Good Afternoon,

Polling Analysis

This error in polling is like a jingle that I cannot get out of my head. Every model that I try to create and review the actual votes cast by region cannot substantiate the explanation by the news networks.

1) How can a pollster get a 8-20% error?

A national pollster hires 10 local people to go around with a set of questionnaire. Each person would be required to poll 5 to 10 people each day for 5 days to get between 500 to 1000 good polling results. Under this condition, to generate a 8-20% error margin, two of the pollsters would have to ballot stuff their polling questionnaires 100% with Obama to generate the error! That’s 20% (or 2:10) of the workers in the polling station.

2) The pollsters only polled from the universities who typically vote for Obama.

If this is true than the actual votes from the university towns would reflect the 8-20% deviation in the polling. The problem is when one review the actual votes from the university towns the spread was not that wide! Where is the data to collaborate this?

3) The equivalent of 40,000 NH residences lied to the pollsters.

Or 20% of the voting population, must have lied to the pollsters. Well, the pollsters would not know who was lying, therefore for this argument to be true 20+% of the entire population of NH residents would have to lie to pollsters. Where is the evidence that 20% of all NH residences lied to the pollsters? Again this would require a trail that is as wide as the brown stain on Bill-O’s pants!!

4) How did 4-5 major national pollsters all get large errors like that shown the day before the primary?

The only method to explain that institutional error margins is by using my first example. Where 4-5 national pollsters have 1-2 moles within their ranks that allowed 100% ballot box stuffing. See, most national pollsters have supervisors that check the data to make certain the entire data set is not stuffed with a single candidate. Therefore the only person who could have perpetrated this propaganda activity is “Statistical Speaking” a supervisor of a polling station. No one else would have been allowed to let 20% of their employees conduct a 100% ballot box stuffing.

Now do you understand why I am so troubled by the data and statistics presented and the error margin these polls predicted. So effectively 4-5 supervisor level personel at a polling station commited this propaganda error!

Concerned!

If I ever get around to cllecting the hundred or so paragraphs I write on different things and DON'T post here, I might put them on a blog.

Any of y'all ever do that? Start writing a post here that turns into a mini-essay and rambles on and on, and then just save it to a file for later, cuz it seems a ridiculous thing to post?

Any of you here wish I'd do that with MOST of my posts? :)

You haven't addressed the 800-pound monkey in the room, Hybrid. As much as I hate to admit the possibility of it, I think Sen. Obama paid the "Harold Ford tax" in NH that he didn't pay in IA. I also think some college kids who were polled did not vote or changed their minds. Furthermore, a significant portion of Sen. Clinton's voters came from underprivileged areas. It has been my experience that the lower an education level usually means a lower tolerance for people outside of their ethnic or religious castes.

GregL,

When I go past big-rant into essay, I generally carry it to PartyBuilder then post links on the other political blogs. Lazy? Perhaps, but it's easier than cross-posting, copying and pasting. I have so little time during the day (and none in the evening since I'm either maintaining a load of web sites or studying my fiddle) that writing a BA post out once is just fastest for me. If it's state-level, I head for BlueNC. Sometimes Barb cross-posts stuff for me at Nightbird's Fountain. I never know where I'll end up when the Muse starts pecking my shoulder.

HillWilliam4Edwards08 on January 10, 2008 at 03:43 PM

Sorry to all those people at this BLOG for rambling on about the polling error. I just cannot get the polling data out of my head.

One can construct a Boolean logic truth table and perform the math through logic that solution will point to the supervisor level or higher personnel at the polling station as the person involved in this propaganda polling result.

One can do setup a matrix math table enter the statistical information and solve for the Eigen Vector to the matrix and it will point to the supervisor level or higher personnel at the polling station. (I did not perform the complete analysis using this mathematical model can cause a brain hemorrhage therefore I decided to put on my Tin-Hat with lighting rod instead!)

BobVADemHawk,

I did address the error related to only collage kids polled.

Firstly the supervisor of that polling station would have to be involved in such a gross misjudgement.

Secondly there were 4-5 national pollster in NH and there are only 3 major univisities. All 4 or 5 pollsters commited the same error? Hard to believe?

