Dean Statement on Lantos Retirement and Illness

Democratic National Committee Chairman Howard Dean today issued the following statement today on Congressman Tom Lantos's retirement and battle with cancer:

"California's 12th District and indeed all Americans are losing a great public servant with the retirement of Congressman Tom Lantos. As Chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee and through his many years of public service, Congressman Lantos has shown strength, leadership, and resolve. No stranger to daunting challenges, I know that he will bring the same spirit of courage and perseverance that has been a hallmark of his life to his battle with cancer. On behalf of the Democratic Party, our thoughts and prayers are with Congressman Lantos and his family during this difficult time."
