How does that fit in with the knowledge of
1. PNAC?
2. Saddam hussein and Osama bin laden hated each other and we knew that Iran would love Saddam taken out, and the area destablized. oooo sp?
both points being widely known withing the political theater
highserenity,
And Rumsfeld was sent over to Hussein, in 1988, with money and weapons, and spores to make anthrax and poison gases, all in order to fight with iran and to kill off their own kurds, etc.
NOW they act so aghast that Hussein killed so many people! Freaken jerks think we are all as stupid as the sheeple who believe their propoganda.

Very good analysis, Marine. John McCain was staggering around Houston today, making outlandish statements about the success of the surge. If al-Sadr had not extended his cease fire for another 5 months, the illusion of success would vanish in a Texas nano second. You know me, listening to McCain almost caused my fist to go through the TV. Fortunately, I was able to restrain myself. As I have posted before, I would like to frog march Bush, Cheney and McCain down "ambush alley" in Baghdad and watch them wet their pants. They all like this war so much, they should show us just how much they support it!....

Wasn't it cheney that preached about how moving into Iraq during bush1 would destablize the whole area?
and
Powell who said 2001 "you break it you own it"?
add in PNAC in 1998 and it doesn't fit that nobody understood the ramifications and it was just bad planning etc.
I think the planning was loooong in the making and turned out perfect.
I would support an Obama VP nomination of either Senator Ken Salazar, or Congressman John Salazar. We need some rural westerners in the mix, to address and bring together these faces of America.
In this line of work there are those with what appears to be natural talent. They don't necessarily prove themselves before they earn the opportunity to show us what they can do, instead it is their mind that impresses others so much that they are granted the opportunity.
Barack Obama appears to fall into this category. Although he has not functioned as a military strategist, he appears to understand strategy and how it impacts the battlefield in the Middle East better than other presidential contenders.
His position on the initial invasion is just one area where this was most well demonstrated, but it is not the only one. On numerous occasions I have witnessed an understanding of the conflict on the part of Barack Obama that far exceeds what most other politicians are capable of. Perhaps this has something to do with others being set in their ways and not as willing to take a chance on their constituency, but either way it is a difference I find intriguing after so many years of watching this conflict expand without sign of slowing down.
This is the sort of understand that is going to be required if we are ever to end this war, either through military victory or consession, both of which have historically been used to bring an end to conflict.
I think the planning was loooong in the making and turned out perfect.

it was the culmination of Cheney's, Rumsfelds, Wolfowitz's wet dreams!! 9/11 was a God sent to them! Their prayers were answered ! Clinton told them NO, and now they had The 'not too smart' Bush to give them the Green light!

I'm doing pretty good, wrote a new book about a young Marine in Korea in 1950....My medical situation is worse but I don't give a flying cow chip. Did you ever get your disability straightened out with the VA?....John Boy.....
And, might I be so bold as to suggest that consessions might be required if we are to regain focus. We can not, for instance, maintain our current level of operations where enemies are created in places like Iraq at the same time as we are engaged nearby. As I said before, this sort of reckless engagement of all things potentially anti-American only encourage the growth of anti-Americanism in those who are effected by association or collateral damage. And, this in turn leads to increased interest in the extremeist cause and inevitably to improved capabilities within those organizations. Of course, it can also lead to the introduction of entirely new confrontational organizations which only hamper our efforts further.
I think what is funny about the the National Security debate, is that every time they say the war vote is the past, yet their whole 'experience' argument is totally living in the past.
I don't want to insult McCain's war experience, but he said at one point in his life that he didn't want to make a career out of being a POW. I think one could argue he has, as sad and cynical as that is to state out load.
I wondered when they'd get to McCain's pandering to anti-Catholic ministries. He'll alineand pander himself with anyone to get votes.
Hillary, do we really need another united in fear campaign?
Still fighting that fight John Boy. Happy to hear about the book. Sorry to hear about your medical situation, but it is encouraging to see that you are still fighting too.

I Pam, I'm having a lot of trouble with posting tonight, so if I disappear, it isn't you, it's me.
"Jody, Not Just Another War Story" is available from either www.Amazon.com or www.b&n.com...I can't remember if you have read the first chapter. If you haven't, you can go to www.iuniverse.com...book search, type in the title. Then click on the title name and scroll down to "browse" and you can read the first chapter (Free, of course) It's a good story but does have a lot of violence and profane language in it. Thanks for your interest.
How's your friend's son doing?

Can't ever give up. And there are a lot of people far worse off than I am. My heart goes out to the kids that are coming back from Iraq and Afghanistan wounded. They have it rough, I don't.
Scare tatics are used by losers... you know Neocons, crazies,
the Clin.......whoops sorry that one almost slipped out.
Oh yes, and they only thing that is "International" in Arkansas is the "International House of Pancakes" so are we suppose to believe that Bill Clinton wasn't ready to be the leader of free world? In 1992 people had a choice of George HW Bush and Bill Clintion. The people picked the one with the best judgement, not the longest resume. For the Iraq War=Bad Judgement, Against the Iraq War=Good Judgement.
Many of us are fighting to ensure that these young men and women do not slip through the cracks. I myself do what I can to inform our congressional leaders of the procedures that these men and women will go through as they attempt to receive the assistance they need to either continue their career in the military or to treat the injuries that they have sustained in the military so that they might move on. I do this because I know how difficult the adaptation can be, and how it can be made far more difficult by uninformed congressional staffers who mean well but don't understand enough about the system to know that they must fight for answers quite often before results are produced.
Serenity,
I understand your arguement regarding PNAC. That being said, I prefer to keep my own discussion of the topic on the strategic blunders that were made in taking us into Iraq.
Just heard the TV over my shoulder while posting. PBS
Just said that Obama is ahead by 6 points in Texas.....John Boy.......
Evening JohnBoy,
I am going to buy your book tonight. I read the chapter you posted and it looks like it will be a good book.
You have a very good point there JASt. According to the Clinton camps arguement on experience, Bill Clinton should never have become our president in 1992. In which case, Hillary would not be where she is today.
What a great way for the Bush Administration to help spur the US economy.