Where is the evidence that all 4-5 national pollsters allowed their supervisors of the polling stations to commit the same mistake?

HybridFuel on January 10, 2008 at 03:53 PM

I like John Kerry however I do have to say that I disagree with the fact that he has given his support to Barack Obama instead of Hillary Clinton. Why do I say this? I'm looking at the big picture which is the national election this November. Hillary is the one with the best chance to beat the Repubicans. Bush has been the divider but Hillary will be the one to bring real change and bring us together and strong as a nation. What Democrat voters need to do is take a long hard look and think into the future of November. If by any chance Democrats decide to give the nomination to Obama over Hillary I see it as a big mistake because he doesn't have the experience which is exactly why Republicans want Obama to win because they will hammer away at his lack of experience especially on the National Security issue where Hillary has much more knowledge and Republicans will use the politics of fear like they did last time on this issue which would probably get Independents on their side which would result with us being stuck with more of the same far right Republicans which is something I don't want to see. Many countries also know Hillary much better and after the horrible choices the Bush administration have made over the years this is another reason why we need Hillary to help gain us back the respect at home and around the world so this way we can properly deal with the issues of today. Senator Obama is a good person, he means well but his chances to win a national election aren't nearly as good as they would be with Hillary. Think about it. Do we really want to see 2004 history repeat itself again? I know I don't, I've had enough of the Bush/Cheney failures, they have ruined us!

Those wacky "fiscal" conservatives are at it again:

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Telephone companies have cut off FBI wiretaps used to eavesdrop on suspected criminals because of the bureau's repeated failures to pay phone bills on time.

A Justice Department audit released Thursday blamed the lost connections on the FBI's lax oversight of money used in undercover investigations. Poor supervision of the program also allowed one agent to steal $25,000, the audit said.

Margot,

That ain't even the half of it, dear. That was as much as I could think of, blogging in haste and writing VB code at the same time. But let them off scot-free with any of it? Hell, no.

Every time I think of seeing those trucks in front of the community center and all the TV coverage of it, I still get that knot in my stomach. My partner and I still call it The Day America Died.

That's the only reason I prefer Edwards over the rest of the candidates. All the rest have been too close to the problems for too long; while I believe they'll make inroads into the massive GOP corruption, I don't think they can go after it as effectively as Edwards. With the revelations on Monday that the CIA has been blackmailing and threatening Congressionals on both sides of the aisle, it's hard for me to trust any one of the Dem candidates as much as I do him.

However, the worst pick on the Dem side is light-years above the very, very best on the Republic side. At the end of the day, I'm poking a (D) button in November regardless.

Then I'm settin' around and writing letters to make sure they remember that we spoke.

Well, just remember to poke all the way through. We can't have any more of those hanging chads!

The thing that I'm concerned about are these computer voting machines. I would much rather write my vote on a scrap of paper than punch it into a machine made by a corporation that is supported by the Repubs. It's like that Robin Williams movie "Man of the Year." Who's to say that they won't write a program that changes every 64th D vote to R. Technology is good for some things, but not everything.

Hello BobVADemHawk,

1) I do not believe 4-5 pollsters all polled only university students. Show me the data that all the data were collected on Unversity Campuses.

2) Typical pollsters go to supermarkets. Everyone have to eat, Democrats, Republicans and Independents have to eat. Therefore if they polled at supermarkets, like they always do, every political type would be polled. Therefore even independents would have been polled. Therefore it is hard for me to believe that independents were not polled!

3) There are no evidence to suggest only university students were polled and no independents were polled. If you live long enough through many elections, everyone has seen a pollster at a supermarket and everyone has seen a Democrat, a Republican and an Independent at the supermarket. Anyone not buying food for themselves are either too rich or too poor to buy food for themselves. In MH there are not that many homeless people in the winter. It was bitterly cold!

Grrr, had a whole long post on the fact that no matter who our candidate is, they'll definitely be more progressive than the other side, but we still need to make sure that whoever gets the nomination, they don't slip over to the DLC side. The DLC has been a disaster for this country, an insidious bunch of conservative snakes in the midst of a progressive party.

