Posted by Matt Ortega on January 17, 2008 at 12:06 PMIt may be snowing here in Washington, D.C., but the sun is apparently shinning on Congressman Ron Paul, who edged out Senator John McCain in the 2008 Democratic Party Republican Straw Poll. Meanwhile, former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani ended up in a familiar place: sixth.

OMG! my greatest fear, McCain comming in second. What is it going to take to get Democrats to understand that McCain has always been a sheep in wolves clothing when it comes to "supporting" Dem issues.
Doesn't anyone remember he was one of the Keeting 5? President of the NCP and supporter of PNAC a radical Neo-Con agenda? Supporter of the Bush Surge in Iraq?

My greatest fear, uninformed democrats and independents will remember all the talking heads years back pushing McCain as a moderate and party bridge builder.

It is important to note that PNAC backed McCain in 2000 over Bush.

Most of us hard lefties on the West Coast see Mccain for the neocon he has become. I might have voted for him in 2004, but since then he has swung decidely to the right.

If Ron Paul is in the lead, either the Libertarians have been voting more than once or the Republicans are getting really, really desperate.
Either way it's kind of scary.
Libertarians are out to destroy the government even more that Republicans. Think Republican Anarchists.

LOL. Ron Paul is in the lead because he's been garnering votes from the Democrats! Wake up DNC! You marginalize our true independent and liberal candidates who voted against the war, who vote to stop funding the war, and who vote against resolutions against Iran. Dennis Kucinich has been excluded from debates several times, and the DNC has said nothing. People sympathetic to a strategy of "Strength through Peace" are getting sick of listening to candidates like Clinton, et all, who voted for the Iraq War, who vote for the Patriot Act, who vote for resolutions condemning Iran, and consequently, these people not knowing about Kucinich join the Ron Paul revolution. I know a few Democrats who joined that revolution, and I know that its spreading in Rhode Island because I see copious signs all over the place.
Wake up DNC. Start endorsing your own, and speak against efforts to marginalize them. And btw, Kucinich wins our straw polls!

Let me clarify that, Ron Paul even leads a lot of the Republican Straw polling, and things that are on the ABC/Facebook polling. I didn't realize this whole thread was a "Democrat-Republican Strawpoll." thats retarded. why don't we have a "Democrat-Democrat Strawpoll" on this site, and see who wins!
O thats right. The DNC is scared because they know who will win, who always wins the strawpolls, and its not the people the party bosses like. It's Dennis Kucinich, man of the people!
Sorry DNC, I thought you were fair.

It is realy hard for me to get enthused.
As a life time regestered democrate, how has never missed a vote, ever.
I live in Michigan and just voted in my states primary, that the National DNC has said my states 157 deligates will not be allowed to participate in at the Democratic National Convention because Michigan law makers moved Michigan's primary up to Jan.15th.
I am only a voter that had nothing to do with the move to an earlier date.
I should not be punished for something I had no control over!
My state tax payers just paid 10 million $ to pay for my states primary.
And I might add that all most 1 million voters went to the polls in a snow storm to vote.
Michigan has twice as many voters as Iowa and NH.rolled into one.
I was at the 1968 convention in Chicago,I saw what happend when people were not treated right.
I will be at the Denver convention protesting,
if my states deligates are not seated.
We are putting groups together to protest in mass.
As you know we lost to the Republicans in 1968 over the way the protesters were treated in Mayor Daily's Chicago and the Democratic party at that DNC convention.
My party is bigger than this.Let's fix this at once, seat my states deligates!

