hello people!
how's it going out there?
I'm feeling optimistic today because I know that Obama is going to get the nomination!!! I just don't think the Democratic party is going to let the clintons beg borrow or steal their way back to the white house. it should be the will of the people that decides who the nominee will be. I think if hillary thinks she is going to drag this out until the convention, Gore, Carter and others will come out and put a stop to her madness. I don't feel that dragging it out is making the party stronger. we need to wrap it up. going all the way to the convention would be a nightmare. it would be ridiculous. Obama is right to focus on McCain. we can win with Obama! listen to me! and I don't even call myself a Democrat anymore but I am excited and hopeful!!

Repost, for anyone that missed it:

Ok, so I always see these clips of McCain, talking about how he's proud to be a Republican in the tradition of Lincoln, Roosevelt and Reagan. Well, the problem is, he's not in their tradition (Reagan, yes, but Lincoln and Roosevelt, no). But, just to make sure, I had to do a little research on my own. And, what I found wasn't surprising. The Republican party of Lincoln has since done a complete 180 to become what it is today. McCain would have to run as a Democrat if he wanted to promote Lincoln's ideas (apparently the idea of evolution and adaption over time is lost on McCain).

McCain the next 'Honest Abe?' Highly Doubtful...

War profiteering, drug smuggling, arms dealing, assassination attempts, slave-trafficking run deep in both the Bush and Pierce family. It's little wonder the chimp turned out to be a demon; those genes are generations-deep rotten. After all, Shrub is the only convicted felon ever to achieve the Oval; his complete lack of morals or empathy came from somewhere.

Ah, but he was a great guy to have a beer with, right? I understand we're now considering choosing our leader by their bowling score.

It amazes me that most Americans get their only information from the morning chat shows or the factless evening talking heads. The MSM is playing them and they're going right along.

Then I have people like my stepmum who supports Hillary but will vote for McCain if she loses. She believes that minorities always surround themselves with those like them (as if us whities don't). She doesn't bother checking to see whether Barack has done this in the past or learn that Mr. Obama is half-white and raised by whites.

The clincher: she's Chinese. arrrrgh.

I do feel bad for Chelsea Clinton. I know she loves both of her parents but I don't think she has to answer questions about Monica. she should just gracefully decline. if only her father had the sense to say "I'm not going to discuss it" way back then instead of lying maybe she wouldn't be in this position. now he is furious because Bill Richardson has made the right choice for the American people. remember when hillary first announced that she was going to run? and everyone was saying you were either "with her or against her"? she was serious. well, I've never been with her. not since she blindly voted for the war. that was the end of it for me. remember that smug look at the convention in 2004 when Howard Dean took the stage? see people like me remember these little things. and people need to get off Howard Dean's back about Florida and Michigan. they knew what the rules were. they should have just changed the dates of their primaries. it seems very simple to me. but it seemed pretty simple to me that there was no reason to go to war in Iraq too. does anyone even talk about Iraq anymore? that is and always will be the #1 issue for me.

In Obama's defense, he is left handed and it's nearly impossible to find a left handed bowling ball at an alley. (The holes are drilled differently.) Had he found one he quite possibly could have bowled a 32.

9
Doo-Bee-Doo-Bee-Doo on April 3, 2008 at 03:35 PM

Just for you Sadie!

Obama has demonstrated the ability to bring millions of new voters into the Democratic ranks. This fact will not be lost on the super delegates. Obama has demonstrated the ability to raise millions of dollars, over and over again, from over a million small contributers. This ability to raise money to defeat McCain will not be lost on the super delegates. Obama has run a magnificently well organized campaign, a fact that indicates how he will reorganize and run our government. This fact will not be lost on the super delegates. As time marches on, you will see more and more super delegates moving to endorse Obama. This is already starting to happen. Soon it will be a flood of endorsements. Then, it will be time to focus on McCain, which we will do. "Bomb, bomb, bomb Iran" is finished, he just does not know it yet, but he soon will!

