McCain: Make It 100! UPDATE: 1,000,000!
Posted by Michael Link on January 4, 2008 at 09:30 AM
John McCain tells New Hampshire he literally wants to stay in Iraq for the next hundred years, not just 50 years like president Bush:
And the transcript, via DailyKos:
Q: President Bush has talked about our staying in Iraq for 50 years --" (cut off by McCain)
McCain: "Make it a hundred."
Q: "Is that ..." (cut off)
McCain: "We've been in South Korea ... we've been in Japan for 60 years. We've been in South Korea 50 years or so. That would be fine with me. As long as Americans ..."
Q: [tries to say something]
McCain: "As long as Americans are not being injured or harmed or wounded or killed. That's fine with me, I hope that would be fine with you, if we maintain a presence in a very volatile part of the world where Al Qaeda is training and equipping and recruiting and motivating people every single day.
UPDATE: Make it a million years, McCain now says.

John McCain should do us an favor and drop out of the race. By saying stuff like that, he has proven that he shouldn't hold public office at all. A leader has to be smart, wise and have a vision for this country's future. All of the Republicans don't fit the description of an good leader which is why an Democrat would be best suited to run the country. Our candidates have told their vision and what they do when they are sworn in to end the Bush regime's war in Iraq and to clean up George Bush's mess in this country.
Does senile old McCain REALLY think that the USA can have troops in the center of the hot bed of the Middle East, where the fanatical sects live, and that they will NOT come under fire daily?
McCain should buy a rocking chair and put it next to his Mother's on a front porch somewhere, and leave Foreign Policy to the Democrats, who believe in negotiation and compromise first ! Who believe that countries have a right to their own government styles, and do not force a democracy onto those who do not want it.
I'm certain Huckabee would be happy to give
McCain a shovel to dig his own grave. Wait and see how he encourages McCain to do just that at the debate this weekend. Romney is too stupid to see the possibilities.
This doesn't even make sense.
We're in Japan because it is a staging area in case the North Koreans decide to invade South Korea. We are in South Korea, because the South Koreans don't quite trust NK's "dear leader. We are there not because of NK which the South Koreans could easily handle, we are there because China would likely step in on NK's side if they started loosing.
AND neither Japan nor South Korea trust China for good reasons.(Which makes them smarter than our current administration)which is why THEY WANT our presence in the area. Neither country wants to become another of China's victims.
The Bushiato and the Republican party's official line seems to be that we should stay in Iraq, whose people DON'T WANT US and has no huge aggressive nation (except for us) breathing down it's neck, for decades, dictating to their government, because the SOVEREIGN governments of Japan and South Korea want us to stay in those countries because they don't trust China which has shown a propensity for invading and taking over weaker countries and then claiming that they were originally part of China.
This argument is not even apples and oranges, it's more like apples and wing nuts.
Look at the woman in the lower left corner snap her head up when Gramps says "100 years."
Can we get any video clips where I don't have to look at that pathetic, sniveling snotrag Lieberman...particularly from behind? Two asses in the frame are plenty.
I wonder...if the Dems pick up another seat in the Senate next year, will their leaders have the guts to tell Lieberman to go caucus with his Republican brethren and play in traffic between caucuses?
Never mind...I can answer that one myself.
Butte your statemet is partly correct in that our presence in Korea and Japan help stabilize the region and make democarcy safe for not only those countries but the entire surrounding region. Don't forget it was part of our treaty with the japanese that we defend their nation in order to keep limit their military growth. This was a mistake we learned after WWI where we allowed the Germans to re-arm themsleves. Maybe if we had stayed in the the region after WWI instead of hiding our heads in the sand again WWII would have happened. This is exactly the point Senator McCain was trying to make about our presence in Iraq and other parts of the ME. Dems we have to learn from history!
I find it very disturbing that Democrats claim that all this region needs is diplomacy. Yes, diplomacy is important but not always an option. Just ask our Greatest generation of Americans who faught in the past world wars. We tried for diplomacy for over 10 years in Iraq. Do you Dems just like to ignour that? In fact it was your Democratic guru clinton we precided over this "diplomcay" and left a mess for the current administartion to deal with. We tried to hide behind diplomcay and look what 9/11 brought us! It simply does not work with zealots bent on destroying everything we stand for. It's all or nothing for them. After 9/11 our president promised the American people he would do everything in his power to make sure this doesn't happen again. Even the Dems stood behind him as he took aggresive stances to protect our country. Was he perfect? Certainly not but he didn't have a crystal ball to look through but even with the mistakes he did make we have managed to keep the terrorists from attacking our country. If you remembered the experts after 9/11 it wasn't a matter of if but when would be attacked again. Now that we have prevented it's scary the Dems want to roll back the clock to pre-9/11 mentality and hide our heads in the sand.
