Iraq Benchmark Report Card
Posted by Michael Link on January 24, 2008 at 04:40 PM
An interesting report over at the Center of American Progress, which shows that "the Iraqi government has only met three of the 18 benchmarks laid out last year."
Government Benchmarks:
Perform constitutional review. - Unmet
Enact de-Ba'athification reform. - Partial
Form semi-autonomous regions. - Unmet
Hold provincial elections. - Unmet
Address amnesty. - Unmet
Establish support for Baghdad Security Plan. - Met
Ensure minority rights in Iraqi legislature. - Met
Keep Iraqi Security Forces free from partisan interference. - Unmet
Security Benchmarks:
Disarm militias. - Unmet
Provide military support in Baghdad. - Partial
Empower Iraqi Security Forces. - Partial
Ensure impartial law enforcement. - Unmet
Establish support for Baghdad Security Plan by Maliki government. - Unmet
Reduce sectarian violence. - Partial
Establish neighborhood security in Baghdad. - Met
Increase independent Iraqi Security Forces. - Unmet
Economic Benchmarks:
Implement oil legislation. - Unmet
Distribute Iraqi resources equitably. - Partial
But it must be an unfair report card... they didn't mention the new Chinese restaurant.
So make that 4 of 19 benchmarks.

good afternoon dems, i heard on the news today that the iraqi government? has began to make a deal with bush that will state our troops will be confined to their bases unless the iraqi's need them to help with security or combat. can anyone confirm this? the reporter said the iraqi government, no name mentioned, said our troops were no longer needed. THEN WHY ARE THEY STILL THERE IN HARM"S WAY? is it the oil? which by the way brings me to another thought. no one on the msnm has mentioned the reason our economy has failed is because OF THE WAR IN IRAQ and the ripping off of the people wanting to buy homes. america has be plundered by all thwe bush buddies and gotten away with it. WHY? where are the democrats? they haven't held anyone accountable or fought for any of us or our precious constitution that cheney and bush have gotten away with shredding to pieces without any qustions? i don't know about any of you, but i'm angry, i'm scared as to what the future is going to hold. even when king george and darth vader leave office, it's going to take years to get back what we had. and what if the next president of the united states decides to just keep ruling as king george? there will be no hope for anyone.
Despite the desire to end the Iraq war, there is a major need to contain the Iranian junta.
In the post - Saddam era, the Iranian junta wants to buy its entry to Iraq, and the loss will be shared by all of us.
Can someone connected with the DNC please tell if Florida's delegates count? If they do not count, then why is Hillary planning to go to Florida to accept her potential "WIN" there. I thought that all of the democratic candidates had agreed that both Michigan and Florida were off limits for campaigning. Under those circumstances, I believe that her claiming some kind of victory there is both ridiculous and unfair. If she gets the most votes, it will simply be because of the Clinton name recognition (the same factor that has her in the lead nationally). Had Obama and the other candidates been allowed to campaign there who knows what the voter outcome might have been.
