Roe v. Wade Anniversary
Posted by Michael Link on January 22, 2008 at 05:31 PM
On this day in 1973, the Supreme Court ruled in Roe v. Wade that women have a constitutional right to privacy. Here's Governor Dean's statement:
As we mark the 35th anniversary of Roe v. Wade today, Democrats stand solidly in support of women and their right to make important life decisions about their health care.
It's critical that abortion remain a personal decision. If Roe was overturned, women and their doctors would be treated like criminals, jeopardizing women's health and safety. We can all agree that reducing the number of abortions in our country is an important goal, and in fact abortions have decreased. We will continue to work towards common-ground solutions to reduce the number of unintended pregnancies, while allowing women to make the best decisions for themselves and their families.

According to the American Taliban, women have no rights.

I was wondering whether anyone has ever introduced a bill that puts term limits on members of the Supreme Court? The ancient Greeks did for all posts, a term of just two years! Having a life term is like being an aristocrat, damned by your own blue blood - (there is no choice there, ha)! This should be looked into for many reasons and beyond partisan motives of any kind. Mostly that a power elite does not hold power for long enough to eclipse the democracy and become a dictatorship or aristocracy. You know how it went in aristocracies, heir apparents were always getting kidnapped or killed, etc.. It is a horrid history if you read up on it, really. I think today's citizens are so removed from what brought the settlers here in the first place that we have social amnesia.
We didn't even learn from Nam it seems, how sad. Another Human Mother for Peace is being created every day in 2008 and some are being killed over there along side their children. What kind of world is this to bring an angel to? Best that they stay in Heaven. We could just pull a Lysistrata, all go off in protest and tie our tubes before the original sin can take place. Meanwhile we can begin to make the world more safe for those already here. My point being, is we have so much overpopulation and so little resources that we cannot even take care of the ones already here while our rain forests dwindle, our oceans rise and our land burn.
Pope take notice, the Chinese plan is right; one kid per couple. You don't think so? Can you tell me how many times bigger their population is than that of the United States, and we owe them how much??? Oooookay....go look it up and you will get a picture worth a billion heads....Dubya? What do you intend to do about this? Rapture what? We'll all be dead anyway? Houston, I think we have a problem.
If you want to stay alive much longer on Planet Earth...pahleeaase vote Dem.!

I think roe vs wade was one of the best things to happen for women in this country. I mean whose damn buisness is it to tell me as a women what it is I should do when it comes down to my body.

Adoption statistics show "demand for healthy, young infants exceeds number of children available for adoption, a trend that continues to grow with each passing decade."

Margaret Atwood's Handmaiden's Tale describes the pressure of childless families after a nuclear war to have children by surrogates; young women surrogates kidnapped by childless families.
A book: Child Abuse Industry: mirrors a similar current system. Children removed from homes because of allegations of neglect or abuse are more speedily adopted with parental rights often rapidly shelved by state social workers and the judiciary. Childless adults desperate for a child do volunteer in the court system and the foster system in order to get a child, often without the certified adoption agency process. Money is paid "under the table" to a judge's campaign fund, to caseworkers, so that a child in foster care is whisked into an adoptive home. Children with significant disabilities whose parents are not provided with the family support services to care for their own child in their own home are declared "dependent" on the state. Families in poverty continue to be declared negligent when in fact the economic system is negligent. A rising tide raises all ships. Our next President needs to serve all of the people in this nation, including those who want the right to medical decisions between a person and the person's physician without government intrusion. Choice with abortions safe and rare is a great standard.

So if you are irresponsible, why are you having unprotected sex? I think 1 abortion per woman is okay... If you continue to get pregnant and have more abortions, there is something wrong there. (I'd even give you benefit of the doubt on twins)
