Iraq Spending "Poorly Tracked"

Posted by Michael Link on May 23, 2008 at 10:30 AM

Via the Washington Post:

The inspector general for the Defense Department said yesterday that the Pentagon cannot account for almost $15 billion worth of goods and services ranging from trucks, bottled water and mattresses to rocket-propelled grenades and machine guns that were bought from contractors in the Iraq reconstruction effort.

The Pentagon did not have the proper documentation, including receipts, vouchers, signatures, invoices or other paperwork, for $7.8 billion that American and Iraqi contractors were paid for phones, folders, paint, blankets, Nissan trucks, laundry services and other items, according to a 69-page audit released to the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform.
[...]
Waxman said the poorly documented expenditures of seized Iraqi assets included a $320 million cash payment for employing 1,000 people that was handed over to the Iraqi Finance Ministry with "little more than a signature in exchange.

Speaking as someone who has done some budgeting, and purchasing for the military, if my spending had been as "poorly tracked" as that I'd be spending my retirement in the female section of the US Disciplinary Barracks at Ft.
Leavenworth instead of beautiful uptown Butte.
BTW, I hope they are reserving rooms for Republican politicians at the civilian facility just outside of Ft. Leavenworth. Bush and Cheney can share the presidential suite with a big bad biker named Bubba. ;-D. Investigate, Indict, Imprison! Bush's third term!

Here's a link to the longer article which adds some more interesting facts that we all should be concerned about, like the mystery of where all the money disappeared to? As we struggle to feed the family and fill the gas tank, can we say IRATE??? But then, anyone with brains must have known as this thing dragged on there would be consequences and losses. Foxes in the chicken coop, wolf in the door, friendly fire and with friends like this who the hell needs enemies??? How long will this go on? Who knows, seems to go on and on as the buck gets passed and pocketed. Oh well, and it's a deep one too...let's put a stop to this by making sure we vote in DEMS to congress, to state and local, to Presidential, to everything from now on for The People not The Pirates!!!

Here's the article from AFP via Yahoo:

It didn't take me long to understand that Bush and Chaney had this planned all along. Steal the people blind and the people will still love us.

I hope we aren't disappointed in giving O'Bama all the breaks and making insulting remarks about Hillary? She can stand up to MCCain when the swiftboaters start to roll. I am not sure O'Bama can? I hope you don't secretivly regret pushing him when it is Hillary that is the star!

And what is congress going to do about it. Start a federal investigation immediately by an independant auditor. Just bush trying to stop it will help us get elected in the fall. This is the kind of gift that rove would be all over if the shoe were on the other foot.