I'm ok with everyone getting to vote but there comes a point when hillary is going to have to hang it up. she never thought she wouldn't get the nomination. she thought it would be a wrap and that has been part of her problem- the blatant arrogance. the sense of entitlement.

All alley balls are generic and drilled for either hand. This is because the weight of the ball is positioned in the center of the ball. This makes it harder to control and hook the ball.
Professional balls are drilled specifically for left or right handed people, for the size and shape of their hand, and the wieght of the ball is off center, giving you more control and the ability to hook.

He should have used bumbers.

Well, I believe that one can pray for their enemies, but I don't believe that Christianity is the only religion. The people who support this do not recognize Islam and believe that Jesus is the only savior. It has nothing to do with respecting your enemy or their religion.

poor Obama.
I guess because he can't bowl, people don't think he is white enough. and if he gets out and plays basketball, they will think he is too black. I'm white and I can't bowl OR play basket ball. I wonder what would happen in chess? if he's good, would middle class people think he's too smart? would that make him appeal to educated rich white people? no matter what UNFORTUNATELY it always comes back to race. he hasn't made race the big issue but other people always do. I also know older relatives who have trouble voting for a black man. a dear Aunt recently said that she thinks he will choose a black man to be Vice. bless her heart. she's just 82 years old. she's from a different era. but she is a good Democrat and she will get out and vote for him when the time comes. it's time for change. sure it's risky to have a black man as the nominee. but I'd much prefer a smart, sensible black man who was against the war than an arrogant horrible woman with more baggage than LAX. hillary clinton cannot win. people who have a problem with his skin will still vote for him over McCain. but people like me will NEVER vote for her. I will not compromise my principles like she has. I'm not going to do it. Obama handles himself with dignity and he never looses his cool. he has a natural sense of calm about him. he will need it on 4-27 when hillary gets one more chance to get in his face. he will be feeling the hot angry breath of a desperate woman on his face one more time. the angry glare will be blinding. let's hope that's the last debate.

Robert Lopez served 8 years in our military, fighting in Iraq and Afghanistan as a tank commander. He was told he'd get his whole education bill paid for when he got out of the service. Mr. Lopez has fought and sacrificed for our country but like so many others, Mr. Lopez has faced the bleak reality of a government that has turned its back on its veterans.

That is why Senators Jim Webb and Chuck Hagel proposed the new GI Bill, which would bring back WWII-style standards of providing vets with full tuition, room and board. And that is why 51 senators have signed on, including 9 Republicans like John Warner, giving this GI Bill tremendous bi-partisan support.

But it isn't enough. Faced with unprecedented filibusters, the only way to ensure Senate passage of the GI Bill is to get 60 co-sponsors. So far, John McCain has refused. The same McCain who insists he supports our troops. The same McCain who is voting lockstep with the Bush administration (who have also resisted this bill). We need to get John McCain to do the right thing -- to sign now and signal to other Republican leaders that we should be strongly behind our vets.

Sign the petition to John McCain!

I wish I could find it in my heart to pray for bush. I just pray that justice will be served to him and cheney for this senseless war. I don't believe that God likes to send people to hell but if anyone deserves to burn, it's those two.

btw, I wouldn't vote for McCain either. I don't see that much difference between him and hillary. I know it infuriates some people here when I say that but it's my opinion and I'm entitled to it.... but I wouldn't vote for him. I would stay home for once or vote for an Independent. if we continue to vote for the lesser of the 2 evils things will never change. we deserve better in this country.

Carter hints at support for Obama

WASHINGTON - Former President Carter wouldn't quite say it, but he left little doubt this week about who he'd like to see in the White House next year.

Speaking to local reporters Wednesday on a trip to Nigeria, the former Democratic president noted that Barack Obama had won his home state of Georgia and his hometown of Plains.

"My children and their spouses are pro-Obama. My grandchildren are also pro-Obama," he said at a news conference, according to the Nigerian newspaper This Day. "As a superdelegate, I would not disclose who I am rooting for, but I leave you to make that guess."

Carter's spokeswoman confirmed the remarks.