I always felt that you are a man of impeccable good judgment and high intelligence. Thanks John, that means a lot to me.....John Boy......
I was thinking about the argument that suggests Hillary and Obama are very close in voter support. Those that suggest this of course focus on pledged delegate counts and on superdelegates. They do not consider the wide lead that Obama has in terms of popular support.
I believe that this must be a factor in deciding who we should go with in the upcoming elections. Primarily because our delegate system does not accurately portray what is going on in terms of voter motivation. Instead, a vastly more motivated electorate can be entirely missed by those looking to delegate counts for answers.

That gives me a first class case of the R/A,.....
9000 American jobs down the drain, out sourced to Europe. It seems to me that American tax dollars ought to be kept at home here to create American jobs. Screw Air Bus! This decision needs to be stopped by Congress.....John Boy......
I agree, given the state of our economy at present it would be unwise to send an additional 9000 jobs overseas when it is easily possible to keep them here.
Posted by Marine on February 29, 2008 at 08:02 PM
I think that system needs fixing for sure I support Clinton, but will not be happy if the super delegates over ride the peoples vote. I would rather she step down than over run the will of the people. I live in florida and would like to know what if the margine is less than the disputed delegates of michigan and florida. Then what? I cannot ignore my own state and would support Clinton if the disputed delegates would put Her in the lead. On the other hand if the DNC seats the delegates and Clinton wins I can't help but feel the system has failed us. Either way it could turn nasty real quick.
President Asshole is stupid. What a waste of skin.
Russia's Izvestia Reports:
"The United States vetoed a Arab initiative to solve the Lebanese political crisis, which provides for the establishment of a government of national unity with the right of the opposition to influence his decisions after the election of the country's president" - he said.
(BUSH IS SUCH AN ARROGANT ASSHOLE AND IS TOO STUPID TO SEE THAT HE IS REPEATING RAYGUN'S LOSS OF 250 MARINES IN LEBANON.)
"Syria can only take any political measures" - he said.
However, the Director of the Academy noted that the Americans should not forget what ended their military intervention in the affairs of Lebanon in 1983, when as a result of the explosion of American barracks in Beirut killed more than 250 United States Marines.
United States plans to deploy destroyer off the coast of Lebanon - a provocation
I think the news has surprised a lot of people. The Governor has hinted about filing for a formal inquiry on the decision.
That was 9,000 NEW jobs down the tubes.
Above politics my @ss! He's just another one of Bush's flunkies...
I just got back from an awesome vacation in Manzanita, Oregon. It was incredible! Yesterday we went to Ecola State Park and saw a huge herd of elk, more than a dozen even a couple of bulls and then we went to the cove where my husband used to surf in college and saw a bald eagle. We spent an hour just watching the bird. When we left, the fog was rolling in, but from the highway, you could see out over the top of it - a shimmering sea of fluffy white shiniong in the sunshine. It was just beautiful. There was even enough break in the mist to watch thew waves break along the bottom of the cliff.

Yeah, Amen to that! Those are 9000 core jobs in manufacturing! I was taught in sociology, back in the Dark Ages, before New Math, that 1 core job in manufacturing generates 5 jobs in service jobs. Hmmm, my slide rule says that would be 45,000 service jobs. (Actually I cheated and used a 1989 model TI-36);-D

Why has the chimpenfuhrer suddenly abandoned no-bid contracts. This would have been a perfect chance to award the contract to Boeing.
Boeing saved our asses in WWII. They developed the B-17 bomber which was the workhorse of the bombing missions in Europe in WWII. It was a stunning achievement in engineering know-how and was virtually indestructible. I believe the Army Air Force lost about 20,000 of them over Europe in WWII. Crew deaths were about 200,000.
They certainly supported our troops and we owe them big-time.
McDonnel-Douglas probably bribed the air force and should be investigated.
Let's put mukassy on it.

Sorry I didn't get back to you on this sooner. Clinton could possibly still win the popular vote in Texas and Obama come out with more delegates because of the caucus vote. The caucus vote gives more delegates to the urban area where Obama is stronger. The Clinton camp is thinking of suing to block the count of the delegates awarded by the caucus' If the Clinton camp does file such a law suit, it will have a disastrous affect on the election and cause ill will toward the Clintons that will last for as long as Hillary remains in the political arena. Needless to say, such a law suit would seriously affect her political future.

Get out that slide rule again! 45,000 service jobs plus the original 9000 new manufacturing jobs equals 54000 new jobs. At an ball park figure of $50,000 each, how much money is that? Economics 101 back in the Dark Ages taught us that each dollar spent multiplied it self at least 5 times. How much money would that contribute to our national economy?
While watching the rerun of MSNBC’s Democratic Presidential Debate, I have a couple of things I would like to share with others in this post-9/11 America.
American’s need to take note and be proud of a Democracy that gives the people, not just money or people in current control, the ultimate power to change the country’s present course. (Unlike in some other countries, the beauty of American Democracy is that it gives American’s the power to only have to put up with what we do not like for only so long.)
Second, after witnessing the American Public Majority being belittled by this administration, I can not think of a better time for our two leading candidates who have championed the Democratic Party’s leadership on Civil and Equal rights to lead the country back on course.
Thank you Democratic National Committee
goodfoe: Ummm let's see
54K x $50K = $ 2,700,000,000 x 5 = 13,500,000,000
That would be average wages.

For those of you discussing the popular vote and who is ahead and by how much.
All of the states that have voted have not turned in their numbers on popular vote. If you count all the votes turned in, including Michigan and Florida, in the popular vote, only 302,500 votes seperate our two candidates.
You can go look at:

Hi all:
Wanted to pass on information about a new progressive blog:
Check it out - http://www.eenrblog.com/
Yea, premature. We've only got 8 months, counting the Olympic fest, what was I thinking? Seems like too long.
Not breaking news but a little insight into the booming exports the US has. I work in the industry and right now, it's next to impossible to get space for a container on a vessel to nearly anywhere in the world. For one, it's most certainly the weak dollar but more importantly, it's our plants and factories shutting down. I work in ocean exports and next month, I'm "packing up" one printing factory in six containers, and also a textile plant in fifty six containers (these are all 40' ocean containers). They are all going to Brazil. This time they are both out of Alabama, last year I had similar "projects" out of South Carolina and Virginia.
Believe me, I just provide the ocean transportation, but right now, I honestly hate my job. I get to talk to the people that have worked at those factories their whole life, only to have it packed up into a container.. my heart bleeds for them.
Disclaimer: I have no prejudice against Brazil or any other country, they do what is best for them. When is the US Government going to do what is best for us?

