Pause?

On Monday, during the State of the Union, Bush declared: "In the coming months, four additional brigades and two Marine battalions will follow suit." That action would just about bring troop levels to where they were before the escalation.
But what about after that?
According to the Washington Post, the White House will propose a "freeze" on troop levels that would start in July for an unspecified amount of time. Some are floating the idea it could be a few months, which could then mean to the end of Bush's term in office.
Here's what Speaker Pelosi's blog, the Gavel, has to say:
The President’s Iraq policy will result in the same number of troops committed to an endless war in Iraq at the end of this year as were there at the end of 2006. And the President continues to ignore the calls of the American people to wind down the war with the responsible redeployment of our troops.
Meanwhile, as a report by former NATO commander General James Jones makes clear, NATO ‘is not winning’ the real war against terrorism in Afghanistan.’ And an Army study reportedly reveals that suicides among Army personnel are at record levels.
And John McCain wants another 100 years in Iraq...

What a hideous speech given by a truly revolting President.
I am truly amazed that none in the MSM have commented on the President saying in the SOTU that he would rotate out all of the extra 30,000 troops he put in Iraq last spring....not an eye blink.
Now we hear that the troop levels will remain the same levels till the end of the Bush tenure. This suggests that "the surge" was just a cover for the fact that Petraeus paid off the Sunnis...and probably the Shiites. Why else is al Sadr playing such a low key role if he's not being paid off, too?
Where else is that $70 billion additional dollars being asked for every three months going?
Why aren't the American people being told about the protection money we are paying to insurgents in Iraq?
Each and every male Sunni over the age of maturity in predominently Sunni provinces is being paid $300 a month plus not to shoot at our troops. This is giving in to extortion not conducting a war.
If we are going to pay protection money, we can do that with our troops out of Iraq.
Why doesn't Bush just take the money we are paying Blackwater and Halliburton in Iraq and pay the Iraqis to be our mercenaries and attack Iran?
That would get us out of Iraq and make the neocons' wildest wet dream come true....without our troops and military having to take any of the risks.
Although I think Bush Sr. and Rumsfeld tried that back in the 1980's......?
I wouldn't be surprised at all if it's not going to be Back to the Future all over again. Bush wants to go out with a bang.
Wow, I honestly can't believe the people in this country re-elected this right wing moron. This type of thing is the reason we have the power of impeachment for. Come on Democratic Congress, use the power of impeachment and remove both Bush and Cheney from office into an federal prison. It's time to end Bush's personal vendetta against the people who tried to kill his daddy.
We have to stop being mother in law of other countries affairs. America spends more money and time for other countires affaris than any other country on planet.
Also if see the history of America, Repubicans presidents spent more moeny and peoples time and life in to wars than democrats.
Do you know black water security guard makes average 400,000 dollars (actually we pays that much) than our army generals or any soliders. We work on so many Army bases, they are falling apart. We need to put more money on Bases and build our country from inside. If bush and their party wants to do the war let them put thier 100 % of paychecks, i dont mind if they 1000 years in Iraq or anywhere.
I for one don't beleive that GWB has a plan, never had, never will. His only actions now is to get out of Washington D.C. before he and his adminstration gets IMPEACHED.
Nancy Pelosi has the power and the knowledge to do just that. She knows very well that the American People would be overwhelming behind her action in an impeachment proceding. For some unkown reason, she won't act on behalf of this country and it's people's will.
In the meantime, GWB will continue his path of disregard and continued destruction of this country's position in the world community.
We have spent more time in Iraq and Afganistan than it took to defeat Germany, and Japan. If the Republicans are truly committed to winning the war they need to bring back the draft, and drasticly raise taxes to pay for it. Americans have shown a great ability to sacrifice when the country is in danger. However lets be honest the Hypocrite Party isn't interested in anything but making all of the Big Oil Companies filthy rich, and have the working class pay for the war. If the people cannot make it on their own we shouldn't feel guilty about pulling out. We gave them the opportunity to have democracy now its up to them.
AS BUSH SAID TO THE MILITARY WHEN HE WAS CAMPAINING, HOLD ON MILITARY HELP IS ON ITS WAY.
The difference is the Democrats mean it. We don't use our military until all else has failed.