I had some errands to run at lunch so I amused myself along the way by counting yard signs. The Obama signs outnumbered Hillary signs by 2:1. Interestingly enough, there were NO McCain signs anywhere. Not even stickers on cars. The few Romney stickers I saw a few months back have since vanished. Obama stickers are outpacing Hillary stickers at about 4:1.

Very informal, very unscientific, but an interesting turnup here in purple-land that was very red in 2004, less so in 2006 and looks to be turning toward blue. I'm spinning my prayer-wheel for full-on cerulean!

Worse, John Edwards beat him at 1-on-1 hoops.

That's quite alright. I want a POTUS with a brain; I couldn't give a continental damn about his sports ability. My mum has been an Obama fan since he announced. I was an Edwards fan until he suspended; I joined mum in the Obama camp that very day. (She won't let me forget she was right all along; but that's what moms do...)

Obama has impressed me as a thoughtful, intelligent, articulate human being -- the total opposite of the babbling monkey inhabiting the Oval now, who's probably shitting on the priceless carpets along with Barney. Or blaming it on Barney; the chimp never takes responsibility for anything.

Senator Obama may not be perfect, but I feel he perfectly fits what our country desperately needs.

Bob,

I represent that remark :)

I'll be 51 in a few months, but I was raised by grandfolks who were in their early 20's when the Great Depression hit and my parents were born early enough to remember it, but too young to participate in WW2. That's where I get my thrifty "use it up, wear it out, make it do" mentality. (The uncharitable say I'm cheap; hardly! I lean toward responsible fiscal conservatism.)

All my folks, being true Appalachians were deep and loyal Democrats, even to this day. They gave me a deep, deep love for the land, for all my roots, what it meant to be who-all I am and where I came from and a respect for the Constitution. Military service was expected; not because we approved of war (none of my folks ever did), but it was something we owed our country to do in thanks for the freedoms we enjoy. Even community service was highly regarded.

It's too bad our Republic counterparts don't understand that patriotism isn't a magnet on an SUV and a mouthful of slogans. It's what you do in thanks and in defense of your liberties that defines patriotism vs rooting for more war that someone else's kids get to go fight.

Ah, well. My idealism gets ahead of me and it's time to go home.

Nytol!

Really? He lost to Edwards? I saw video of Obama shooting hoops with the Soldiers in Iraq or Afghanistan a few years ago and it looked like he knew what he was doing. He plays B-Ball almost every morning for exercise. His brother-in-law is the head hoops coach at Brown. (I know, it's Brown.)

Never the less, the White House has a 2 lane bowling alley which I'm sure he will ignore and his kids will love if he makes it all the way.

Oh, and as for gyros. My friend and his wife taught at a Reservation school for several years when they graduated from College and regardless of the feeling of good they experienced the ONE thing they missed was a good Gyro. He was talking to a constructing worker who was working on an addition to the school and found out that the ONLY place to get one was over 60 miles away.

So, it became a monthly weekend camping trip to the Gyro place and then tenting it at the nearby State Park. (What people will do to feed an urge.)

NEW YORK – A newly disclosed secret memo authored by the Department of Justice's Office of Legal Counsel (OLC) in March 2003 that asserts President Bush has unlimited power to order brutal interrogations of detainees also reveals a radical interpretation of the Constitution's Fourth Amendment protection from unreasonable search and seizure. The memo, declassified yesterday as the result of an American Civil Liberties Union lawsuit, cites a still-secret DOJ memo from 2001 that found that the "Fourth Amendment had no application to domestic military operations."

Blue Democrat, for starters, I suggest you and other Hilllary supporters read post #34 at this link:
http://forums.therandirhodesshow.com/index...20&start=20

The problem is that, increasingly, the Clintons are showing their alignment with the Bush Crime Family and the warmongering, coporate controlled, Neocons and right-wing extremists. Yes, it did appear that there was a right-wing conspiracy against them at one time. However, it now appears that was merely a cover story to gain Democratic support for a Republican Lite administration which gave us welfare reform, loosening the governmental oversight of the banking system and media deregulation, among other programs, which have HARMED WE THE PEOPLE., If indeed we are now seeing their true colors, it is a rude awakening for us all. You know the drill----good cop/bad cop---and it seems the Bushes and Clintons have played it very well. Otherwise, how do you explain what the Clintons actually do versus what they say they will do? They talk like Democrats but they rule like Republicans.