This just in from very red(?)Indiana:
What's the latest out of the 7th District today, with financial reports flowing forth from the two campaigns. Maureen Groppe gives us the rundown:Democrat Andre Carson has a large financial advantage over Republican Jon Elrod in the March 11 special election to fill the remaining term of the late Julia Carson, Andre's grandmother.
Carson raised $376,274 through Feb. 20, more than five times the $71,130 raised by Elrod, according to their campaign disclosure reports. It must be tough to be Jon Elrod. Your party doesn't think you stand a chance, the conservative base hates your positions on social issues, and the moderates aren't exactly wild about your plans to privatize Social Security. Oh, and then there's your unwillingness to rock the boat (or even address) some of the huge issues facing this district and this nation. Just because you try and ignore the Iraq War and the healthcare crisis doesn't mean those problems are going anywhere.
It appears that Indiana and the color red might be in trouble. Nothing like going blue......
Yamaka - It's because it makes people think he is Muslim. Many people fear all Muslims. I have read a lot of terrible racist (I mean seriously racist, like yard monkey & tar baby) posts about Barack and the Muslim inuendo I've seen is just as bad.
I think you know that. It's really disheartening honestly.
Posted by Kathy_from_Indiana on February 29, 2008 at 10:54 PM
YEAH!!!!
Why do I get a feeling you are playing a major part in painting your state blue? ;)
We actually have a candidate for US Senate here in Georgia that has a shot against Chambliss. More to follow on that soon.
This is where fear mongering leads: dumb and bankrupt. Now we're mortgaging our future cause we fell for the terrist fear scam. It's what gets them elected somehow: fear of some bogeyman, and security, at whatever cost.
Maybe get teachers new jobs in the prisons? Degrees in criminology for the captive audience?

New Study Shows One Percent of U.S. Behind Bars
According to a new report released yesterday by the Pew Center on the States’ Public Safety Performance Project, at the start of 2008, 2,319,258 adults were held in American prisons or jails, or one in every 99.1 men and women.
*****
Interestingly, the Pew study also noted that over the same 20-year period, inflation-adjusted general fund spending on corrections rose 127 percent while higher education expenditures rose just 21 percent.
The report points out the necessity of locking up violent and repeat offenders, but notes that prison growth and higher incarceration rates do not reflect a parallel increase in crime, or a corresponding surge in the nation’s population at large. Instead, more people are behind bars principally because of a wave of policy choices that are sending more lawbreakers to prison and, through popular “three-strikes” measures and other sentencing laws, imposing longer prison stays on inmates.
Politics plays a major role in drumming up support for harsher prison sentences. Candidates not wanting to be labeled "soft on crime" by opponents quickly get behind any bills for mandatory sentences, three-strikes laws, or other such elevated punishments. These policies, in concert with elevated health care cost for inmates, have driven up incarceration costs to the point where they compose larger and larger pieces of state budgets each year.

America for Sale
While reading the universal concern about the mortgage crisis and the credit crunch, I began to dig below the headline stories, and two things soon occurred to me. First, foreign investors such as Russia, China, and Saudi Arabia are buying a high percentage of our debts; second, a country that sells its assets to foreign nations and companies in order to remain economically afloat is a country that is in deep economic trouble. The selling off of our debts to foreign organizations, if it continues to escalate at current rates, bodes more ominous for our economic future as a nation than does the current mortgage crisis taken by itself.
If by a "Liberal" they mean someone who looks ahead and not behind, someone who welcomes new ideas without rigid reactions, someone who cares about the welfare of the people — their health, their housing, their schools, their jobs, their civil rights, and their civil liberties — someone who believes we can break through the stalemate and suspicions that grip us in our policies abroad, if that is what they mean by a "Liberal," then I'm proud to say I'm a "Liberal." Holy cow. Is anyone else amazed about this?
Eight hours after Hillary Clinton ran the "3 AM" ad against Obama in Texas, the Obama people ran a rebuttal ad.
What amazes me is this: the Obama rebuttal was clearly not just something they already had in the can. It duplicates much of the Hillary ad shot-for-shot. Which means that the Obama team conceived it, scripted it, got script approval, assembled it (I'm sure they used some stock footage), shot any additional scenes that they needed, and got it on the air...all within eight hours.
They did it so fast that it got into the same news cycle. In fact, the story became about the Obama rebuttal more than the Clinton original!
Unless they have a mole within the Hillary camp, who smuggled them a copy of the Clinton ad much earlier, creating and airing an effective rebuttal that quickly is an absolutely astonishing feat. Who the hell are these guys? Where have they been until now?
"Hillary’s Judgment – from the Perspective of a New Yorker"
September 11, 2001 was the most heartbreaking day for America, and New York in particular, in recent history. It was the day when America was so viciously attacked by terrorists. New Yorkers cried at the sight of those airplanes used as weapons to destroy the World Trade Twin Towers. Thousands of Americans (and some foreigners) perished that tragic day. As a New Yorker, I can never forget the pain, anguish and helplessness that I felt that day. Senator Hillary Clinton was there and witnessed it first hand physically and emotionally. She experienced the heartbreaking sorrow and devastation felt by New Yorkers. Senator Clinton was there to offer support and comfort.
The following year, the senate received reports that weapons of mass destruction were in Iraq. The proposal was to go after these weapons which could be used to attack the US or any place in the world. With 9/11 still fresh in her heart, Senator Clinton’s instinct was to vote to protect and defend New York, the US, and the world from another vicious terrorist attack. I salute Senator Clinton’s courage to vote as she did. HER PRIORITY WAS TO KEEP US SAFE AND SECURE. As a New Yorker, I support her judgment wholeheartedly. Her vote meant that she deeply and sincerely cared for New York and our country. I totally understand her sound judgment.
Unfortunately, President Bush had some hidden agenda. And we all know what happened after that. As a result, we are still in this war where thousands of American lives have been lost. The high costs of war have also sent our economy into a downward spiral.
In retrospect, it is easy to say now that the vote was wrong as there were no weapons found in Iraq. But we didn’t know that then. What if there were and we didn’t do anything? Should we have just sat and waited for the next attack? As a New Yorker, Senator Clinton could not and would not take that risk. She could not bear to witness another 9/11. As a fellow New Yorker, I salute her judgment. I admire her courage for her JUDGMENT to KEEP us SAFE and SECURE. And for me, that was the correct judgment.
If we elect Senator Clinton our next president, I have no doubt in my mind, heart and soul that she will make the correct judgments to move our country out of this mess and move us forward in the right direction.