I have been very disulusioned with the Democratic party and have voted Democratic my entire life and yet I can't continue to support a party that is willing to jepordize American lives and stability in order to further their own politcal goals.
Stan:
Then who are you going to vote for? Our choices are limited at this point.
There is no viable third party.
The best solution is to find and support those candidates who are most likely to stand up and be counted, and work for the candidates who are closest to your philosophies. That includes candidates for ALL elected positions.
One of the problems is the focus on the presidential candidates, and not remembering that the Congress is as important as the president. The president can't do a thing unless he gets the legislative branch on his side.
We don't just need a populist president, we need to lose some of the K-street "centrists" and Blue Dog Republicans in order to have a bullet proof legislature for that president.
Remember, if your aren't part of the solution, you are part of the problem.
Does this senile dope think we can spend 12 billion a month for the next 100 years? That's it for McCain; he's toast.
Butte,
First of all we have to get away from the campaign slogans and cut through to the issues. We all want change but we can be assured that any nominee, rep or dem, that is actually elected will find actually changing things to the large scall they are promising is unrealistic. It's nothing more than normal campagning that you would think Americans can see through by now. I remember getting duped by Clinton into voting for him on the promise that he will fix the health care system and he never did. Now Mrs. Clinton is making those same promises...again! Those kinds of issues make you sound good but rarely canidates are able to deliver.
We need a canidate that is willing to stay the course in the ME and not back down. I remember thinking after my father served in vietnam thinking how can America ever do that again to our soldiers. Comnitt to a war and then cut bait and run when it gets unpopular and we loose the stomach to continue to fight. My grandfather's generation recognized who the enemy is and banded together and stayed the course. America arose and become the strongest most sought after country the world has ever seen after we won that fight. Today Dems have aligned themseves on defeat in the war and have begun to blame our President as the monnster and made the terrorist to be the victims. Now anything from the fire's in CA to Katrina disaster on the President and many claim he is worse than our enemy! Don't get me wrong, I think our President has made some huge mistakes but he is not the enemy and is certainly not a monster. At least he is willing to do what he thinks is right and not allow his policy be based purely on public opion and waver like it does. He campagned he would win the war in 04 and is trying to make do on that promise.
As for who I will vote for will be the canditate that is willing to win the war in the ME first and by doing so protect our country. Secondly and almost as important a canidate who is willing to cut spending and go after pork barrel spending. I was impressed about Huckabees plan in Arkansas to fix the roads their by raising a penny tax on sales. He went to the people of Arkansas and they voted to approve it. Arkansas roads were improved and pork on pet projects was spent.
So who will I vote for...None of the Dems that is for sure. I wish Obama would change his stance on the war. All the current canidates want to claim defete in Iraq and run. Give me a Dem who is willing to not accept defeat and I will be the first to put his/her bumper sticker on my car. As for my other choices they are limited but I like Huckabee's stance on the war. I also like the idea that he seems to represents the comman American. He doesn't come from old money like Bush or politcal machines like Clinton or the elite like Romney. He actually feels like the old Democrats who have come before us before they got cought up in ultra-right wing groups that represented the just a small part of the country. He feels like the canidate for the "little guy".
War, war, There is no war. The occupation is entering it's sixth year. The natives want us to leave and aren't even shooting at each other any longer. We are just protecting the Bush crime family's business interests.
Stan, if you want to fight, get into grass roots politics and make your frustration work for you.
What are you talking about Sandy? The "natives" don't want us to leave! Quit listening to the Bush haters who only spread only the bad things coming out of Iraq. When you refuse to recognize good and close your ears to the good you spout nothing but lies and half truths. I have friends fighting over there who have resonded as saying the majority of the people were glad we were there. We are needed even longer to help stabalize the region. Leave now and it's worse than before. You really show your inability to objectivly understand the situation when you allow your personal feelings about Bush get in the way. I can see that as you describe him as some sort of Crime Boss. Sure Bush isn't perfect. I hate what he has done for education in TX and even worse for our nation but I know that his agenda in Iraq is not to make himself or his friends rich. Thats obsurd thinking.
What do you mean by "getting into grass roots politics"? I'm simply trying to pick a canidate that I feel will lead our country into the next century and have to wade through all the negative propaganda the Dems currently have mounted in an effort to win back the white house. I am called to a differnt line of work educating our children and I am proud to say that I have impacted directly thousands of kids for the better.
It bugged us in 2000 when Bush slicked in and won the election and has festered for the last 8 years into vicious and petty hatred that has allowed this party to loose sight of it's core values of making the government for the people.