As a former, avid Clinton supporter, I have come to this realization slowly, with great bitterness, as people do when they believe in someone and realize they have been duped. I was in denial about the true character of the Clintons for a long time, but as time went on, my rational mind took contol over my emotions and I was forced to see what they really are. Sadly many on this board have endured the same painful experience, and while I do not presume to speak for Randi, I believe she has suffered the same epiphany. But once you see the truth, in good conscience, you cannot go back to your former illusions. Randi has seen the light and has spoken out against what she sees as serious character flaws in the Clintons, flaws that translate into a betrayal of public trust.

The link I furnished above is only the tip of the iceberg. But it is a starting point for your consideration. Also, bear in mind, Hillary's increasing fondness for Rupert Murdoch and Fox News, as well as her recent affiliation with Richard Mellon Schiafe, who formerly she felt was the devil incarnate. Once one lies down with bad actors repeatedly, one can reasonably be assumed to hold the same bad intentions as they do. Check out Hillary's Bush-friendly voting record. Does it measure up to her progressive rhetoric, or like Bill, does she make too many overtures, deals and compromises with the right wing, to ever be trusted to represent the interests of the American people?

The attacks on Randi are very UNAMERICAN. She is standing up for what she believes in and she cannot be bought or bullied into submission. If Hillary really wants Randi's support, she should approach her honestly and in person on the issues. But all this sniping by surrogates will not deter Randi from speaking her mind. If you are a Randi listener, you should know that by now. It is Randi's courage and insight which make her so valuable to this debate and trying to silence her voice will not change the truth of her statements. In fact, I believe your real objection is to the message, not to the messenger.

51
GOTV on April 3, 2008 at 05:30 PM

Does Randi's contract restrict her free speech rights, as guaranteed by the U.S. Constitution?

As a liberal, I, and presumably Randi, take a dim view of censorship. If censorship is permitted, it must be permitted only in the most obvious exceptional cases, such as when it threatens public harm.

But political debate is the most sacred form of free speech cherished by patriotic Americans. Offending those who cannot face the truth, or object to the sting of the truth, or simply hold contrary views as to what the truth is, does not justify censorship of political speech. The Founding Fathers offended many with their fiery rhetoric, as free thinkers often do.

Let Randi be Randi.

Being offended is not dangerous to your liberty, but censoring free speech which offends you is.

Let's also remember that it was Bill Clinton who quashed all the ongoing investigations into Reagan and Bush-era wrongdoing like Iran/Contra in the 90's making it possible for slugs like Death-Squad Negroponte, Elliot Abrams, Total Information Awareness Poindexter and the rest of their ilk to be given high positions in this Bush admin. Something I think Obama should point out on the campaign trail to the Hillary Clinton campaign.

The whore doth protest too much, methinks.~Double, double, toil and trouble, Fire burn and whore bubble.~ The devil can cite Scripture for his whore.~ Look like the innocent flower, but be the whore under't.~For God's sake, let us sit upon the ground, And tell sad stories of the whore of kings.~The play's the thing, Wherein we'll catch the whore of the king.

Well, Obama's Church has started receiving phone and e-mail threats. Heck of a job, FAX SPEWS.

The National HQ of the United Church of Christ is calling for a National day of healing sometime in May, which may be too late.

The press is forbidden from entering the building or setting foot on the property because "some news outlets" (ahem) were harassing churchgoers on their way in and out, and one outfit even barged into a Parishoner's hospital room to confront a member.

Now the cops have to waste resources to protect the building from arsonists.

Really "Christian" of these assholes, isn't it?

Could it be that if hillary got the nomination and won the election she would then block all iquiries into the chimp crime family and his administration or pardon them like ford did for nixon!

Just a thought!!!