Fed’s collateral book mostly in loans
By Krishna Guha in Washington

More than half the collateral backing cash advances made by the Federal Reserve to banks operating in the US is in the form of loans rather than securities, the New York Fed has told the Financial Times.
This is the first time the Fed has offered any insight into its collateral portfolio, and the news is likely to diminish market concerns about the nature of the assets backing the Fed loans.
Many analysts speculated that banks could be parking with the Fed only complex housing-related securities that cannot be refinanced elsewhere.
However, the Federal Reserve Bank of New York told the FT that since the credit crisis began, banks had continued to provide a wide variety of assets as collateral – including Treasuries, other government and agency-backed securities, as well as private-label mortgage-backed securities.
****
I like that: "this is the first time the Fed has offered any insight into its collateral portfolio". The Fed is part of the government, but is a private corporation, so no taxpayer has not even the right of oversight of their own monies?
And now they open up to prevent imaginations from going wilder? Really nice.

Yep, that was pretty cool :)
GE Money to move its HQ to London
By Francesco Guerrera in New York
Published: February 8 2008 02:00 | Last updated: February 8 2008 02:00
General Electric is moving the headquarters of its core consumer finance division from Connecticut to London in move that symbolises a shift in the US conglomerate's centre of gravity.
The decision by one of the largest and oldest US companies to relocate GE Money, a business with $25bn of revenues a year, to London underlines the increasing global nature of GE. It is also a boost for London, which has been challenging New York's supremacy as a global financial centre.
"It is emblematic of the globalisation of our business," a senior GE official said yesterday. GE Money's origins date back to the Great Depression of the 1930s when it provided credit for cash-strapped Americans to buy GE's appliances. With $200bn of assets, it is the world's largest provider of private label credit cards.
After the relocation of GE Money, two of GE's six divisions, accounting for about a quarter of the conglomerate's annual sales, will have headquarters in the UK.
*******
And this is nice in itself. GE moving some operations out of the country, just like Haliburton. They take the money and run to avoid the war debt implosion of the US economy. Sweet freedom of money and wealth, while workers and regular people get enslaved by debt and geography.
I will say this: I've never heard of ANY campaign, Republican or Democrat, that has pulled off a feat like that before. Can you imagine if Kerry had done something like that in response to the Swift Boat ads?
Oddly enough, this stunning display has surprised me more than any other event of this campaign. And it actually gives me hope. If the Democratic nominee has a team like that to draw on, John McCain doesn't have a prayer.
If Hillary gets the nomination (which seems unlikely, but possible) she should do everything in her power to get Obama's media team onto her campaign.
I saw Hillary Clinton and Wes Clark in Waco, Texas today. SHE and Wes were magnificant, inspiring. I had a great time and I also got her autograph on my book"Living History".

Yes, it's beyond frustrating. And it sickens me that my company actually profits because of the logistics aspect.