My big pet peeve...We already make distinctions in this country between CIVIL marriage and RELIGIOUS marriage, so stop trying to use that appeasement of the church shit for "civil unions". Anyone who uses the "marriage is for procreation" bullshit don't seem to care that there are men and women who marry and don't procreate. Marriage has been about a lot of things over the course of human history, but at this particular point in time, it's about saying "I want this person to share the largest part of my life, to share in the decisions facing me in all things." It's about love, stupid. Face up to it, anyone who is against two people of the same sex marrying is a bigot, plain and simple. A rose is still a rose, and a marriage is still a marriage, and trying to find common ground by calling it something else is going to be opposed by both sides forever, no matter that both sides have different reasons. The way to win support for it is to play to the underlying feelings about love and commitment...

See, this is one of those posts I'm talking about...people will probably think I'm nuts. :)

GregL on January 10, 2008 at 04:30 PM

I swear, the MSM probably just sat around and made up numbers to go with their stories about Hillary crying and being a bitch. Hardly anything they've reported has been close to factual. They're in too good with the parties and the candidates to provide accurate information. They're paying Obama, so he'll be favored. Republicans hate Hillary, so her news will be negative. Edwards doesn't accept corporate campaign contributions, so he'll be left out. They should start selling tickets to those circuses. Oh wait, I pay an arm and a leg in for my cable bill (all for the History Channel).

I wrote reams about this before 2004 on this very blog. I work with the same platform upon which most DRE's are based. We don't trust it that much and have overbuilt our code to keep transactions as safe and accountable as possible. Our back-end software on the server side has safeguard after safeguard after integrity-check built in just in case.

Mind you, that's just for tracking maintenance to DOT standard for commercial vehicles.

Every choice in components or technique we threw out as either too unstable, too unworkable, or too prone to outside interference is exactly what Diebold went for. Worse, they used NO care in auditing nor safeguarding the most important information in an election -- the votes and audit trails. Hell, you could go in with a plain old Access query and make those results say anything you wanted to.

Evidence is, they did. Repeatedly. If most Americans -- even half the voting population -- understood what I do about that platform, they'd have been rioting in the streets. Diebold and the RNC took advantage of Americans' understandable ignorance of the vulnerabilities and shortcomings of the platform and ran with it.

Quite frankly, I wouldn't trust my shopping list to it, let alone my vote.

I and millions of others are still awaiting redress.

If I'm not mistaken it wasn't that university students were polled. It's that students took the polls.

I remember being that age in New Hampshire and it gets very cold up there. Our supervisors encouraged us to fill up our sheets as soon as possible so we could get warm again. For the most part, we tried to be accurate, but sometimes the frozen toes and fingers encouraged us to put down anything just to get warm! Those supervisors knew that a lot of the polling wasn't always accurate but didn't care. I find that today's inacuracies are probably worse than they were before. Some of the pollers just didn't care to get it right.

Your brain is about to explode. We don't want that to happen to you. Your posts are too important.

Kerry has come out to endorse Obama, and while I am not going to vote of Obama, I personally feel this particular endorsement is not good for him as people view Kerry as losing the 2004 presidential election, Kerry’s image as a flip-flopper, and slow response to be being swiftboated, and the like. So, what do you think if Mike Bloomberg jumps in on the bandwagon in March? I think in the long run that will turn out well for Hillary. I think by March we will be down to two people fighting for the Democratic nomination; Hillary vs. Obama. A lot of people might go for Obama because they don’t like Clinton. But if Bloomberg jumps in, probably as an independent, then the Hillary haters won’t vote for Obama and vote for Bloomberg. It’s what I call the Nader/spoiler effect. I think this will bode well for Hillary. Or by March will the Democrats have their nominee because it is after Super Tuesday?

AP Poll: Bush, Congress Remain Unpopular

WASHINGTON (AP) - President Bush and Congress retained their dismal levels of popularity and huge majorities are unhappy with how things are going in the country, according to a poll released Thursday.

