hand to those in need ! They would just as soon see women and children dying on the street corner, as to have a dollar sent to the government to help. These are not REAL men.

If you claim to do the Lord's work while slamming the weak, the poor and the downtrodden, then you are the worst possible kind of hypocrite and will burn in hell forever!
I had to chuckle over this one ! New Hampshire voters flocking to change their affiliation from Republican. One cannot look themselves in the mirror anymore , when registered as a Republican !
The explosive growth in independents continues among New Hampshire's electorate.
Before the 1996 presidential primary, so-called undeclared voters constituted 27.8 percent of registered voters in the Granite State, but this year, the percentage has soared to 44.9 percent, Secretary of State William M. Gardner said yesterday.
Republicans, who 12 years ago made up 41.7 percent of the presidential primary electorate, now constitute 29.4 percent, Gardner said.

FL: Anti-Gay Marriage Amendment Forced On Ballot To Lure Conservatives To Polls
It hasn't even held its potentially irrelevant primary yet, but Florida is already being described as the hot spot in November's general election when a new initiative will be on the ballot - one that it is believed could decide whether the Sunshine State turns blue or remains red. The initiative - being sponsored by the conservative Liberty Council - is being called the Anti-Gay Marriage Amendment.

The folder I have on you is a bunch of sick, sorry trash, from an old man who has absolutely NO LIFE outside of his finding this blog to post his hatred on! Like I said before, what on earth would you be doing with any woman who would have anything to do with the likes of YOU? All day and night, including the holiest of holidays, sitting on his computer? She does not wonder or does she just not care? me thinks the latter !
John boy, when this guy kicks the bucket in a year or two, he will find the Lord turns his back on him, and he will be just another one of Satan's children!

I am hearing more and more people my age, sixty and over, saying that 21st century America isn’t the same country that they grew up in. Never before since the Civil War have we been so divided in beliefs. Our whole nation is stricken with the “It’s all about me” self-centeredness, that it is undermining America’s very existence as a nation.
Our current Administrations need for oil in the Middle East is a prime example. Capitalism is fast becoming our Achilles heel as more and more corporations move to the global marketplace –for cheap labor cost, leaving many Americans unemployed or underemployed. Another example is the vast influx of the Hispanic population, from Mexico, flooding across our borders in record numbers: taking away even more jobs. Plus the abhorrent greed of the Health care system, as doctors and pharmaceutical companies vie to get rich rather than heel the masses, is still another prime example.
What’s even worse, however, is how our twenty-something and thirty-something generation is coming to believe that anyone over the age of sixty is a financial obstacle to their own financial future and retirement. What’s next perhaps, Soylent Green maybe closer in time and reality than we think.