Good for you, I'm glad you had a good time :)
Even though we support different candidates, I think it's important to keep in mind the big picture.. which is taking back the White House in November.
Democrats '08
Yamaka - I did know much of that. I don't have a problem with muslims or jews or christains or Budists or agnostics or anyone. There is no pre-requisite to being an American or being a good person.
I too am of mixed decent and it is a journey of struggle when you're are forming a self identity, especially if you are mixed when no one else around you is. Inter-racial marraige was still illegal in a lot of states when Barack was born.
I have not read the book, "Audacity of Hope" but I take it that you haven't either so I would like to see those statements, if they exist, in context. There are many people who feel disinfranchised when they are young. Imagine, no one in your known family looks like you You may feel that something is missing. Is it fair for us to judge someone else's growth as a person? Should we cast stones at honesty?
As far as changing his name, why would he? Why wouldn't he proud of his heritage even is his father was an ass that left him? You know, my last name is a sephardic jewish name, yet I am Catholic. Should I change my name?
I guess I just don't see what you are getting at with all of this. If you don't like Muslims then you just don't like Muslims. There is nothing I can do about that, but you shouldn't try to drag others down a narrow path.
there is a beautiful snow falling outside. it's so quite you can hear it as it reaches the ground. be well my friends, the real work starts after the primaries are over and then when we take the white house we will have to cajole and drive whichever is president to build a sane world for future generations.
let go of the guilt gig. cause as you know:
thomas sowell...hahahahahahaahahahahahahahahahahahahah...another fucking pinhead....
Yamaka, I saw those quotes on several web-sites. I don't have his books, but I imagine that it is coming from the red side of things. They are biting at the bit, ready to turn loose on either of our candidates.
A quick trip to the library or a book store will clear up the questions. If I get a chance, I'll see if I can find out.
Thank you Gregg, I needed that reminder. I hope that we'll all be able to meet up at Joe's come November.
damn i have been able to avoid this shit for a few weeks but the heartland institute is just too over the top...here is their schtick...it is the same old story...them that's got, got...them that don't---tough shit...
"Heartland's mission is to discover, develop, and promote free-market solutions to social and economic problems. Such solutions include parental choice in education, choice and personal responsibility in health care, market-based approaches to environmental protection, privatization of public services, and deregulation in areas where property rights and markets do a better job than government bureaucracies."
parental choice in education=destroy the public school system...dumb down the public so it will have even less control over it's own destiny..
choice and pesonal responsibility in health care=if you can pay you can play, if not take that tumor home with you and die quietly, we are practicing our putt shots.
market based approaches to environmental=means destroy the planet for short term profits for the rich...
privatization of public services=bye, bye roads, bye, bye social security...
deregulation in areas where property rights and markets=rip off public trusts and give the spoils to our corporate friends who will give us fat jobs when we get thrown out of office...
screw the heartland institute though i may go to the conference in the city and give the attendees the bronx cheer as the wander about times square taking wooden nickels and trying to line up sleeve jobs in the men's rooms.....hahahaahahaha.....heartland institute indeedy do...
Ok, here's the exercise for the Dali Lama neuron function:
Sports are huge and apparently not boring in the USA. How does the average American see the Olympic teams and individuals from China as competitors for the US athletes? As proxy competition for the two countries' economies and militaries? How do Americans see themselves in comparison with the competitor country China?
Then flip that, and imagine how the average Chinese citizen sees its own country and how they perceive Americans and the USA in Olympic competition.
Your thoughts on this subjective competition exercise, if you please.
Then, is the US susceptible to the distraction of defending its national pride this summer to the loss of interest and momentum going into the critically important fall elections? Anything bright and shiny to keep the minds of Americans off the bloody messes of occupations that are tanking.
The economy bankrupted by war profligacy needs to be kept front and center right up to November. Don't let the MSM take it away where they will, keep at them, congress and progressives.
well drub has discovered the truth about me, not only am i french but i come from the city of remulak...ahh the humanity!
Hello, all,
I don't have long to stay on the blog tonight. Things to do; sleep to catch. But in the course of my duly appointed rounds tonight, I chanced upon a display in a public forum. The display contained a flag and it also contained the words of the Pledge of Allegiance. I read the words we all know so well:
"I pledge allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America, and to the Republic for which it stands, one Nation, under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.",
In that moment of reflection, I was struck by the irony of two things. First, the Republican party has been spreading slanderous lies claiming Obama refuses to recite the pledge. And second, many in that same party support the display of the confederate flag. The very flag that symbolizes the the group which attempted to split this great nation in two. The result of which was a war that brought the death of over 600,000 Americans.
This country is off course. We need a change in direction. We must rid ourselves of this new and vile class of politicians that have taken over the Republican party.
hey tom i need some sleep and wanted to say it is good to see you.
the imploding economy that has resulted from years of unprovoked war in iraq, ayn randian regulation of the loan industry and absolutely zero federal government support of figuring out a way to reduce dependency on the oil cartels will be a real millstone around pelican candidate necks in november.
we need to beat them so bad their momma's won't recognize them....nite now.
Barack’s name is probably more AMERICAN and patriotic than John Sidney McCain III
Barack and Hussein are Semitic words. Americans have been named with Semitic names since the founding of the republic. Fourteen of our 43 presidents have had Semitic names (see below). And American English contains many Arabic-derived words that we use every day and without which we would be much impoverished. America is a world civilization with a world heritage, something Cunningham will never understand.
Barack is a Semitic word meaning "to bless" as a verb or "blessing" as a noun. In its Hebrew form, barak, it is found all through the Bible. It first occurs in Genesis 1:22 -- "And God blessed (ḇāreḵə) them, saying, Be fruitful, and multiply, and fill the waters in the seas, and let fowl multiply in the earth."
Now let us take the name "Hussein." It is from the Semitic word hasan, meaning "good" or "handsome." Husayn is the diminutive, affectionate form.
Barack Obama's middle name is in honor of his grandfather, Hussein, a secular resident of Nairobi, Kenya. Americans may think of Saddam Hussein when they hear the name, but that is like thinking of Stalin when you hear the name Joseph. There have been lots of Husseins in history, from the grandson of the prophet Mohammed, a hero who touched the historian Gibbon, to King Hussein of Jordan, one of America's most steadfast allies in the 20th century. The author of the beloved American novel "The Kite Runner" is Khaled Hosseini.
Many U.S. presidents had Semitic names ...
http://www.salon.com/opinion/feature/2008/02/28/hussein/
Mmmm let’s see does McCain’s name have any history of redeeming value?
I couldn’t find any John Sidney McCain III
He just got hand me downs 3 times
Maybe John Sissy McCain kinda sounds like Sidney or Cindy?
It is worth pointing out that John McCain's adopted daughter, Bridget, is originally from Bangladesh. Since Hussein is a very common name in Bangladesh, it is entirely possible that her birth father or grandfather was named Hussein. McCain certainly has Muslim relatives via adoption in his family. If Muslim relatives are a disqualification from high office in the United States, then McCain himself is in trouble. In fact, since Bridget is upset that George W. Bush doesn't like her "because she is black," and used her to stop the McCain campaign in South Carolina in 2000, you understand why McCain would be especially sensitive to race baiting of Cunningham's sort. The question is how vigorously he will combat it; he hasn't been above Muslim taunting in the campaign so far. (And the McCains really should let Bridget know that she is Asian, not "black." The poor girl; Bush and Rove have done a number on her, and Cindy's confusion can't help.)
http://www.dadmag.com/archive/060400jmccain.php
Hard to find a picture with McCain and his daughter Meghan McCain
http://bigheaddc.com/2007/10/31/cindy-mccain-bush-spread-rumors-that-john-fathered-black-child-out-of-wedlock/
So, anyway, Obama's first two names mean "blessing, the good." If we are lucky enough to get him for president, we can only hope that his names are prophetic for us.
oh now chicago shows up...dang....hey chicago remember how sally has been making fun of senator johnson from south dakota who had the stroke? sally has been calling him a retard and going on about how the good pilgrims of south dakota won't reelect him....looks like sally might have to eat some more shit pie on another of it's absurd predictions:

Johnson Up Huge In SD
Republicans looking for a few wins in Senate races around the country could be disappointed this year, as a new poll shows one of their potential pick-up opportunities could be dramatically out of reach. While Louisiana Senator Mary Landrieu remains a top target, South Dakota's Tim Johnson is farther from vulnerable, especially given that Republicans have yet to even recruit their top target.
The poll, conducted by the Feldman Group for the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee, surveyed 500 likely voters between 2/25-27 for a margin of error of +/- 4.4%. Johnson and former Lieutenant Governor Steve Kirby were surveyed.
General Election Matchup
Johnson 70
Kirby 19
Despite spending most of last year recuperating from a life-threatening brain clot in late 2006, Johnson gets high marks on favorability and job performance. 79% of state voters say they view him favorably, while 72% say Johnson is doing an excellent or good job as a Senator.
Republicans have yet to actually seal the deal with Kirby, though Democrats are having fun with the fact that so many other potential candidates passed on a race against Johnson before the GOP found him. Republicans, though, say a website the DSCC has set up -- 10thChoice.com -- shows Johnson still has reason to worry. Still, with a 51-point lead, Johnson should be resting easily today.
....getting the magic sixty in the senate will be a stretch but the dems having 55 seats not counting the two independents that caucus with them should be no problem...sununu is going down, domenici's seat will go dem, warner's seat will go dem....and so on...
dat's it folks. things just keep getting better for the pelicans...hahahahahaha...not!
Yamaka - I don't think that Barack is hiding behind secrecy & shame. There is no problem with his name. What he objects to is people using it as a scare tactic and that is exactly what it is being used as. "Oh noes ... a terrorist in the White House ... Al Qaeda in the White House." I've read the responses to his name. So let's not act like that isn't the point of this issue.
Also, church is the most segregated part of America. It always has been. Black churches do try to help black neighborhoods. Jewish Synagogues often support Israeli and Jewish interests. Latino churches work in latino neighborhoods and want to see "La Raza" do better.
When Rev. Ted Haggard fell from grace with his "gay sex & meth" scandal did that sully every congregant and every other officer in the church just by association? Did the church disband?
I know that you can say that he fell from grace. I will tell you this who ever the Rev you are talking about is - he isn't going to fall from grace. I would say the majority of black churches probably have the same mission statements - help the black community. That does not mean that other races are not welcome. It means that communities devastated by crack, killings and prison are trying to help out where it is needed.
That being said, I believe this is a watershed moment for America, especially black America. They can shake off the self imposed shackles and stop being black Americans and just be Americans.
Yamaka, you have a cause ... you want to make sure Barack is not elected, but you are going about it all the wrong way. It turns people off when you start talking about Muslim fathers, middle name shame and all the other crap you've been posting. It doesn't endear anyone. If someone does like what you are saying, then you are preaching to the choir.
The Terrorists Still at Ground Zero, 7 World Trade Center, Lower Manhattan
By ALEXANDER COCKBURN
Terrorism flourishes brazenly at Ground Zero, in the new 7 World Trade Center building. Here can be found a secretive entity of fabulous wealth and power. Kingdom and corporations alike tremble at its shadow and make haste to pay it tribute. I refer to Moodys Investor Services, wholly owned subsidiary of Moody's Corporation, which reported $2 billion in revenues in 2006.
******
Steven Hess, Moody's top analyst for the US economy spelled it out even more explicitly to the London Financial Times: "If no policy changes are made, in 10 years from now we would have to look very seriously at whether the US is still a triple-A creditThe US rating is the anchor of the world's financial system. If you have a downgrade, you have a problem."
US interrogators torture men in secret prisons seeking to catch those members of Al Quaeda still at large, starting with Osama bin Laden and Aiman al-Zwahiri. Yet here's Moody's man calmly threatening to destroy the US government's credit ranking unless it follows his agenda, and he strolls around Lower Manhattan unmolested, even if his threats could add up to the financial equvalent of a thermonuclear device planted under the Statue of Liberty.

Gregg,
Good to see ya'.
Yeah, I always get a kick out of sally's predictions. I don't know which is funnier, his lame predictions or how he tries to forget them after he has made them and they turn out to be WRONG.
Good night all,
And pray for this country; that we shall not have to suffer through 4 more years of a republican in the oval office.

If they say it often enough--------
It WASN'T THE PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE!!!!11111
It was the NATIONAL ANTHEM
PERFECTLY ACCEPTABLE (I DO) STAND AT ATTENTION WITH RESPECT LOOKING AT THE FLAG IF THERE IS ONE.
DURING THE NATIONAL ANTHEM AND PUT HAND ON HEART DURING PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE.
PETER, I just went to a Hillary Campaign event in Waco, Texas, the people who were sitting right beside me were recording her speech. When everyone was chanting Hillary, they chanted Obama, when Hillary was speaking they sat there and called her a liar. THese people will stop at nothing to malign the Clinton campaign. If we all don't get to the polls, we will have this kind of government! The DNC and Howard Dean is allowing this kind of politics!!

Highserenity,
Good to see you.
They have been spreading lies about Obama and the national anthem, the Pledge, and his swearing in. All these LIES have been debunked. But, as you indicate, if they lie often enough and loud enough, they will get some of the fools to believe them. Just look at the trolls on this blog. Some of them still think there were WMD's in Iraq...
Now I am really off to sleep.