Wow, I must be a dinosaur, or something, then because I carry a pen, a small highlighter, and a mechanical pencil in my shirt pocket every day.

Does Randi's contract restrict her free speech rights, as guaranteed by the U.S. Constitution?

Posted by GOTV on April 3, 2008 at 05:35 PM

Now wouldn't it be silly for a talk radio personality to sign a contract that doesn't allow her to talk about the things that her show is about? I'm pretty sure Randi Rhodes has no problem spewing her bile.

Good afternoon, everyone.

Have you heard the latest? Now Rove is telling the MSM that Obama is an elitist.

Are we talking about the same man that the GOP was accusing of belonging to the Black Panther party along with his radical racist ex-minister?

Even more ridiculous is hearing rich GOP cats like Joe Scarborough, Pat Buchanan, and Chris Matthews discussing how Rove is so right on.

Bill,

There is something reassuring about Obama allowing himself to be seen as a klutz. He almost looks too athletic.

I've bowled 37 games and I've bowled 288 games. It’s a fun game because you have no control over the conditions, your team mates, or how much you’ve had to drink.

Life is like a bowling score. Sometimes you're on a roll and sometimes you're in the gutter?

Gee, does that sound stupid or what? It sounds like something that Spunky or maybe McCain would say?

Yes, my friends, I used to be called McNasty on the lanes. And I’m still bowling them over in the Senate when I get angry with my back alley language.

I guess they can't say "Uppity" any more.

Don't forget, although he goes to a Christian Church he's still a "MOOSLUMM" according to Big Yellow Bigot and connie. AND FOX.

Yeah, Rover. The guy who was the FIRST MINORITY EDITOR of "The Harvard Law Review" decided to eschew Wall Street and become a Community activist and voter registration coordinator in order to help BILL Clinton get elected.

All for the whopping sum of 12 to 15 THOUSAND DOLLARS A YEAR!!!

How DARE he?

When I was a kid, my dad showed me something about using a slide rule, but when I got into high school, I was so fed up with school, I didn't take the course.
I found a book at a used book store, a little while ago, and decided to learn to use at least some of the scales just for grins and giggles. My granddaughter started asking questions, and I started explaining some of the basic stuff to her. She thinks it's totally cool!
There is hope for this younger generation.;-D

Evening all good Dems,

I still have my old slide rule from 1955. It cost $20 and was made of bamboo with a plastic overlay.

I used to carry in a case on my belt like a nerd.

I also had a pocket protector in which I carried my engineering scale, a pencil and a pen.

They can't stand the TRUTH, John Boy. They can't stand FACTS about this illegal occupation, the economy, McCain. They get angry if we don't keep it hidden how many of our troops get killed because of a lie!

so that is why they do not like me. Ask me if I give a Rat's ass! NAHHHHHHHHHH! :)

Logging out for the evening, fine Dems! Keep the light lit! The Democrats are coming to Town!

I'll bet your slide rule says "Frederick Post Co." and "Sun Hemmi Japan" on it. The Japanese preferred to use bamboo for slide rules because it is more stable than most types of wood. They are decent slide rules. I have a couple of them. I have some slide rules that I rescued from people who didn't want them, and were going to toss them.

My brother who SILL uses one (just to show his kids that he's smarter than a pocket calculator) had a "Circular" Slide Rule.

I gave up and stopped with the linear one. Once the test was over I never had to use one again and I still haven't missed it.

For the Kids who grew up with Texas Instruments calculators and Casio watches...

You are correct. It does say Frederick Post. We were thrilled when HP brought out their first calculator in the 1970's.

The first non-HP was in 1972 I believe. It was about eight inches long, five inches wide and about one inch thick. It cost a fortune.

California didn't allow calculators at the 1972 PE exam. My slide rule really got a workout.

A lot of people are coming forward with first hand knowledge of mclame's vile temper. It comes to full bloom quite often. He strikes me as being worse than cheney even going so far as telling people to go f**k themselves from the podium.

We do not need a hothead in the White House with the "nukular" button close at hand. I gather that a lot of his anger issues come from his treatment by the North Vietnamese. They have a name for that.