Thirty-four percent said they approved of the job Bush is doing, about where his ratings have been for more than a year, according to the poll by The Associated Press and Ipsos. Twenty-six percent said they were happy with Congress' performance, little different than where it has been for months.

Those "snakes" (i.e. Reagan Democrats) you refer to are the ones who made it possible for a majority of Democrats to be elected to Congress in 2006. Those "snakes" are the only thing keeping this party from being stuck at 35% - 40% national support. And it those "snakes" that counter the perceived whack jobs of this party such as Kucinich and Sheehan which maintains a level of credibility that the sheeple can appreciate. 2008 is the wrong year to bite the hand that feeds you unless you want a President Huckabee or President McCain. The controversial newsletters include rants against the Israeli lobby, gays, AIDS victims and Martin Luther King Jr. -- described as a "pro-Communist philanderer." One newsletter, from June 1992, right after the LA riots, says "order was only restored in L.A. when it came time for the blacks to pick up their welfare checks."

Another says, "The criminals who terrorize our cities -- in riots and on every non-riot day -- are not exclusively young black males, but they largely are. As children, they are trained to hate whites, to believe that white oppression is responsible for all black ills, to 'fight the power,' to steal and loot as much money from the white enemy as possible."

In some excerpts, the reader may be led to believe the words are indeed from Paul, a resident of Lake Jackson, Texas. In the "Ron Paul Political Report" from October 1992, the writer describes carjacking as the "hip-hop thing to do among the urban youth who play unsuspecting whites like pianos."

The author then offers advice from others on how to avoid being carjacked, including "an ex-cop I know," and says, "I frankly don't know what to make of such advice, but even in my little town of Lake Jackson, Texas, I've urged everyone in my family to know how to use a gun in self defense. For the animals are coming."

It has been my experience that the lower an education level usually means a lower tolerance for people outside of their ethnic or religious castes.

Well, Bob, I only have a high school education, but my best guy friend in high school was black and we even went to the prom together. Oh, yeah, and I may be poor, but have an IQ of 127.

I hope that blows your stereotyped theory all to hell.

To all,

We need to consider revoking President Bush's passport and he has already revoked his own Habus Corpus rights and let him try to figure out how to reenter a country that considers him a Terrorist!!

I know that I have a hard time keeping track of my bills because I'm so busy counting all the money I've defrauded from the American people. I guess that happens sometimes.

I originally just had the 1, but I added the plus sign because I didn't want to underestimate by too much. Also, here's a link for the Bushies National Foundation for Credit Counseling.

Maybe the Democrats didn't accomplish as much as they wanted to in Congress this year. But they are headed in the right direction. I'm not one to predict, but I just have a feeling that they will be able to turn America in the right direction during the coming cycles.

Dearest Democrats,

Do you want to tell these Republicans to go fuck themselves?

Tell Fed Chairman to increase the interest to the banks and ask Bernaki to tell the banks to back the loan from Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid trust fund with real assets. Tell the banks, if they want the money from Social Security Trust Fund, Medicare Trust Funds and Medicaid Trust funds then they need to back the loans with real gold, real stocks and real bonds@!@!

George Bush doesn’t like the Constitution. Especially that part where the Senate has to confirm his appointments. Remember when he wanted coal industry executive Richard Stickler to head the Mine Safety agency? Stickler was turned down by the Senate twice. So in late 2006 Bush did what he does and gave Stickler a recess appointment. Now that the recess appointment has expired, Bush has found that by putting “acting” at the beginning of a job title, he can appoint people whenever he likes?

FBI wiretaps dropped due to unpaid bills

WASHINGTON -- Telephone companies have cut off FBI wiretaps used to eavesdrop on suspected criminals because of the bureau's repeated failures to pay phone bills on time.

A Justice Department audit released Thursday blamed the lost connections on the FBI's lax oversight of money used in undercover investigations. In one office alone, unpaid costs for wiretaps from one phone company totaled $66,000.

What people do not understand is the wealthest trust funds in the world are Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid trust fund.

When the treasury loans money to the biggest banks in the world they are borrowing from these trust funds!!