This happened tonight?
Posted by connfloyd on March 1, 2008 at 01:24 AM
---------------
It is like taking you way to long to do a google search on the rally in Waco
I can fill in the details for you if you like
Racism and Sexism in the party
Yeah, I saw an AP story debunking all of these rumors about Obama, which I guess where in some email. They kept referring to the false rumors on CNN but never got into them. I had no idea what they were talking about. I even wrote them an email asking them how they could refer continuously to such things without addressing them.
I think they must be freaked out to address it, which is strange because the AP did.
But YEAH, it is funny that Clinton people dig-up the photo, put a caption on it like 'would Hillary be able to get away with this?' Then they hangout and ask about it, 'so what is wrong with this?' Over and over again, trying to suggest that Obama is hiding his past in some nefarious way.
I also heard that Clinton's people were behind the racist emails, but I don't know if that is true. But what is true is that they sure like to talk about it, lean in and ask, 'What is the problem with having the name Hussein in our current hysteria with everyone who possibly could be muslim?' It is like people beating-up those Indian Sikhs after 9-11, who are not in fact muslims.
Honestly, I have a 'black' friend who who actually voted for W once, and called himself a Republican because of this behavior. (He is back now, before Obama was a contender). He explained the defection by saying some like, 'I like it when racists are actually out of the closet.' What he said was better, I can't remember exactly.
I heard this from Bill Clinton, and in offhand comments from other people along the way. I would not vote for a candidate just because they were this or that, or not this.
But everyday when I hear people talking about Senator Clinton all I hear is how much they love their mother or sister, or wife. I didn't read that book she wrote about the sex scandal, that is what it is about isn't it? But man, that must have been some book to create such militancy. I hope to god it isn't racism.
I personally don't know why Senator Clinton would be the best women, or the torch barrier if it is purely historical. You really can't see how she polarizes not only this party, but more importantly the republicans. I mean, Rush Limbaugh encouraged Republicans to vote for her today in Ohio and Texas to rally their party. And another host of a different show, encouraged republicans to vote against her because he can't live in a world where she is president. You really think if she gets into office that she is going to accomplish anything useful? Were you even around for the 1990s? The Clintons are their Bushs.
With all that is happening in the world, we can not afford to play these games, really. Global warming? How about unstable weather, like freak tornados and hurricanes. I saw on a Christian network that these are obviously caused by end of days and is part of our punishment for our immoralities. Dude, maybe they are right, but even Noah built an Ark, why not pay attention if god is trying to tell us something. Like maybe, I gave you all this oil, and instead of using it to feed the world, you bought a bigger SUV? I think I'd be pissed to if I were god.
I don't want to go on with this negative chastising anymore, but I am glad that who I happen to support and the people who support Obama aren't playing these weird power games with sex and race. Seriously, it is exactly the wrong way to defeat the Republicans, or get anything productive done once someone is elected.
Beyond the end not justifying the means, it both turns people off from politics, and has nothing to do with solutions, at all. It is a power game, when it should be about empowerment, for ALL people.
I think you Clinton supporter have watched too much Fox news, for too long. And now, like the guests on their shows, you can given into to letting them set the tone and direct of the conversation. All that you are doing is reacting, instead of envisioning something more innovative, and doing it. You are being defined, instead of defining. Cynicism is the last refuge of the broken among us. I think it is time we do something different, possibly? nite.
Don't you mean college educated? LOL
You really must be bored to be trolling on the DNC board late on a friday, man I thought I was a loser for logging on so late. But to be hear trying to convince people who read books that one year is a long time. . . I'm sleeping, anyway, nite.
You should be talking about something useful, like defict spending and WMDs, or surfing for naked ladies, or similar masbatory acts.
. . .
Yeah, I'm sorry. I actually felt a bit guilty about that and had to pop back. I'm trying to pick out a movie . . .
The college educated/reading thing was totally lame to say.
'masbatory' spelled that way, means that sun spots may not save us . . .
If you don't believe in global warming, which I too hope is somehow a mistake, think of it all this way:
There was this Reagan presidential commercial in the 1980's which showed a bear in the woods. The voice-over stated something like, "Some say there is a bear in the woods. Others don't see it and say it isn't there." Then it shows a hunter with a gun, "Wouldn't it be better to be prepared, if it was there, just in case?"
That was the cold war, of course. But beyond being prepared or combating mankind being wiped out, our oil reserves are running out, this is a fact. The Republicans themselves are giving presentations on this in Congress right now. As they run out, we need power for other sources, and if we wait we'll have to wage more wars for the last bits of it, and fight to defend our own. Beyond creating a ton of jobs, it makes sense that we, for that reason alone, be prepared and be innovative and show the rest of the world what America can do when we put our brilliant minds to a task, even if climate change is that bear in the woods.
Really, there are a ton of scenarios suggested on discovery that could change the climate and wipe us out. Being able to produce our own power through a verity of means would be useful.
On a side note, I remember watching a show on there on how New Orleans was going to inevitably flood. I even told someone, man, I'd like to go to Marte Gras before the city is wiped out. I didn't go.
Let's hope it isn't that super volcano in Yellowstone.
I wonder if we could cool that down by running pipes through the crater and generating geothermal power in the process. Maybe that wouldn't work, but this is what Americans do, think of cool things and then do them. This endless arguing about, what, 5-10 issues we disagree on, is totally pointless.
nite, off to picking out a movie. coffee at night is a bad idea.
How can a Democratic Administration put more energy in the war against terrorism than a Republican Administration?
By our Democratic Candidates getting tougher with International Diplomacy and launching a war against the very governmental politics on violence in the Middle East, not just using possible military options as Republican Candidates still vow to use in Iraq. Where a Republican Administration is not using three party meetings between American government officials, oil executives and Middle Eastern officials to discuss important war against terrorism issues where the issue then appears to take second priority.
Both Senator Clinton and Senator Obama have introduced well-needed different ideas on Diplomacy with their Campaigns. Where Senator Clinton says she will not meet with the leaders of rogue nations at a drop of a hat, where the U.S. President could be used for anti-American propaganda, Senator Obama says it is important to meet with our enemies.
Personally, I partly agree with both the leading Democratic Candidates. I think, like Senator Obama, that it is important for post-9/11 American officials to meet with leaders in the Middle East at this time. I also think, like Senator Clinton, that meeting with some leaders of rogue nations elsewhere in the world is not worth our time unless their willing to discuss reputable issues important to the United States and their own country’s people.
I would like to see Senator Obama who attempts to take on ‘alleged’ accusations against Hillary Clinton’s style of politics to take on the do-but-don’t-but-do agree with Martyrdom Islamic politics of Middle Eastern politicians. Right in front of the international media’s cameras. Would not you?
On the other hand, I also agree that Hillary Clinton rejecting certain dictators in front of the international community is the right thing to do because it also encourages the international community to put pressure on dictators to change.
Got a great picture today! I went to the Hillary Clinton campaign rally in Waco today and managed to get a shot of Hillary and Wes Clark side by side. I thought they looked so good together that they would be a good team for the White House. President-elect Hillary Clinton and Vice-President-Wes Clark. Good combo!!
Better combo. Chick-Filet sandwich and waffle fries.
It has a better shot at the White House too.
With new reports of all the in- fighting at the Clinton campaign, the best service they could do now for Senator Clinton is to come up with a graceful exit stratagey. They should do SOMETHING to earn all the money they have been paid. Unless they want to be remembered as the team that had the highest pizza bill in campaign history.
Last, you candidate will never win, because you have maligned ever democrat you will need for the general election. Try winning the general election with just the A.A. vote. Your an idiot!