Ignorance will get you all no where. The value of our dollar is going down the drain and we are losing lives because of a foreign policy that is sucking us dry ecomonically. Just look at gas prices for example. How much more is it going to take for my fellow democrats to wake up and realize that Ron Paul is Hope for America. Being stubborn and voting for a democrat with either experience who voted for the war or a candidate who has little experience will get this country no where.
Brief Overview of Congressman Paul's Record:
He has never voted to raise taxes.
He has never voted for an unbalanced budget.
He has never voted for a federal restriction on gun ownership.
He has never voted to raise congressional pay.
He has never taken a government-paid junket.
He has never voted to increase the power of the executive branch.
He voted against the Patriot Act.
He voted against regulating the Internet.
He voted against the Iraq war.
He does not participate in the lucrative congressional pension program.
He returns a portion of his annual congressional office budget to the U.S. treasury every year.
I rest my case.
Veteran for RON PAUL!!
Peace,Robert

Ron Paul also does not believe the statements in the Preamble of the Constitution about "insuring domestic tranquility" or "promoting general welfare".
He believes in even more of the lassiez faire attitude towards Big Business that has gotten us into the economic hole that we're currently in, with the working people scraping along barely making ends meet and the rich and greedy getting fatter and fatter at the trough of unregulated and corrupt business practices.
The man is even worse than Bush in those areas.
He believes that the government should sit by and let the pigs run, and our infrastructure become totally privatized, so only the rich can use it.
That is neither insuring domestic tranquility nor promoting general welfare of all US citizens.
The man is a menace!

I would like to see a straw poll Democrats V GOP? Who is ahead of the GOP and who is ahead of the Democrats?

I won't support any revolution that espouses racism.
Look up the truth about Ron Paul. He is a racist and anti-semite. Don't jump on the bandwagon because he's so anti-war or anti-tax. Taxes are the price you pay to live in civilized society.
Don't act like you can cut taxes without cutting programs.
Which programs do YOU want cut?

I'm a democrat myself but don't give me this he is a racist crap. There is no way Ron Paul is a racist. Democrat Robert Byrd used the word white niggers on national tv several times yet the ppl of west virginia still reelected him. Biden made a few moderate racist comments as well directed to Obama. Democrats have their fair share of racism slip ups as well. As long as politicians learned their mistakes and move on, the issue can be considered settled.

Who would have thought Ron Paul would win. I thought for sure Huckabee would best represent these right wing fanatics. But it doesn't matter which one of these nutcases is the Republican nominee for 2008, they are all bad for us and this country. Lets win the election this year and keep the Republicans out of office. I am supporting Hillary because due to the mess this country is in. We need someone with tons of experience to undo what the Bush Dictatorship has done to our country and to the world. We cannot these right wing psychopaths win or more of the same stuff that is going right now will continue.

Now Is the Time to Do the Right Thing
Dear Friend:
I am not in tonight's Presidential debate in South Carolina because, over the weekend, the Federal Communications Commission supported the arbitrary and deliberately exclusionary criteria imposed by CNN and its parent company, Time Warner, Inc., to keep me out. And, because that FCC decision came so late, there was absolutely no time to appeal or to challenge their denial of Americans' right to hear from the one and only candidate who is willing to demand ...
Immediate withdrawal of all troops from Iraq. No war with Iran. A national, not-for profit health care system. Repeal of the Patriot Act and a restoration of civil liberties. The cancellation of NAFTA and the rebuilding of the U.S. auto, steel, aerospace, shipping, and manufacturing industries. Carbon-free and nuclear-free energy policies.
But, it's not too late to fight for what we believe, and that's why I am asking for your help. (Click here to donate).
The Democratic Party has out-sourced your right to a full and fair debate to private, multi-billion dollar media conglomerates whose interests do not represent mainstream America. Their interests are best served by manipulating the political process to achieve their own ends, promote their favored candidates, and profit from the rewards of their power and control.
To challenge those powers and defend your rights, we are running up extraordinary legal expenses. We need your help to sustain those efforts so that everyday Americans can believe in their rights and have faith in their strength to stand up against the political and corporate powers that are ignoring us at the same time they are trying to dominate us.
With your help, we can change this system. We can demand reforms, fight for justice, and re-write the unfair laws and the discriminatory regulations to make this a government of the people, by the people, and for the people.
Please contribute whatever you can, and ask your friends to do the same, because the cost of doing nothing is far greater than the price of doing the right thing. Before it's too late, now is the time to do the right thing.
Thank you
Dennis Kucinich