If you want these trust funds to pay for your retirement, medical insurance and other ailments, then you need to tell the feds to get real assets in return for the loan!!

I, too, have but a High School diploma and a certificate for a CADD class at a community college paid for with my GI Bill. Having said that, there are exceptions to the rule. Y'all are obviously such. It has been my experience, with emphasis on my experience, that bigots are usually dumb as a box of rocks with little to no education. If your experience is different, that's fine, please let me know as you have here.

This is why Edwards is the man. He has more class than any of the other candidates in the race.

Chapel Hill, North Carolina – John Edwards released the following statement today about Senator John Kerry's endorsement of Senator Barack Obama.

"Our country and our Party are stronger because of John's service, and I respect his decision. When we were running against each other and on the same ticket, John and I agreed on many issues. I continue to believe that this election is about the future, not the past, and that the country needs a President who will fight aggressively to end the status quo and change the Washington system and to give voice to all of those whose voices are ignored in the corridors of power."

76
margotb822 on January 10, 2008 at 06:50 PM

Kerry has come out to endorse Obama, and while I am not going to vote of Obama, I personally feel this particular endorsement is not good for him as people view Kerry as losing the 2004 presidential election, Kerry’s image as a flip-flopper, and slow response to be being swiftboated, and the like

I had to laugh again tonight, as CNN was talking about Kerry endorsement, and she reiterated "Kerry has a file of 3,000,000 supporters"!

I said Bullshit ! He still has the names of those of us who gave money and time when he ran in 2004! the MAJORITY of us, do not consider ourselves "Supporters" ! #1- he folded the very first day, instead of contesting Ohio. #2- I sent money for that 'extra fund" he was collecting right before the election in case he needed to take the votes to court. WHERE is that?

Might as well take my name off your list John, because I will not be sending money nor listening to you and your choices.

Apparently you didn't read ANY of the links. ALL votes are ON PAPER. A hand count can be demanded. Wait for the results of the "Undecided" 40% to be extrapolated into the demographic breakdown,

If almost HALF of the Electorate made up their minds within 2 days of their vote, THERE IS NO CONSPIRACY!

It's STILL a 3 way race. Hillary won by 3%. BFD.

Edwards is still in it. Obama won one and lost one.Clinton lost one and won one.

SHUT UP, ALL YOU JUNIOR CHRIS MATTHEWS WANNA BE'S!!

Nice. No, I didn't read all the links. I know NH used both machines and paper to vote. The voting machines are in question. The paper ballots are often counted with machines, so they are not exempt from e-fraud. I've heard the media try to rule out fraud for paper ballots. I find this disingenuous because paper ballots are counted by machines running secret software created by private, partisan companies. I suggest you read one link: www.blackboxvoting.org

btw, The media was telling that undecided 40% for more than a day that Obama had a "double-digit" lead, and was going to win. These false polls did influence the electorate for Obama, because it's well proven that people will ofter vote with who they think will win. No conspiracy there... a conspiracy is secret. This manipulation was right out in the open.

Perhaps you SHOULD HAVE read the links before posting your asinine "explanation".

ALL ballots ARE on paper. More than half of the State counts by hand. The Counties that don't use OPTICAL SCAN PAPER BALLOTS.

ALL ballots can be recounted.

As for

...These false polls did influence the electorate for Obama, because it's well proven that people will ofter vote with who they think will win. No conspiracy there... a conspiracy is secret. This manipulation was right out in the open.

Wouldn't that mean HE WON?

40% were UNDECIDED. Wait for the breakdown to come out before you decide to cry foul. That's why the Pugs are all over the tube today claiming that polls were wrong. (Remember THAT little canard from the last 2 elections?)

The polls were RIGHT, the assclowns on the tube were WRONG. They were reading into things their own magic numbers. 40% "Don't Know" STILL means that 40% haven't made up their minds.

We'll know the internals soon enough.

In the meantime, READ THE LINKS before you go off on another of your rants. That's why the people who made the posts added them.

There are ZERO Diebold machines in that State, and ZERO touch screen machines. EVERY VOTE has a paper trail in the form of an ACTUAL BALLOT.
