Thompson may drop out if he (surprise) performs poorly in Iowa today, says the Politico citing officials close to his campaign.
But Fred Thompson is rested for caucus day today. While all those other candidates were out there meeting Iowans, campaigning, and pushing people to caucus, Thompson was napping, according to ABC News:
Thompson's campaign scheduled only one event for New Year's Day, a meet-and-greet at the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown, about an hour outside Des Moines.

"We could either — it was a close call, to go jogging in almost zero-degree weather, or stay in and take a nap. After considerable consideration, I decided to take a nap."
Says the man who's been putting Iowans to sleep on the trail for months...

Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz! (oh cough, um, ahem, swallow, ok I'm awake now)
Who is that again? Thompson who?
Oh yea right. The D list (out of work) actor that has the canine face? The one with the super young and fake everything wife? The one that doesn't really CARE if he wins or not. The one that Cheney's dingleberry daughter is supporting?
Figures.
GOOD RIDDANCE TO BAD RUBBISH! (I say)
Sam Waterston did fine without Thompson last night on "Law and Order" and so will the country.
But don't count him out. Once he comes out of hibenation after the primaries, watch and see if the eventual winner doesn't ask him to be their vice presidential running mate...they're all that desperate.

dawn,
At first I thought you were talking about Giuliani.
He's stated that he doesn't care about winning till the Florida contest. I'm not sure how much of the wife's (also known by those at the NYPD as "the mistress") equipment is fake...and I don't care.
Many Republicans have been and are still acting like they are a Democrats and suggest someone other than Hillary to vote for because they know they can't beat Hillary because of her and Bill's popularity and experience. So don't fall into the trap this year like at othertimes. The Democrats as elected officials are more popular than Republicans. We expect a big increase of Democrats in the House and Senate. May God Bless Us All, with wisdom to select the right candidate.
Oh Freddy Cheeseball that would be just so disappointing ... tee, hee, hee ...
If anybody remembers the old Miller Lite ads, Fred Thompson has always reminded me of Marv Throneberry, he of the "I still don't know why they asked me to do this commercial," and "If I do for Lite Beer what I did for baseball, I expect them to go out of business." One could almost imagine Fred saying, "I still don't know why they asked me to run for President," and "If I do for the United States what I did for Tennessee, I expect the Constitution to be dismantled."
