Kicking Ass: The Democratic Party's Blog

Angry John McCain

Posted by Michael Link on March 7, 2008 at 04:15 PM

His famous temper was on display, as he lashed out at a NY Times reporter asking him a basic question that wasn't even very tough. My favorite part of the exchange, via Crooks and Liars (who also has the entire video):

Reporter: Can you describe the conversation?

McCain: No, of course not. I don’t describe private conversations.

Reporter: Okay. Can I ask you –

McCain: Why should I? Then there’s no such thing as a private conversation. Is there (inaudible) if you have a private conversation with someone, and then they come and tell you. I don’t know that that’s a private conversation. I think that’s a public conversation.

Reporter. Okay. Can I ask you about your (pause) Why you’re so angry?

McCain: Pardon me?

Reporter: Nevermind, nevermind.

So why should HE be allowed to have a private conversation? He doesn't support OUR rights to provacy, so screw him. Besides, if he doesn't tell us what was said, we might not be able to stop the terriers!

Fellow Democrats:

Before we can talk about John McCain, we need to settle on who our nominee will be. I have a few thought's about Hillary Clinton's recent "ringing phone ad."

The Clintons are not the only ones who can come up with unfair attack advertisements. They could also be vulnerable to the same types of attack advertisements they've used recently.

For example, one can imagine the following ad:

This imaginary unfair attack ad begins with dramatic and ominous music similar to Hillary Clinton's "ringing phone" ad. The voice over is also similar to the Clinton ad. After a few notes of ominous music, the narrator speaks as follows:

"The year was 1998. A phone was ringing in the White House. On the other end of the phone was an intelligence agent with information about a little known terrorist group, Al Qaeda. The information related to a plot to bomb an American War Ship and a budding plan to bomb New York City. Unfortunately, the phone went unanswered because Bill Clinton was too busy managing his relationship with Monica Lewinsky and the Monica Lewinsky scandal to care about America's future. At the same time, his real vice president, Hillary Clinton, also didn't pick-up the phone because she was too busy planning her own political future. Within a couple of years, the U.S.S. Cole was bombed and the World Trade Center was destroyed. Thousands of Americans were killed as a result of the Clintons' dropping the ball. Roughly 5 years later, the phone was ringing again, only this time it was ringing in Hillary Clinton's U.S. Senate office. The call was related to an intelligence report that would have cast doubt on the Bush Administration's planned invasion of Iraq. The call occurred before Hillary Clinton cast her vote in favor of going to war with Iraq. That phone call also went unanswered because Hillary Clinton was too busy plotting her next career move as a politician. America, we cannot afford another Clinton in the White House. We will not be safe. Too many ringing phones will go unanswered."

THIS AD DOES NOT EXIST. But one could imagine such a ridiculous and unfair advertisement being used. It's very similar to Hillary Clinton's ad that was ACTUALLY used against a FELLOW DEMOCRAT! It plays on voters' fears and encourages people to abandon reason in favor of their fears.

I think we can all envision such an advertisement being used against the Clintons. We all know such an ad would be incredibly unfair. Thankfully no such ad exists at this time. Such an ad would exploit the population's view of the Clintons as people who will do anything to get what they want and such an ad would also play on voters' fears.

Although this IMAGINARY ad is a little more extreme than Hillary Clinton's ACTUAL ad, it's no less unfair than her advertisement. When are we going to learn as Democrats that these types of ads should not be rewarded? When are we going to punish Democratic candidates that engage in these types of attacks on fellow Democrats?

Fellow Democrats, please don't vote for Hillary Clinton. Please don't support these tactics. If she wins the nomination, please vote for John McCain.