I hate to tell you this, Connfloyd, but your ranting posts are not helping your cause. When I read your posts, (And I have read many of them), I get a mental image of a woman, wild eyed and foaming at the mouth.
I know that you love Hillary and I do not fault you for that, but the kind of divisiveness you post here is what will kill her in the general election if she were to get the nomination.
The DNC and Howard Dean is allowing this kind of politics!!

SHAME ON YOU! Howie & the DNC.
hahahaha
So, it was HD & the DNC standing next to you?
I'm suprised you didn't you slap them around and set them straight. By golly, that will teach them!
Reads like you haven't been to many pre-primary rallies. Believe me, they get better.
And BTW, did you contact the Texas State Elections division about those pollworkers who were peeling off stickers of others voter registrations?
good morning. nice new coat of snow here in the hudson valley.
good morning, {{{johnboy}}}
Vote by mail is hot and heavy here in OH. Looks like I might be in for a 36 hour election day. ;)
It will take a while for those paper ballots to be processed and counted after the polls close, (voters are given the opportunity to vote with paper if they don't want to use the touchscreens, what with the EVEREST report coming out and all) so if it's close, you all can hang on for one hellova ride!
good morning fellow Democrats. What did I miss yesterday about Hillary wanting to sue in Texas if the delegates don't go her way? I heard something about it briefly but that was it. IF this is true it shows how desperate she is getting, and it is time for her to start thinking about her legacy and step aside.
Fresh snow here too. It's supposed to warm up into the high 40's over the next two days, so it won't last long.
March...in like a lion, out like a lamb.
Let's look at that last, short, little post of yours.
Last, you candidate will never win, because you have maligned ever democrat you will need for the general election. Try winning the general election with just the A.A. vote. Your an idiot!
Posted by connfloyd on March 1, 2008 at 06:32 AM
First sentence "you candidate" should be " your candidate",...last sentence, "your an idiot"
should be "you're an idiot"
If you want credibility, you should at least use good English...Now, let's take the "you're an idiot" and explore that. A mentor taught me a long time ago to respect my enemies. When you call someone an idiot for expressing his point of view, you do not diminish him, you diminish yourself. I have this fault, so my telling you this is not a case of "the kettle calling the pot black" I recognize my own failing in this area. I think you do not.
As far as Obama losing the general election, he won't. If nominated, Obama will beat McCain by at least 10% of the vote. You badly underestimate the mood of the electorate. It is true that there are a lot of Republicans and Independents crossing over and voting for Obama in the open primaries, but what you fail to recognize is that a large number of these same people are going to cross over and vote for him in the general election.
Obama does not have the nomination sewed up by a long shot. A lot can still happen, but if you want to really help Hillary, you need to become more temperate in your remarks.
Posted by goodfoe on March 1, 2008 at 07:06 AM
Johnboy, just about everything this person posts is lifted from somewhere else on the internets. Crazy rants from cyber space against Obama supporters, that's all it is.
I hope Dawn didn't get too cozy with him/her.
And for all those people obsessed with Sen. Obama's name.
I was named for the President's Widow. So, therefore, I'm just like Jacqueline Kennedy! She was not only young and attractive, but intelligent and cultivated, and possessed an innate sense of style and elegance. Though she was sometimes criticized for her aloofness, expensive tastes, and European ways, the American public quickly took to her, and made her its idol.
From this time on, you must act and treat me as such. hahaha

I read that somewhere else on the internet,....seems they are thinking about suing to get the caucus votes not counted and there by get the awarding of caucus delegates blocked. The urban areas which favor Obama have more delegates.
Mama San is on my case about going to breakfast and grocery shopping now. It's tough being me! Ha Ha, just kidding. Chat with you good folks later. ...Onward and upward through the fog we go!!...

McCain Faces Fire Over Minister's Views
Presumptive GOP Nominee Faces Questions Over Rev. John Hagee's Provocative Preachings
Feb. 29, 2008
(CBS) Today, it was Republican frontrunner John McCain's turn to answer mounting questions about one of his supporters, Rev. John Hagee, a San Antonio pastor with a worldwide broadcast ministry, reports CBS News senior political correspondent Jeff Greenfield.
Hagee has offered some highly provocative views on a variety of subjects.
For instance, he linked Hurricane Katrina to the gay rights movement: " … All of the city was punished because of the sin that happened there in that city."
He has also denounced the Roman Catholic Church as "the great whore of Babylon" and "a cult." He blames it for the Holocaust and predicts its imminent demise.
"This is the apostate church," Hagee said. " … this false religious system is going to be totally devoured by the anti-Christ."
In a statement, Catholics United said: "We hope Senator McCain will take the principled position of publicly and unequivocally distancing himself from Pastor Hagee's anti-Catholic comments."
And Bill Donahue of the Catholic League offered a tougher view: "I do want a clear-cut statement from McCain saying that he knows Catholics have been offended, when this man hagee calls my religon the great whore and a false cult system."
Today, Sen. McCain offered carefully measured words: "I don't have to agree with everyone who endorses my candidacy," he said. "They are supporting my candidacy. I am not endorsing some of their positions."
The question is whether Pastor Hagee's view on the Catholic Church constitutes "a position" or a view that the presumptive Republican nominee has to address head on.
This dust-up may also make it a lot tougher for Republicans to criticize Barack Obama for some of his more controversial supporters.
